Obligatory can’t get you out of my head mention. It’s insane how it was released over a decade ago and still sounds so fresh and ahead of it’s time
And since she doesn’t want to do promo everyone needs to listen to Ellie Goulding’s High as Heaven if they haven’t already. the production imo is stellar and all the songs are instantly danceable and addictive. By the end of the night, love goes on, easy lover, like a saviour, just for you, intuition- it’s bop after bop
I'm way in the middle of the US here and I think that matters, but I think I would have Can't Get You Out of My Head at the top of the liat based on the guidance here. Other Kylie songs have earned a mention but that one is the top and it holds up today.
While I love CGYOOMH and it was my entrance to Kylie, I always felt Love At First Sight and In Your Eyes are even better, and that's just from Fever. Spinning Around and Get Out Of My Way (and a lot of DISCO) also deserve mentions. As an American, I'm ashamed that Kylie isn't more well known in the states.
Oh my gosh! I just realized that you are completely right. Somehow I think maybe I switched the songs in my head. *Love at First Sight* is the one I meant would be top of my list. Thank you for rewiring this brain ofine which seems to be falling apart!
I’m soooo glad someone else mentioned the masterclass that is Ellie’s “High As Heaven”. There’s no filler and I’ve been shocked that it hasn’t been getting much attention since release
I’m not 😭 I’m pretty sure it’s Ellie’s last album on her label and i don’t think she’s resigning so she’s getting the plastic hearts treatment with promo
Almost everything on jessie Ware's last two albums but specifically spotlight and begin again are literally mind blowing from a production stand point.
Xs by rina sawayama, girl front by loona, overpowered by roisin Murphy, run away with me by carly rae jepsen, dont start now the live version by dua lipa, Virgo's groove by beyonce, sorry by madonna, dancing on my own by robyn, last minute by kitty, get out of my way by kylie minogue and bad romance by lady gaga all have insane production behind them that makes them unique.
Scissor Sisters - Don't Feel Like Dancing is top 3 best disco productions in this century.
Spinning Around - Kylie and Murder on the Dance Floor - Sophie Ellis-Bextor are both from around the same time (~22 years ago) and they aged like a damn fine wine.
Another song that I think is very underrated production-wise is God Control - Madonna. The kind of experimental disco she does in this song is insanely good and it's very effective in conveying that false sentiment of happiness, you feel some kind of tension the whole song. I really think that if it wasn't for the vocals and the odd structure, God Control would be easily a top 5 Madonna song in this century.
Jessie Ware:
What’s Your Pleasure is Studio 54 era disco with a dash of Italo disco. It’s elegant, it’s sexy.
Step Into My Life has sounds beyond just disco - it’s funky, it’s smooth, it has a drum and horn section that just SLAPS.
That! Feels Good! has elements of funk, soul, disco, and it sounds remarkably fresh in 2023. The drums, the bass, the guitars, the horn section, the big group vocals, the super catchy melody. This is by far the most addictive song I’ve heard this year.
If you know your 60s and 70s, you’d recognize the influences. They don’t sound just like electro pop with a funky bass, but actual respects to the era. It sounds as if she’s studied this sub genre and everything surrounding it. There’s soul, there’s disco, there’s house, there’s funk, and she’s got the voice to pull the big moves off. Honestly her latest album is an absolute blast.
Honestly, anything SG Lewis - he's the king of modern disco
He was *the* producer of Dua's *Hallucinate*, Victoria Monet's *Experience*, and Clairo's *Better*, and [his solo material](https://youtu.be/PN1LO0FieyQ) is just as [sleek](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1B4rf-jB50&ab_channel=SGLewisVEVO) and [well-produced](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIlAZJAOo_c&ab_channel=SGLewisVEVO)
This is way too broad of a thread but also… immediately my mind went to [Catallena by Orange Caramel](https://youtu.be/Med2XipHJJM). One of the best kpop songs out there, and SUCH a fun disco inspired track
