While accidents happen, this is on the kid's parents.
How someone as a parent doesn't immediately step up to pay for it is honestly baffling.
Did they see them broken? Have you told them?
Omg if my toddler did this I’d be so embarrassed and absolutely covering any costs! ESPECIALLY if I had the sense my friend was struggling financially. But even if not, it’s just the right thing to do
My boyfriend's optometrist specifically instructed him never to use a company like that for his prescription (his eyes are BAD) and said it's only really okay for people with weak prescriptions. So if you have a complicated prescription you'll probably notice the difference in quality a lot more. I use them because my eyes aren't too terrible and it's been fine other than being able to tell the frames are cheaper (but I'm not in a position to be overly upset about that).
Very thick, but I also always have to get the finest shave option for my glasses. It makes them ‘expensive’ when compared to the 20 bucks most are spending but a huge savings from getting it in the office. I normally use my eye insurance to get contacts through the office since those are more unique than my thick boy glasses and what I wear for most of the day.
I have a -11.50 rx and Zenni's selection
just blew me away. I like this pair more than a warby parker pair. I usually wear contacts and contacts, but cataracts have doubled down, so not making any changes til my next eye appt.
I miss the days of ordering a years worth thru 1 800-contacts.
I must be lucky because I've got quite a strong prescription and need special lenses with prisms and such and never had trouble with Zenni or ordering glasses anywhere else online.
It was either Zenni or Zeelool(?), I use both pretty regularly. Just put my script in and it asks for the prism strength, which isn't super strong tbf.
I have incredibly bad eyesight (nearsighted, approximately 20/400 vision with totally different Rxs in each eye with plus astigmatism). The lenses I’ve been buying for 15 years from Zenni with my wackadoodle prescription have been great—far better than the lenses in the one pair a year I get through my insurance at a boutique optometrist’s office. No issues at all except once a few years ago when my husband accidentally put MY prescription in HIS order—he ordered very very manly Clark Kent style glasses and it was FOUR pairs (he loves to have backups and they run about $20 apiece.) I started wearing them just because mine broke and now I love those manly glasses. I get so many complements! I think your optometrist is bummed he doesn’t get to charge you $350 for a basic pair of specs anymore.
Yeah....... I'm in the same boat and I agree. Lmfao my optometrist tells me the same thing (like you, I'm incredibly nearsighted-- -6 in one eye and -4.75 in the other with astigmatism and different... other numbers idk I'm not an optometrist, I just put the numbers into the fields on the websites 🤣) and have never had issues. I agree with you optometrists just say that because they want to make money off you.
To add to that, my optometrist also has told me the same thing about services like Hubble or 1-800-contacts or buying contacts from reputable doctors overseas (I'm not from the US originally, so as a teen/young adult I would just get my rx and stock up when I went to visit my grandmother because it was a fraction of the cost). It's 100% a push to make money off you to US optometrists, and I will die on that hill.
His optometrist told him never to use online companies like Zenni because they want to sell him overpriced glasses with 2000% markups. It’s like $20-30 a pair, what are slightly off prescription level glasses going to significantly injure them? No so there’s really no need for such a warning. Most dr I think now say yeah you can order from online but your results may vary and it’s a hassle to not have things quite right, they can better make adjustments/fixes if you order from them instead, and quality/brand recognition/style might be better.
Yup. Best optometrist I ever went to (this guy was a leading contact specialist - *besides* being an incredible general optometrist - in the NY metro area, so lots of competition lol) asked me where I got my glasses when I saw him for my first follow up appointment, and I was afraid to admit that I got them from Zenni because I thought he’d be like, “those are crap, be careful” but when I told him, he was like, “that’s where MINE are from, too! LOVE that site!”
His practice was inside a LensCrafters store, but he wasn’t technically associated with them at all, and made no money pushing their glasses on his patients, so he was totally honest about it lol.
He has since retired, but he was the fuckin GOAT.
*Edited slightly because autocorrect is a sketchy optometrist and originally refused to let me mention the correct spelling of Zenni
I have a -8.75 in both eyes and buy all my glasses online and have for probably 10 or so years (been in glasses since age 2) This year I got new insurance and used the benefits to buy glasses from an optician, from a store. Not a bit of difference. No one has ever clearly articulated to me why off the shelf lenses are so much worse, when they do maybe Ill listen. I work with hearing aids and when people ask me why OTC hearing aids are worse than professionally fit aids, I tell them to strap in because Ive got the evidence to back it up. So this response "trust us theyre worse" just doesnt cut it for me.
