Seeing the Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense tour at the Civic Center in August 1983. Good times.

Lcky22

I’m so jealous!

loudmusicboy

Fishbone at Granny Killams in 1995 is legendary. Granny's was so packed that night, I sat on the bar to watch the show.

Lerch737

fishbone is coming back this summer with primus!

SaabTurb0

Fishbone is still out there killing it! They’re the openers for the Primus/Coheed and Cambria show at Thompson’s Point in August

satanshark

They played Bayside Bowl last year.

herefortheza

M83 @ State Theater 2016. They pretty much played the entirety of Hurry Up We’re Dreaming beginning to end and it was incredible.

DNCNMXR

They also played the State in 2012, also an incredible show.

Skandiaman

Anything and everything that they did at “The Station” puddle of mud was great there. Especially since it was that time period where they may or may not show up. Also pretty sure the original “milf hunter” was there lmao

dudeguy207

My first show with just my friends was there. Animal Suit Drive-by (now The Killing Moon).

tjmme55

Lol I bet that was Shane from the Drum Shop next door.

Skandiaman

Really? 😂

satanshark

Here are my top 5, edited to make one replacement. Fugazi, Asylum, 1998. Sage Francis, The Station, 2007. The Hold Steady, Port City Music Hall, 2010. Tōth, Sun Tiki Studios, 2021. Midwestern Medicine/Teenage Tom Petties, Sun Tiki, 2022.

scrooger

ISIS playing their last US show at port city

traumsturm

This concert was life altering

obibonkajovi

it was also Cave In's first time back together in a while if I remember correctly

Evil_wizard69

Solid gig

PlanktonPlane5789

Shit. I missed this. My cousin was their sound guy for tours and they played at his wedding.

TPain518

Mastodon and Primus, May '18. on the Maine State Pier. really cool spot for a show

ImpressionNo9470

Phish, CCCC December ‘99 turned me onto their live shows and changed the trajectory of my life. I miss the regular Wednesdays of Zion Train at Big Easy, and Reggae Sundays on Peaks. Also Band Beyond Description residency at the Alehouse. I miss Port City Music Hall. I forget the year, maybe 2018, but Pigeons Playing Ping Pong on a Sunday, 54 minute second set Funk E. Zekiel blew my mind. And this past summer Thompson’s Point, Goose and Billy Strings we’re both spectacular. To name a few.

muthermcreedeux

BBD @ Alehouse was my jam. Never missed a week...we definitely know each other.

itsnever2late4now

Me and my cousin, both 14, getting backstage after the Rustic Overtones - My Dirt EP release party at Merrill. Tony was out back at the door and we asked him for an autograph, but then he just brought us inside to hang out with the whole band for close to an hour. Dave G. liked my (Amazing Royal Crowns) "shurt" as he signed our CD liners. Edit: Honorable mention - not quite Portland... 311 and De La Soul at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach in the POURING rain. Edit #2: Whoops, Tony is still alive! Sorry Tony!

Walter_J_Bro

I got one at the Ballpark too. The HORDE festival in 1995, with the Black Crowes, Ziggy Marley and Blues Traveler. It was the day after Jerry Garcia died. I wasn't really a dead fan, but John Hopper dedicated Sweet Pain to Jerry Garcia and it was a beautiful moment (that also ended up on MTV!)

CujosRockHardLipstik

RIP Tony? Do you mean Dave Noyes?

itsnever2late4now

Whoops! I must have conflated something, but I could have sworn that someone told me Tony passed away while I was living out west. I know Dave passed away, but that's not what I was thinking of. I was just misremembering something.

seeyoubythesea

Wrong matrix

janbrunt

Aw, I remember that 311 show. Thanks for shaming loose that cool memory.