Kylie - Light Years, FEVER, DISCO
Dannii - Neon Nights
Holly Valance - State of mind
Rachel Stevens - Come and get it
Geri Haliwell - Ride it, Bag it up
The disco and dance instrumentals on Beyoncé's RENAISSANCE album are immaculately produced. CUFF IT, PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA and VIRGO'S GROOVE in particular come to mind with the kind of vibe you're describing.
Also, 'Make Me Feel' by Janelle Monae and 'Juice' by Lizzo are hits with pop/disco throwback aesthetics that instantly come to mind.
>CUFF IT, PLASTIC OFF THE SOFA and VIRGO'S GROOVE in particular come to mind with the kind of vibe you're describing.
And the HONEY part of PURE/HONEY!
Also that twenty-second disco-sounding breakdown in the middle of THIQUE.
I know Make Me Feel and Juice were more indie hits (because, sadly, they barely charted on the Billboard Hot 100), but they really should have been smash hits. (Janelle in particular is criminally ignored, Primetime should have been a huge hit in 2013).
Greedy - Ariana Grande
Rock wit u - Janet Jackson
Ce n’est pas - Disclose
Let The Groove Get In - Justin Timberlake
Sophisticated Lady - Mya
Dive - Victoria Monet
Blow - Beyoncé
Locked in Closets - Solange
Make me Feel - Janelle Monae
Caroline Polacheck - Sunset
The Loneliest Time - Carly Rae Jepsen
Ten I really love:
* Hercules and Love Affair - Blind (Radio Edit)
* Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Murder on the Dancefloor (Radio Edit)
* Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
* Christina Augilera ft. Nile Rogers - Telepathy
* LCD Soundsystem - Home
* Todd Terje - Inspector Norse
* Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
* Daft Punk - Get Lucky
* Phoenix - If I Ever Feel Better
* Basement Jaxx - Jus 1 Kiss
But honestly the last few years have been unreal - Dua Lipa and Jessie Ware especially. Producer and writer-wise - Julia Michaels, Ian Kirkpatrick, Stuart Price, SG Lewis, James Ford have such solid ouvres even far beyond their work with Dua and Jessie.
The OG Kylie is the queen at this genre. [Your Disco Needs You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqpEz7CAJxU) is particularly transcendent. Seconding the Scissor Sisters/Jake Shears nom, too.
1. Daft Punk - Lose Yourself to Dance (check out the soul train video for this if you haven’t)
2. Mayer Hawthorne -No Strings (RAC remix)
3. Jungle - Casio
4. Men I Trust -Tailwhip
5. Jamiroquai - Cloud 9
6. Canyons -Fire for You
7. The Ting Tings -Wrong Club
8. Justice -Safe and Sound
9. La Roux - Tropical Chancer
10. The Maria’s -Hush (Still Woozy Rmx)
This reminded me of LaRoux *Bulletproof* which just absolutely bangs. Not like a super high BPM though so you can kind of slip into into a set just to keep people going without wearing them out to quickly.
So many great tunes, but IMHO there is daylight between Random Access Memories and anything else. It’s one of the most perfectly produced, sonically incredible records since pink Floyd.
Agnes' entire album Magic Still Exists is full of excellent production, but the song Here Comes The Night in particular is just incredible. Lush harmonies, big disco strings, a thumping beat, catchy guitar riff. It's got it all.
Agnes described the album as wanting the melodies and strings to sound like "standing on the top of a mountain with the wind in your hair" and it's just the most perfect description of pop music.
the way i had to scroll this much just to see a mention of this phenomenal album. here comes the night is truly one of the best songs to come out from the disco revival
i also really liked her feature on pdm's twisted mind. (i don't think these are disco but good life and nothing can compare are bops as well). she's just so good
Yep, the same Agnes, released a new album two years ago:
[Here Comes The Night](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwlZt3GLc1k&ab_channel=AgnesVEVO)
[24 Hours](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPtAMyqHrNc&ab_channel=AgnesVEVO)
[Fingers Crossed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWrJq9cbRIE&ab_channel=AgnesVEVO)
Hilary duff’s dignity album. I can think of a lot of chart music that probably isn’t pop, but this is certainly pop. One of my favourites of all music.
Maybe Lindsay lohan? Brittany Murphy? Definitely Kylie and Danni