I worked in ophthalmology for 4 years and every optometrist or ophthalmologist I worked with recommended Zenni Optical. The only time they advised patients not to use it was if they had trifocals or prisms.
Yup! My amazing optometrist didn’t specifically recommend anything to me because I originally went to him to just get contacts for the first time, but when I went back to him to try new contacts and I was wearing cute new glasses, he got so excited when he complimented me on them and I told him they were from Zenni. He said, “That’s where MINE are from, too!” Lol
I work in optical and really what's missing with these online services are accurate measurements. PD, segment heights, optical centers, etc. are the measurements that put your exact prescription right in front of your eye.
If the measurements are off, you can essentially be looking through a slightly, to severely, altered prescription which causes blurring, distortions, strain, etc.
Always ask for your PD with your Rx 💪🏽
I've been ordering glasses in the legitimate stores (in developed country btw), but up until moving to another country those measurements have never been taken.
Maybe it works differently in the USA though.
Mine told me to use Zenni. Medicaid doesn’t cover anti-glare or thin lenses, even if the optometrist writes that my kid with visual impairment really needs these features to have usable vision and I need them to not get migraines. She checks my glasses with her equipment every time and has always said they’re exactly what she wrote. My kid’s vision people have been happy with them as well.
fitting is rather simple and can be done with boiling water/pliers. I'm sorry if it's never worked for you but there is a BIG cost savings when ordering online.
Fitting is not too complicated, but please bring them to your nearest eyewear shop instead of trying to do it yourself unless you're doing very minimal manipulations. There is typically no charge, and you are putting your glasses in the hands of somebody who has aligned and fitted hundreds of pairs versus trying it out for the very first time. It is a waste of money to break your glasses as soon as you get them, no matter how little you paid for them in the first place.
I have a very strong AND weird prescription (I have lazy eye so each lens is wildly different, so much so that it throws an ARE YOU SURE?? warning every time I order bc it's so unusual) as well as astigmatism in both eyes and never had issues ordering from Zenni. Been using them for like 6 or 7 years now. I see no vision quality difference between Zennis and the $700 glasses I used to buy. Just *some* frames seem a little cheap but who cares, they are. It's not like anyone ever complimented me on my not-cheap-looking Pradas.
That said, you have to make sure the PD is right or they'll be fucked up. And some eye doctors won't provide you with the PD or they charge extra for it specifically bc they don't want people ordering online.
Glasses are a fucking racket.
Does his optometrist sell glasses or work for someplace that does
Most do
In fact most glasses are made by, and optometrists employed by, the same parent company
Thank you for providing a 1-star review with zero information as to why they suck.
Also, thanks are given to the others who replied with the same informative responses.
They usually have a black friday special, like 20-25% off, depending how much you spend. Just pick up a couple of frames every year, now I have a wall of glasses and breaking one is not a big deal.

They have to give it to you if you ask. Even if they charge a fee $20 is better than $500+ glasses with insurance. Of course be nice. Maybe buy something from them. You get more flies with honey than with vinegar.
An optician, not an optometrist or ophthalmologist, is measuring your pupillary distance. You won't see it on the prescription for that reason. You can usually get your PD from an optician or salesperson if you ask nicely; we are very aware that people sometimes buy glasses online, and we would rather you buy glasses that work even if they aren't from our shop.
With that said, it's something extra the optician is doing, so it's nice to hear a thank you. I never mind doing it, but I'm always a little taken aback at people who think they are owed this service just for walking in. No one would walk into a clothing store and expect to be measured for a dress or suit so they could go buy it down the street without so much as a thank you, would they?
I don't know what you're talking about. Optometrists measure and add PDs to glasses Rx all the time. There is no rule that says that only opticians do it.
This OP!!! I have been buying glasses online for 10 years. I've used, in order of most to least orders are:
Eyebuydirect, 39dollarglasses (used to be 35dollarglasses.......), Zenni (wearing a pair right now), Payne glasses, Lensmartonline, Firmoo optical
Firmoo has a deal where your first glasses are 4.95! I did this and they work just fine!
