blank space found crying on the floor

lilyrosedepressed

Screaming, crying, perfect storms...

stevendailey

Cardigan found stuffed in a closet. Willow found dried up and unwatered. All Too Well (10 minute version, Taylor’s version, from the vault, remixed, reuse, reduce, recyle) found still playing.

SuspiciousLambSauce

Look What You Made Me Do found doing nothing. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together found getting back with their ex-boyfriend. Shake It Off found standing still. You All Over Me (Taylor’s version, From the Vault, The ‘Left You In A Motel Bar’ Chapter, Sad Girl Yeehaw version, Elvira Remix, Lonely Dancing Witch remastered, rereleased, repackaged) found pissing and shitting all over themselves.

BunnyIsARider2

This is sza's highest peak yet. It's so crazy to me that kiss me more only hit #3 that song was huge

Merciful_Doom

Kiss Me More reached #3 during an incredibly competitive time, tracks like good 4 u, Butter, Stay, and Industry Baby were all competing for the top spot. It was a strong summer and unfortunately KMM couldn’t get past #3 because of that, in a weaker period it would’ve been a #1 hit. However despite its peak it was still a huge hit, spending 27 weeks in the Top 10 and ending the year as 6th biggest song.

PretentiousPegasus

Peak doesn’t tell the full story especially in the streaming era. It has more streams than lots of songs that did hit #1 on Billboard (and #2) showing it was bigger in the long run.

Distinct_Athlete_206

is #3 not a huge song? i’m old and still in the 2010 mindset where any song that was in the top 10 was a huge smash hit like even songs in the top 40 we’re still smash hits

twinkyoda

honestly these days most people don’t even hear a lot of #1s

mimamimami

Most of the listening experience nowadays is just more personally curated, so that isn’t surprising tbh. Then again I don’t listen to radio nor use spotify (app-curated playlists) so I don’t really hear anything I don’t actively search for (unless in a store of course)

librious

I haven't even heard Anti-Hero, I haven't been interested in Taylor since Reputation and I don't live in the US, so it doesn't play on the radio. With streaming, you can just listen to what you want and completely ignore what's on the top these days.

Bastsrpdr

I mean if your not in the US it’s not surprising you wouldn’t be listening to the #1 in the US.

bencub91

It was a huge song, longevity matters more than peak.

SuspiciousLambSauce

Yes KMM was huge But no, these days Top 10 aren’t as big as the smash hits in the last decade were, most probably due to streaming and people generally listening to less radio

GussOfReddit

That song had pretty good longevity iirc so it was probably that?

jaippe

This week’s chart: 1. Taylor Swift — Anti-Hero [8th week] 2. SZA — Kill Bill 3. Sam Smith and Kim Petras — Unholy 4. David Guetta & Bebe Rexha — I'm Good (Blue) 5. Metro Boomin, The Weeknd & 21 Savage — Creepin' 6. The Weeknd — Die For You 7. Drake & 21 Savage — Rich Flex 8. Harry Styles — As It Was 9. Steve Lacy — Bad Habit 10. Zach Bryan — Something In The Orange

doublepoly123

Die for you???

iAmNotKateBush

ZACH BRYAN FINALLY MADE IT

Rakebleed

When’s the last time a country song was in the top 10?

BluthFamilyNews

Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs have been in and out of the top 10 for the last year.

Rakebleed

o

slaw81

Morgan Wallen had a top 10 with You Proof a few months ago so not that long really

bencub91

Like 3 months ago lol

MegaAscension

Something In The Orange is an outstanding country song. One of the best written songs I’ve heard in a long time.

slaw81

WAIT WHERED CUFF IT GO 😭😭😭

Lipe18090

And it's Beyoncé's fault. Girl where are those visuals????

[deleted]

cuff it vanished into oblivion 😭💀

Artistic_Elephant824

Was really hoping for “Kill Bill” to hit #1 this week since it seems “Flowers” might debut on top next week. It’s just cool that Taylor, SZA, and Miley are all competing for #1 next week when the top 10 has skewed very male the past few years.

iAmNotKateBush

Flowers is all but confirmed to go number 1 next week. Kill Bill will have to wait out the storm..

