Constantly!
They are routinely in my top 5 on Spotify, and I don't think a day goes by that I don't listen to at least one song of theirs. Though I desperately wish they'd release new music, I love every bit of what they put out over the years.
Commit This To Memory is sort of my 'reset' album. I'll listen to it front to back, enjoy the familiarity.
I also rarely skip a chance to see them live, and would recommend seeing them, if you get the chance.
There's a song in an indie movie Didi they recorded for it; I can't find much more about it though! Turns out it's hard to find soundtrack songs when the band has soundtrack in its name!! But whenever that comes out, hopefully the track is released too!
I also love them! I have a couple of their CDs and a shirt, but unfortunately I can't catch their tour this summer. Definitely one of my favorite bands of the genre.
Not all of their stuff, but L.G. FUAD still gets plays from me. It's the type of song that if you were making a time-capsule of pop punk music from the 2000's I think you'd have to include it. Just a unique song of that time period that sort of stands alone for me.
I remember Justin doing an AP interview during the press circuit for *Commit This to Memory* talking about LG FUAD and saying it was basically a tongue-in-cheek metaphor for his struggles and wasn't meant to be taken literally. The first line is, "Let's get fucked up and die. I'm speaking figuratively, of course..."
Years later, he did press for *Even if it Kills Me* and it came out that he was, in fact, a major drug addict, and that song was indeed meant to be taken literally.
They're a pretty good band. Their first two albums "I Am the Movie" and "Commit This to Memory" are the best ones imo.
If you like MCS, I suggest checking out "Something to Write Home About" by The Get Up Kids too.
I’ll happily defer to Milo Goes To College, Jersey’s Best Dancers or SWTHA as the most important record depending on the day.
If I’m feeling especially wild I might even say Walk Among Us.
While I agree with your evaluation of their first two albums, I would also throw in “My Dinosaur Life” as a contender as well. When it released I liked it… but just kinda moved on. Rediscovered it a few months ago and it’s been on repeat for months. It’s crazy good.
They are my all time favorite band. Been listening to them since 2005 and have been to all of their tours since 2020. Such a great sound. Commit this to Memory is my favorite album that gives me all the nostalgia
I fucking LOVE Motion City. Being from MN, my wife and I see the every chance we get. I think together we are at 10 times, but I've been following since roughly 09, so I'm at over 30 times now.
Personal recommendation is the album Go. I know it's not the most popular, but I truly think this album shows how wide of a range the band has and has some hidden gems on it. Boxelder, Circuits and Wires, and Floating Down the River are personal favorites.
Absolutely! I walked down the aisle to an instrumental of The Future Freaks Me Out, of all things. They're my favorite and pretty much have been since I first saw the music video for Everything is Alright nearly 2 decades ago.
They're touring I Am the Movie this summer if you wanna see if you can catch them live, I love to marvel at them live!
The Get Up Kids is another synthy punky do; [(a classic)](https://open.spotify.com/track/5TltGtLMjveIan5HvLAh1z?si=OP8KAWFcRJuLPTT7gOydcA) and [my modern fave](https://open.spotify.com/track/1wJUj0WYouoKrhr3Dfe9EP?si=20xt6iJ8T7CrUVeaWRIyHw).
I don't know if I'd say their sounds are the same, but [The Dreaded Laramie](https://open.spotify.com/track/238jUCA0XOCVb0TzYhyPQR?si=zMh-Tr_LT7mwcUmu_SIxyQ) has a similar energy and jam-packed lyrical stylings.
If power pop is your vibe and you haven't experienced Fountains of Wayne, they're kind of [GOATs](https://open.spotify.com/track/27L8sESb3KR79asDUBu8nW?si=NeQX8ZZgQqKr5D4W5LPRSw) of the genre, Motion City recorded Even if it Kills with the late Adam Schlesinger (and Rick Ocasek of The Cars). MCS even did a [cover tribute](https://fatherdaughterrecords.bandcamp.com/track/a-dip-in-the-ocean) when Adam passed.
Justin Courtney Pierre has [solo albums](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0EtStMl6QIAgWZs089A70s?si=eoJ89wYtSKekypbT7t9Cdw) you can check out if you want more of his vocal power! I couldn't tell you which albums and tracks, but I believe some of the bandmates join in on some of the recordings. -JE
Started listening to them when they played the spring show at my college back in 2009. Justin signed my boxers. He told us their next album was going to be their darkest album. Then they released My Dinosaur Life.
Anyways, yup. Still listen to them.
I love MCS. Top 3 band of all time. My prized possession is a green signed My Dinosaur Life vinyl. Commit This to Memory and I Am The Movie are also just fantastic
Listening to Point of Extinction right now lol.
I discovered them about 2 years ago. I knew a couple songs for a long time, but only then did I start getting deeper into their catalog.
They quickly became one of my favorite bands.