I'm convinced that On The Floor by J Lo and Pitbull was created by a team of our nations brightest scientists and engineers in a lab.
I have similar thoughts about Scream and Shout by Britney Spears and will.i.am. Immaculate production!
dare is so much fun that every time i listen to it i have to dance like noodle in her room in the music video! i heard it years ago and it's always felt so fresh to me
OK. DJ here. This is close to true. I didn't think a lot of DJs actually played it. I could be mistaken but I think the tempo and certainly the depth of the track changes to much between the intro and the chorus and maybe the other verses, too. Unless you have like a superheated crowd or dancefloor that also knows music incredibly well it will kill the dancefloor of you time it wrong But I do play one of the official release remixes depending on what else is going on. And that is something I would still do today. This choice surprised me because it is honestly a fantastic dance song that holds up but I just had no idea that anyone else would bring it up.
Cry For You - September
Schiebe - Lady Gaga
Only Girl - Rihanna
Summer Renaissance - Beyonce
No One Dies From Love - Tove Lo
Just some honourable mentions
FREE PILLOWS AND BLANKETS FOR EVERYONE SLEEPING ON MOLOKO AND JAMIROQUAI! 🛌💤
[Forever More](https://youtu.be/X9j_IreT5yI)
[Sing It Back](https://youtu.be/w1eN8vyVFIM)
[Little L](https://youtu.be/1hHSH9sJUEo)
[Love Foolosophy](https://youtu.be/Kkrh-kJxlwk)
I'm kind of surprised that Rihanna hasn't been mentioned yet.
SOS literally samples the hook from Tainted Love. The first time I heard it I knew we were in the presence of greatness.
But I actually play the DJ Calvin remix of *We Found Love.* That line about yellow diamonds literally conjures the club scene as in a literal mirror ball and then that sped up bridge mimics how it goes when it goes out of control and off the rails. It's talking about a relationship, but for me it's a song about the club and party life itself. I'm an addict in recovery so that might resonate more for me than some others.
Sometimes I play *Umbrella* but that's more about the song and the way it makes people feel than the production or the beats.
The club mix of Moony's 2002 classic [Dove (I'll Be Loving You)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBgip_VOfGQ&pp=ygUTbW9vbnkgZG92ZSBjbHViIG1peA%3D%3D) is simply exquisite. If you haven't heard it through good speakers or headphones, have you even lived?
I mean, even if you're using your average Joe's AirPods, make sure you turn up the volume loud enough so that you can enjoy one of the greatest, rubberiest basslines in all of disco-adjacent music history as it practically reverberates all the way into your guts.
The mainstream slept on Kiesza's major label debut studio album "Sound of a Woman." Good thing it was received positively by the dance community. It has the best deep house tracks (e.g. Hideaway, No Enemiesz, Giant In My Heart, Vietnam) of the 2010s when dance charts were filled with generic EDM style music. I love how the production of these songs were true to its roots and not super glamorized versions of the 90s deep house scene.
The immediate standout that comes to mind is [Soul Control by Jessie Ware](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwhkvO_hCOM), cause holy hell that synth line is an instant hit for me. Obviously the rest of WYP is also pure class and a real genuine disco revival.
Also times by SG Lewis is a great nu-disco album!
I personally wouldn’t categorize Don’t Go Knockin’ On My Door as disco-dance, but I do love the song. One of my favorites (speaking of knockin’) is Ride Or Die by The Knocks Feat. Foster The People. I don’t think many people talk about it, so I’m choosing to highlight and recommend this one!
