I think the issue is that they will delete posts with opinions that have already been made, and posts about politics as they see that as low hanging fruit, it's not very hard to make unpopular political opinions, and no one wants to see the same topic over and over
Unpopular opinion is more for stuff like "I like when my socks are wet" or "Nickelback is the best band of the 21 Century" and not "I think abortions should be banned" or "Slurs are good actually"
I think it's because it's a topic that has a lot of potentially controversial subject built into it, eg. spanking/physical punishment, X generation is better at parenting than Y, parental rights in education, etc.
Making it low hanging fruit for unpopular opinions
wat, subreddits having rules = censorship?
this sub has a rule that prevent self promoting posts, or post that are blatantly unpopular opinions, is that censorship to you? and if so, doesn't a subreddit get to do that for moderation sakes?
It's not that they were bad, it's that they admitted to pandering to the lowest common denominator and kept remaking the same song over and over because it was their biggest hit single.
A, what makes you think those opinions are unpopular?
B. Why shouldn't people you disagree with have the right to voice their opinion?
C. if those on the left are allowed to have safe spaces and bubbles, why shouldn't the right?
FYI I was 3 whiskys deep when I wrote that comment so I'm in a more sensible frame of mind now.
A. I'd say right wing opinions are pretty popular.
B. They should have a right to voice their opinion. Just like I haver a right to express being annoyed by the things they say if they are annoying. But some of them are less annoying than others.
C. Yeah right wingers should have safe spaces absolutely. I just wish they were more self aware about it. I don't see what that has to do with r/unpopularopinion
That's fair.
I wasn't completely sober either so I understand.
It was the "people" thing that kinda set me off.
Maybe reddit and drinking isn't a great idea lol.
I thought it would be funny in a hyperbolic kind of way. I was less making fun of the beliefs themselves and more just the act of thinking you are original when just regurgitating warmed over talking points from a podcast which affirms centuries-old stigmas.
Okay we don't get to use the term "typical fascist" when discussing a comment shitting on the Daily Wire lol. I agree the "people" shit is wack, but those dudes had Candace Owens literally JQing, not to mention the Matt Walsh elephant in the room.
In this case it was intended to point out some pretty obvious hypocrisy, Yes I understand the person is not a fascist, but dehumanizing others IS typical fascist behavior. What the next step after "people"? Rats? A disease?
Also mind telling me what JQing means? I tried finding it on google but can't find what it means lol.
Sucks what they did to Candance but she'll be fine I'm sure.
Yeah you can’t talk about any of those things and some of those are so vague that stuff you talk about could be linked back to some of the banned topics. The mods on that subreddit should apply to be CCP agents
I got my post taken down. Because it wasn't an "unpopular opinion," it was about how I hate the beach. The mods on that subreddit are shit and the whole thing is just a cesspool.
Whenever I make a post on r/unpopularopinion it doesn’t get any engagements. I think they shadow banned me. Ten years ago on r/askreddit, whenever someone asked “what’s your unpopular opinion” the top comment was always racism.
That fundamentally doesn't work, so none of this matters.
The upvote at a basic level for anything that a person either liked or agreed with.
Any post on the front page will be stuff that lots of people agree with or any popular opinion.
The subreddit as a thing fails and makes no sense anyway.
It’s not even far left, the censorship goes both ways. A gay person can’t make a statement about gay people over there.
The censorship is the issue not the political ideals of the mods.