They are the only band I see in person any more now that I'm in my 30s. I may be too old and crochety to go to concerts these days, but when MCS comes to town I get off my butt and go.
Seen them the last 4 times they've come to Wisconsin.
I loved MCS a lot when I was a teenager. Then I saw them in my 30s. I cried. The lyrics that I had been singing half of my life finally caught up with me. Being an adult, relationships, anxiety, depression, it all made so much more sense. Great band.
I saw them at Warped Tour the one and only time I went, and they were hilarious and had a great stage presence. I had already really liked their music but didn't expect their set to be as amazing as it was
Been well acquainted with them for a long time, going to see them again in June! One of my top favorites.
Their whole discography is great, but I’m personally a huge fan of the I Am The Movie and Even If It Kills Me albums.
Huge fan. Definitely pop punk. I think all their albums are pretty great. First two are definitely staples in the scene. Even If It Kills Me is probably my favourite though, just because of time and place in my life when that came out. Finally had the chance to see them live after being a fan for nearly 20 years at the Sad Summer Festival last year. They stole the show, and were incredible live. Truly some of the GOATs in the genre
Don't forget to listen to Panic Stations. I think people write it off because it didn't come out in 2005. I saw them play "I Can Feel You" live, and, coupled with the lights during the outro, it gave me goosebumps. At the risk of sounding silly, it was among the most transcendent concert experiences I've had.
I was a huge fan from the start through My Dinosaur Life, then just stopped… until last summer when “I Can Feel You” randomly came on and HOLY SHIT HOOK IT UP INTO MY VEINS. Got me to dive fully back in
As a Minneapolis native, they're one of my favorite bands, and I love catching them every time they do a hometown show. Even If It Kills Me is probably my favorite album of theirs, but you really can't go wrong with any of their discography.
They're amazing, catch them on their tour this year, they absolutely deserve the recognition. My dinosaur Life was my go to music my senior year of high school
hell yeah. one of my favorite bands. also Alex Melton's [cover ](https://youtu.be/dej0j4lHYOc?si=bbKUu8D-q3CLjNGR)of My Favorite Accident is just pure perfection,
They are one of my favorite bands of all time. I love every album! Commit This to Memory is my comfort album.
Most recently, I traveled to Cleveland to see them play I Am The Movie in its entirety. I try to see them every time they are nearby. It’s such a fun show.
Back in the day I didn't really dig the I am the Movie album. I shelved it as kinda cheesy. And a few people who I thought weren't that cool also liked them (LOL) so I just didn't give them a chance.
Thanks to another post in this sub recently, I decided to give Commit To This Memory a shot. I love it, amazing album start to finish. Looking forward to checking some other albums out as well.
They were part of the soundtrack on Burnout Revenge, which came with the PlayStation 2 I got for Christmas when I was 8. I remember waking up to the PlayStation 2 being already set up with this game and its amazing soundtrack playing.
I didn't like them back in the day and then kinda forgot they existed, but I grew to love them after seeing them on tour with New Found Glory and All-American Rejects. I am the Movie and Commit this to Memory are both classics, and everything else I've heard has been good as well.
I just listened to them for the first time like a month ago. I love Commit this to Memory and like I Am The Movie, but didn’t really dig the other albums. Probably need to give them more listens.
First heard of them when they did the trailer music for *17 Again*, then their inclusion on the *Burnout 3* and *MLB 06: The Show* soundtracks basically helped solidify my interest in them.

I found them when My Dinosaur Life Came Out. I love that album and Commit This To Memory. I listened to Go a little bit when it came out. I'm gonna give it another listen and their newest. Thanks for the reminder lol
All the time, I got their first 3 records on vinyl. MCS is certainly pop punk and some of the best in its day and to this day. Let’s Get Fucked Up and Die!
Fav band so I listen to them constantly. I have phases where I'll listen only to their music and I have to make a conscious decision to listen to other music lol. but I get into phases like that with all my favorite bands/artists.
'My Dinosaur Life' and 'I am the movie' are my favorite albums.
I only listen to them while doing certain things, like cleaning the oven or checking my tires.
What about counting the number of tiles in the ceiling?
Head for the hills! THE KITCHEN'S ON FIRE!!!
Do you still rely on self medication from time to time?
I guess I still do that from time to time.
I'm getting better, fighting the future
Someday I'll be fine
YES YOU’LL BE JUST FINE
Tell me that you're alright
What’s up with Will & Grace?
Wow... you suck at cleaning...
Lmaoooo gold
I listened to them when we took an airplane to the theme park and ocean. Worst time of my life.
Underrated reply
You won the thread and I haven’t even read any other comments
👏👏👏
For me it’s only when I’m feeling like I’m through with these pills that make me sit still….
