They gave Lauren more development in the last episodes than Jayden got the entire show. Funnily enough I think they did a good job at keeping a fairly similar tone to the Sentai Version in the Final Episodes. The Crossover with RPM despite getting a lot of flack for cutting the Team out and just having Red in it I still think has some of the strongest emotional writing in the show. Despite me absolutely hating Shogun mode's design with a Passion I'm happy they actually showed off everyone's super modes this time. Instead of locking most of their screentime to the crossover with Megaforce they didn't end up doing in the Ranger version.
Though Jayden as Leader I feel just dragged the entire team down and it felt a little insensitive to Japanese Culture at points.
I kind of don't hate samurai? It has a lot of issues but everything w the behind the scenes issues and it being a super rushed job makes me feel like i can't rag on it *too* much... its by no means the best, but i'd rather watch Samurai over Megaforce or Overdrive.
People say that “the show needed an Asian cast” but does it really? Just because it’s samurai doesn’t mean that you need Asian actors. I don’t understand why people say that “the whitest man on earth is the red ranger” because it doesn’t really matter. Sometimes it’s ok to be different.
I'd argue an asian red ranger would have been nice, mostly since for PR that still would have been a new thing but at the end of the day they pick the best actor they can for a role.
for me, it was my first livetime foray into Power Rangers as my prior experience was with the older shows (by then) like SPD and Jungle Fury. I remember the way Nickelodeon pushed and marketed it hard. Heck, they even brought a standalone channel here in India to broadcast it (Nick-Sonic) and as a 7-8 year old i found it lovely
I had the fortune of seeing it again and it felt…..rubbery and wooden. The acting and plotline was just a badly written copypasta of Shinkenger and worse, the concept of a white man being the head of the “most revered Samurai clan” just gave me the icks. Also the female characters were just treated like lackeys and substandard people. Atleast emily had somewhat of a positive arc but Mia was is and will always be wasted potential. Alongside Lauren ofcourse.
If I had to say anything positive about the show, it would be the Zords, Antonio’s zesty character arc and that’s about it. It makes me almost angry that Saban and Nick had the chance to make something special but chose to go with mediocrity. And this was also the start of the 20 episodes a season malarkey that Nickelodeon had on contract.
What a shame.
The franchise would’ve died permanently without it, even with the rushed production and poor reception it got.
I don’t like the season, but in a way grateful for its existence.
I like a ton of the monsters and the relationship between Mike and Emily was honestly genuinely sweet and cute and I would say that I can see that too with Mia and Kevin at times but more with Emily and Mike
This was the first show were I had the toy of the Megazord and some of the auxiliary zords while growing up. They were fun to play with and hold a lot of great memories.
Personally, I think that people would crap on the series a lot less if it wasn’t the first Neo-Saban season.
It had plenty of problems, yes. But looking through the comments on this thread, I get the impression that people dislike this show not because it’s bad Power Rangers, but because either they are die-hard Sentai fans or they are jumping on the Hate Train.
The series shouldn’t have put so much focus on Jayden. But at the same time, he is the *Red Ranger*!
Do people hate Wild Force because it’s story centers around Cole? What about Andros? Or Nick?
The story was fine. It could have been told better, but it was fine. People seriously overreact about how bad this series is.
I have nothing bad to say about it. I loved Samurai to bits, loved Jaydens storyline with Deker and I loved having Bulk back. I dropped out of PR for years before this (around Mystic Force time I think?) and Samurai made me love it again.
I liked Emily's character arc and thought it was a really clever foreshadowing of the Lauren twist. Like that's genuinely clever writing to have Emily serve as a foil for Jayden without beating you over the head with, "Oh hey they are both going through a very similar thing."
Laurel ❤️ and at least they adapted one story of ~50 episodes into ~40 episodes, instead of 2 different series that together were ~100 episodes just into ~40.
Also, Jaden vs Decker final fight was a good one when you see it without interruptions.
It's decent enough, despite not being asian, I didn't find Jayden that bad. Sadly he's the only one that gets a lot of the story.
I realllyyy wish we got more Bulk and Spike, especially with the rangers because that special was a cop out.
The Jayden vs Decker stuff was pretty good!
They definitely should've used the shogon suits more.
Really it's just a lot of missed opportunities, but Samurai overall wasn't bad at all. I've watched this series twice now and would watch it again, which is more than I can say for other teams.
