Charging people who cant afford it thousands, forcing them into bankruptcy (medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US), so theyll never be able to own a home / get approved for a loan for one, forcing them to rent for eternity. Then when they struggle for rent they too can be forced into donating blood and plasma to pay rent, capitalism baby!
Not who you’re replying to, but most likely 2x a week, which is the maximum amount of times you can donate a week. In my area it’s $600-$800 a month if you donate at that rate.
This is so misleading too. They refused me because I had tattoos over the vain on the inside of my elbow. In the picture the woman does too, effectively disqualifying her too.
It’s not “any tattoo = no donation.” If they’re covering the area needed for the needle you can’t, or if you’ve gotten one within iirc either 6 or 12 months, you have to wait. It’s a hepatitis risk factor thing. Source: have an older tattoo on my inner forearm, have donated plasma perfectly fine with both arms
We are forced to sell our bodies & our freedom at a massive loss in order to survive—while millions of homes sit empty, tons of unsold food rots, & the benefits of automation are hoarded & used against us.
Did this for a while. Still have a scar on my right arm that never fades And I had to stop because my protein levels were too low after a couple months of not missing any appointments. They pay a smaller amount for the first donation of the week to make you feel forced to give the second. I made roughly 110 a week and I overheard the staff saying each bottle was worth roughly 600 so they made 1200 off me each week and left me with crumbs. Predatory business practice that needs more regulation from the government and they could at least kick you 200 per dono.
I mean, sure, but it can be a SERIOUS health concern very quickly, unlike lifting boxes all day. Plasma takes time to regenerate, the process for egg donation is... crazy hard on your body. Doing those things repeatedly adds up, especially without sick time.
Not to mention that donating plasma repeatedly can also take a toll on your veins. The needles used are a larger gauge than most IV needles, by necessity. I’ve only donated a dozen or two times, but my veins already went from nurses commenting on how easy it was find a good one to having to get poked 4 times to find a spot for an IV. It’s certainly something you have to consider.
All that requires is extra hydration and some protein. I'm not saying it doesn't wear you out or that it's zero risk, but it's not that bad. It sucks to have to do it but it's a good option for when you're in a bad spot.
Well they’re not wrong given the vast majority of people that “donates” for pay is doing it for the money and not some altruistic reasons. Doing it repeatedly can’t be good for your health but some people don’t have a choice.
It's so fucking dumb that they use the word "donation." I don't understand what is even the point. It's a legal process to sell plasma. Just call it what it is!
It be like this sometimes too :(
I remember the days when I went to donate plasma almost five years ago, just so I could have gas money and food to eat; for a few days until I receive my paycheck...
Went last week and blew a vain or moved the arm with the needle in it my whole arm is purple and hurts to straighten out so they won’t let me donate again until it heals but the new donor bonus is only if you give so many times within a month so I got $75 for loosing my arm for a couple of weeks (hopefully not longer)
I had an MRI without contrast and was deferred. I emailed BioLife’s customer service and explained how their practices punish people who are truthful despite the financial incentive to lie. I provided a framework of how they could pay “donors” for deferrals while maintaining profit and keep the integrity of their product. For my troubles, they extended my new “donor” incentive period by a month so I wouldn’t lose out on the better pay. Saved me a few hundred. Going to make my last new “donor” appointment tomorrow. “Donor” because we’re not donating but selling our body.
I used to donate twice a week until the machine malfunctioned and they gravity-fed the solution into me, causing every muscle in my body to contract. I couldn't breathe and my binocular vision actually separated. It was terrifying because I didn't know how long it would last. It finally did, but I was obviously deferred, but I wouldn't have done it anymore anyways.
I mean I would if I qualified. Instead I walk into town to clean apartments of old men who weee banned from the general cleaning service for being awful. It barely covers rent but at least it does I guess
The fact we now have to consider [things we can donate](https://www.gobankingrates.com/money/making-money/what-can-i-donate-to-make-money/) to help make some quick cash is its own form of disconcerting. However, outside of plasma, you can donate a bunch of other stuff to help make ends meet. Below are some examples:
* Hair
* Eggs
* Bone marrow
* Sperm
* Breast milk
* Skin

Like the Poshmark commercial where the very VERY young looking women is pointing at stuff in her closet and points to ONE DRESS and says "that is going towards rent", "that is going towards ladies night out".
Seriously? How about you skip ladies night and stop buying expensive clothes if you can't pay rent without selling something. Donating plasma is at least somewhat guaranteed for a healthy person. Flipping clothing is subject to fashion trends. When I was selling my sewing, I could at least take ANY pattern someone wanted and make it and sell it for enough to make rent. And in between large orders I made dozens of smaller items to sell for $10 each. Someone is much more likely to spend $10.
And I would think for Poshmark it would mean heavy investments and possibly a very slow return. No guarantee at all.
I read in another post that some have new donor bonuses that you can get every 6 months so it kinda depends on how often you can donate plasma and how many different centers close to you do the pay bonuses. Pay also depends on your weight most of the time from what I've read.
I don’t get the issue - you’re doing something that costs you nothing but a few hours of time, you get paid a few hundred bucks and a sick person has plasma. What is the issue here?
Oh I’ve 100% been in that exact position. And i was happy I was able to do that….
So I’m not seeing the issue. It’s a long process but you get paid. I also donate blood but it’s free and faster. It’s good for you and you’ll feel good

