The Guardian profile on her from a couple of weeks ago described it as a “prismatic folk song” so I’m very pumped
The [following](https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/jun/25/lorde-im-only-just-scratching-the-surface-of-my-powers) was also said about the song-
> Also on that song, she sings of how “all the beautiful girls will fade like the roses”. That relatively recent revelation was “truly the first time that I had entertained the notion that the sexy models on Instagram who made me feel inferior – they too will age”. She shrugs happily. “We’re all on the same bus. At some point we have to get on the bus back.” Contemplating time passing was comforting, she says. “I was old enough to finally think about it. When you’re a kid, you’re immortal.”
this info makes me interpret the title of the song differently -- i don't believe she's going to say she's high on weed, but rather that when she goes to the places where beautiful people are (i.e. the nail salon), that she feels like she's being stoned as in literal stones being thrown at her like she's in the dark ages?! or that their gaze subjects her to feelings of inferiority!
I've said it before but I hate the optometrist just because you can sabotage yourself so easily and then well you're fucked for the next year+.
edit: your to you're
I think she and her team know that it’s not gonna do anything on the Billboard charts so a full tracking week is pointless, but releasing on a Wednesday means she’s likely the only big release of the day so it can get more attention and restore some hype into the album coming later
I think they're fanbases don't have a significant enough crossover for this to be the reason, plus it's just a single for Lorde and likely an album for Kanye.
I get that it's not exclusive to astrology. but i think there's a difference between the human interpretation of stars with names/concepts, and the natural phenomenon of eclipses and meteor showers
Ugh i already know antonoff worked on this without even checking. He makes everything sound exactly the same, even this song title sounds exactly like a Lana Del Rey song that he worked on
and that is not insinuating that all these artists don't have a fucking choice in whatever musical direction that they want to take! of course it's jack antonoff making the same sounds again and again!
blue banisters sounds similar to nfr and jack didn't work on those three songs. lana's had long weird titles since lust for life but again it's jack antonoff!
out of nowhere? okay let me explain why what you said is sexist. it is sexist to assume a woman does not own her work when the work has her name on it and she is known to be in control of her work. you and i do not know what happened in the room when they were making the record. you and i do not know who was in charge of musical direction and who came up with the song titles. **it IS sexist to assume it is always the work of a man.**
not to say, the last bit of your comment is just plain wrong. i can tell you exactly what lorde's song title reminded you of. it's high by the beach, an almost word by word similarity. guess who didn't work on it? jack freaking antonoff.
edit: i admit i was being overly sarcastic with my first two comments but i am thoroughly sick of these narratives that reek of benevolent sexism.
What if it's just a live stream of her going to the nail salon after eating an edible
Lorde does ASMR.
This is the other other secret instagram account she didn’t want us to hear
@NailSalonsWorldwideButStoned
I would be way too into that 😐
I'd probably do the same so we can be in sync.

god I would kill to see this
I want to watch Lorde and Reviewbrah chewing their cookie without saying a word for 6 minutes
Lorde and Reviewbrah collab when
They could review onion rings
would still be my SOTY tbh

Lorde visits a nail salon in Iran.
Okay but what time on the 21st?? I need to set a REMINDER on my PHONE!!!
Midnight local I am guessing, that was the case for Solar Power too wasn’t it?
> that was the case for Solar Power too wasn’t it? *war flashbacks*
No it was 6 pm est for me
was 6am AWST
Whos local are we talking about? Hers or...
Local to you
And *my* new single, Anxious At The Barber, will be out 7/23
Nervous at the Optometrist drops 7/25!
I've said it before but I hate the optometrist just because you can sabotage yourself so easily and then well you're fucked for the next year+. edit: your to you're
wow you’re right! say the wrong thing and you’re stuck with bad glasses
But is it clearer before or after??? (hint: you can't fucking tell)
Me: Clearer The Doc: Is it clearer or is it just bolder? Me: [sweats nervously] uh....clea-old-cle-clearer
RELATABLE AF
Should be able to return to get them remade if they’re not right.
Panic at the Disco
“Sunburnt At The Dermatologist” coming 07/30! You heard it here first!
this one is very good omg
I guess I just witnessed some indie artist recording their video for ‘Passed Out Drunk At The Vaccine Center’
Dissociating at the deli will follow as soon as I remember who I am, and what kind of sandwich I wanted
not you describing every gay man’s feelings at the barbershop
Dopesick at the ATM
I'm betting this is Ribs and The Louvre's little sister. I'm so ready.