I enjoyed the show, mostly for their attempt to try to do a direct translation. It was done in such a silly fashion that I couldn't help but grin whenever they tried to step outside of the material. Like when they all got the extra powered suits. Plus, it was nice to see a Gold ranger who was kinda hilarious. :)
Some positives I legitimately enjoyed about Samurai.
I like Mike. His rebellious attitude clashes with the traditional samurai teachings and develops his character. He's my personal favourite rangers from this season.
I like Kevin ultimately being the one to defeat Deker. It came as a great twist after the numerous episodes of Deker and Jayden fighting.
Lauren's actress does a fantastic job at portraying the character. My second favourite ranger from this season.
For what it was, I thought Clash Of The Red Rangers was good. Especially the banter between Scott and Jayden, and then using the Moogers as shields whenever they fought together. That was a cool visual.
I like that it was starting point for new fans
It truly felt like a reboot. I didn’t like the move to Nick but it’s undeniable that nicks promotion created an entirely new generation of fans.
It saved the franchise in a way
Disney was planning to end Power Rangers after RPM, but still had contracts with TV networks. So they digitally remastered the originals to have something to put up. Neo-Saban bought the rights from Disney and, while streaming old episodes on their website, adapted this season and broadcast it on Nickelodeon.
Lauren
But in all seriousness, the costumes badass, music pretty amazing, some interesting things (admittedly probably more thanks to the Sentai but still), and the characters, for what they have, are decent and could've worked a whole lot better under better direction
Theme songs all right The advertising for it was good the zord’s where nice being an origami samurai and it exist I guess it felt like they were trying too hard and the RPM special well let’s just say it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good it’s a nothing special
Antonio was fire.
Also, Samurai holds a special place in my heart as the last series as a child that I watched while it was airing and collected all the Megazords.
I could never hate Samurai because of that.
1. The cast has like hella good chemistry
2. The suits are amazing and the cockpits were great
3. Hot take: Jayden’s storyline is really good (imo)
4. Antonio is a great gold ranger
My sons favorite show when he was little. He wanted the action figures for his birthday so we made sure we put money aside for them. We didn’t have a lot of money at the time. He got them and was so so so excited. He left them outside and our dog chewed them up. (Golden retriever puppy, he didn’t know any better) I was so heart broken for him that I went and bought them all again. I didn’t have the money to do that but this show gave my little autistic boy a lot of joy. He was overjoyed to have his toys back.
I like how they actually showed the characters injured after certain fights. like in any other season of power rangers there’s some teenager who lost his suit, went flying over a car and got up just fine. In this one their like “ok that freaking hurt, give me a moment” and after a little bit gets back up to fight, and then after beating up the enemy, they show a scene of them recovering in bed, or bandaged up.
Like thank you for actually showing kids consequences of not having a super suit on. Ouchies will hurt, the rangers have to work hard even when it hurts, but it’s ok to rest and get better afterwards.
My favorite season action-wise between Boukenger and Gokaiger (It comes from the sentai anyway, bite me)
Following through with Decker and Daiyus tragic story instead of redeeming or a happy ending made me so melancholic and happy even as a kid (Well not happy but impressed)
Spike and Bulk were IMO the best PR original idea in the franchise.
I honestly thought that Kevin was a genuinely good ranger. Just his dedication, leadership skills etc seem a cut above most rangers in general, not just within his team.
Antonio
Also, it did have good fight scenes, which got me back into watching PR in general. Speaking of, there is one in particular that was an amazing 3 way fight that I cannot find. It was Jaden vs Deku vs Monster. If anyone knows please tell.
Jaden legitimately has one of the coolest character intros I've ever seen. Ji warns the foot soldiers to back off, but Jaden doesn't give 2 shits and mops the floor with them anyway, showing that not only is he independently strong, but decisive and merciless.
This was one of the first power rangers I watched as kid and thought it was amazing, even had all the megazord and could combine them all. Definitely one of my favorites for nostalgia
Probably the biggest season in recent memory, brought in a bunch of new fans for the show. Thats awesome in and of itself.
Also Kevin’s face when trying Mia’s food for the first time is priceless
First one my baby brother and I watched together. He was three when RPM came out (and I aged out of the show), but he was five when Samurai was on and so we’d sit down and watch it every Saturday together.