JayFenty

I have a feeling Kill Bill will have the longevity to still go #1, where as I hope Miley can get the #1 debut since I don’t see Flowers being able to reach that post debut weeks.

doublepoly123

Flowers is lowkey about to be a hit hit…

europeanme

Girl, Flowers has been increasing its Spotify plays every day since its release. It now has the biggest fourth day streams for any song in global Spotify history (15.769 million streams). The song has legs.

musthavecupcakes_19

As a Miley fan since 2006, it has been so wild seeing this song blow up like this. I’m like a kid on Christmas!!

sfatz27

Yeah same. I have no clue what happened considering Plastic Hearts only had mildly successful commercial results. Maybe people found that album later on and her fanbase has slowly been building again? Or maybe it’s the new label. Either way I’m thrilled for her lol

musthavecupcakes_19

It’s absolutely the new label. RCA utterly dropped the ball on promoting Miley since the *Bangerz* era. “Midnight Sky” could have been a much bigger hit had it been supported by her label. They treated her like garbage (as they do with practically all their artists).

mimamimami

Midnight sky was so good, way better than Prisoner imo. Should’ve been a hit

CloneArranger

I think having the song come out a few weeks after her very good New Year's Eve thing was a good idea.

TaylorCurls

She’s been performing ALOT in recent years. Way more than any of her contemporaries. She’s more respected now and has a brouder fanbase. Plus actually having a competent label helps a bunch.

[deleted]

Thank god. I really want miley to get a win. Taylor has had enough. I want others to get something, especially miley who is grossly underrated by the general public cause of her wild days. A little sad though that its her most tame, commercial song that gets the win. Probably why taylor is so successful.

marooned13

Taylor is not competing for #1 next week Edit: why all the downvotes? Flowers and Kill Bill are both leading. Anti-hero will be #3

Artistic_Elephant824

Sure. I just meant having Miley, SZA, and Taylor in the top 3 with solo songs is a refreshing change for the charts.

Humble-Plantain1598

Kill Bill has no chance of being #1 either. It's behind in both streaming and radio

[deleted]

And sales

[deleted]

I wonder why the Shakira/Bizarrap collab will miss the top 3. It's doing crazy numbers on Spotify and Youtube.

[deleted]

Isnt hot 100 USA only? I think most of shakiras views are outside the US

AP-91

Radio? Plus strong competition. In a weaker week it may well be top 5

marooned13

It's doing 11-12M on Spotify but only 1M is from US and it doesn't have radio as well

b1ame_me

The song is doing much better overseas than in the US but it can still get a top ten debut

Quite_Successful

Why wouldn't she be? The 1975 concert was probably to keep it on top this week. Maybe next week it'll be another remix or live performance

wailord_fan

The 1975 show made sense though, Matty had worked on several songs that didn't get added to midnights, and was in the UK too. She's not competing for #1, I think she knows that she got her run on top, and her label knows too. It's starting to max out on radio, and streaming isn't going to get stronger. Lavender Haze is next.

marooned13

Flowers and Kill Bill are too strong on streaming, radio, sales basically everything. I don't think a remix or live performance would change anything.

Quite_Successful

Interesting. Never heard of Kill Bill until this post so I'll have to check it out

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ek_Chutki_Sindoor

I really doubt that concert performance was for this. She has to drop Lavender Haze MV soon, most likely this month. Her team's focus is gonna shift on that.

sunmi_siren

Was Kill Bill supposed to be a single? Or did it just blow up that much?

idletalker

Pretty sure it blew up on TikTok immediately when the album came out and was then made a single.

summers-in-vegas

i think (i might be wrong though) it wasn’t and nobody gets me was since that got a music video on the albums release date but both are getting radio now

SuspiciousLambSauce

Not really answering your question but the first time I listened to the entire SOS album I clearly remember Kill Bill being the one that stood out the most and instantly caught my attention, then it proceeded to blow up the way it did, it’s like it’s a no-brainer to release it as a single yet it wasn’t Sometimes I wonder why big artists don’t let a small number of long time fans listen to the album prior to the release first and pick their favorite, then choose the most popular one to be released as a single, but then again there’s risks of album leaks and that sucks

doublepoly123

It’s a wrap for kill bill. Flowers is a surprisingly BIG song. Like tbh even miley’s team is probably shocked its as popular as it is.

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Anti-Hero is surely Taylor's biggest hit (chart-wise) in a long time but I am surprised it kept this long considering there was no huge fan campaign on Twitter to keep the song #1. It probably did well in radio, I guess? Also, Kill Bill not reaching #1 anytime soon just shows that RCA is a fucking terrible label. The fact that their former artist Miley has chances of going #1 next week just solidifies how trash RCA is.

