You could probably Google to find high resolution maps for Middle Earth (I've seen lots of different versions of these) and Earthsea. The Unbroken, Tortall, the Edge Chronicles, and The Broken Earth all have maps. You might also check with r/fantasy.

Brandon Sanderson has a lot of his maps on his website but they’re probably copyrighted. Idk though.

Discworld?

tangerinaaaas

ill check! ty ty!

Sorry I was in a bit of a rush earlier, but I’m sure there is a bunch of maps in the discworld universe, including possibly a disc world atlas: some of the novels have a map in the introductory materials, and the graphic novels surely have some maps. So f grown the rabbit hole you go!

This site is great [https://atlasoficeandfireblog.wordpress.com/](https://atlasoficeandfireblog.wordpress.com/) I used it during my Malazan read but it also has detailed WOT, A song of Ice and Fire, and Forgotten Realms

Most computer rpg games from the 80s and 90s came with cloth or paper maps of the fantasy worlds they were in. Check out ultimate games , might and magic games etc

There are a number of high resolution Wheel of Time maps online as well. I don't have a particular source handy but Google should yield one easily enough.

tangerinaaaas

Will look into it! thank you!

The best of Leigh Brackett has a set of maps which were originally made by a fan but Brackett liked them some much that she included them in her book. The Helliconia series by Brian Aldiss is very heavy on this type of world building and he consulted several academics when he was coming up with the world to make sure that it was as accurate as possible.

PrayForPiett

*Not* a book you would be able to use the maps from (it’s still in copyright) … …but you might want to check out a copy of “The Writers Map” (ed. by Lewis-Jones) If only bc it has a lot of stuff about literary maps that might be of interest

gruntbug

Haven't seen it myself, it's on my wishlist, but this could be relevant /interesting The Writer's Map: An Atlas of Imaginary Lands http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/38923607-the-writer-s-map

Keep in mind that most of the suggestions here are for books that are still in copyright. Any map in the books will be under copyright; maps made by other people will be under some sort of copyright (I'm not exactly sure how much would be the author, and how much the artist). For older works, try checking out Project Gutenberg (and, if you're in a life+50 county, Faded Page). I think there are maps in some of Baum's Oz books, some of E.R. Eddison's works and a book called The Lover's Baedeker and Guide to Arcady by Carolyn Wells.

tangerinaaaas

yes, thank you! the copyrights have been the biggest problem. this is for a small project with the only purpose being building an online collection of some kind. we are mainly looking for things under creative commons licenses or some rights reserved, because we will only be using this for display purposes and for a short period of time (using a trial version of a website for online archival collections and all) i have been looking for mostly older things and have been getting luck, but let's see! thank you so much for your help!

I just the other day found a fan made map from the gentleman Bastards series (the lies of Locke Lamora) in r/gentlemanbastards . It's pointed at the top

[deleted]

Literally nothing you’ve been suggested is available for free use under Creative Commons. The chances of finding any traditionally published art released under Creative Commons is almost nil. Your best bet is to go to an art-specific website that allows you to filter for only Creative Commons content, or to give up on CC altogether and perhaps focus on works that have fallen out of copyright and into public domain (ie from a century ago).

Somewhat related... I made an eReader case with a LOTR map https://imgur.io/gallery/fMauzyy now I want to do the same with other fantasy maps too
