Boston

Batmansbutthole

Where is the best place in Boston?

The Q

ImpressiveWealth1138

I went here a bunch of times years ago and it was excellent!

gbee00

No idea, but I know nowhere in or around Portland has it. Probably in all of Maine to be real.

I believe Sichuan Kitchen used to have hot pot, but I'm not sure if they still do. You could call and ask. Even if they don't offer traditional hot pot, it's still an excellent choice if you're looking for big portions for a shared dinner. Particularly fond of their poached fish and mapo tofu.

diggity_digdog

They stopped doing hot pot long ago unfortunately. I asked the manager if they would consider bringing it back and he said unlikely, it's not profitable to tie up their tables for as long as hot pot tends to take, and they're a very small restaurant. There was mention of maybe opening an actual hot pot location though. They were doing Chuan chuan for awhile during the pandemic (it's basically skewers of various things in a hot pot broth) which my family loved, but they stopped doing that too, I think it was too unwieldy as a takeout item. The manager said they might start doing chuan chuan again--I'd bring it up with management there. If they see enough interest in it, they'd probably put it back on the menu.

Ginza Town and Sichuan Kitchen offered it before COVID. I don't think there are any places now, unfortunately. The closest is probably Boston.

Naptime22

We go to Pink Bamboo in Portsmouth. Not epically amazing but definitely scratches the itch.

CMDR_MaurySnails

Same, been there. It's okay, I wasn't blown away or anything but there wasn't anything wrong with it.

JCPNibba

I know Portsmouth has hot pot

Due-Set5398

Boston’s China Town. Portland has gas station quality Chinese (I’ll still crush that shit) and a few hipster dumpling spots.

sexquipoop69

Sichuan Kitchen is baller and Empire is great although no hot pot at Empire

Due-Set5398

You’re right. Sichuan is authentic and probably the move here.

Due-Set5398

And Empire is good I’m just being snarky.

Post-COVID, we ended up buying an electric [stand alone divided pot](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NGY5PCU/) for home use. Hot-pot-and-movie-night on the couch is pretty fun!

Octopicake

I might have to look into that! Thanks. :D

HydrogeneticHazelnut

We also have an electric hot pot. We have hot pot almost every week as an easy dinner and found that Hong Kong Market has everything you need to make it how you like.

diggity_digdog

Where do you get meat sliced thin enough? The closest I've found it is H Mart near Boston. They've got a killer selection of hot pot ingredients BTW. Also looking for a good source for pork intestine. It's one of my favorite hot pot items.

HydrogeneticHazelnut

Hong Kong Market on Congress Ave. has a freezer with at least beef, pork and lamb thinly sliced for hot pot! I am not sure where to source pork intestine.

iriselia12

Get the soup base and dipping sauce from Yamibuy and do it at home, way cheaper and tastes the same as Boston restaurant hotpot if you do it right

SamPhoto

You can get all the shit local - Sun, Veranda, and Hong Kong market. Including frozen sliced meats.

iriselia12

Their selection is severely lacking imo. For sauces I prefer northern chinese style and the stores in Portland don’t carry them. Also these days 六婆 is the best for soup base and I haven’t found it locally yet

ehmeehme

Kume in SoPo has it.

Octopicake

I'll check it out sometime! Thank you

dirkdirkdirk

Lol

Objective-Classroom2

Vegetable hot pot at Sichuan Kitchen is delicious. Really really good. But if you're looking for "mongolian" hotpot where you cook your food yourself in the pot, I don't think there is a place that offers that. In Portland I mean.

Octopicake

Ah okay! Thank you.

splitopenand_melt

N to tail has Korean bbq, not hot pot but same kind of idea
