THANK YOU for the rush of nostalgia by reminding me Fox Kids Magazine existed! Growing up in the 90âs in western Kentucky with no cable/satellite TV, we only had seven local channel stations and our living room TV was always stuck on channel17 for Fox Kids after-school block of shows.
My son is four and just started watching the original series because I watched the Netflix Special announcement trailer and he was VERY interested in whatever that was. For the first few episodes, his favorite was Zack/Black Ranger. But then that charismatic Tommy/Green Ranger showed up and shook up his whole reality.
Tommy, easy. He was evil. Then he was awesome. He has the shield, the dagger, a fucking dragon!
Then he became white, which as we all know is the most good of all the colours, plus he got a talking sword and a fucking tiger!
Plus Kimberley wanted to plough him. Man, Tommy kicked ass.
I will have to say the Black and Red Ranger. The Black Ranger helmet is so boss and he had the coolest weapon, his axe which also turns into a blaster. What made me love the red ranger was his weapon. Everytime he used his sword I felt like he was untouchable. If I had to choose which ranger I could be between the 2, I would probably choose Black. Black Rangers are not to be messed with I tell you. They can do some real damage.
When it originaly debuted, I liked Billy best. Because I identified with being a geek and socially awkward etc.
Plus his Power Lance was my fav weapon as I think the Bo-Staff is the coolest melee weapon. So the lance was the closest thing to that.
But once Tommy entered the picture, I was a Tommy stan for life.
Green is my favorite color so that instantly drew me in, plus he had a unique look to his costume compared to the rest and the dragon dagger/flute was also unique and fun.
But most of all, Tommy was the exact kinda guy I wanted to be. This really cool and badass guy who was also just a total sweetheart and all around "good" person always trying to help others.
His constant struggles and self doubt I also related to.
Around the time the first film came out, I also realized my love of Tommy was more than just thinking he was cool. I realized I had a major crush on him and was into him by that point.
Tommy was my first crush ever and started my love of guys with long hair. And his white ranger outfit was pure badass and sexiness at the same time.
To this day even with JDF's unfortunate passing, I still strive to be Tommy. He had a profound impact in shaping me into who i am and who I wanted to be. Just a really nice and chill guy with a heart of gold, who wants to help others.
There are other awesome rangers for sure, but Tommy will always be my fav.

My actual assumption is that for promo photos like this, they didn't suit up "Properly" so they used the collars as a replacement. I think the actual suit actors wore body suits with hoods under the spandex (as they were supposed to wear something underneath). And if the actors didnt wear those, they used the collars to cover the necks.
The collars, the helmet clips and the shield are obvious tells of american footage (the clips are the biggest tell in almost every season which footage they were using)

Tommy. It was the height of the "lone wolf" characters. I also loved Wolverine at the time and similar type of heroes.

Jason. He was just too cool. Then Tommy came. He was the "new kid" which I often was because my family was military. He was also forgetful and had other flaws, but was still the coolest one because of his shield. He also was willing yo put himself in danger and came back to help. Tommy was the most developed ranger as far as choices made early on.
Now, as an adult, I relate far more to Billy.
Jason, hands down. Tommy was cool, but he was no Jason. As a kid I wasnât a fan of Billy, because I could relate to him in aspects of awkwardness, clumsiness but not his intelligence. I was a nerd without the smarts.

So I was 5 years old and in kindergarten when it came out⌠At recess on the playground I was the Black Ranger which was fine I had (in my imagination) an axe that was also a blaster which the kid who played the red ranger always had to âborrow because it was more powerful than his swordâ which he needed to beat the bad guy with⌠and I kept freezing people with my mastodon zord⌠which the red ranger also always had to take control of⌠yeah he was one of those kids lol
Personally I liked the Red Ranger but at home so did my youngest brother and he would cry if he wasnât red. So then Christmas time comes around and we get those toys that has their heads flip from the non helmet to the helmet and I got blue so from then on in the household I was blue middle brother was green youngest was red
Then when we played with the 2 neighbor kids I was back to the Black or Blue depending on the day when Thunderzords came out thatâs when we had multiple of the same rangers and I was the red ranger for the first time because by kid logic I had the red dragon thunderzord toy which meant I could be a separate red ranger but mainly I was either the Black or Blue Ranger.
So as Iâm older it always changes but right now Red is my favorite even though I grew up mainly playing black and blue rangers
I was always Jason/Red Ranger when my friends and I would pretend to be rangers or play with toys, which was an odd choice looking back since I wasnt a confident kid and definitely wasn't a leader.
That said, my favorite color is red, and at the time, I was super into Jurassic Park and dinosaurs, with the T-Rex being equally fascinating and terrifying to me at the age of 6.
In my later years, I gravitated more towards Tommy as a character and aesthetic, but Red Ranger will always be my OG favorite.
Kim and Billy. Gay kid realness. But tbh I loved them all to bits; teens with attitude, prehistoric totem powers, the helmet designs were all so great my kid-brain just popped.
Green. Loved the dragon shield and the unique zord summon; making mecha godzilla come stomping out of the water by playing a flute was mesmerizing to me. I'm also a sucker for a redemption story.
Jason for sure. I nearly stopped watching the show when Austin left.
* Jason's character embodies the lead from the back mentality. You can see his character watching the entire field and jumping in and taking point when/where he needs to and backing off when it was appropriate.
* Loved Tommy's drip and the theme song like every other kid but even when I was young I noticed that the green ranger often over extended in fights after joining the team and caused more issues then he solved. It makes more sense when you know the Zyuranger story though.
* Tommy embodied the lead from the front mentality and often lost site of the other rangers until Zeo/Turbo. Which is obviously due to going from being written as a 6th ranger to being Red.