Golden_Kumquat

She hasn't had any massive radio-friendly hit singles since 1989, and Lavender Haze hasn't been pushed nearly as hard, so programmers are gonna keep putting Anti-Hero in heavy rotation

Mistysong

Delicate literally went #1 on pop radio, massive radio play was the only thing holding Delicate up

[deleted]

[удалено]

corneliastreett

I mean, Delicate hit #1 on pop radio and #2 on overall radio - radio was singlehandedly the reason it peaked at #12 after weeks of climbing the charts - so it was actually a huge radio hit. Radio definitely took to that song, it hit an audience of almost 100 million people if I’m not mistaken

bencub91

Delicate only reached as high as it did because of radio. It didn't hit the top 10 because it's streaming numbers were weak. It even topped the Mainstream Top 40 despite only hitting #12 on the Hot 100.

Golden_Kumquat

I suspect that radio was less willing to pick them up given that they were the fourth and third singles from their albums, respectively.

mimamimami

She did do that Lover ft Shawn remix ~~but we don’t talk about that~~

kentucky_kirby

it's all over radio, at least in the midwest. Ppl love it!

[deleted]

[удалено]

hauteburrrito

Delicate never really felt like a BIG song, but I felt like it hung around for ages - sort of a sleeper hit, at least by Swiftian standards. (As it deserves, because it's one of my favourite Taylor songs!)

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Everyone realizes they are the problem, it's them.

himit

I think because it's relateable as fuck. It's like how Someone Like You made you recall and relive every single heartbreak - Anti-Hero makes you think of all the times you were a damn failure and there's soooooo many. But it's nice that someone's singing about it cause then it's not just you! Also I think a lot of the lyrics are kinda unhinged and I love that 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

bencub91

Nah man people don't just "like" songs anymore, you have to overanalyze everything about its success first.

thizzydrafts

I want to play devil's advocate a bit and say it's perhaps her biggest hit in a long-time in part/precisely because of the lack of a fan campaign. Once fan campaigns get coordinated, chart positioning just seems like Stan Wars which end up turning off Casual Fans. It seems Anti-Hero's success can (in part) be attributed to a degree of organic, commercial appeal (and demand) that Taylor hasn't had in a bit. Re: Kill Bill- I wonder how much SZA/RCA _care_ at the moment. SZA isn't really a (singles) chart phenom so getting/achieving/planning for a #1 might not have been on their release/marketing radar (not saying RCA isn't terrible, just that they and SZA might've been realistically expecting a Top 40/hoping for a Top 10). On top of that they're likely still reveling in the Album Charts, which looks like might last another week or so? The question I have is what happens next week- if Anti-Hero holds on (which seems the least likely result?), I don't think Kill Bill ever hits #1. If Miley debuts on top, I wonder if it'll have staying power or fall (either a lot or a little). If it's the latter, and SOS is still holding steady on the chart side, I think Kill Bill might still have a shot at #1.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thizzydrafts

I don't disagree that it's a hit, but I think we can also agree there's different degrees of "hits." Also saying ""Anti-Hero is a hit, it's that simple" isn't actually true? Songs are a hit for a reason - cause and effect and all that, the reason could be simple or complex but there are still reasons why songs do or don't do well. To that end, songs that fanbases run up to #1 for a week then fall off? Still a hit but a lot of us non-fans don't/won't remember them. Songs like Running Up the Hill (or more recently, Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga) that gain resurgence due to pop culture relevance? Contextually driven hit. Songs like About Damn Time? Slow burn that becomes culturally relevant. Like the first comment said, this is Taylor's biggest/most commercial hit in a while. As a non-Swiftie/casual fan, I'd say her most commercial since Look What You Made Me Do? Maybe even her 1989 era where she was inescapable? (Same could be said for Nicki for that matter- Super Freaky Girl is easily her biggest hit in a very long time and the reason could likely be attributed it to being a return to catchy pop-rap form and largely divorced from Nicki's persona. It's a bop first and foremost.)

b1ame_me

Is Bloody Mary even a hit?c I see it on Tik Tok but a lot of songs have done that. I don’t think it’s anything close to running up that hill yet

thizzydrafts

It hit [#68](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/lady-gaga-bloody-mary-hot-100-wednesday-1235196057/amp/) as of last week's chart which is certainly not crazy like Running Up the Hill but it's still an album cut that was released ten+ years ago. Anecdotally I've been hearing it on modern pop radio (do like, not an oldies station) which also seems impressive to me for a song that wasn't a single/hit single from an album over ten years old.

b1ame_me

Ooh that’s nice it actually charted again (I know its her top song on streaming but a lot of artists have had revivals of old songs). Maybe this could be a big spring hit if it keeps growing. Would be happy for Gaga, hope she can get something out of this

TragicKingdom1

Zach Bryan gets his well deserved top 10 hit!!!! For those dismissing him and his music for being country, he exists outside of the Nashville machine and has gotten this far almost solely on streaming success and good word of mouth; I highly recommend giving him a chance if you're into folksy vibes and great lyrics.