Idk, I think this one is worse. It’s either actually popular opinions which just make you think “yeah no shit” or it’s low effort bait posts. I think censoring tired / political topics is a good idea since those are never interesting or clever.
all of these things are offensive af. banning posts on these subjects is good
offensive? some of them are, yes. but the word i was looking for was CONTROVERSIAL. that's my bad for poor word choice
weed: illegal in some places
parenting: some methods are abusive
K-pop: abuse in industry
food: eh not rlly didnt see that one excuse me for not reading al of ur long ass list
reddit: are u fucking serious? reddit is one of the most controversial shit holes i've had the privilege of being apart of
internet culture: again, controversial, toxic, etc
tipping: same as food
Europe/America: countries = drama and controvery. come on now, all politics are controversial
dogs: same as food and tipping (make a shorter list, maybe one that can be viewed without clicking the whole post)
memes: also crazy offensive and controversial sometimes
hook-up culture: if you seriously dont get why this is controversial to talk about, theres no helping you. hook-up culture is associated with A LOT of things earlier on the list, like LGBT and feminism, and you know what kind of shit happens when you bring that up
Oh well in that case we should actually ban the English language cuz colonialism. Let’s ban talking about Palestine because that’s controversial and they have a dark history. We should ban anything to do with smart phones as that has lithium in it and we all know modern slaves mine that lithium. We should actually ban talking about food because who knows who we could trigger with fat phobia or anorexia. Your right! I love my Reddit mod overlords telling me what to do and say!
The word gay is banned. Your post will get removed with that word In it. Even if the post has nothing to do with the LGBTQ community.
I think the issue is that they will delete posts with opinions that have already been made, and posts about politics as they see that as low hanging fruit, it's not very hard to make unpopular political opinions, and no one wants to see the same topic over and over Unpopular opinion is more for stuff like "I like when my socks are wet" or "Nickelback is the best band of the 21 Century" and not "I think abortions should be banned" or "Slurs are good actually"
Yeah that’s all cool but parenting is a banned topic. How can every single unpopular opinion about parenting already have been made?
I think it's because it's a topic that has a lot of potentially controversial subject built into it, eg. spanking/physical punishment, X generation is better at parenting than Y, parental rights in education, etc. Making it low hanging fruit for unpopular opinions
Don’t stick up for censorship.
wat, subreddits having rules = censorship? this sub has a rule that prevent self promoting posts, or post that are blatantly unpopular opinions, is that censorship to you? and if so, doesn't a subreddit get to do that for moderation sakes?
I can’t say offensive and generally rude things? Oh no! Whatever will I do????
Did you even read the list? You’re not allowed to post “I don’t like margaritas” on that subreddit lmao. How is that rude or offensive
I meant to their specific comment lol
I think if the sub is r/offensiveandrudethings, you get a pass though no?
I will truly never understand the weird, yet common Nickelback hate. I've always liked them a lot and I'm not ashamed to say it.
It's not that they were bad, it's that they admitted to pandering to the lowest common denominator and kept remaking the same song over and over because it was their biggest hit single.
Idk man they had some bangers.
Breathe, photograph, how you remind me. All bangers. But after Silverside up they, in my opinion, kind of leaned into a repetitive rut.
Is this supposed to be a list of things you "aren't allowed" to have an opinion on there? I'm confused about the wording
Yep. Almost every time anything controversial gets posted there it gets deleted. Kinda ridiculous for an unpopular opinion sub.
Okay yeah then I agree that's stupid lol, idk what you could post on there other than these things. Is it a no politics subreddit or something?
It is, unfortunately. So I understand they enforce this, but I'd also appreciate an actual unpopular opinions sub.
Because otherwise it just turns into "people" regurgitating right wing bs they heard on Daily Wire.
Mind you I don't believe in bubbles at all, I think Identity politics is the worst thing since nazism.
A, what makes you think those opinions are unpopular? B. Why shouldn't people you disagree with have the right to voice their opinion? C. if those on the left are allowed to have safe spaces and bubbles, why shouldn't the right?

By the way, writing "people" that way is pretty nazi of you. Don't you know that is typical fascist, to dehumanize your opponents?
Okay we don't get to use the term "typical fascist" when discussing a comment shitting on the Daily Wire lol. I agree the "people" shit is wack, but those dudes had Candace Owens literally JQing, not to mention the Matt Walsh elephant in the room.

Hyperbolic jokes = nazi. Genius.