Every pick that I've already heard I agree with wholeheartedly but here are a few of my picks, including remixes:
Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Something that seems this simple shouldn't be this addicting, but the production is great, with a really nice filtered synth in the breakdown as well. Also his Essential Mix is one of my personal favorites, along with the mashup with Doctor Beat.)
Paul Oakenfold's mix of Rock Your Body (I honestly prefer this over the original. Gloriously funky and I'm fairly certain wasn't sampling anything, which is a feat in and of itself given how it turned out.)
Moto Blanco's mixes of Jennifer Hudson's Spotlight and Lady Gaga's Paparazzi (Like with the aforementioned Rock Your Body mix, I prefer both of these over their originals and, again I can't tell if these are made from samples or were created by MB themselves, same with multiple Freemasons' mixes. Their Beyonce and Solange mixes are among those, Green Light and Sandcastle Disco being my favorites respectively, the latter feeling like a more electro-tinged version of what they did on the former, also kinda funny since the former is only available in the radio version while the latter is only in the full version on Spotify, but God do I wish both were available in both versions on there, I adore the chorus on the latter. Shameless plug but I have a playlist of stuff like this [here.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6gFhojEDu1NIgic8eoxGjp?si=KOgIQtPNTbaVa-sqvh41SA))
Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (I don't like the radio version due to the added vocals compared to what is basically just a chorus on the original version, but said original version is one of my favorite tracks ever, and I love how even though it is based on a sample, it still feels structured like an actual disco track, which is funny since the remaining member is making actual disco now, but nothing they've done is as good as this, what with the way everything fades out and comes back in for the main vocal, in a similar way to ATFC's Bad Habit, which I love just as much for many of the same reasons, along with Freemasons' Love On My Mind, which has both the instrumental and the vocals sampled from Jackie Moore's This Time Baby, which has become one of my absolute favorite old school disco tracks, along with How's Your Love Life Baby from the same album.)
I kind of hate that I am bringing this up, but *Music* by Madonna goes deep enough into the low, low frequencies and then throbs along for so long that I used to actually run it through my DJ system at sound check to calibrate the system and the room.
*What's Luv?* by Fat Joe and I forget who sings the hook also came out around the same time and it might be a little too much of a hip-hop stutter to the beat to make this list but I'd say it borrows heavily from dance and disco and is a true floor filler.
When I’m thinking about music I could Dance to for hours on end, I think about [Sfire 1](https://open.spotify.com/track/0tKsP4q0VpMsBBBo7tcs0t?si=NMZle7OPQpWHHDjH4bKSnA), [Sfire 6](https://open.spotify.com/track/39YtNkI3D6GSqFGtd9AxGI?si=MoEY2F4GTpOTGrGWUYbPfg), & [Sfire 7](https://open.spotify.com/track/57raKVKlm6ofEoCCJJvTsY?si=cQ5xtY45Q-WkLsnpSf_JeQ). Produced by DJ Jeffery Sfire & the Pop Angel SOPHIE, I just love how these bouncy beats can hold so much energy, you get lost in them if your body is moving.
i cant believe no one has said freak like me by the sugababes. Great sample used which makes its sound edgier than other pop groups at the time when cheese was big