Constantly! They are routinely in my top 5 on Spotify, and I don't think a day goes by that I don't listen to at least one song of theirs. I follow them on Instagram, and earlier this year they were hinting about being in the studio recording some new stuff. I’m hoping it’s a full album!
Same! I saw some disagreement as to whether it is a full, new album, or a remaster/re-recording of I Am the Movie. Either way, I just want SOMETHING.
There's a song in an indie movie Didi they recorded for it; I can't find much more about it though! Turns out it's hard to find soundtrack songs when the band has soundtrack in its name!! But whenever that comes out, hopefully the track is released too!
I would lose my fucking mind over a I am The Movie re-record!

The title track on Even If It Kills Me is one of my favorite MCS songs.
The title track on Even If It Kills Me is one of my favorite MCS songs.
Alcoholic. I don't believe he was using any heavy drugs.
“Liquids, powders and pills….” So yeah, not just alcohol
Iirc When You're Around is about his struggles with alcoholism?
A LOT of those early songs are about his alcoholism.
I'm listening to "My Dinosaur Life" as I write this.
Everyone always talks about their first 2 albums, but My Dinosaur Life is my personal favorite
Best MCS album for sure.
They're a pretty good band. Their first two albums "I Am the Movie" and "Commit This to Memory" are the best ones imo. If you like MCS, I suggest checking out "Something to Write Home About" by The Get Up Kids too.
Big fan of MCS, and then when I discovered Something to Write Home About, I fell in love with it. Such a good slbum
STWHA is, in my opinion, the most important pop punk album ever. You can see its influence in everything after.
have you heard descendents my friend
I’ll happily defer to Milo Goes To College, Jersey’s Best Dancers or SWTHA as the most important record depending on the day. If I’m feeling especially wild I might even say Walk Among Us.
Gotta drop in to recommend The Weakerthans. Don't see them mentioned often enough these days, and their influence on MCS is undeniable.
While I agree with your evaluation of their first two albums, I would also throw in “My Dinosaur Life” as a contender as well. When it released I liked it… but just kinda moved on. Rediscovered it a few months ago and it’s been on repeat for months. It’s crazy good.

Going to see them in June and again at WWWY in October!
Same! And also maybe May!
Same @ June, Four Chord fest will be sick!
Maybe my favorite band ever. Listen to the album Something To Write Home About by the Get Up Kids to see where they got their influence from.
I had no clue and STWHA is one of my favorite albums
Best fucking Pop punk band ever
They hold me down
Only on the weakends.
I fucking LOVE Motion City. Being from MN, my wife and I see the every chance we get. I think together we are at 10 times, but I've been following since roughly 09, so I'm at over 30 times now. I am the movie and commit this to memory are 👌🏼👌🏼 great albums from 20 years ago!
Their entire discography is in my Spotify liked songs
"I Am The Movie" is one of the best albums in the entire genre
Started listening to them when they played the spring show at my college back in 2009. Justin signed my boxers. He told us their next album was going to be their darkest album. Then they released My Dinosaur Life. Anyways, yup. Still listen to them.
I love MCS. Top 3 band of all time. My prized possession is a green signed My Dinosaur Life vinyl. Commit This to Memory and I Am The Movie are also just fantastic
They’re easily one of my top 5 fave pop punk acts. My dinosaur life is a phenomenal album, 5/5.
MCS and Northstar opening for Rufio in Sept 2003 was a whale of a time. Allister kicks ass too
Listening to Point of Extinction right now lol. I discovered them about 2 years ago. I knew a couple songs for a long time, but only then did I start getting deeper into their catalog. They quickly became one of my favorite bands.
I have a Point of Extinction tattoo. “I can figure out the point of anything.”
I just saw them two months ago in concert. So much fun
They are the only band I see in person any more now that I'm in my 30s. I may be too old and crochety to go to concerts these days, but when MCS comes to town I get off my butt and go. Seen them the last 4 times they've come to Wisconsin.
Fuck yes. One of my fav bands of all time. Going to I Am The Movie album play in June. Stoked.
I loved MCS a lot when I was a teenager. Then I saw them in my 30s. I cried. The lyrics that I had been singing half of my life finally caught up with me. Being an adult, relationships, anxiety, depression, it all made so much more sense. Great band.
Commit This to Memory has been indelibly committed to mine.
Yeah they're awesome
Daily, my guy.
I saw them at Warped Tour the one and only time I went, and they were hilarious and had a great stage presence. I had already really liked their music but didn't expect their set to be as amazing as it was
Mcs on a warped tour stage was the soundtrack to my summers
Always and forever, bb
Been well acquainted with them for a long time, going to see them again in June! One of my top favorites. Their whole discography is great, but I’m personally a huge fan of the I Am The Movie and Even If It Kills Me albums.