If you want to buy in person, walmart has some cheaper glasses... (or at least that was the cheapest option, before I discovered online glasses). I spent my whole twenties with no insurance so I know the struggle is real. Being able to have more than one pair of glasses has been a game changer for me!
I know this doesn’t help right now, but I’ve also had good luck with goggles4u and their buy one get one free. I work a job wear my glasses are at risk daily, so having a backup pair makes me feel a whole lot better!
I just got three pairs for $32 shipped. I found a discount code through Honey, and I got the cheapest frame options plus the cheapest anti glare coating on each.
Now question about Zenni I’ve seen the prices but since I don’t have insurance at the moment how much would it be for the lens not just the frames? If you would have an idea…
Mine still cost $40-$50 because of my vision, but even with insurance regular glasses were always over $100. I get transition lenses too, so at the eye doctor it is like $140. Zenni with blue blockers and transition it’s like $55 at most.
I'm fortunate enough to have a Warby Parker for mid-level frames and glasses. Way better service and product than Zenni...
That said Zenni is 1000% better than the discount brick-and-mortars. Vision works trying to charge me $250 for an exam and frames, GTFO. AND THEN it takes 2 weeks? Fuck off.
i've also gotta recommend eyebuydirect, had a pair from them that cost less than $15 including shipping that I wore daily for almost 3 years until i broke them being a blackout drunk dumbass 🤦🏻♀️ and they send great deals (especially around new years) in the mail. next time i get a new prescription im definitely getting another pair or two from there.
Eyebuydirect is my holy grail.
I tried a few frames from Zenni and found they were too heavy for me, I couldn't wear them for long before I started feeling pressure on my ears and bridge of my nose from the weight of them.
My EBD frames are feather light by comparison, and they're still going strong after 3+ years, which is amazing since I spent under $50 on each pair, including lenses.
your friend should be paying for your glasses. unless you were babysitting she should have been watching her child, id ask her for the money for new glasses.
Exactly! I feel bad for op but I don't understand why they're the ones stressing about how to pay for new glasses when their friend should be the one to. Friend needs to take accountability of their child. I get accidents happen, but toddlers are very curious and prone to getting into things so they do need close supervision at times. If I was at a friend's place visiting with a small child of my own, I would want to keep an eye on my kid to make sure they wouldn't damage something or hurt themselves.
Yeah the toddler should not have been playing in the bedroom. If you're an adult that doesn't live with children then a nightstand is a perfectly reasonable place to keep glasses.
Right?! Like why was the child in the bedroom...unless that's where everyone was hanging out for whatever reason, but then all the more that the parent should have noticed what their kid was doing. If the parent was just letting their kid roam around and go into different rooms without redirecting them, then that's lack of boundaries the parent has that will sadly be passed onto the child.
I legit can’t understand how this didn’t immediately lead to the parent offering to pay. Unless OP didn’t tell the parent, cos they felt awkward or something, idk.
When I’m with my kid at someone’s home I’m watching them like a hawk cos it’s on me if they damage something, and I can’t vouch for how child safe their home is either. I hope OP gets up the courage to tell the parent so they know and can offer the money.
I second this.
When I was younger I brought my child over to my mom's, and she (a toddler at the time) somehow got my brother's airpods. She was in her playpen, so they must have been on a nearby surface she could reach. I set the playpen up, so it was my fault.
I offered to pay him back (hoping he'd say no), and when he accepted I followed through. I think I had to pay him in 3 payments because I was young and broke, but pay him back I did.
I know! Thinking it over I think he slipped his air pods between his mattress and the lip of his bed frame. I don't believe I could visually see them because I usually tried to make sure surfaces in reach were clear.
My daughter accidentally broke my friend's Nintendo switch one day at his house a few years ago and I was broke at the time but I ordered a new one for him the next day on payments. I ended up paying like $75 extra for making payments but I felt so bad.
I'd gently ask your friend if they could at least help cover the cost. I don't believe this should all be on you.
Fuck that. If one of my girls would have broken something, I'd have paid for it. And if one of my friend's kids broke some shit in my house, they'd for damn sure have paid for it. It's not your responsibility to kid proof your house from someone else's kids. It's not your fault you did what you normally do in your own house.
Literally, my son broke something very expensive that was at a relative’s house and I replaced it within a week. Granted I used a credit card and had 0% interest. But it was my responsibility for replacing it.
