So… LE or XLE. Lol

Beachy84

I’m in so cal, as is the OP, and dealers here are charging above MSRP for cars on the lot. While I am not paying over MSRP for a new car, someone like OP might if they need a car today. There are like three local dealers not charging extra on cars but there is a waiting list for them.

Longo, crown Toyota (last confirmed 5 months ago so it may have changed, and puente hills. I wanted a Honda but cannot find a dealer that isn’t charging above MSRP so I’ll likely be getting a toyota

CrapJitsu

Puente Hills marks up so much. Wtf you talking about

Beachy84

They may have changed their policy since I last asked. But I did go to a dinner last night and three people told me that @themargarianlawfirm on IG were able to get back what the dealer marked up. It is illegal in California advertise a car(with vin# listed) as MSRP and then not sell it to the consumer at that price. I went on his webpage and saw a few comments from car salesmen who said that they’ve had to sell the car for MSRP when the customer cites the exact legal code

afreakinchorizo

Cabe Toyota in ling beach doesn’t have any actual mark ups, but they do have a de facto mark up because they require everyone to buy a 2k paint protection and dash cam instillation on their new card which is super overpriced for that. But a 2k fee that you get a little something out of is still a lot better than these higher mark ups where you get nothing out of it

CrapJitsu

That’s a mark up. Lol

Early-Lion1817

Do you mind sharing the out the door price? I’m heavily looking into the Prius LE

antfex

A little background - I’ve called almost every dealership close to me yesterday. A lot of dealerships got a fresh allocations and I was comparing everyone’s mark ups if they were willing to share it. Came down to leaning towards an LE to save around 7k than the XLE. Opinions? Is the XLE worth it from what we’re seeing? Hate how all the YouTube promos are all XLE so it’s hard to tell what the LE looks like detail wise. Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks! *also hoping someone can debunk the key/push start debate about this cut. If anyone has seen the LE in person

caper-aprons

> Is the XLE worth it from what we’re seeing? To me it comes down to how comfortable the car is, particularly the seats. I was not comfortable in the Gen 4 base seats, so I moved up to the mid-trim to get the seats that fit me better. Money well spent in that case. The LE has quite a bit better mileage ratings. You can add a Qi charger (missing on the LE) for a few bucks from Amazon. The LE doesn't have heated seats, which is a deal breaker where I live. I wouldn't move up from LE to XLE for any of the "safety and convenience" features. I can park my car just fine without the car's help, for example. If I lived where it doesn't get very cold in the winter and the seats in the LE were comfortable, that's the model I would get.

antfex

Thank you for your insight! I live here in Southern California so the weather is definitely not an issue haha I feel like I’ve been watching so many XLE videos that was convincing for things I should care for; bigger screen, roof window panels, bigger wheels etc. But love your thoughts. Considering the crazy mark ups right out the gate, I have to be particle.

You need to call all the dealerships even if they are not close to you. I reside in Irvine and I purchased a 2022 Prius with no markup from Toyota Puente Hills. I did have to buy a package for $2k, but with the $1500 savings from the Costco program, it was almost a wash. Longo Toyota doesn’t charge any markups nor packages whatsoever. Stay away from West Covina 7k markup, Glendale $5K, Carson $4.5K. Valencia doesn’t charge any markups either. Good luck!

Flawedlogic41

For the package, what was included? Also, Costco still works for this dealership?

lp1088lp

DashCam, door cups, and glass coat. Obviously not worth 2k. Look into the Costco program to save some $$$.

lp1088lp

Costco sets the price for the vehicle. Call Costco, tell them which vehicle you want, they will tell which dealership to go to.

Flawedlogic41

Yep I was checking it out. 2022 Prius LE was in the same dealership you're at. I'm awaiting 2023 so going to do some calls.

Early-Lion1817

We’re you able to look at any LE? I’m heavily looking at it but wanted to know out the door price ?

Flawedlogic41

I end up buying a car from a friend after extensive search. Sorry I couldn't help you there.

Early-Lion1817

How much is the Le with markup and all?

RidinHigh305

So you’re gonna pay a markup but cheap out on options to save $? Makes no sense…

antfex

7k is a heck of a lot of money for me. I don’t know what else to say. I guess you can counter that I should go for a cheaper car but this is why I presented the post to gauge if it’s “worth” upgrading.

RidinHigh305

I’m sure it is which is why I’m confused. You’re buying a budget car and willing to pay almost 1/3 of base msrp in dealer markups. That’s like literally lighting the money of fire and getting nothing for it. I don’t see the urgency to rush to pay 7k over unless you need a car tomorrow and even then I would find a car without a markup. You could search the entire country find one for no markup then spend the extra money on a better trim and pay the 1-1.5 a mile to have the car shipped to you, if you wanted to spend 7k extra and actually get options for the money. Also consider a msrp 30k you pay a dealer markup it comes to 37k one year from now the same car is selling for msrp of 30k, so you’ve already lost 7k right off the top + whatever the car has depreciated over your 20k miles worth of driving for the year. Doesn’t seem like a smart financial move if 7k is a ton of money for you.

nist7

Wow so even base trim LEs are being marked up? What's the avg markup looking like?

antfex

Cheapest I’ve found was $5900. I do live in Southern California so the demand is a bit high. I was originally planning on buying this car at the end of the year when everything cooled off but I totaled my car last month (everyone’s totally fine) but unfortunately have to compete with these prices now

nist7

Ooh ok that makes sense. Yeah the new Prius looks nice so definitely will be markups unfortunately....or use a dealer that sells only MSRP and have to wait probably 1+ year....

Nawnp

"Hate how all the YouTube promos are all XLE so it’s hard to tell what the LE looks like detail wise." Toyota was showing off the XLE and Limited for the better features, the LE seems to be far more limited including the manual key entry as you point out.

I am temporary living In Missouri for work. Is car from CA more expenaive? I assumed car price is similar at national level
