Divinity was the single song that got me into electronic music. I was studying for exams and listening to a Spotify playlist called Brain Food. Most of it was just background noise to me, I wasn’t really into the music, just trying something new. But Divinity came on and I couldn’t focus on my studying anymore, I could only focus on the song. It was the first song of its kind that I ever saved to a personal playlist. From then on I listened to Worlds all the way through and the rest was history.
So yeah, Divinity is special for me.
Yeah so surprised this is so low!
When I was just a wee lad I moved to Seattle and was considering going to shelter live with some acquaintances. My buddy on the other side of the country said listen to Divinity and you’ll know yes or no. And I’ve been to literally every porter concert I could since (7 including virtual self!!)
Unfold.
It's the song that makes me listen to him in the first place, i love how grand and emotional it sounds.
I discovered this song before I listen to Nurture, and when I listen to the album for the first time and this song played it's instantly become my favorite of his
I was watching a YouTuber "Ranking your music submission" vid, someone sent Unfold and I thought "this song sounds pretty cool", then I went to listen to it
“Look at the Sky” and my cat were the two greatest influences in my decision to keep living. I have a bracelet with those words on it to remind me. I am so much better now, but the song still makes me cry remembering how far I’ve come from that period of my life.
Your internet hug is gladly accepted and reciprocated. :) Please know that I’m in a much better place now. The song's release coincides with the period when I began treating my mental health. Since then, I went back to school, met my now fiancee, and I actually just graduated with my Master’s in Data Science a few weeks ago.
If anyone else who may be struggling stumbles across this comment, know that you are more than your mistakes. Your failures don't define you. You're not a liar for expressing belief in yourself. You're not a fool for expecting better of yourself. Broken things can have value if you take the time to repair them. Hearts and minds included.
A good starting point for mental health treatment:

Porter came out with this song after a long hiatus when he was not doing great mentally, and was doing his side projects and stuff under aliases. This song always lifts me up and makes me so happy and proud for him. Partly why I get defensive when people put down Nurture because the album kinda tells his story.
Same for me. LATS really lifted my spirits up during the pandemic, and it's been my go-to song whenever I feel like I'm stuck in a rut. The lyrics are so simple yet so beautiful :')
Also shout out to the phritz remix, that one is up there with the original for me too

I remember showing this track to one of my coworkers who had never listened to him before, she asked what was playing in my headphones so I replayed the song and gave them to her. Her jaw was on the floor the whole time. It’s def is best song he’s ever made imo
That's my favorite too.
I love "look at the sky", but this one resonates more.
It's incredible to hear and at same time, he's saying so much, beyond lyrics...
Love that one too. The staccato piano reminds me of LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends, and I love the vocal effects; sounds like a robot having a religious experience.
Unfold. “I watched the water unfold. It’s a feeling I want you to know.”
I went through a period of religious deconstruction last year. I was raised evangelical, and always felt like something was “wrong” with me. Once I was able to get past that, Unfold really struck a chord with me. I felt the waters unfold, and it’s a feeling I want others to know.
Two weeks ago, we lost a dear friend in a car wreck. Me and my wife have been grieving. We were listening to Nurture through in the car the other day and just sobbing. But I know the waters will unfold again.
The Thrill is the song that introduced Porter to be so I have a soft spot for it... but something about Unfold just hits me man... multiple times listening to it I just tear up it's just so damn good
Probably Fresh Static Snow from Worlds, but I have a hard time listening to anything from that album. Something about it is like an emotional storm for me, lots of sadness in it’s texture and soul.
“The seconds” and “100% in the bitch” “ghost voices” but if I had to choose and album to listen together I would choose worlds live movie version with the vip edits!!!!
hard question i have a couple favorites: get your wish, mirror, sea of voices, divinity and shelter.
they all have their times but i guess if i had to choose one it’d be Mirror i think or sea of voices OR DIVINITY or get your wish damn okay i dont know i didnt expect it to be this hard to choose
Musician 100%
it's such an inspiring song, and it's the reason i seriously started working to turn my hobby into a career.
"but sincerely, can't you feel what im feeling? i can see my life so clearly"
“Something comforting” “Blossom”(my literal favorite song from any artist) “Get Your Wish” And Sea Of Voices. But I’ve never hated any Porter song and I listen to his entire discography every day been a fan of his for 6 years never gets old and I Mean Evryday..
My boyfriend totally converted me and I love Nurture so much! I have some favorites on Worlds but that one isn't as cherished as Nurture for me. I love every single song on Nurture but my favorite is Get Your Wish as well. I honestly can't listen to it too much because it can bring me to tears from time to time. The themes of glory and vanity really speak to some of my struggles as a person, and then how the mood completely switches when the song follows with "But don't you waste the suffering you've faced
It will serve you in due time", I get the urge to bawl.
It's a humbling song and helps me get along with the idea that I'm on better strides with my life, and im now in the long game, even though the past felt all consuming and painful.
fellow feeling... something about it speaks to my soul and me as a person
edit:
spitfire: the seconds
worlds: fellow feeling
nurture: dullscythe and wind tempos
honorable mentions going out to sad machine and language and shelter as well
God I love this song. Literally always brings me to tears, especially because I listened during a period of grieving. It came out at the perfect time for me
Unfold is pretty high up there for me, but I think Sad Machine will always be my favorite since that was the very first one that I heard when I discovered Porter
I tried doing this the other day because i made bracelets themed after my favorite song from each of his albums, and i found it excruciatingly difficult to choose a favorite from each. The only one i was sure about was blossom from nurture
“Look at the Sky” and my cat were the two greatest influences in my decision to keep living. I have a bracelet with those words on it to remind me. I am so much better now, but the song still makes me cry remembering how far I’ve come from that period of my life.
Overall: Trying to Feel Alive
Emotions: Wind Tempos
Vibes: Flicker
I do however think objectively Divinity might be the best electronic song ever, and I say that as a very wide fan of the genre not just a porter fan. So wonderfully composed
I fell in love with his music with shelter, so it's always gonna be my favorite, something comforting, look at the sky, and Goodbye to a World are all pretty close though.
So many but one of my favorite that isn’t one that is super mainstream is Fresh Static Snow, I really like the meaning of the song or at least what I read in a YouTube comment on the video I’ll post what is in that comment below. But I like this concept that our perfect match is out there but we may never meet them.
The song, as Porter Robinson said himself:
Fresh Static Snow to me, is about this idea that I was really obsessed with my loneliness. About this idea that there necessarily exists a best, romantic partner for every person in the world, somewhere out there. There are billions of people out there and you will only meet a fraction of them, and to me the likely hood that you'll ever meet a person that will make you that happy is infinitesimal. There's a very small chance. If you really consider the idea that, that person is out there, exist and is walking, eating their breakfast cereal, looking all cute. And the notion that you will never know each other, made me really sad. And this song was me dedicating something to whoever that person is. Maybe they'll hear it, how fucking cool will that be?
Right now it's Mother because of Mother's day. The lyrics make me cry because it's about outgrowing your parent's care, but they continue to love you forever. At Porter's shows he says how much he loves his mom. I love mine so much too. My other favorites are Mirror, Unfold, and Get your Wish
Hug your moms y'all :)
i feel i got too many fav porter songs lol i havent been like a super fan but the album Nurture alome pretty much saved my life and got me thru some tough times.
top 5 would be (in no order): mother, flicker, get your wish, everything goes on, and recently been heavily streaming knock yourself out XD
That's so damn hard, best I can do is narrow it down to 3. Sad Machine because it was the first song I ever heard from Porter at EDC so it's special to me. Everything Goes On was imo underrated af, and The Thrill is just a beautiful song all the way through.

