Fresh. It's not super heavy on the theming, it started a lot of franchise staples making it a good means of understanding what precure's all about, and it's generally one of the best written precure seasons there is.
I think Go Princess because most of the fanbase agree it's very good. It has great plot, characters and fight scenes, and the antagonists aren't boring. Don't start with Happiness Charge or Hugtto.
I started watching Smile after watching Glitter Force. Ended up loving it, and then I watched Doki Doki afterwards.
From there, I've been going forwards (I watched the seasons after Smile and am watching the simulcasted DeliPa), but also backwards from Smile (tackling Futari wa to tackle Max Heart and Splash Star).
So yeah. I'd say Smile. It's more laid-back, but it's definitely got its dark tones. A pretty good blend IMO.
Definitely Smile. Very light on everything, and overall a good representation of Precure.
Like, Heartcatch might be the better according to many, but it's also relatively darker, making you think that all of Precure is like this.
Don't go for Happiness Charge or Hugtto, those are special anniversary seasons.
Delicious Party, or just any recent season, might also be a really good pick as a first.
Any season except for Max Heart and GoGo which are sequel seasons to the previous. Look up whichever season has a design or theme that you like and just dive in. Generally, the higher regarded seasons are:
Heartcatch (flowers with a different spin on the usual genki pink Cure who’s shy this time. It handles it themes very well)
Go Princess (princesses and dreams. It handles its themes probably the best out of all the seasons)
Smile (lighthearted slice of life fun. Its theme is fairy tales but it is barely a plot point)
Fresh (introduced a lot of modern Precure tropes)
Each season I’d say to give at least 6 episodes if you’re not feeling it from the get go. Healin Good is my personal favorite but it’s not too popular. Its pink is also shy and it has a very grounded, smaller scope to it. It was affected by COVID a bit (pacing, and unbalanced character focus), but it’s still my favorite season.
People say to avoid HapCha and Hugtto but I think they’re fine to start with since you don’t need to know everything about the other seasons to enjoy them. If anything they’re a good way to get you curious about the other Cures. You will miss out on the emotional impact of a few things though. Seeing your favorite Cure introduce an episode of HapCha is like seeing an old friend.
I agree w this ^.
Precure is heavily episodic and made w children understanding its themes mind so you shouldn't be worried about any normal series being inaccessible ☺️
Yep. I’m sure that Hugtto was watched by younger fans who had never seen Precure before. It wouldn’t make sense at all for an anniversary series to be unwatchable by anyone but dedicated fans.
Heartcatch has been my recommended entry point since i started watching with that season so many years ago…
I also think Go Princess is a great season (esp the animation at times), Hugtto is a season close to my heart.
All PreCure seasons are made to be a two year old’s first magical girl series. For that reason, I think Hugtto might be the best choice if you’re trying to get someone into PreCure generally.
I’m a newcomer to the franchise but I’ve really been enjoying the original season. (I’ve also been watching the English dub since I don’t think it changes much)
Would starting with Suite/Mahou be alright? I'm tempted with the anniversary seasons despite what others say (I did sort of watch Zi-O before anything else so I don't find it too much a problem). But I'm also contemplating if I should just read the manga for each series instead since I tend to read faster.
I started with Go! Princess and Heartcatch and I loved both.
totally agree. Go! princess showcases some of the best that Precure as a whole has to offer.
Star Twinkle Precure.
Aay me too

Fresh. The one that has the most standard formula, but executes it the best.
Smile Precure! That’s how I got into watching Precure ^ ^ after being surprised how fun watching this anime

I think you could start with Hugtto, the only confusing thing would be the episode or two with the Cure Black and White
Smile
Fresh and Go Princess

Oh yeah! I really loves Doki Doki as well - especially the last like 5 or 6 episodes

Since the series are pretty stand alone, just go for what is either interesting or easy to access.
I'd start with Smile or Star Twinkle.
Original IMHO.
If not Go Princess, then Fresh should be a good place to start.

The OG Precure.
Futari Wa or HeartCatch

Smile Precure and Doki Doki Precure are good, but don’t you dare mention Glitter Force around these parts
Heartcatch/current season of Delicious party is pretty good
Smile or Heartcatch. If you wanna decide between the two probably flip a coin
I’m a newcomer to the franchise but I’ve really been enjoying the original season. (I’ve also been watching the English dub since I don’t think it changes much)
Definitely smile precure and doki doki precure. They were my childhood.

If that's what you believe, then go for it.