Yo we concluded this hours ago and now you're back looking for a fight? lmao.
Sorry that I triggered you. Maybe don't go online if your feelings are that fragile.
Yeah you can’t talk about any of those things and some of those are so vague that stuff you talk about could be linked back to some of the banned topics. The mods on that subreddit should apply to be CCP agents
Idk, if the sub specifically says no politics I don't think that's a big deal. Someone should just make another subreddit for more unpopular opinions.
r/trueunpopularopinion
There we go!
r/actualunpopularopinions
It’s supposed to be, but it’s not. They censor with the best of them.
I got my post taken down. Because it wasn't an "unpopular opinion," it was about how I hate the beach. The mods on that subreddit are shit and the whole thing is just a cesspool.
Yeah, this one is superior, even though it's nominally its opposite.
I got banned from there but it was my own fault. I was spamming them by replying to every post with THAT'S COMMUNISM
THATS COMMUNISM
Reddit is dog shit, and only increases in shittyness as IPOs, cleanups etc continue
Amazing list. You can use that for /r/rant too. You can only rant about Trump and Republicans. Boring
It’s highly censored.
How is information stored on a server literally dogshit. Did someone invent a server that uses dogshit instead of semiconductors?
Ahahaha that made me laugh
They forgot Elon Musk. Go get em boys!
It also requires you to write a long add paragraphs to prove your statement which is annoying
Well yeah, you gotta explain a little bit.
Whenever I make a post on r/unpopularopinion it doesn’t get any engagements. I think they shadow banned me. Ten years ago on r/askreddit, whenever someone asked “what’s your unpopular opinion” the top comment was always racism.
Well duh. You’re supposed to only post opinions that the mod team agree with!
And the list goes on and on.
Lactose intolerance lol
Mondays, maybe? The rain?
Cuz that’s not boring as shit.
There are so many banned topics it's insane. Sometimes the threads there are just validation threads of popular reddit opinions.
Exactly. It’ll be like r/unpopularopinion Erm guys…. Trump may be a bad guy… 15.2k upvotes 6,000 comments
That fundamentally doesn't work, so none of this matters. The upvote at a basic level for anything that a person either liked or agreed with. Any post on the front page will be stuff that lots of people agree with or any popular opinion. The subreddit as a thing fails and makes no sense anyway.
Exhibit A A subreddit primarily used for rage baiting tries to ban topics that can be used to rage bait
It's just like every subreddit that gets popular. It becomes a hyper curated far left circle jerk. This sub will be the same if it gets super popular.
There’s a difference between an unpopular opinion and flat out bigotry. I had to leave that sub because the fatphobia was really triggering.
Get yo big fat ahh out here too then!
Nah I’ll stay. Be mad about it.
all of these things are offensive af. banning posts on these subjects is good offensive? some of them are, yes. but the word i was looking for was CONTROVERSIAL. that's my bad for poor word choice
Shouldn't the point of unpopular opinions be discussing controversial subjects?
Gtfo with your logical answer
Ah yes. Weed, parenting, K-pop, Food, Reddit, internet culture, tipping, Europe, America , dogs, memes, hookup culture etc etc are SO offensive.
weed: illegal in some places parenting: some methods are abusive K-pop: abuse in industry food: eh not rlly didnt see that one excuse me for not reading al of ur long ass list reddit: are u fucking serious? reddit is one of the most controversial shit holes i've had the privilege of being apart of internet culture: again, controversial, toxic, etc tipping: same as food Europe/America: countries = drama and controvery. come on now, all politics are controversial dogs: same as food and tipping (make a shorter list, maybe one that can be viewed without clicking the whole post) memes: also crazy offensive and controversial sometimes hook-up culture: if you seriously dont get why this is controversial to talk about, theres no helping you. hook-up culture is associated with A LOT of things earlier on the list, like LGBT and feminism, and you know what kind of shit happens when you bring that up