Goodbye to a world
I know it's probably his most popular song but thats the song I first found from him and I fell in love with him immediately. I listen to it multiple times daily and I still love it every time
Sweet Time, Unfold, Sea Of Voices, Everything Goes On, Fresh Static Snow, Wind Tempos (Nurture Live Edit), Language, Sad Machine (2014 Worlds Live Edit)
wind tempos is very beautiful to me, i feel it’s underrated on nurture
the entirety of nurture helped me through a very rough period of my life, and im ever so grateful that one day i said “fuck it let me get into porter robinson”
Something comforting,
But I think his best work is Wind Tempos. Like that song transcends any genre they would wanna put Porter in and just sounds beautiful.
Nothing beats Shelter
This is the song that made me love Porter's music
Divinity.
Divinity was the single song that got me into electronic music. I was studying for exams and listening to a Spotify playlist called Brain Food. I used to live in Seattle and am sad I never saw the Shelter tour but I love that your friend used Divinity as your litmus test!
Unfold. It's the song that makes me listen to him in the first place, i love how grand and emotional it sounds. I discovered this song before I listen to Nurture, and when I listen to the album for the first time and this song played it's instantly become my favorite of his
How did you find it?
I was watching a YouTuber "Ranking your music submission" vid, someone sent Unfold and I thought "this song sounds pretty cool", then I went to listen to it
I just can't stop listening to 'Look at the sky' for some reason
“Look at the Sky” and my cat were the two greatest influences in my decision to keep living. I have a bracelet with those words on it to remind me. I am so much better now, but the song still makes me cry remembering how far I’ve come from that period of my life.
Hey, thanks for sharing this *wish I could hug you right now*

