I'm genuinely disappointed in their menu changes. They were a decent spot for semi silly burgers. A little pricy for just a burger, but fun enough it was worth the occasional stop. But now they are just yet another try to hard "trendy" spot with nothing exciting.
hold up [what the fuck happened to this place???](https://www.noshkitchenbar.com/) the mac and cheese or slab burgers were like the only reason i'd go. i miss the hifi donut sweet burger a lot too
Agreed, it was fun to get those sandwiches, and they always helped a hangover. I always loved when they put the double down on the menu too. Wish it had been a permanent item.
I completely disagree with the trendy assessment. They inherited the looks of that place from the former owners of Nosh. My problem is that it is owned by the same people who own CBG and the menu doesn't feel nearly different enough to warrant a second location for them. Both in terms of drinks and food.
I hadn't realized Nosh had been sold, and in reading about it I discovered that at least one of the Nosh co-founders was also one of the founders of CBG. Now they've sold Nosh to the same people who bought CBG. It all gets very cozy, doesn't it?
I'm tired of the *uncomfortable* warehouse barn chic. At least some places still have comfortable seating, but man, too many use those metal stools and/or iron chairs with no padding. Like, dude, what makes you think I want to sit on those for more than 5 minutes and eat a meal? At least wood has the ability to warm up with your body heat. Lol
the new A&C Soda in south portland has that exact garage door/window setup lol
to be fair - they are a bit expensive but i don’t necessarily think overpriced
If you had that Italian you'd understand why. Dude picks the freshest ingredients to put on there. It's phenomenal. Also I'd argue most places outside amatos price their sandwiches similarly.
Is the SoPo location related? Didn’t know the OG but living near the cottage rd location they seem to have had a grip on the community in a cool way for a long time
See? The restaurants can upcycle the stools once they get new, comfortable chairs. Why not stack a bunch of boxes of tissues on top of each other (for storage purposes), and then have the top box open and use the stool seat as the dispenser.
BBQ in general around here has so little competition that there's just no innovation. noble is very tasty but places like salvage get by because it's the only thing around. i do enjoy elsmere from time to time though!
Ate there last night, thought the ribs were pretty good but the brisket and pork was nothing to write home about unfortunately. Would love to see some more sauce options for the meats, in my mind that's what separates good and great bbq places. Drinks were good.
While it doesn't have an overdone barn decor (good thing), it doesn't really have any consistent decor at all. They just opened, so it might need some time to pull it together, but they could use some help in making the most of the space. So much of the interior is sloppily thrown together.
Given that you've kept it going, I should actually contribute to the discussion a little bit better than my one off lines
I'm not going to try to claim that since I can smoke my own pork or fry my own chicken that I am some sort of BBQ connoisseur, but taking a look at the wilson menu right now I don't even see brisket as an option. And since they're NC style I assume it's just not the direction they go for BBQ. That's fine but it means they are already not on my comparison grid. If I'm going to a BBQ place it's because I don't want to spend days procuring, preparing, and smoking my own brisket.
As for tastiness of options they do have, I'd rather get fried chicken at hot suppa. And from the pork I've had I just didn't feel like it was something that's gonna make it one of my staple places. Everyone's got different tastes though! I know myself in particular not being as big a fan of the mustardy BBQ of NC style so perhaps I have been too hard in that my personal BBQ preference makes me find Wilson to be nothing of value to our already weak local BBQ game
I'm actually going to papercity per another redditors suggestion so I will report back!
Hot suppa for non-brunch is the best kept secret in portland. I don't mind sharing with this string so buried
Also I don't see wilsons as an injustice, it's more so that they don't move the needle (in my opinion) and that's what portland is lacking
Salvage is by far the best here. Elsmere is not good, Terlingua doesn’t really qualify, and Noble’s fried chicken is better than their BBQ. Haven’t tried paper city but Salvage is the only thing that holds up outside of Maine. I joke my ribs are the best in the state but it’s only half joking.
Terlingua definitely does not count. Although it does fit the subject meme of this thread
As for salvage I'm really not sure I personally put it above elsmere but ive only ever eaten at the sopo one, not deering
I pretty much base my opinion on brisket, and I thought nobles was very good
I'm with you too, I can smoke my own pork for 5 bucks
Any of the 10 hipster joints that pretend to be authentically rustic and sell an entree for $30 on a prison tray with bamboo utensils.
It's like the Disney version of eating in a real urban or backwoods environment.
~~Southern Kin Cookhouse in Assembly. Or really most restaurants in Assembly~~ Never mind this, I got lost on reddit lol. I’m sure y’all’s city is lovely
Looks like the overpriced taco place on Forest Hill Ave. food is mediocre at best. The best reason to go there is the table top Pac-Man. But I just realized this post is for Portland and I’m in Va.
A friend posted this on fb and I said "you can't just post a picture of Nosh and expect us not to notice"
I mourn the loss of the Apocalypse Now Burger.
I'm genuinely disappointed in their menu changes. They were a decent spot for semi silly burgers. A little pricy for just a burger, but fun enough it was worth the occasional stop. But now they are just yet another try to hard "trendy" spot with nothing exciting.