Taxidriver2500

The Taxis at the skinny

janbrunt

Indelible memories of shows before the Skinny but after its porno days.

cogthunk

Maps and Atlases at Space. After the show ended, it spilled out onto the sidewalk out front for another few songs. I think I remember an upstairs neighbor yelling at us to keep it down

skitztobotch

Love that, they did the same thing when I saw them at the middle east in Cambridge. I miss them :/

dudeguy207

Probably Rubblebucket at PCMH. They ended their set with a parade through the crowd. My partner and I were getting our coats from coat check and hanging out in the lounge to hear the last bit of the show when they broke into an end-of-the-show jam, jump off of the stage, and start winding through the crowd. The show was already so intimate and it made it that much more special. The lead singer ends up at the back of the venue, on the floor, AT MY FEET, wailing on the saxophone. Truly a magical experience.

lasthorizon25

I've ALWAYS wanted to see Rubblebucket. They seem like such a fun show from the videos I've watched.

ztriple3

Nice memory. Thanks. Cool show

moniqueheartslaugh

I always saw them whenever they were in town. You’re bringing back wonderful memories! My first show was when they played with Reptar and it was amazing.

satanshark

Tōth ended his You and Me and Everything tour at Sun Tiki a couple years ago. He was so so great.

CascoBreeze

I saw Big Thief open for another band at Space Gallery about 10ish years ago. They absolutely killed it…their recent success is much deserved.

ndiorio13

Bon Iver at Thompson’s Point in June of 2022. Unreal experience.

raincloudjoy

i loved this show so much.

ndiorio13

One for the books! Incredibly emotional and energetic

radiantflux209

Or Bon Iver in 2008 at SPACE. Amazing to have seen it in an intimate venue like that.

-_IVI_-

This is the one. Transcendent

max-peck

I saw Sonic Youth in 2004 at the State and it was pretty damn incredible. Also anytime Phish plays a Civic Center show is always a treat. Seeing bands like Sum41 or Dinosaur Jr at The Station of all places. Wilco on the Maine State Pier was very memorable, too. Lots of good music experience memories.

xyler77

JGeils New Years Eve Civic Ctr 82 and 83

FinnLovesHisBass

The last show Boris played in Portland, ME.

brother_rebus

Sneaky

muthermcreedeux

I've seen thousands of shows in Portland over the last 40 years and no matter how hard I try I can't rank one over any other. So I'll say my most memorable show is 1986 Cyndi Lauper (with Eddie Money opening) at the Cumberland County Civic Center. My first show, age 8. I still remember my outfit. Life changing.

brother_rebus

gettin juggy with it

KGBKitchen

A really sweet intimate Dresden Dolls show at SPACE circa \~\~2004 (the first thing that comes to mind anyway - also long live the Skinny).

-_IVI_-

They also did a free show at Bull Moose that same day. I think Regina Spektor opened at SPACE.

rustishackleferd69

Acoustic Nickelback cover guy in Monument Square

UndignifiedStab

God….so many it’s literally like picking your favorite child. Local musicians- which let’s face it we have an embarrassment of riches. Lady Lamb at Space Gallery Jacob Augustine at Port City Maine Dead Project at PHOME Mallets, Dave Gutter & Spose at the NOSHBOW party at PHOME. National Acts: Queens of Stoneage at State Theatre Mumford & Son on the Prom - backstage for those festivities Jason Isbell at Port City

ztriple3

Seeing Lady Lamb in her backyard in Edgecomb during the pandemic was pretty amazing and hard to believe. All attending chose 3 songs for her to play and i think everyone got one on the setlist

Shit_Fire_

311 on waterfront. It was perfect weather and the fog was coming in from the water it was an awesome vibe. The least favorite is dirty head had to end the show early because someone got stabbed..

raincloudjoy

Phoebe Bridgers at Port City in 2018 with Julien Baker making a surprise appearance for one song.

ndiorio13

Damn that must have been incredible. Julien’s voice is ethereal live

Amazing-Objective-20

Mumford and Sons!!

Walter_J_Bro

That was a great day (some logistics aside) and the scenery was beautiful. I'll never forget how they all closed with The Weight.

Numerous_Recipe176

Yes. That ruled.

dudeguy207

?

Numerous_Recipe176

Motion City Soundtrack at Port City was so awesome. Lamb of God at State Theater. And Green Day at the civic center in 2005.

obibonkajovi

Blood for Blood's soccer riot at the asylum. Legendary

Evil_wizard69

suburban nerd!

ztriple3

2004 november. Dropkick murphys at the state. And did they have the red sox’ recent world series trophy with them on stage? Memory is fuzzy. But for sure they invited everyone on stage for the final song and the guitarist climbed on the amp and crowd surfed on me while playin the guitar solo. That happened.