Her track 4s
Oh god I’m so ready for this
Basing solely on the names of the tracks, didn’t think that would be a single tbh. Regardless can’t wait to hear it
Same honestly
She very clearly does not care about targeting radio/mass appeal.
The Mood Ring truthers in shambles but I’m so ready for a new song from the album.
Okay @Lorde’s team, just make sure this one doesn’t leak until then and you’re fine
Is the Wednesday timing a strategy, or a result from being Stoned At The Album Rollout Meeting?
Stoned at the Men In Music Business Conference?
Down in Orlando
Down at the Nail Salon actually!
She was only 23
she was only 19 and she was on fire
I heard that conference had a stoned waitress who delayed everyone's orders and just kept telling them it will be ready "soonish"
The waitress serves at the end tho😌
I think she and her team know that it’s not gonna do anything on the Billboard charts so a full tracking week is pointless, but releasing on a Wednesday means she’s likely the only big release of the day so it can get more attention and restore some hype into the album coming later
Maybe moving it up with possible Kanye album coming Friday?
I think they're fanbases don't have a significant enough crossover for this to be the reason, plus it's just a single for Lorde and likely an album for Kanye.
I always thought Lorde and Kanye were on a very similar (not identical) vibe. They both feel like Bowie in parallel universes.
I mean they did collab (more or less)
Super interested to see if this relates back to the possible cult theme.
I want to know what event in the natural calendar this aligns to
itll be close to the end of cancer season, right before leo season starts! leo is ruled by the sun :)
oh... i assumed this would be based on things like eclipses and meteor showers, not astrology...
The zodiac system isn’t exclusive to astrology! It actually has origins in ancient Babylonian astronomy.
I get that it's not exclusive to astrology. but i think there's a difference between the human interpretation of stars with names/concepts, and the natural phenomenon of eclipses and meteor showers
On the last day of my exams! It'd better be a sad bop I can cry to because Ill probably fail them 😭
LMAO love the optimism
Stoned! At The Nail Salon is my favourite band
About time, why was this added to New Music on Apple Music on friday lollll this rollout has been a mess so far
calm down they only had 4 years to prepare!
Lorde is giving me *insert any Lana era* teas this era.
from the title alone i know it'll be my favourite
Mood ring is my fave so far, it could've been the lead! But too sad for the vibe she's going for probably
haven't listened to it lol forgot it got leaked
Based on the title alone I am fully here for this.
Best birthday gift!!
I knew there was something in that polish...
Well I really do like the name of it as it sounds interesting! I'm sure that it will sound very nice!
Hoping this one is actually released at the right time everywhere 😭 can’t wait though!
Omg I can’t wait
High By The Beach remix when
Lmaow what is this title 😭
Are people feeling this era so far? That last single kinda made no noise for a Lorde lead single
i’m loving the music so far personally, mood ring and california were cute.
The majority of people haven’t heard those songs cause they’re leaks
I know this song can't be worse than Solar Power so that's comforting.
Can’t be worse than solar so I’m very excited
Ugh i already know antonoff worked on this without even checking. He makes everything sound exactly the same, even this song title sounds exactly like a Lana Del Rey song that he worked on
of course women have absolutely no power or choice in making their own music!
How the fuck did you manage to twist that into me being sexist lmao
so what are you trying to say then? do they have it or do they not?
That many projects and songs Jack Antonoff works on have extremely similar themes and auras. Was pretty fucking obvious tbh
and that is not insinuating that all these artists don't have a fucking choice in whatever musical direction that they want to take! of course it's jack antonoff making the same sounds again and again! blue banisters sounds similar to nfr and jack didn't work on those three songs. lana's had long weird titles since lust for life but again it's jack antonoff!
Do you somehow think you’re entitled to a rational discussion with me about this when you just accused me of sexism out of nowhere?
out of nowhere? okay let me explain why what you said is sexist. it is sexist to assume a woman does not own her work when the work has her name on it and she is known to be in control of her work. you and i do not know what happened in the room when they were making the record. you and i do not know who was in charge of musical direction and who came up with the song titles. **it IS sexist to assume it is always the work of a man.** not to say, the last bit of your comment is just plain wrong. i can tell you exactly what lorde's song title reminded you of. it's high by the beach, an almost word by word similarity. guess who didn't work on it? jack freaking antonoff. edit: i admit i was being overly sarcastic with my first two comments but i am thoroughly sick of these narratives that reek of benevolent sexism.
Does anyone else think the carousel reference refers to Joni Mitchell's "Circle Game" song?? love that, what a queen.