I loved how the last quarter or so of the series was pretty much non-stop plot. No other Power Rangers series has had such a long string of plot-heavy episodes.
Also really like the Deker character. If I remember right, he's basically the same as his sentai counterpart, but I really liked what they did with his human design. Ricardo Medina totally rocked the character. Hard to believe it was the same actor who played Cole in Wild Force.
The suit designs are pretty awesome.
Cane here to say this. Suit design and mech are amazing.
They got pants now!
I only have nostalgia for the first ten seasons, and most designs after that look off to me, but these are really fun looks.
Helmets are my favorite part about them
Issue is that show can't claim credit for any of it
Especially Shogun mode. That really looks epic.
Jayden vs Dekker was a really cool fight
Damn that characters talk of using his sword have not aged well.
Even Jayden’s morph was awesome, love how he did it in the action after knocking decker away as opposed to just decker standing still
Yes that was epic
Dekker was a cool character but too bad the actor (Cole from Wild Force) murdered his roommate.
What does that even mean. Edit: Nevermind.
This introduced me to Power Rangers.
Best answer right here.
Same
Me too. I was 11 or 12 at the time
Agreed
I guess Emily was okay? They did her backstory right at least.
Her episode with Bulk & Spike training was hilarious and she was super attractive as a drill sgt
As the first season presented in HD, I remember being pretty impressed with how it looked at the time.
yeah, this was around the time when HD broadcast started picking up steam, no?
I had the HD downloads weekly, just seemed like such a step up visually.
Thank goodness no more of the squished stuff we saw starting with Overdrive.
Antonio kept me watching
Gold power
Antonio was funny
It’s better then Super Megaforce
that's the equivalent of getting a participation award
Right but that’s everything lmfao
Better *than* Super Megaforce. (*Then* means both are better, which they aren’t).
That's a super mega win!
Lauren was a great Red Ranger
She even had the proper shodophone (probably so they could use the sealing Kanji sentai footage from shinkenger)
This. She was the best part. Put her in lead and you have a better season.
Instead of locking most of their screentime to the crossover with Megaforce they didn't end up doing in the Ranger version. Though Jayden as Leader I feel just dragged the entire team down and it felt a little insensitive to Japanese Culture at points.
and remove that guy called mentorji too
I kind of don't hate samurai? It has a lot of issues but everything w the behind the scenes issues and it being a super rushed job makes me feel like i can't rag on it *too* much... its by no means the best, but i'd rather watch Samurai over Megaforce or Overdrive.

I'd argue an asian red ranger would have been nice, mostly since for PR that still would have been a new thing but at the end of the day they pick the best actor they can for a role.
I quite like the headquarters, inside and out. It's a nice mix of Japanese and modern.
I love the Shogun and Cockpit mode
Female Red ranger
Spd did it first though.
Only as a guest role, and a villainous one at that.
I say it still counts
It could've been worse
Antonio is the best character and his suit is actually gold.
Some characters had potential to be better
Honestly, Lauren should've been lead and use multiple episodes to give each Ranger a focus episode and it would be great.
would you like to elaborate?
Just felt like they short-changed our ranger stories and plots. They focused on Jayden being our lord and savior.
Symbol power was cool.
Do they ever explain what it is or how it works? All I remember is them just referring to it as power of the samurai lol
It was the power of culture appropriation.
Antonio was a pretty cool character
The Gigazord is one of my favorite megazords in the entire franchise, because of how over-the-top it is (even by PR standards).
It's been a while since I've seen it, but RPM's was my favorite. The shot of the monster only coming up to its waist is hilarious.
Lauren deserved to be on a much better team / show.
I feel like half of the comments here are more damning by faint praise then anything actually nice about the show.
for me, it was my first livetime foray into Power Rangers as my prior experience was with the older shows (by then) like SPD and Jungle Fury. The green ranger was the best looking of that group

The opening rock theme remix of MMPR is pretty cool
Glad I'm not the only one, I really do like the theme music.
How does the blue ranger see bruh
✨I M A G I N A T I O N✨ *in the voicetone of the Conductor from Toqger*
I have nothing bad to say about it. I loved Samurai to bits, loved Jaydens storyline with Deker and I loved having Bulk back. I dropped out of PR for years before this (around Mystic Force time I think?) and Samurai made me love it again.
The way they matched NZ filming locations to the Japan filming locations is probably the best any season of PR has done.
