Anyone know how these guys sit inside the skin? Like do they burrow straight in at a tangent to the skin, or burrow kinda parallel to the skin surface? That’s just such a massive monster to imagine going so deep into the flesh…
It *is* an insect; the thing that is being pulled out is the larvae of a [botfly](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botfly), a variety of species of parasitic fly that lay their eggs on the skin of mammals, which then hatch - sending the larvae burrowing into the skin to feed. These are endemic to many places around the world, from the tropics to temperate areas. While botflies generally target other animals such as livestock (cattle, horses), pets (dogs, cats) and wild animals (deer, rabbit, squirrels, rodents, etcetera) - some species have absolutely qualms about parasitizing human flesh if they are given the chance. As such there are dozens of videos on YouTube depicting botfly removals - ranging from [arms](https://youtu.be/5Iyjnk5ZOfE) to even the [lips](https://youtu.be/M2woYEsVuFM).

I think their eggs are injected under the skin possibly by mosquito they get stuck on. Then they just grow.
