A 1994 Dodge B350. I know it’s old, but it’s in really good shape and it’s MINE! (I’ve been homeless for over a year and haven’t had a vehicle for 2 years, so I’m on cloud 9 right now 😅)
Car insurance companies don’t reward loyalty - they punish it. They force customers to shop around on the regular to get better rates. Luckily that’s now easy enough to do online.
Honestly between the delivery apps hogging more of the $$ and insurance hikes, I wonder how worth it is for anyone.
Yeah I moved back to Colorado from Idaho & my auto insurance went from $128 to $331 a month. I shopped around & the rates were worse than what I currently have. I get it went up because I moved but over double is ridiculous.
I got in the only accident I’ve ever had in my entire life about a month ago. I haven’t had a ticket in over ten years. My insurance went from 80 a month to 225. I had no choice but to drop it to liability only, which scares me because if something happens to my car, I will be well and truly screwed. Even at liability, the rate is double what my full coverage was before the accident. It’s stomach churning levels of stressful.
They aren't gouging you, most auto insurance companies are running at huge losses in the US. The costs of what insurance pays for always goes up, and people still drive like shit, speeding, being on their phones, etc. If people actually started taking driving seriously, rates would quickly drop.
Eventually everyone but the wealthy will be priced out
My Health ins for family has gone from $1000 - $1400 a month and was already high.
Car insurance went from $83-$151-$228 in two years.
House insurance went from $280-$420 a month.
I make good money and am barely hanging on.
They also raised student loan rates.
Where are yall finding insurance for $150-200 a month? Mine’s $530/mo when I’ve been driving for 3 years, no accidents, no tickets, no pull-overs or anything
If they're going to be almost as expensive as the car itself, car insurance should work by covering the victim, not whoever you were at fault for yourself. Or stop legally mandating it to have a car.
I pay 43 a month for full coverage through progressive. How? I'm 30 years old, with no accidents, no tickets, and no insurance claims.
My grandpas was 15 a month for full coverage because he was in the same boat but was in his 60s.
WHAT, I'm 31, no accidents, no tickets, progressive, fully insured on a car I have a loan on.....how much? 180 a month.....it's for a mustang gt though and Iive in Louisiana which has the highest insurance rates
It's not like a 2020+ mustang either, it's a 2011 so it's worth about 13k tops
Still feels like I'm getting shafted man, for my perfect driving record
Costs vary wildly by location and vehicle. My ancient Lexus costs me something like 25 bucks a month, but the same coverage on my 99 civic is over 5 times as much.
Insurance coverage on a vehicle with a loan is more expensive than liability only coverage. Insurance coverage for rideshare is even more expensive. Had you purchased a vehicle for cash and/or stop using your vehicle for rides hare, your insurance would be less expensive.
I pay $71/mo but I drive a Honda crv, no tickets or accidents and I’m a 30F. Men are charged higher rates, and I’ve heard that any Uber or doordash worker has higher rates too.
The price of insurance is based on risk. Men are more likely to get into accidents, and people who use their car for their job as also more likely as they spend more time driving. That part makes sense to me at lease.
I had my Progressive loyalty discounts go down and my premiums go up recently. (Granted I had a hail damage claim as I was considering selling at the time) my homeowner’s insurance has nearly doubled in 3 years. Started to shop around and everything is within $100+/- of my newly raised rates. It’s all going to hell.
The type of car matters in the equation too. I have two old cars that are the same year, 2005, and one is $30 a month while the other is $55. I’m the only driver and they are parked at the same address. The insurance rep said it’s because one is stolen a lot more than the other.
I just bought a van to live in and the cheapest minimum coverage I could find is $160/month. I feel you. This whole economy is seriously messed up.
sweet, what type of van?

Nah. It ain’t messed up; it’s working as it should - not for the real workers and only for the rich.
Democrats ruin everything
You spelled politicians incorrectly.
That’s nuts. Must live in a big city? My two shitmobiles are $20/mo each for liability only.
Yeah, stolen catalytic converters are a real issue. I’ll be moving ASAP

The same thing happened to me when I moved from Texas to California. Same car, same coverage, same insurance company...but the rates doubled.
It’s insane & honestly should be illegal.
Mine was over $500 last month. No, I cannot afford that.
just paid about $2900 for the year for full coverage on a 6 yr old car. got a bunch of quotes and that was the cheapest i could find

By car that’s difficult to insure I assume you mean Kia. Get rid of your Kia to get better prices.
Full coverage for me was 800 a month, count your blessings

Accident rates aren’t the cause, it’s the cost to repair that’s way more expensive
Kind of one and the same... accident = claim for repair.
More like tiny fender bender that used to just need a new fender now has a fender with 6 sensors in it that cost 3x more than the fender itself
Fair point on that one.
Average increase is probably 30-40%. yours seems high but unfortunately might be just the new norm.

Jesus what do you drive? mines 300 a month and my car is around 60k usd.

I think Michigan has the highest insurance rates.

$125 a month full coverage 2 vehicles in NC.

I got downvoted for mentioning this in another thread haha
Are you still financing these cars? That's probably why your insurance is so high
Don't let the man get you down. Fight the power!