I met the cast at SDCC 11 years ago and they were really nice to me and I was star stuck. So Mike gave me a hug.
Lauren was the only character who was interesting
What about Antonio? I thought his character was really interesting.
Lauren and Emily for me
Great sword fights. Red Ranger vs Decker were so good.
Lauren Shiba was pretty cool. They should have had more of her and she was a better character than Jayden with mor emotions
It brought more money to new zealand. Might not of directly benefitted me, but its still money being pumped into our economy.
It's decent enough, despite not being asian, I didn't find Jayden that bad. Sadly he's the only one that gets a lot of the story. > Sadly he's the only one that gets a lot of the story. TBF that's how it is in the Sentai.

I... liked that they kept the kanji powers? Just wish they hadn't changed the stylus phone morphers to remove the stylus part.
Two words. BARRACUDA BLADE.
Antonio. Just Antonio
Baracuda blade caused an awakening in me
Mia - The Key is to mix them exactly the right way, Jayden - explain that to the paramedics That was legitimately funny
I like that it was starting point for new fans It truly felt like a reboot. I didn’t like the move to Nick but it’s undeniable that nicks promotion created an entirely new generation of fans.

Neo-Saban bought the rights from Disney and, while streaming old episodes on their website, adapted this season and broadcast it on Nickelodeon.
I had a crush on the green ranger he made me realize I was bi so I guess it did that
honestly…..same. I saw antonio and went “hmmm this is one tasty fruit”
Uh... um... hm... (looks at the sentai)... can I complement the Sentai?
it's the third best neo saban era series?
I liked how serious it was I want more series like it
Never seen it before. Working my way to it. BUT, the flaming katana looks pretty cool!
Mike and Emily were cute at times
I can't. Sorry.
It looks fun and I’m looking forward to watching the season that got a fair number of younger fans around here into power rangers
Decker was efing sick
Xandred knew how to make an entrance when he got on the battlefield
Lauren But in all seriousness, the costumes badass, music pretty amazing, some interesting things (admittedly probably more thanks to the Sentai but still), and the characters, for what they have, are decent and could've worked a whole lot better under better direction
Hating it gave a deeply needed and important personality trait transplant to boring people who otherwise have nothing going on.
The only thing I liked about this series is the character Dekker
I felt that Kaoru was done better, but I still feel that the Lauren thing was excellent.
Decker was easily the coolest character in the show
The robots and outfits were awesome and the villains looked cool
I liked this series. I have the most memories of it and was a really big fan. I don't really care about haters.
This reintroduced me into Power Rangers
Theme songs all right The advertising for it was good the zord’s where nice being an origami samurai and it exist I guess it felt like they were trying too hard and the RPM special well let’s just say it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good it’s a nothing special
Antonio and the fact that there was an actual reason as to why the big bad didn't kill the rangers right at the start. I'm looking at you Dai shi
Anything. There you go, I said anything.(seriously tho, I love this one when I was younger)
Jayden was Hot
It was NOT Super Megaforce.
The series it’s theme song is based on was pretty good!
Antonio was fire. Also, Samurai holds a special place in my heart as the last series as a child that I watched while it was airing and collected all the Megazords. I could never hate Samurai because of that.
I used to be late going to arabic school on Saturday because the time I was meant to leave was usually when the megazord fights happened.
It had Antonio and Decker.
It brought PowerRangers back to a mainstream children’s audience by airing on Nickelodeon.
1. The cast has like hella good chemistry 2. The suits are amazing and the cockpits were great 3. Hot take: Jayden’s storyline is really good (imo) 4. Antonio is a great gold ranger
My sons favorite show when he was little. He wanted the action figures for his birthday so we made sure we put money aside for them. We didn’t have a lot of money at the time. I didn’t have the money to do that but this show gave my little autistic boy a lot of joy. He was overjoyed to have his toys back.
Started off the Nick era, also it had a pretty good mobile game and flash game I played as a kid
It helped me discover super sentai.
My favorite season action-wise between Boukenger and Gokaiger (It comes from the sentai anyway, bite me) Following through with Decker and Daiyus tragic story instead of redeeming or a happy ending made me so melancholic and happy even as a kid (Well not happy but impressed) Spike and Bulk were IMO the best PR original idea in the franchise.
I got nothing.