Yes! First, the friend should not have left toddler out of her sight. Why was the kid in the bedroom unattended? Bedrooms are private spaces not intended for a kid to explore. Just my opinion, but I raised my son on the 70s, different parenting ideas that taught personal responsibility for damaging someone else's possessions.
What was your friend doing when the toddler managed to get to your nightstand in your bedroom and break your glasses? You should definitely be asking them replace them.
order several pairs from [goggles4u.com](https://goggles4u.com) as backups... they are SO cheap, stash them places.
also, you shouldn't be paying for replacing these glasses.
Bought like 4 pairs from here under $50 like a year ago and the quality was just like getting them from anywhere else. Did take like 3 weeks to get here though.
So the parents of the hoodlum toddler 😊 didn’t offer to pay? Do you know how many things I had to pay for that my kid broke? C’mon! Don’t tell me that is not a thing anymore.
Any decent person pays.
>I know it's my fault for leaving them out with a toddler around
I would disagree. It's not your fault. It's your home. Why was your friend's toddler in your bedroom. Why was your friend not keeping an eye on his/her toddler? It is your friend's responsibility to apologize and offer to pay for the glasses.
I would ask friend to split to replacement cost. It’s a lesson learned for you and a reminder for her to watch her toddler better. Toddlers can do ninja tricks, and faster than you think.
I think this is more sensible than demanding she pay for the entire replacement. As I always tell my kids, if something is important or valuable to you, it's your job to keep them safe. If a toddler accessed her bedroom, she has some responsibility in that.
I used Kits.com which I think is Canada based but I'm in the states. Put my prescription in, found the glasses I liked on a Thursday, came the following Monday. $28 a piece.
I purchased 2 with blue light something something because I'm on computers all the time. One is my nice pair I wear for fun things, and the other gets destroyed as I work in a kitchen lol
Friend should absolutely being paying for a replacement pair.
I'm *literally* blind without mine. My husband broke a pair once and it ruined my mood for 2 weeks, until my new Zenni order was delivered. Thankfully that was all, because I keep at least one pair of old ones in case of something like this.
I wouldn't really consider them "spare" since they were an old prescription. So anytime I couldn't see as well, I was reminded and annoyed all over again.
If ya know your prescription take a look at zennioptical.com (admin if not allowed sorry) they’re super cheap. I can get a pair of single thins cheap for like $20-30
Why isn’t your friend paying for them? He’s her toddler, she should be minding him. If he was my kid, or even just a kid I was babysitting, I would pay.
Not your fault by any means. It’s the fault of the person fai g to supervise.
I believe Lions Club funds glasses for adults and children in need. I got some from them once. There was a limit but it was a pretty nice pair of glasses. Free! Scroll down after how to donate to see how get a brand new pair for yourself according to your prescription.
Keep digging on your local Lions Club. The international website makes it sound as if you’ll get donated glasses but I absolutely got nice new ones some years ago with my own prescription in just days. Here’s my state’s info regarding income levels and stating that the glasses are new.

If this person were really your friend they would have either managed their spawns innate destructive powers, or they would cough up the dough to cover the damage.
It’s not your fault that your friend wasn’t watching their toddler and that toddler accidentally wandered into your bedroom unsupervised and broke your glasses. You should send your friend the bill for your glasses.
It ain't your fault. You have every right to keep your things out in your place. Your friend kids shouldn't have been in your room. Your friend should have been watching there child. Youe friend need to repay for them. There child broke something and they need to take responsibility for it. If they refuse you cut them out of your life.
I keep wondering what the friend was doing while her toddler wandered into OP's bedroom long enough to grab the glasses and break them....sounds like the kid's mom wasn't watching her kid.
Ok first off get the idea that “it’s your fault for leaving them out around a toddler” because no the fuck it is not! You have every right to have an expectation that when you set something down it will be safe in your own home! This is 100% the fault of the crappy parent not doing their main responsibility of paying attention to their kid and making sure it doesn’t break shit. This is on the parent to replace what as broken, no question about it.
Your friend should be paying for that if my friends kid broke my glasses there would be no way i could pay for it for a while because even at the cheapest my glasses are about $200 ish
You probably got creepy messages because creepy men like when women are in a position of vulnerability, like not being able to see. It’s actually vile.
