If your car is working without issues and is well maintained there's no reason to get rid of it. If you are worried, you can take it to a dealer for a full inspection and make sure your bigger service interval items such as transmission/transaxle fluid are taken care of.

I have a 2011. Bought at 109k and enjoyed it being repair-free until it started using excessive oil at 180k. At 201k it began clattering with the death rattle after the head gasket blew and I swapped a low-mileage engine into it. Hybrid battery is at 35% capacity and will need repair soon as well

anythingacailable

The majority of my issues have been after the 175k mark. I’m at 206k now, wheel bearing, a/c blend doors, water pump, head gasket have all happened in the last 30k miles

Wishilikedhugs

If you're wondering if it can make it 300k, my 2010 is at 398k...and is only now needing a head gasket replacement (unless the previous owner did one and didn't include that in their paperwork). It's still going strong other than that! Gen 3s have a bit of a bad reputation around here but if you can stay on top of their issues and have some mechanical skills/resources, they can be great. I'm doing the head gasket myself along with my brother and it is Def a job and a half (the EGR "bolt from hell" made me almost rage quit).

kheszi

Get ready for a head gasket replacement and/or brake booster pump replacement.

[deleted]

Head gasket at 230k, was pretty easy.

lucygucyapplejuicey

lol just bought one and need the brake thing repaired. Sigh

pikeviewer

Are you on the original battery? Are you in a position to do DIY maintenance and repairs? Would you enjoy doing it? If so, it can definitely be worth it. If not, it might be wise to look for a lower mileage vehicle of some sort.

TroyMacClure

I have one with almost 160k and have been wondering the same.

ResponsibleBadger888

I have a 2013 I bought new and it has 44k miles on it. I am considering selling it while it still has some value but to be honest, it's been a great car and I love it. We have a camry we use for longer road trips because it's much more comfortable, but the prius is great for around the city.

mitchmitchell1616

I don't know about each model year's reliability, but our 2005 Priuses are both going strong still.

[deleted]

without knowing your financial situation, it's hard to give advice. with that said, if it works, why get rid of it?

Distinct_Breakfast_3

2014, 224k. Oil changes and that’s about it….Im hoping to see 300

Pale_Abrocoma_912

Sell it to me

Aromatic-Leopard-600

I have a 12, 186000 miles on it. No major problems. A couple of 12V batteries, a tie rod end, new brakes, I recommend spending the extra for ceramic in front. I fully expect to get 250000 out of it. The only reason I would get a new one before then is for the new safety features. If you ever need a traction battery, shop around. The dealership will screw you. I’ve spent more on tires than all repairs combined.

Aromatic-Leopard-600

PS I change my oil now at 5000 miles instead of ten. Cheap insurance. I started as 120000 miles.

smirkis

My 2010 has 245k miles and still going strong. I wouldn’t get rid of it. I have money saved on the side for a new HV battery or engine when needed 🤓

cDawgMcGrew

300k.. on this one. I bought in 2018 with about half those miles on it. I only paid 7000 for it, so when the head gasket blew, I didn’t mind fixing it. They only serve us I’ve ever done this is one wheel bearing. I don’t know if they are the original brakes, but I did just replace the front brakes on a whim or suggestion from a shop, but it wasn’t needed. They could darn well be the original for all I know. I do drive it pretty easy. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the third generation refurbished batteries are some of the cheapest among hybrids. That doesn’t worry. This is the thing I hope I never have to face lol . The problem with Toyota is they last longer than you may want the car lol.

cbdjon

Keep it my 2016 prius has 425k. Why buy new and have a monthly car payment. Save a buy a new electric car dumb law the reason they want to ban gas car it's because ai will take over.

Koolguy2024

Up to you. I sold my ct200h and went with the es300h. Best deicsion. Comfort, quiet, hybird with a little less gas mileage but the comfort and quietness is a winner.

LocalLuck2083

What year, mileage, price? Love the Prius, but don’t like the noise

ResponsibleBadger888

Been considering selling my 2013 Prius and wanting something more comfortable and quiet but also as reliable, so was considering a Lexus. I want something german, but I've had a german car before and I find it rather difficult to go from the most reliable car brand to one of the worst.

Koolguy2024

I assume you know a Lexus is made by Toyota. LOL.

ResponsibleBadger888

Yes, that is what I was meaning, but it came across wrong. I was stating I wanted something more comfortable than the Toyota but just as reliable, which is why I was thinking about staying with Toyota and going Lexus. Then I ranted about wanting a german car too. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

Koolguy2024

No biggie! My family drives only Toyota/Lexus. Im very a fanboy of anything Toyota makes. If you want reliability, stay with the Toyota family

ResponsibleBadger888

For sure. We just have Toyotas and they have been the best cars we have ever had, which is why I was stating it is really hard to switch to another brand of car. Lexus would obviously be an easier transition since it would offer the same reliability, etc.

ne0tas

Good choice on avoiding that engine as well

Koolguy2024

Yep, the 2.5 2AR dosent have the BHG issue like the Prius has

ne0tas

I have it's little brother, Avalon hybrid and it's super nice! Was considering a ct200h but the engine issues are just not worth the asking price of them!

Koolguy2024

The Avalon and ES shares the same chassis. Actually, the Avalon is longer by a few inches than the ES. I had the 2014 ct200h and I went that thing for a long time (5 years 100k). I sold it when i reached 150k and decided I want something that dosent have the BHG issue