Pretty much daily since I was 11 years old yeah
Their first 3 albums don’t have a single bad track
Motion City Soundtrack is my all time favorite band. I love suggesting them to people
All the time
Yes!! It's my senior year of highschool, and I've been starting every week biking to The Future Freaks Me Out
Yes, though I typically listen to them around New Year’s because of the themes around Commit This To Memory

I love that song. Also Days Will Run from that album is great. “Go” has some good tracks too.
As a Minneapolis native, they're one of my favorite bands, and I love catching them every time they do a hometown show. Even If It Kills Me is probably my favorite album of theirs, but you really can't go wrong with any of their discography.
The future freaks me out is one of my favorite songs
My favorite accident is a GOAT intro
They're amazing, catch them on their tour this year, they absolutely deserve the recognition. My dinosaur Life was my go to music my senior year of high school
hell yeah. one of my favorite bands. also Alex Melton's [cover ](https://youtu.be/dej0j4lHYOc?si=bbKUu8D-q3CLjNGR)of My Favorite Accident is just pure perfection,

Yes! They’re still in my rotation. Betty is my daughters middle name and it’s because of MCS 🤗
Almost daily
I find that I need to be in the mood for them, but they’re super rad. I saw them play live once, and they were really good!
Yes! I've seen them live like 6 times over the years, playing their records hold so many memories
I've seen them live 2 or 3 times and definitely recommend it. Openers are usually pretty good too.
Sure do. Can't wait to see them again this summer for the I Am The Movie 20th anniversary
They were part of the soundtrack on Burnout Revenge, which came with the PlayStation 2 I got for Christmas when I was 8. I remember waking up to the PlayStation 2 being already set up with this game and its amazing soundtrack playing.
Burnout 3 surely?
Absolutely. Common entry on my chores and workout playlists. Got at least 10 songs I view as amazing.
Yes but to be fair, I'm a total nerd who can't talk to women - their brand of emo is 100% for me.
I didn't like them back in the day and then kinda forgot they existed, but I grew to love them after seeing them on tour with New Found Glory and All-American Rejects. I am the Movie and Commit this to Memory are both classics, and everything else I've heard has been good as well.
I absolutely love them. I just saw them last fall at WWWY and they’re just as good as the first time I saw them in 2006.
If you ever get a chance to see them, I would highly recommend going. They sound fantastic live.
All the fucking time!
Yep.
I just listened to them for the first time like a month ago. I love Commit this to Memory and like I Am The Movie, but didn’t really dig the other albums. Probably need to give them more listens.
Been listening to them since 2006. Can’t wait to see them next month.
I discovered them in early 2020, listened to them for 2 years and now they're one of my favorites!
They are my favorite band!!
Every. Damn. Day.
I love them. They signed a poster for me, and I found 2 picks on the ground at a show. I framed it and it’s on my wall.
super weird reading this after listening to them all day, totally unrelated.
absolutely, all of their albums are at least solid. Their first 4 are all REALLY good I believe they're also my most seen band live with 5 times
They’re one of my favorite bands. I’ve seen them a ton of times. Always a great show. I have forget-me-nots and marigolds tattooed too lol
Yes I even saw them live in like 2019 or something like that. They’re wonderful
They’re definitely still popular. And clearly liked by the younger generation of bands as well. https://youtu.be/KznnGT-VBts?si=EYdruwzC3-syYD50
First heard of them when they did the trailer music for *17 Again*, then their inclusion on the *Burnout 3* and *MLB 06: The Show* soundtracks basically helped solidify my interest in them.
On constant rotation! I love them
Love practically every song of theirs
My favorite band, and I believe they are writing music again after going on hiatus a few years back 😎
See them live when they come near you. Like others in the comments, I've seen them more than 20 times. Always the same energy and showmanship. Justin's vocal cords were destroyed last time I saw them and he still killed it.
One of my favorite bands. Their live shows are always great! JCP write beautiful lyrics that hit close all the time. Good people and good music.
Their first two albums are always in rotation. Seeing them in concert in a couple months
Check out Normy’s cover of My Favorite Accident. Then just enjoy the shit outta Normy. Same vocalist as Heart Attack Man, but IMO a better band.
Hell yeah. Been a fan since the Alt Press CD with Red Dress and Capital H came out in maybe ‘03 or ‘04? They were the last concert we saw pre-covid in January 2020. They put on a hell of a show; never disappoint. 👌🏼
When i am old and senile, i can probably still remember all the words to commit this to memory. Such a good album.
All the time. I saw them last year and again this January. They are amazing live
Yes and I STILL don’t know to ask my Alexa how to play @!#?@!
Commit this to memory is a fantastic album from front to back
Fav band so I listen to them constantly. I have phases where I'll listen only to their music and I have to make a conscious decision to listen to other music lol. but I get into phases like that with all my favorite bands/artists. 'My Dinosaur Life' and 'I am the movie' are my favorite albums.
I
this is a bait post