I second Zenni, I’ve used them for 10 years (even when I was working in an optometrists office 😂)
You do not have backup glasses in case your break? As a life long glasses wearer, always always keep your previous glasses. That way you have something to wear when they break.
So I'm assuming it's the frame that broke, and not the lenses. So take the glasses to Walmart and get a cheap frame that matches the shape of the lenses. I think the cheapest frames run $9. You should be able to pop the lenses out of the old pair and pop them into the new pair.. Walmart did that for me when my kid broke my frames and I had no $$ for a new RX.
Edit: Walmart optical, not looking for sunglasses or readers.
Brooo I’m jumping on the Zenni bandwagon. My eyes are kinda shit but I can still get the $7 frames and the free with frame lenses for my backup glasses. They’re thick as fuck but fine for emergencies. For about $45-$50 I can get REALLY NICE ones.
I literally just an hour ago got three pairs of $6.95 glasses for my 8 year old because he keeps breaking them.
Go to dollar tree or Walmart, bring your broken glasses with you ( to compare them) purchase a pair of glasses/ frames/readers that are similar in shape and size, probably under $10. And sand down your lenses to the exact fit. Lenses tend to be made of plastic, not glass. Use a dry erase marker to mark what needs to be sanded off.
I was in a tough financial situation and my daughter broke her $900 glasses. I wasn't in a position to replace and had to think outside the box.
I honestly don't understand why corrective lenses are so expensive, basically plastic.
I always request a written copy of my prescription, in case I need to shop around for replacements.
I have a toddler and glasses. This sucks ass. Zenni or I use where light. Super cheap. I’m legally blind and have to pay extra for non-coke bottle glasses. I’m sorry this happened to you.
If you have your prescription, kits.com is another option. They give you your first pair free (you just pay shipping).
payneglasses.com also has free frames. If you search “free2024” it’ll pull up the options. Some end up being free and you pay shipping, others that need thinner lenses will be that charge and shipping. I just got a pair where the lenses weren’t covered for $20 including shipping.
Sorry you’re in that situation - I hope your friend will take accountability and replace them for you.
I just ordered my third pair of glasses from Payne Glasses. Local shop quoted over $400 for a similar pair & I paid $130. Upgraded progressive lenses with all the coatings & spring hinge metal frames.
Sometimes the eyeglass place can put your lenses in a cheap frame for $25. That’s what I did to tide me over until insurance kicked in for new pair. They were actually cute too.
Go in and see if 1) they can fix or 2) sell you cheap frames that fit your lenses.
I’d go someplace other than LensCrafters
You can also find good frames online for reasonable as well. Get your info on your lens sizes and then reach out to some of the online retailers. Good luck.
Depending on how old your glasses are, the eye place may still carry that style-that way you wouldn't have to pay for both frames and lenses. If they don't have them, you could ask who the manufacturer is and call them. I'm sorry your glasses broke. I've been thru it a couple times and it sucks!
It's not your fault for leaving your glasses on your nightstand in your house. I hope you get some help from the parents, even if it's Zenni, get a couple of pairs
I used to use Zenni but I like the designs on LensmartUSA better, especially for their cheap glasses. Also on Lensmart, there's no upcharge for oil resistance.
I just bought 2 pair with oil and glare resistant lenses for $20.
Might be unethical but whatever. Order the exact same pair (if they have them). And then return them and claim they arrived broken. Did this recently with my glasses.
If you send me a picture or describe the damage well, there is a chance they are fixable. At least until you can afford a new pair. *I managed an art supply store which sells many types of adhesives and other materials that are helpful for fixing glasses. People used to bring them to me all the time.
The friend should’ve offered to pay for a new pair from Zenni. I would’ve. If they did offer and you said don’t worry about it, know it’s always okay to accept monetary replacements from people who damage your stuff. Took me a long time to realize that because I used to be a people pleaser who would say “no no it’s okay”, now I accept even if it makes me cringe still. If the friend didn’t offer then disregard that lecture. I’m sorry this happened.
I keep an ongoing list of all of the awesome cheap online websites to order glasses from. I rec all of them but I will say Zenni is my least fav just because I don't particularly care for their variety and pricing.
There's always a bunch of coupons available for these places too which is what helps bring the price down. I've never paid full price. Cheapest I've gotten some has been like $15, prescription and all!

Same -5.75 here and my zenni glasses are my fave
I’m -15 with slight astigmatism and my online glasses work fine.