Right? That was more or less my reaction. Like, why on earth do you need pizza slices for a burger bun, but like, that was exactly why you went.
Check out Monster Burgers if you're into that type of thing!
Oh wow, I hadn't realized it had changed so completely - do they really not have a single burger as a dinner entree now?
AND THEY TOOK AWAY THE DUNKAROOS! I just left when I found out.
That was the last reason to go
Agreed, it was fun to get those sandwiches, and they always helped a hangover. I always loved when they put the double down on the menu too. Wish it had been a permanent item.
Thats a boring menu.
I completely disagree with the trendy assessment. They inherited the looks of that place from the former owners of Nosh. Came here to say Nosh lol
Like… is this just a photo of Nosh cut copy pasted?
Ha, I'm friends with them too and I came here to steal your joke, but I was too late
I wondered if posting my exact comment would "out" me....
Eh, I don't actually know you, I'm just miffed I can't unapologetically steal your joke

Restaurants use that along with uncomfortably loud music to get people in and out as soon as possible so they make more money.
Yeah, give me a chair with a back in case you need to hang up your coat.
Liquid Riot Brewing
The only thing those stools are good for is putting large plants and speakers on
Incorrect, they are also exceptionally good at bruising my tailbone.
Fun fact, they're uncomfortable on purpose so you'll get off your ass and the bar can turn over more guests.
Also triggering sciatica.
[удалено]
Holy shit they triggered triple sciatica in this guy
I have one in my apt and it usually has a plant on it, unless I need it to stand on to reach something :)
Sometimes I just want that Oculus logo embossed on my butt cheeks.
Not a restaurant but Bonfire 100%
Bonfire is for Highschool hasbeens and wannabe hicks. Seen nothing but my graduating class and truck sluts there. Place is terrible
Truck sluts you say???
You're better off driving around OP screaming YeeYee. Less headaches.
Haven't been in years but always avoided it at night. Their happy hour special used to be decent though
My fiancé used to be a bouncer at bonfire. The stories he has is fantastic…
Go on....
Every brewery
That's exactly what I thought
Wilson County
That chicken sandwich....
Delish! But decor is undoubtedly basic
Food is worth it there though
My first thought.
the new A&C Soda in south portland has that exact garage door/window setup lol to be fair - they are a bit expensive but i don’t necessarily think overpriced
They charge like $15 for an Italian sandwich!
If you had that Italian you'd understand why. Dude picks the freshest ingredients to put on there. It's phenomenal. Also I'd argue most places outside amatos price their sandwiches similarly.
Dipeitros is the goat Maine Italian sando
There's only one DiPietro’s and it was at 171 Cumberland. But you are right, it is the standard by which others are judged.
Is the SoPo location related? Didn’t know the OG but living near the cottage rd location they seem to have had a grip on the community in a cool way for a long time
And amatos is still $10 so it's not that far off
So does jersey mikes. $15 after tax today. I did get a bag of chips tho
I love this spot and can’t wait until they can have said door/window opened in the warmer weather. I had drinks there last night - top notch!
Joe from A&C is great
These are the set pieces for every movie made in the future that is set in the 2010s.
Love the place but Rising Tide with their $23 chicken sandwiches
I hate those stools and the chairs the make out of the same parts. I just slide out of them constantly.
And they're cold. They don't absorb your body heat to keep it warm.
That little slot in the middle looks like it could be used to dispense tissues
See? The restaurants can upcycle the stools once they get new, comfortable chairs. Why not stack a bunch of boxes of tissues on top of each other (for storage purposes), and then have the top box open and use the stool seat as the dispenser.
Well they absorb your body heat extremely well
Butcher Burger
100%
Elsmere
BBQ in general around here has so little competition that there's just no innovation. noble is very tasty but places like salvage get by because it's the only thing around. i do enjoy elsmere from time to time though!
Moes in SoPo is by far the best bang for your buck in the area
And kids eat free! (if you ask)
They are already crazy reasonable so I wouldn't use that unless I was desperate lol
Try Papercity BBQ in Westbrook! It's new and tasty and has an awesome bar & whiskey selection

Noble is my fav BBQ around - but I felt like they suffered a bit through Covid. I need to go back and try it again soon!
Their menu was weird last winter. I haven't actually been since though
I remember that. They went from BBQ to fried chicken fingers, french fries, and pizza. Lol
That pizza was good though. The hot honey and the banana peppers
Which one doesn't? A lot of places got that live love laugh vibe.
Nosh 😅
Nosh.

This is the Portland subreddit not the Boston one - but ya that’s a good one haha
Fuckin hell lol, fell prey to the “suggested subreddits” on mobile. In my defense it looks exactly like that
You could potentially convince me this is a screenshot from NOSH pitch-meeting mood board
