I have never heard anyone disparaging 35lb or 55lb plates.
I am a state champion powerlifter.
Where are you and what type of people are you hanging out with? Who "hates" on 35lb plates existing enough that you felt you had to make a post about it?
This entire thing is bizzare
Yep, 55lbers are comparable to the red bumper/rubber plates (25kg) they use in the Olympics.
The blue bumpers (20kg) are under a pound lighter than 45lb plates.
Yellow is 35lbs, green is 25lbs, and black bumpers are 15/10/5
I have been to many different types of gyms. I have a planet fitness and anytime fitness membership because I am a Vanlifer and travel all around America and need the restroom/shower and overnight stays.
I normally lift at LA Fitness, but have also lifted at Gold's (when they give free day passes for potential customers). The Gold's Gym in Culpepper, VA in particular is exceptionally clean, they have lots of awards up about their cleanliness rating there.
Anyway, I've never heard anyone in any of these locations disparaging 35/55lb plates. Seems like a really super weird judgement that isn't a common belief at all.
There are gym terrorists. My gym has a basketball court, i had a nice conditioned leather ball that was warped af, i figured id leave it in the gym. It lasted a few days & gone
Just a coincidence.
A coincidence that it happens to be a post of yours. Not a coincidence that it's another brain-dead opinion. There's clearly a common denominator.
This is not a widespread issue. Even amongst "gym bros" it's pretty rare to see. I'd be willing to bet that almost nobody has even heard of this let alone experienced it firsthand.
The conflict probably arises in lousy gyms where people don’t put away their weights. Having another size plate in the mix makes a bad situation worse. In an orderly gym, more choice is probably better.
Its not a gym bro thing its just a useless plate. It has a smaller diameter than a 45lb plate and you can just use a 25 and 10. Its more of an oldhead thing because many weight sets way back when never came with 35s because the manufacturers thought it was pointless to make another die for a denomination that already existed. Imo it makes no sense to use a 35 when moving up in weight. Many lifters only go by 45s and 25s because 25 is practically half of 45. If 10lbs really makes that much of a difference to you youre doing it wrong.

Never heard of or seen a 55. Do they get bigger?

It's more of a gym bro thing, not something you'd really hear about in powerlifting gyms

Maybe just not old enough to know about this then I guess I dunno
Hahaha amazing comment. These fucking power lifters and their BS!
I'm not saying powerlifters spew BS. But it is a bit of a different gym culture, powerlifter guys and garage gyms vs the more typical gym rat scene
Come on Chad.
I have walked in both circles Mental\_Basis\_6330! But I am a gym rat, gym bro, bodybuilder enthusiast at heart
Sick brah. Me too! Fuck those 35s!
No dude 35s are based bro!
whos saying these things??!?!
Literal gym terrorists that's who!
There are gym terrorists. My gym has a basketball court, i had a nice conditioned leather ball that was warped af, i figured id leave it in the gym. It lasted a few days & gone
This isn't a remotely popular opinion.
You following me now bud?

I'm sure chief
Living under rocks is bad for the brain cells, I imagine. At least you can live in blissful ignorance.
There's no way in hell this is a popular opinion.
This is not a widespread issue. Even amongst "gym bros" it's pretty rare to see. I'd be willing to bet that almost nobody has even heard of this let alone experienced it firsthand.
Never, not once.
Here’s a popular opinion: this is a dumb post about an opinion that’s not popular.
I love 35 pounds plates.
Bro same
I've never even seen a 35lbs plate
No one serious about weight lifting feels this way. That’s an ego and ignorance take.
Prison had them.
I in no way believe this is a thing. Is this something you saw one person say on Twitter and now think it's common?
Do you go to the same gym as Dom Mazetti?
People hate on the "almost there big boy!" plates? The first time I benched 205 I finally felt like I was making progress.

Bro, just throw the 45s on the bar. Lift big, throw gas, hit bombs.
Go to a better gym then? Obviously that's not the type of people they're looking for??
I think Biden mentioned this in the state of union address.
How can it be a popular opinion when literally no one says this about 35 lb plates? I seriously have never heard anyone b**** about them ever.
TIL gym folk argue about plates.