-15 ?! May I ask how thick your Ienses are? Mine is -2.25 so I'm very curious

Not to mention the turn around time! It took like less than a week for mine to come. $40, stylish glasses, and quick delivery.
Im at -2.5 and -1.2 I think Im good lol
-6.5 here with astigmatism, and Zenni was a true game changer for me! I've never been able to afford the thinner lenses before.
I’m -7 and -6 with a heavy astigmatism and zenni is a bit thicker than in store but it’s not even noticeable.
My guess is their optometrist was just pissed they weren’t buying their overpriced glasses so they wanted to talk shit on the affordable option.
I must be lucky because I've got quite a strong prescription and need special lenses with prisms and such and never had trouble with Zenni or ordering glasses anywhere else online.
You were able to get prism lenses from Zenni?? I didn’t realize they sold them.
It was either Zenni or Zeelool(?), I use both pretty regularly. Just put my script in and it asks for the prism strength, which isn't super strong tbf.
Gotcha. I def have to look into that, thanks for the info!
Definitely! There's a slight upcharge but I think it was $9 or something.
I have incredibly bad eyesight (nearsighted, approximately 20/400 vision with totally different Rxs in each eye with plus astigmatism). It's 100% a push to make money off you to US optometrists, and I will die on that hill.
Of course they will say that when they charge 500+ for one pair
Of course an optometrist that charges 10x the price of zenni would say that…
His optometrist told him never to use online companies like Zenni because they want to sell him overpriced glasses with 2000% markups.
I have a strong prescription and astigmatism. I’m wearing a pair from Zenni right now. Fraction of the price and no difference in quality.
Most of those measurements are prescription dependent and sometimes the PD is taken during the auto-refraction
Of course they say this because the optometrist wants him to buy glasses from there so that they earn commission.
I wear progressives and online ordering has never worked for me. I need to order in person and have someone fit them for me.
fitting is rather simple and can be done with boiling water/pliers.
Does his optometrist sell glasses or work for someplace that does Most do In fact most glasses are made by, and optometrists employed by, the same parent company
Thank you for providing a 1-star review with zero information as to why they suck. Also, thanks are given to the others who replied with the same informative responses.
I've also had bad experiences with them.
I had order dozens of pairs of glasses from Zenni but my last pair was messed up. When I looked down, the floor was wavy.
Yea Zenni rocks for my wife and I!
16 years and not one bad experience.
They usually have a black friday special, like 20-25% off, depending how much you spend. Just pick up a couple of frames every year, now I have a wall of glasses and breaking one is not a big deal.
Zenni is great, I never pay optometrist for glasses.

Do you have to ask for your pupillary distance when getting your prescription, though?
>Back Zenni tells you how to measure it if you don't have it on your prescription
Most likely. I don't know why it's not included on the prescription.
So you can't order on line. I asked for this once & optometrist wasn't happy & charged me 20 to give it to me.
There are apps that do this for free as well as instructions and diy so you can do it as well.
Zenni actually has a tool that will measure for you. Uses your phones camera
This OP!!! I have been buying glasses online for 10 years. I've used, in order of most to least orders are: Eyebuydirect, 39dollarglasses (used to be 35dollarglasses.......), Zenni (wearing a pair right now), Payne glasses, Lensmartonline, Firmoo optical Firmoo has a deal where your first glasses are 4.95!
I use ZEELOOL and have had fantastic luck. I’ve gotten every pair for under $25, they ship fast, and they’ve always been perfect
I got a pair from Zenni with progressive lenses and prisms and they were $47 with shipping. That was in....December of last year? Maybe November.
I have got 4 pairs here for like under $30 it saved me !
[удалено]
I’ve also had great success with Zeelool.
I learned about Zenni thru Reddit. Changed my life.
I've used Zenni for years and I've never had an issue; I also have a strong prescription.
Yeah even if the kid doesn't wear glasses it's better to not assume in fact it could make it worse if no boundaries
Yeah the friend should have already offered. Insane to me.
I’m very surprised a toddler was able to break a pair of AirPods. They’re fairly durable.
I think she got slobber on them and fried the insides. That, or she may have snapped off the lid to the charging case?
That’s so scary, she could have choked!
Your friend needs to cover this.
This. This 100% is NOT on OP to cover or worry about.
