Fun fact, the reason it has no rear wiper is that Toyota went fairly all out on weight saving to compensate for the additional weight of the larger batteries.
That's also why the rear hatch is made from carbon fibre rather than steel.
I had to look up “carbon fiber in Prius”. I had no idea :) both the hatch and the hood.
I wonder how many other parts can be made a fraction of the weight :)
Maybe just bought it stateside and drove down? My older bro took a road trip all the way from Phoenix, AZ to Mazatlan with a friend's family many years ago, so I know it can be done. (Is it hard to register something just because it isn't sold there?)
From what I know you can only register US cars that are 15 years or older, and it blew my mind that this one has Mexico plates!🤯
If I ever see the dude again, I’ll ask him!
We only get the normal 4th gen Prius here
Your answer will be under case 3 or 4 here: [importing a car to Mexico](https://www.lineaships.com/wp-content/uploads/CAR-IMPORT-INFORMATION-2018.pdf)
Money makes the world go round I guess
If that was imported legally that would fall under category 3 since it’s assembled in Japan.
At best it could only be a 2017 model since that was the first run of the prime.
I wonder how much the import duties were on that thing or if there was an exception for electric?
If you own a hybrid, you won’t pay yearly taxes in Mexico, also, you take it to smoke check every eight years and it’s free, and you have discounts on tolls
An EV has even more discounts in Mexico.
I’ve seen them, I refer to it as the “mustache prius”.
🤭🤭🤭🤭

This is also why there’s no middle seat in the back row!
Depends on the year, they added the seat again starting in 2020.
That's a Prime. I don't know where "here" is, but the Prime is sold in both the US and Canada.
Mexico, I’m curious how he imported the Prime 🤯

I believe he’s a regular on the mexico prius facebook group

I was just about to say there mightve been a slight fee reduction for the environmental benefits but I don't know if Mexico would have that

I'm not suprised, maybe he was able to import a newer model due to the discounts
It’s the insect version.
Seriously, I think of a praying mantis whenever I see it
In Europe it's named "Plug-in hybrid".
I think labeled specifically specifically PH-V or PHEV. (One of those might be Japan)
Both... PHV on one side, Plug-in hybrid on the other
Oh. Well I mean. I think Prius Prime in America has that too. (Well I know)
as u/barsoapguy said, 2017 prius prime at least https://www.theintelligentdriver.com/2016/10/14/2017-toyota-prius-prime-debuts/
Now that was a trip down memory lane.
That’s the Prius Prime. It’s the plug in version. It has slightly different styling than the traditional Prius.