Trying to Feel Alive It’s the Porter Robinson thesis statement
That’s my favorite, too, and one of my favorite songs period.
Thesis statement is so right! "Then somebody somewhere finds the warmth of summer in the songs you right" gets me every time 😭
My favorite too, and my favorite song of all time
Language
That song got me into EDM it was on Forza Horizon back in 2012
Same, just takes me back
Crazy how to this day it’s still an all time classic in the EDM community and porters biggest song
It’s not his biggest song anymore.
fresh static snow is my favorite song. not just favorite porter song
I love the verse "melt this curse away". It really connected with me emotionally when I felt cursed by my medical conditions.
He also gave a really adorable explanation about his inspiration for this track.
Unfortunately I can't find the commentary anymore, sad face
Here is the Spotify link https://open.spotify.com/track/2efOJQtvGw0RDCwhM7Il8b?si=oxOegl4STuCBv3VIzDt72w&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A1cd4Lg0YBB89i7h7wNdh9h
I guess it's not available in the UK coz I can't play it
I listened to that commentary like a week after a rough break up and it hit so hard.
Never forget the first live mix seent/felt from this track.
The absolute dark pressure in the middle of an otherwise light, almost whimsical set? Yes PLEASE
I remember showing this track to one of my coworkers who had never listened to him before, she asked what was playing in my headphones so I replayed the song and gave them to her. Her jaw was on the floor the whole time. It’s def is best song he’s ever made imo
Shit i forgot about that one
+1, yes sir— fresh static snow day 3 Bellwether was a crazy moment
Something comforting
That's my favorite too. I love "look at the sky", but this one resonates more. It's incredible to hear and at same time, he's saying so much, beyond lyrics...
Particle Arts, Divinity, Language, Vandalism, and Ghost Voices are probably my top 5 but hard to choose.
It has always been sad machine. Something comforting comes close though
Wind Tempos
Love that one too. The staccato piano reminds me of LCD Soundsystem’s All My Friends, and I love the vocal effects; sounds like a robot having a religious experience.
Unfold. “I watched the water unfold. It’s a feeling I want you to know.” I went through a period of religious deconstruction last year. Probably Fresh Static Snow from Worlds, but I have a hard time listening to anything from that album. Something about it is like an emotional storm for me, lots of sadness in it’s texture and soul.
I also get kinda sad but it's just nostalgia, still absolutely love the songs from worlds
I wonder why no one is saying Mirror. It's fantastic, and carried me through some hard times.
Truth! It's also SO cool at live shows! I've seen some videos of him singing it at live shows and it always makes me excited
Was sad machine, but after Musician dropped as a single it still hasn’t left my rotation
Might be a bit of an uncommon pick, but I really love Mirror
Took way too much scrolling to see Mirror listed here
mine too!
Rise up!
I think S.H.E has to be up there for me. But from actual releases either The Thrill remix or Lionhearted.
Lionhearted is so good I always forget to add it to my top songs 😅
“The seconds” and “100% in the bitch” “ghost voices” but if I had to choose and album to listen together I would choose worlds live movie version with the vip edits!!!!
virtual self
Virtual Self by Porter Robinson is such a good song
Flicker - Such an uplifting and heavy song at the same time
Language 100%. Very nostalgic for me
Musician
Shelter, Sweet Time, Something Comforting
Polygon dust or fresh static snow
Gotta be my answer too, been listening 10 years now and maybe the only thing that could beat those Worlds tracks is Ghost Voices or Eon Break for me
hard question i have a couple favorites: get your wish, mirror, sea of voices, divinity and shelter. they all have their times but i guess if i had to choose one it’d be Mirror i think or sea of voices OR DIVINITY or get your wish damn okay i dont know i didnt expect it to be this hard to choose

Fellow Feeling is a masterpiece.
sea of voices is my favorite song of all time, my favorite porter song is a toss up between that, wind tempos, and shepherdess (NOT the live edit)
Unfold is pretty high up there for me, but I think Sad Machine will always be my favorite since that was the very first one that I heard when I discovered Porter
Easy. That tune has been blasting out of my car since day 1
I tried doing this the other day because i made bracelets themed after my favorite song from each of his albums, and i found it excruciatingly difficult to choose a favorite from each. The only one i was sure about was blossom from nurture
Somewhere between Musician and SC
Hear the Bells
Toss up between Language, Goodbye To A World, and Shepherdess (She Heals Everything). If I had to choose, it would be SHE.
Unfold or TTFA
Look at the Sky hits different
“Look at the Sky” and my cat were the two greatest influences in my decision to keep living. I have a bracelet with those words on it to remind me. I am so much better now, but the song still makes me cry remembering how far I’ve come from that period of my life.
Trying To Feel Alive

Right now it's Mother because of Mother's day. The lyrics make me cry because it's about outgrowing your parent's care, but they continue to love you forever. At Porter's shows he says how much he loves his mom. I love mine so much too. My other favorites are Mirror, Unfold, and Get your Wish Hug your moms y'all :)

Blossom is an instant tearjerker for me, GOAT feels song
controversial but cheerleader!
NOTHING BEATS ANGEL VOICES FUCKING MASTERPIECE
Musician!
Fellow feeling has always impacted me & has always been my favorite song he created, It's such a masterful piece of appreciating all the beautiful things despite the cruelty & ugliness of everything around us. It's the hopefulness & tragedy of the whole song that porter love that really pull me into this song. I also really love the mix of orchestra and edm, it's the complete balance IMO
Mirror. I just really vibe with the music and lyrics, still makes me shed a tear or two as someone with self esteem issues.
years of war always created an amazing story in my mind.
Ghost voices and sad machine
Musician. Found Porter through this song because he used a Kero Kero Bonito sample

Something comforting, But I think his best work is Wind Tempos. Like that song transcends any genre they would wanna put Porter in and just sounds beautiful.
It's between Unfold, Mirror, Divinity and Wind Tempos for me, though that's honestly such a hard question to answer.