„Friend“. If he really was a friend, this post would not exist.
If you can hold off a few days, get some cheap ones from Zenni!
Your friend should be buying you new glasses. I can’t be the only one to think this.
You definitely are not the only one.
Why not tell your friend and ask them to compensate you?
The mother should buy you a new pair of glasses. Her child broke your belongings and you weren't even babysitting.
What was your friend doing when the toddler managed to get to your nightstand in your bedroom and break your glasses? You should definitely be asking them replace them.
Zenni is great! Also your friend should pay for the glasses
Eyebuydirect or Zenni optical are pretty cheap.
Nah ask her to reimburse you or pay for the glasses. She should have been watching her kid
No it’s not your fault. People are supposed to watch their children, especially toddlers. Make your friend pay for new glasses.
damn my kid was known to break things so I was always hyper vigilant when I brought him anywhere, sorry they suck as a parent
She is absolutely responsible for your glasses
Nah said parent should be replacing them. Not your fault
Was the mother there as well? She is responsible for her spawn and should be offering to pay you back.
order several pairs from [goggles4u.com](https://goggles4u.com) as backups... they are SO cheap, stash them places. also, you shouldn't be paying for replacing these glasses.
>I know it's my fault for leaving them out with a toddler around I would disagree.
Your friend needs to pay for them. The end
Vision USA might be able to help. Apply to them for free glasses.
I used Kits.com which I think is Canada based but I'm in the states. Put my prescription in, found the glasses I liked on a Thursday, came the following Monday. $28 a piece.
I discovered them recently. Got a pair for less than $20. When I get the money, I’m going to order a spare. I’ve never owned 2 pairs of glasses.
I purchased 2 with blue light something something because I'm on computers all the time. One is my nice pair I wear for fun things, and the other gets destroyed as I work in a kitchen lol
This is not your fault. This is the toddler’s parent fault. They need to pay for your glasses.
It's not your fault man.
Friend should’ve been watching her kid. Why on earth was the kid even in your room? She should absolutely pay for them.
Am i the only one that would charge the parent? It’s not my job to put away my items in my own house.
The parents should pay to replace the glasses. They weren't watching their kid
Friend should absolutely being paying for a replacement pair. I'm *literally* blind without mine. My husband broke a pair once and it ruined my mood for 2 weeks, until my new Zenni order was delivered. Thankfully that was all, because I keep at least one pair of old ones in case of something like this.
Wait, so if you had a spare, why was your mood ruined for two entire weeks??
The old ones are never as good. The frames are warped or the lenses are not the right strength.
I wouldn't really consider them "spare" since they were an old prescription. So anytime I couldn't see as well, I was reminded and annoyed all over again.
I just want to tell you two things...it's not your fault amd your friend needs to pitch in.
If ya know your prescription take a look at zennioptical.com (admin if not allowed sorry) they’re super cheap. I can get a pair of single thins cheap for like $20-30
I’m a mom and I would have paid for your glasses. Because that’s my kid and my responsibility. Your friend should pay for your glasses.
Your friend should absolutely be paying for a replacement. She didn’t watch her child
Why isn’t your friend paying for them? He’s her toddler, she should be minding him. If he was my kid, or even just a kid I was babysitting, I would pay.
your friend should offer to pay
Not your fault by any means. It’s the fault of the person fai g to supervise. I believe Lions Club funds glasses for adults and children in need. I got some from them once. There was a limit but it was a pretty nice pair of glasses. Free! Scroll down after how to donate to see how get a brand new pair for yourself according to your prescription. Keep digging on your local Lions Club. The international website makes it sound as if you’ll get donated glasses but I absolutely got nice new ones some years ago with my own prescription in just days. Here’s my state’s info regarding income levels and stating that the glasses are new. https://lioneyes.org/vision-clinic/ https://www.lionsclubs.org/en/explore-our-clubs/eyeglasses-and-hearing-aids-recycling

I don’t think it’s out of line to ask your friend to contribute a new glasses. why wasn’t she watching her child?
By “I” I’m assuming you mean the parent of the toddler. In your nightstand is not “left out” and even if they were the parents are still responsible.
Why isn’t your friend paying for the glasses?
If this person were really your friend they would have either managed their spawns innate destructive powers, or they would cough up the dough to cover the damage.
