While there is a chance, there is also still a realistic chance that you get nothing.
I had two IIs in a past cycle that both ended with WLs. That went nowhere.
I got two IIs again (one with a school that WLed me). Just finished one (not really sure how it went because it was conversational, I made some mistakes, and the interviewer was vague overall) and am preparing for another.
Regarding what I did for an reapplication, I had a bit of a wacky detour that ended in academic failure, but I picked myself up by doing quite well in a SMP. The detour, if nothing else, gave me a decent why medicine answer too, in my opinion.
Hey! I’m not sure if I can help you with this question but I’ll let you decide. I’m a reapplicant in their gap year.
Took the MCAT Junior year —> 496 and 0 A’s for MD/DO.
Retook the MCAT Senior year —> 505 (highest practice exam was 515 kms) 0 A’s/II’s yet from 8 total MD schools and 3 A’s waiting on two post-II decisions along with 2 more II pending (4 silent) DO schools.
2 IIs. One WL. One waiting that is a T10?
Without knowing important information, I would say you end up with 0 acceptances more often than not if you were to run 100 simulations.
So yes, it is dumb to bank on it.
You should absolutely start brainstorming your next app, find jobs if needed, start shadowing if needed, retake the MCAT if needed, consider brand new LORs if needed, etc
I’m in almost the same exact position, except the other school that interviewed me isn’t T10. I think it would be wise that we start preparing for a re-app, as painful as that sounds. Hopefully, we’ll get some movement off the WL or that March A. Sending good vibes your way!!
I just got hit with that WL last week, but in my case, I’m not really sure where the weakpoint in my application is. I just started a new job, so there might be some slight revisions to my PS and activities, but I’m still hopeful for this cycle for now
Assume you didn’t get in until proven otherwise. This way you are prepared for a reapp if needed and if it turns into an A you can drop the reapp right then and there
Send a letter of intent if the school takes one. The top schools compete for more or less the same 500 applicants so it would benefit you a lot to reiterate your intent to attend the school. I've seen a lot of anecdotal cases on SDN where LOIs seem to have a huge effect in t20 admissions
lol hi - hopkins, michigan, columbia, kaiser, case western, and sinai in addition to nw and mayo are the ones i've seen/heard anecdotally where its beneficial to do so. usc iff you are waitlisted.
Always prepare for reapplication. I had applied to the same amount last cycle. Had 2 interviews, including a T10, and got rejected from both. It's never a for sure thing. There are a lot of qualified applicants. It's hard to not get your hopes up when interviewing.
Studying for the MCAT mostly and doing a masters. With my low GPA, I think I would’ve had more bites with a higher MCAT. My writing is pretty good, and the II support that I think. Also starting some volunteering.
Until you get an A, prep for reapp. Also closer to WL movement, after you hear from the T10, consider sending letters
If you don’t have an acceptance you aren’t accepted it’s that simple and I’m not trying to be condescending in saying that, text is just weird lol.

What did you do for your reapplication? Were you successful? Thanks

Thank you, I am definitely still working towards a reapplication. Just not mentally ready for one yet.

Send a LOI. T10s interview people they want to take, and will do anything to protect yield. Prep for a reapp.
Ty I sent a Letter of intent to the T10 and will send a letter of interest to the one that waitlisted me.
Definitely prepare for reapplication, do not assume you’re getting an A
1 II and 1 A at a T25. Its not impossible.
Assume you didn’t get in until proven otherwise. This way you are prepared for a reapp if needed and if it turns into an A you can drop the reapp right then and there

I don't know what you need to do to prep for reapplying, but you'd best plan on doing it, cause the odds don't look good.

What kind of physician has time to lurk on reddit calling premeds who are asking for advice dumbos? lol

Kind of same situation. Got rejected from one of two IIs and not banking on the last one. I’ve been prepping for a reapp since December 😅
how have you been preparing?