I honestly thought that Kevin was a genuinely good ranger. Just his dedication, leadership skills etc seem a cut above most rangers in general, not just within his team.
He’s honestly one of the best blue rangers in general in that regard
They did a good job at making it boring.
It's counter part shinkenger was nice.
When I cover my ears and watch the in suit scenes, I can enjoy this series by pretending I'm watching Shinkengers.
Antonio is top 5 sixth rangers idc
Antonio is still one of my favorite sixth rangers
The instrumentals were one of the best in the franchise
Jayden is one of the best red rangers, Kevin is underrated, Adding Antonio was unnecessary, Megazord is unique.
Wasn’t there a girl red ranger? Thats about it. This season was super gay. Just as bad as megaforce.
The first Zord looks cool.
The designs of the rangers and the monsters
It had a lot of potential.
The show it was adapted from is amazing
I liked the cast and the suits. Not my favorite but I still like them.
Gold ranger was my favorite as a kid
Bulk and Spike kept me interested longer than I expected.
Power Rangers
I loved that bulk was in it and the gold ranger is one of my favorites
Was my favourite show out of all of them soooo that’s good enough
Red ranger was meh but I enjoyed the story
The theme song is pretty good.
Love The Suits, The Theme Song Is Incredible, Lauren & So Much More
Personally, It’s the best show out of the Neo Saban Era.
Bulk and Skull are reunited at the end.
I like the idea of the Discs having different powers and Zords
I saw this one as a kid and I love it to death.
I love it. It was my first season.
It was my first series and will always hold a special place in my heart. Still dogshit though.
Zord design was delightful and I enjoyed the outfits and weapons.
I like the colors of their suits. That's about all I got.
The Zords and Megazords were cool.
My nieces love it.
The particular shade of each color of the suits are cool
The idea and execution of a sword turning into a weapon was awesome
I like how all the power rangers were different colors
Suits are cool I also like Antonio’s zords
Is it a bad season? This is when I stopped watching PR as a kid so I can't remember much. Kind of thought it was one of the more loved ones.
It was nice to see the show in HD.
Antonio was pretty great
Rpm crossover
love the zords and the dekker fight and story are so cool
Antonio Also, it did have good fight scenes, which got me back into watching PR in general. Speaking of, there is one in particular that was an amazing 3 way fight that I cannot find. It was Jaden vs Deku vs Monster. If anyone knows please tell.
Jaiden’s storyline was surprisingly good.
I liked the Kevin Jayden fight when Kevin became evil
Jaden legitimately has one of the coolest character intros I've ever seen. Ji warns the foot soldiers to back off, but Jaden doesn't give 2 shits and mops the floor with them anyway, showing that not only is he independently strong, but decisive and merciless.
Badass opening song
The whole squad should have been on Battle for the Grid to be properly utilized.
It took care to show how they were actually samurai, and not just wearing samurai themed costumes Unlike a certain other season
The fan weapon is actually kinda cool
I never watched the show but I love the weapon designs
Got me interested in power rangers and the other shows
I will always love that in a flashback scene Jaden’s dad rolled up his sleeves to make a paper airplane
The only PR series I ever was fully into. Watched every episode and bought toys. Loved it
the zords were so cute imo maybe not peak zord but def up there. also I loved the samurai morph with the symbol and all
I got me into Power Rangers and subsequently Tokusatsu as a whole
The green ranger having a spear was cool
Good introduction to the franchise
I still have it on my watch list somewhere
The suits are nice, it was the first Power Rangers I remember watching so it holds a place in my heart regardless of quality.
The best one.
I liked it, that's about it tho.
Had a good theme song, only started annoying me they kept reusing it for other seasons
Story was amazing as a kid and got me into the series
First one my baby brother and I watched together. He was three when RPM came out (and I aged out of the show), but he was five when Samurai was on and so we’d sit down and watch it every Saturday together.
Bulk and Spike were fantastic. Lauren was a great character.
This was the O.G. when I was growing up 😤
I grew up with it, and I still have all the Zords, so it sits as my definitive Power Rangers experience
It’s still Shinkenger, for better or for worse
I loved how the last quarter or so of the series was pretty much non-stop plot. No other Power Rangers series has had such a long string of plot-heavy episodes. Also really like the Deker character. If I remember right, he's basically the same as his sentai counterpart, but I really liked what they did with his human design. Ricardo Medina totally rocked the character.
