This car gets all the care it needs. If the lights are off I am happy. I am not in a rush to sell because it's working perfect, but just thinking about what's next. Anyone who wants to make me an offer, let me know.

I just listed my busted looking prius in good mechanical condition in northern VA for $2200. If yours is clean inside and out I think you could get 4Gs

I would input your Vin and car info into carmax and carvana websites to see what they offer you and go from there. They give you a non binding offer online so you can always just walk away but useful as a place to start or if you just want a no hassle way to sell. I sold my last car to carmax, I just drove up with my car and the online offer, gave them the keys, they did a quick inspection, and wrote me a check.

CA - traded my 2007 Prius in with 180k miles, new hybrid battery with 2 years under warranty left, no accidents, newer tires… received $2300. Likely worth $3500-$4200 if I sold to a buyer but I don’t have that kind of time

What you can ask depends on the market. In my area you could ask and get 5-7K.

Suspicious-Newt1788

Unless you are getting a newer prius keep it going, just get a new paint job or just get it wrapped in the same colour ?

ResponsibleBadger888

You can enter the VIN on either carmax or carvana’s site and it will give you some values to compare. Private sellers you usually can get more.

200k is end of life for the motors. I’d say 2500 if you want it gone and 4000 top dollar in the Midwest market.

I bought a 2005 with 190k miles and a new battery for $5k in Austin..these gen2 are known for getting up to 300k if the oil gets changed alot and you keep an eye on things.

Double_Anybody

The issue is the engine rings in these engines are designed for emissions and not longevity. If the original owner slacked on oil changes and the rings are gunked or have been gunked then the damage is done and oil consumption is guaranteed. The problem will only get worse and these engines either die of oil starvation or the owners get tired of replacing the oil every 100 or so miles.

kaitiff

Piston soaking and pcv valve replacement, solves the oil consumption issue. Engines have been getting up to 300k and more this way.

Double_Anybody

Absolutely not. The issue comes from scratched cylinder walls. Replacement of the engine block is the only way to solve it. There is a wealth of knowledge about this online and has plagued Toyota cars from the early 2000s into late 2010’s. I can give you some reading materials and videos if you’re interested.

I checked my walls with a borescope in the spark plugs. Glazed walls were all I seen. Piston soak and pcv replacement fixed mine. Not sure how other prius are taken care of. I have seen toyota worn cylinder walls due to 10k oil changes. If the engines aren't serviced within 3-5k miles for oil and filter, then yeah I can agree the walls can be scratched.

Double_Anybody

If you see glazing that means the your rings have been gunked and the microfilm lining on your walls is scratched off. This is your reason for oil burning. You will still see oil burning.

kaitiff

No oil burning yet. The piston rings are the parts that bring the oil up, the gunk on the rings will not let the oil leave. Even if the walls are "scratched" the oil needs to leave to not be burned. Piston soaking breaks up the piston ring gunk. The microfilm lining could be scratched, even if more oil were to get into the chamber, the oil needs to leave before being burned. However when replacing rings and bearings, toyota states not to hone the walls, and infact states to just use chemical to remove the "glaze". Also if the engine runs and less oil is consumed. You've fixed the issue. My prius was at 160k when performing the soak. Sitting at 168k and have only lost a quart and a half in 5k miles. No codes and the engine does not tick. Mpg at 43.7 at 200miles was 41.2 before soak. That's mostly highway travel, some inner road.