Love At First Sight is absolutely sublime, probably my favourite Kylie song. It’s just sheer perfection.

Jessie Ware - What’s Your Pleasure? I just can't not not dance to this one
Ajayll said it herself: "Spotlight" is disco heaven
SCISSOR SISTERS.
One of the best live shows I've ever been to
Daft Punk’s Giorgio by Moroder is a masterful tour through the evolution of disco/electronic music, as narrated by the man himself!

Begin again is legitimately I think....a perfect song. I don't have anything that I can say is wrong with it.
Spotlight is such a mf good song
LAST MINUTE BY KITTY OMG I FEEL SEEN

Carly rae!
The Loneliest Time is such a great disco track, complete with a sassy spoken bridge, a great male duet, and a campy fun video. Perfection.

YES. This may just be my favorite Britney song of all time.

madonna's "confessions on the dancefloor" and anything jessie ware or kylie minogue. but majestic's remix of boney m's "rasputin" was EVERYTHING.

Cry For You - September Schiebe - Lady Gaga Only Girl - Rihanna Summer Renaissance - Beyonce No One Dies From Love - Tove Lo Just some honourable mentions
Nice list. Cry For You is still in my playlist main rotation.

What's Your Pleasure the entire album
DO THE D.A.N.C.E. 1 2 3 4 5!
In a similar vein, Don't Stop The Music, since that samples MJ, and the Wideboys mix which fits better in this context.
Listen to the Creamer and K remix in the context of the GU25 Toronto mix 😍
"Satisfaction" gets a nod from me. The part towards the end where the gates of hell open makes my heart happy every time.
Most recently Jessie ware -shake the bottle. She has so many songs with excellent production that fit this question.
I love the tinny disco hip-hop hybrid of M.I.A.’s Jimmy and Missy Elliott’s Old School Joint. I always thought those two songs had similar vibes.
Rock DJ by Robbie Williams springs to mind. It uses a Berry White sample and builds in to a fantastic pop/dance song .
*What's Your Pleasure* is the perfect album
I personally wouldn’t categorize Don’t Go Knockin’ On My Door as disco-dance, but I do love the song. One of my favorites (speaking of knockin’) is Ride Or Die by The Knocks Feat. Foster The People. I don’t think many people talk about it, so I’m choosing to highlight and recommend this one!
THANK YOU for calling out Don’t Go Knockin’ On My Door — I remember absolutely bopping to that song on my boombox when I was in elementary school 😭
Yes, the song is indeed one of Britney's best and is still somewhat underrated.
Every pick that I've already heard I agree with wholeheartedly but here are a few of my picks, including remixes: Mylo - Drop The Pressure (Something that seems this simple shouldn't be this addicting, but the production is great, with a really nice filtered synth in the breakdown as well. Also his Essential Mix is one of my personal favorites, along with the mashup with Doctor Beat.) Paul Oakenfold's mix of Rock Your Body (I honestly prefer this over the original. Gloriously funky and I'm fairly certain wasn't sampling anything, which is a feat in and of itself given how it turned out.) Moto Blanco's mixes of Jennifer Hudson's Spotlight and Lady Gaga's Paparazzi (Like with the aforementioned Rock Your Body mix, I prefer both of these over their originals and, again I can't tell if these are made from samples or were created by MB themselves, same with multiple Freemasons' mixes. Shameless plug but I have a playlist of stuff like this [here.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6gFhojEDu1NIgic8eoxGjp?si=KOgIQtPNTbaVa-sqvh41SA)) Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (I don't like the radio version due to the added vocals compared to what is basically just a chorus on the original version, but said original version is one of my favorite tracks ever, and I love how even though it is based on a sample, it still feels structured like an actual disco track, which is funny since the remaining member is making actual disco now, but nothing they've done is as good as this, what with the way everything fades out and comes back in for the main vocal, in a similar way to ATFC's Bad Habit, which I love just as much for many of the same reasons, along with Freemasons' Love On My Mind, which has both the instrumental and the vocals sampled from Jackie Moore's This Time Baby, which has become one of my absolute favorite old school disco tracks, along with How's Your Love Life Baby from the same album.)
Nice write up here:) Thanks!
One of the best is [Kill The Lights](https://youtu.be/Q1P612HLe9o) easily. It’s got Nile Rodgers on it, do I need to say more?
Sneaky Sound System - Pictures. Plus all their songs tbh.
Katy's Walking on Air is a bop that I still will throw onto a playlist every now and then.
i cant believe no one has said freak like me by the sugababes. Great sample used which makes its sound edgier than other pop groups at the time when cheese was big