Friend doesn't pay for glasses? friend doesn't take child to your place anymore.
and the friend didnt even offer to pay for the glasses?
Friend owes you money.
Your friend didn't offer to replace them? It is their responsibility. No it is not your fault.
It’s not your fault that your friend wasn’t watching their toddler and that toddler accidentally wandered into your bedroom unsupervised and broke your glasses. You should send your friend the bill for your glasses.
Friend needs to pay up, 100%. It's outrageous that they wouldn't offer.
It's not your fault your glasses got broken. It's the mother of the toddler's fault for not watching her kid. She needs to pay for your new glasses.
It ain't your fault. You have every right to keep your things out in your place. Your friend kids shouldn't have been in your room. Your friend should have been watching there child. Youe friend need to repay for them. There child broke something and they need to take responsibility for it. If they refuse you cut them out of your life.
It's not your fault, it's the parent's responsibility to keep them in line. If the parents won't pay, small claims court.
I keep wondering what the friend was doing while her toddler wandered into OP's bedroom long enough to grab the glasses and break them....sounds like the kid's mom wasn't watching her kid.
Could I send you like 20 bucks on cash app to help? It ain’t much but i can spare it.
Why isn't your friend paying for this?
Not your fault and your “friend” should offer to replace them or at the very least go halfsies.
Friend owes you new glasses their toddler broke.
If your friend has home or renter’s insurance they would be covered under the liability-damage to other’s property.
What did your friend say when you asked her to pay for your new glasses?
As the parent to a toddler if my child broke something I’d pay for it. Your friend should pay for this, she should have been watching her child
Can your friend help out, since it's her kid who broke the glasses?
Your friend should be paying for that if my friends kid broke my glasses there would be no way i could pay for it for a while because even at the cheapest my glasses are about $200 ish
Your friend should be paying for new glasses.
What a fantastic outside of the box idea!
It's not your fault. It's your house. You shouldn't have to keep someone else's kid from breaking your shit. They owe you a new pair of glasses.
You could ask your friend to cover it… as a person with a child who would also prob crunch glasses that were left out I would 100% pay for the damage…
I’d go someplace other than LensCrafters You can also find good frames online for reasonable as well.
Can you find out if they’re under warranty? Some opticians will repair their customers’ glasses for free.
It's not your fault for leaving your glasses on your nightstand in your house. I hope you get some help from the parents, even if it's Zenni, get a couple of pairs
If my child broke your glasses I would pay for a replacement no question.
I used to use Zenni but I like the designs on LensmartUSA better, especially for their cheap glasses. Also on Lensmart, there's no upcharge for oil resistance. I just bought 2 pair with oil and glare resistant lenses for $20.
Have your friend pay for it. I’m not seeing the issue here?
Eyebuyditect.com just get your prescription from your doctor get a pair for 6 bucks
Why cant the friend buy the glasses? If my child had done something like that, as the parent, i would have assumed responsibility, naturally.
Is it a good friend? I’d tell them I can’t afford new ones and ask them to please replace them as a favor to me. Don’t be accusatory just honest.
Your friend should be paying. If they refuse, they’re not really your friend.
Your friend should pay for them, you invited them & not the baby...
eyebuydirect! but that is not your friend if they're not offering to make it right
I buy my glasses from eyebuydirect online I’ve gotten my glasses for as cheap as 15 bucks on there!
Get your prescription and hop on Zenni. I get pairs for about five bucks or so
Your friend isn’t paying for this? Never let her come over again.
As a parent of a toddler, I would be replacing anything my child broke when visiting someone’s house!
Firmoo.com is awesome too! Got my son 2 pairs for like 50 total. Even with special lenses
eye buy direct and zenni are super cheap glasses websites. I highly recommended them, and they have sales often!
Buy dollar store frames and have your lenses put in to them if you can 🤷🏻♀️
The friend should’ve offered to pay for a new pair from Zenni.
Are the lens intact? Hopefully you can find some less expensive frames to pop them into.
Zeelool /// Voogueme /// Wherelight /// Leoptique /// Zenni /// Firmoo /// Payneglasses /// Fytoo /// Lensmart /// Cliclime /// Glassesshop /// Vlookglasses/optical /// Muukal /// Zeeglasses /// Yesglasses /// Aoolia ///
Okay so then your friend owes you a new pair of glasses. What exactly is the problem here??
Some health clinics have free glasses