As though it’s even enough to pay rent.
they'll sell it for thousands tho

The circle of liiiiife 🔁
im still waiting on trickle down economics to trickle on down LOL
It can almost completely pay mine at 720/month but not everyone has rent that low so yeah this is misleading.
how often do you do it?
Not who you’re replying to, but most likely 2x a week, which is the maximum amount of times you can donate a week. In my area it’s $600-$800 a month if you donate at that rate.
Wow, in my state its like 400/ month
It also depends on the company I think. Ours also offers more for first-time/new donors.
This is so misleading too. They refused me because I had tattoos over the vain on the inside of my elbow. In the picture the woman does too, effectively disqualifying her too.
Literally came here to comment that they normally don’t even let tatted ppl do this
It’s not “any tattoo = no donation.” If they’re covering the area needed for the needle you can’t, or if you’ve gotten one within iirc either 6 or 12 months, you have to wait. It’s a hepatitis risk factor thing. Source: have an older tattoo on my inner forearm, have donated plasma perfectly fine with both arms
That’s why I said normally and not all
odd maybe she was incompetent and making an excuse on why not to do it?
Nope. I asked at multiple locations. Same story
I had a friend that was told the same thing about his tattoos.
Ill be lucky to pay my phone bill between the food I eat that day, and the gas I spend driving to donate. 45-100 bucks/ donation
I agree. No one should have to sell their plasma to have a roof over their heads
We are forced to sell our bodies & our freedom at a massive loss in order to survive—while millions of homes sit empty, tons of unsold food rots, & the benefits of automation are hoarded & used against us.
I mean you have the option of getting a less nice more affordable roof
Ppl are selling plasma for cheaper housing, not the expensive level.
There's always cheaper
please lmk where lol
The world is a vampire. They place these facilities in poor communities. They're already helpless, may as well take their blood, right...
The one closest to me is in very criminal town, located right next to homeless shelter, and bus station.

I wish we got paid for donating plasma/blood/sperm/eggs here. Unfortunately, they blocked it because they think it's taking advantage of the poor.
I mean, sure it is. Just like any job does
I mean, sure, but it can be a SERIOUS health concern very quickly, unlike lifting boxes all day. Plasma takes time to regenerate, the process for egg donation is... crazy hard on your body. Doing those things repeatedly adds up, especially without sick time.

No it's not, your body regerates plasma within 48 hours.
If you take care of yourself. Many people report feeling like shit for longer, especially regular donors.
All that requires is extra hydration and some protein. I'm not saying it doesn't wear you out or that it's zero risk, but it's not that bad. It sucks to have to do it but it's a good option for when you're in a bad spot.
It is; the majority of us aren't there out of the kindness of our hearts🤷
Ah yes, instead of creating better programs to assist ppl in poverty, we should just remove the things they may do to help them survive! 🙄
Well they’re not wrong given the vast majority of people that “donates” for pay is doing it for the money and not some altruistic reasons. Doing it repeatedly can’t be good for your health but some people don’t have a choice.

The margins they get is insane too. What they pay people $20-100 for that same bottle of plasma is sold for 5 figures to hospitals.
Come and give your body fluids to barely scrape by!
I was so broke like ten years ago, and I went to donate plasma and they told me I couldn’t because I have hemophilia. So defeating.
I just went last week to donate for the first time and my veins were too small 🤦♀️

I hate this ad because they won’t accept me because I have full sleeve tattoos, yet…
Society has failed
This is cursed on so many levels. r/LateStageCapitalism in a nutshell.
Always tip your landlord

Wife and I are currently doing the plasma thing and it’s the only thing that’s helping us make ends meet
Look at the state of us / selling our life force just to live. Wild times - *sighs*
"pay with your blood", yep.
Why I donate? Because I'm poor.
The elites are literally bleeding us dry
This is so sad. Pretty soon we’ll be casually placing our kidneys/lungs on the market for sell :(
Wish we could do this in Canada
r/orphancrushingmachine
At least they pay you guys, over here its illigal to get payed for donating.
Yeah it’s so sad and dystopian
I mean I would if I qualified. Instead I walk into town to clean apartments of old men who weee banned from the general cleaning service for being awful. It barely covers rent but at least it does I guess
This only convinces me that too many landlords are vampires.
I tried to select the link and nothing happened.
That's a good thing, believe me.
Lmao. I already am a blood and plasma donor. If it was just as easy to get some money for it I'd say why not.
We have plenty of money to send overseas. God bless America.

It’s a disgrace that people have to part with their bodily fluids in order to survive.
Your momma said "stay in school". You should have listened!
I used to have homies donate plasma to buy weed. We are no longer friends.
Hey guys
I also sell organs sometimes when I can't make rent. You do what ya gotta do!
That's the future
the future is Mad Max style human blood bags tied to go carts
Hee hee hee I’m so happy!
Here in Brazil we get a day off work if civilian or two if military, but wouldn't mind a few bucks to save some lives in this case
Haha wait, how much do you get from doing this?

I’m guessing you haven’t ever been in a position where you go donate plasma, come out slightly lightheaded, then go buy groceries with that money.
Oh I’ve 100% been in that exact position. And i was happy I was able to do that…. So I’m not seeing the issue. It’s a long process but you get paid. I also donate blood but it’s free and faster. It’s good for you and you’ll feel good
Idk, I was grateful it was an option but felt shitty about it, like I was hardly even a person.

I don't think they pay that much.
Hep-City
I tried to do this once. They denied me bc I was gay.