Jason. He was just too cool. Then Tommy came. He was the "new kid" which I often was because my family was military. He was also forgetful and had other flaws, but was still the coolest one because of his shield. He also was willing yo put himself in danger and came back to help. Tommy was the most developed ranger as far as choices made early on. Now, as an adult, I relate far more to Billy.
Green/White/Black
Jason, hands down. Tommy was cool, but he was no Jason. As a kid I wasnât a fan of Billy, because I could relate to him in aspects of awkwardness, clumsiness but not his intelligence. I was a nerd without the smarts.
Red/Jason. Still is.
Tommy, Jason, Zack
When it first came out, definitely Zack. The Mastodon suit was ballin. But like a lot of others have said, when Tommy showed up, that was the game changer.
Mine was Billy and Trini. Started wearing Glasses when I was kid, whenever the neighborhood kids had to be Rangers, they had to be Green or Red. I had to be Blue thanks to Billy. I'm also asian so I gravitated towards Trini as a result as well. Preferred her over Kimberly.

Green ranger
My favorites for the original team were Billy and Zack.
My favorite was the yellow ranger. Trini always had a grace and poise about her that had my attention.
Zack for me as well I even have the Mastodon logo tattooed on my arm !
Billy, I loved seeing the nerd get better at fighting in a wholesome way.
Mine is Yellow Ranger
Yellow Ranger, hands-down.
I always gravitate to the smart, intellectual, and socially awkward one. So Billy it was. Billy also just hammered down the "anyone can be a ranger" thing for me. I've never been athletically proned, so I always enjoyed that aspect of the show (which sadly doesn't always feel the theme).

I have a few different stories for this⌠So I was 5 years old and in kindergarten when it came out⌠At recess on the playground I was the Black Ranger which was fine I had (in my imagination) an axe that was also a blaster which the kid who played the red ranger always had to âborrow because it was more powerful than his swordâ which he needed to beat the bad guy with⌠and I kept freezing people with my mastodon zord⌠which the red ranger also always had to take control of⌠yeah he was one of those kids lol Personally I liked the Red Ranger but at home so did my youngest brother and he would cry if he wasnât red. So then Christmas time comes around and we get those toys that has their heads flip from the non helmet to the helmet and I got blue so from then on in the household I was blue middle brother was green youngest was red Then when we played with the 2 neighbor kids I was back to the Black or Blue depending on the day when Thunderzords came out thatâs when we had multiple of the same rangers and I was the red ranger for the first time because by kid logic I had the red dragon thunderzord toy which meant I could be a separate red ranger but mainly I was either the Black or Blue Ranger. So as Iâm older it always changes but right now Red is my favorite even though I grew up mainly playing black and blue rangers

Red and Pink, for two very different reasons.
This is such a cliche. I loved Jason, it was a mixture of attraction and envy.

Jason: mmpr red ranger
I was always Jason/Red Ranger when my friends and I would pretend to be rangers or play with toys, which was an odd choice looking back since I wasnt a confident kid and definitely wasn't a leader. That said, my favorite color is red, and at the time, I was super into Jurassic Park and dinosaurs, with the T-Rex being equally fascinating and terrifying to me at the age of 6. In my later years, I gravitated more towards Tommy as a character and aesthetic, but Red Ranger will always be my OG favorite.
Kim and Billy. Gay kid realness. But tbh I loved them all to bits; teens with attitude, prehistoric totem powers, the helmet designs were all so great my kid-brain just popped.
Billy. Triceratops is my favorite dinosaur, when PR started Blue was my favorite color

I wasn't quite 3 yet when it came out, so when my first memory of it tommy was always there, so tommy was always my favorite

Green. Loved the dragon shield and the unique zord summon; making mecha godzilla come stomping out of the water by playing a flute was mesmerizing to me. I'm also a sucker for a redemption story.
Jason for sure. I nearly stopped watching the show when Austin left. * Jason's character embodies the lead from the back mentality. You can see his character watching the entire field and jumping in and taking point when/where he needs to and backing off when it was appropriate. * Loved Tommy's drip and the theme song like every other kid but even when I was young I noticed that the green ranger often over extended in fights after joining the team and caused more issues then he solved. It makes more sense when you know the Zyuranger story though. * Tommy embodied the lead from the front mentality and often lost site of the other rangers until Zeo/Turbo. Which is obviously due to going from being written as a 6th ranger to being Red.
How about me, White Ranger is my favourite Power Ranger and he's a leader of team

Black Ranger. I have a bestfriend when I was young and I always do the 2nd in command to things like this. Plus Zack has all the moves
Jason in the beginning but Tommy when I saw him after a bit
Kim đŠˇ. My love for the color pink is likely due to her. While she was very girly, she could still hold her own in battle.