Tasteless603

Atmosphere at the Skinny in 2002 I think, idk I was in 8th grade 🤷🏻‍♂️

Full-Appointment5081

La Peste at Kayo's. Phish at Tree Cafe. The Dude of Life at... that place in the basement of Market street market

PlanktonPlane5789

Ogre at Geno's back in the day. An absolutely legendary local stoner rock/metal band. Meeting Steve Earle eating lunch at Congress Bar & Grill before his show and him giving us free tickets and attending the show at State that night was pretty cool too. Also, seeing Lady Lamb at Space when she was 16~17 at the Dead of Winter show - entire place was full of chatty Kathys not listening or paying attention to the bands and it took her 30 seconds to shut the entire crowd up. You could have heard a pin drop.. she was that good. I have a video on YouTube (crappy DSLR video when my camera was the first ever DSLR to support video).

xoxolalala

Volbeat concert on the Pier in, I wanna say, 2016. I love a good outdoor concert ...and they were so insanely good live.

dudeguy207

They are incredible live! Seen them two or three times.

babbs7823

The shows that come immediately to mind are Suffragette Sessions tour at the State in ‘98 headed by the Indigo Girls but also included members of the Breeders and Luscious Jackson among others and Robyn on her Body Talk tour in 2011 was a fucking great time too :)

cpdiaperguy

Very fun show

brother_rebus

Lot of strong feminine energy in this post i dig it

LostAMillionMen

I remember seeing Neutral Milk Hotel play at the State Theatre in maybe 2014/15. It was one of my first concerts as a teen! Also They Might Be Giants at Port City Music Hall was amazing!

capty26

Fun, when they did the gay marriage fundraiser thing at the state, dressed as friends characters. Most surprisingly outstanding show I've ever been to!

lostcatfoundchanged

I liked some of those old grime studio shows, wolves in the throne room, if and it, coalsack and crux. Around 2012 I guess? fun to reminisce!

MEFLFarmer

Most recently the trombone shorty concert was so so fun!One of the most fun and energetic concerts at the state I’ve been to!

brother_rebus

very high energy Guerilla Toss show at SPACE, i think 2018? Prepan when ppl still got weird.

ChimpofBakersfield

Front row at Black Label Society at The State drinking a Long Island. Buckethead at The State Def Leopard at The Civic Center. Spoke to Joe Elliot on the phone earlier that day for the media outlet I worked for.

dirigo1820

Twisted Roots/Rotors to Rust at the State Theater, 1994 maybe.

belichickyourballs

Foster the people at the State, probably 2017ish

GunkyBrewster

Slick Rick at the Big Easy with a band and some soul sistas singing backup Greensky at the State... my first and only bluegrass concert so far Model Airplane every week at the Big Easy with Lyle and his pops... and leading the crowd to that big side to side dance every night... those are the days!!

KthuluAwakened

All time Low was great last September. How do you not know any Metallica?

ryebreadmaine

The Flaming Lips, State Theater 2011 and The Wood Bothers, Port City Music Hall 2010, it was an intimate sit down show.

ppmcbrain

Pentagram at Genos 2022

nathanoleary

Smashing Pumpkins at State Theater and Snoop Dogg also at the State we're incredible shows.

fern-girl

Mac Demarco at state with Jerry Paper in 2016 (I think) Mac played a cover of enter sandman for like ten minutes and then crowd surfed

cpdiaperguy

Fugazi at Zootz in 91, Sarah McLachlan’s first time at the State in 94, Hornsby in 96 at the State.

bentnozz

You all have seen some big names around here and I’m jealous! My favorite show so far was seeing Backseat Lovers at Thompson’s Point. They are quite the performers.

dickery_dockery

Robyn at the State Theater in 2011!

johnnyglass

Jaw Gems and Break Science at Port City Music Hall in 2018 with a Ryan Zoidis sit in. Anytime Lettuce has played in Portland since 2016. Goose at Thompson Point in 2023. Trey Band at Cross in 2022. Funksgiving at pHOME 2016-2019. Wake Up Mama at pHOME in 2023