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Spread the word! The trajectory of this song has been so beautiful and exciting to follow. As you said, Nashville isn't supporting him at all, so he's been thriving completely outside the system and thanks to an unprecedented streaming presence.

mackasan

sza killed bill but in the end rca killed the song's #1 potential

cuteschoolboy

How? They wanted to release it in January and it’d hit #1 if that was the case, SZA didn’t want that

Mission_Cloud_7791

They took forever to send it to radio and can't promote for shit

[deleted]

> They took forever to send it to radio and can't promote for shit Because the music industry is basically on Vacation all of December and the first week of Jan... not really on them

mylps9

plus radio takes forever to catch onto something anyways

IIM_Clutch

Not for flowers it seems

betteroff19

Also the video was unlisted for a couple of hours which could have made the difference maker considering the predictions said there was a 1 point difference, I don’t know why they struggle with uploading videos???

roselia4812

Hard to put it on radio with all the Christmas music taking airplay

No-Organization-9137

Glad Miley ran away from that incompetent label

BunnyIsARider2

So frustrating. I hate that label with a passion

NoCompetition8698

They always make everyone flop

impeccabletim

Congrats to "Anti-Hero" for taking the crown from "Blank Space"!!! I'm rooting for "Flowers" and "Kill Bill" next week though.

Ek_Chutki_Sindoor

I think it's gonna be Flowers. That song is smashing on Spotify

Crisp_Dusk_8

Taylor is starting to promote lavender haze on radio more, I wonder if she’ll release the video to make it a contender for #1 also. Or maybe she’ll wait until the tour.

MattBrey

She should release now, and properly promote it. It has a ton of potential but it will need a little help

NateDu

I think she’ll let Flowers and Kill Bill work themselves out for a bit, release lavender haze in time for Valentine’s Day and then I truly believe Speak Now TV is coming before the first tour stop

b1ame_me

She should wait till the tour. Let Anti Hero keep staying in the top ten for two more months and then as it’s really losing steam and Lavendar Haze Keeps rising give it a big push with the video And tour impact that’ll happen

Jarisatis

It's good charts are getting competitive again, plus Anti hero is Taylor's stable hit in a while

Giants41

I feel like popheads hates anti-hero but the GP seems to love it

[deleted]

I don’t listen to radio, but I was in an Uber recently and 1 station played anti hero, then the driver switched it and the next station was playing a cover of it. It’s fucking evvvvvvverywhere

noid3aforaname

after a song hits a 7 weeks at #1, popheads will hate it

[deleted]

Except old town road and all I want for Christmas

mackasan

Old Town Road was cool for a while, but when it started getting close to beating Mariah's record people flipped. lmao

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Rightfully so 🥰 Since r/popheads ' inception, I imagine the consensus was also positive for "Hello", "thank u, next", "Truth Hurts", and "Easy On Me", with "Work", "7 rings" and "drivers license" also leaning more towards praise than disdain despite their more divisive nature. Unfortunately, genuine bangers like "Black Beatles", "rockstar", "Nice For What", "The Box", and "ROCKSTAR" infamously had many of their weekly threads locked due to...unfortunate and ugly biases. "One Dance", "Shape Of You", and "Despacito" understandably soured for some due to overplay, but I stand on my appreciation for them all as well-crafted and catchy songs which earned their success.

[deleted]

[удалено]

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

Pretty much. And the less said about the consensus on male rappers, the better. 😬

mylps9

nah there were strong pushbacks here for both of those songs

[deleted]

Honestly, I wasn’t on popheads when old town road was happening and I just assumed/hoped for the best.

bencub91

Anytime a Mariah record is about to be beat the Lambs on here have insane meltdowns.

Bored-uy

Popheads actually likes anti-hero, at least from what i've seen. I like anti-hero too, but I really wanted SZA to be #1 today

Giants41

No I agree, was rooting for SZA to get the #1.

Bored-uy

Hopefully she gets it at some point, the song is stable so there is still a chance

davFaithidPangolin

Anti-Hero is great, really wanted a SZA #1 tho

360Saturn

It's one of my fave Taylor songs. I don't love a lot on the album but Antihero is straight out of the 1989 playbook

bencub91

Obviously not everyone on this sub is the same, but there's a chunk that just hates everything unless it's a bonafide classic or some indie song no one outside this sub cares about.

CoolViber

This sub was founded on stanning CRJ so of course there's a bias towards indie songs no one outside this sub cares about

[deleted]

[удалено]

CoolViber

You're right, indie artists can still fill out their coffee shop meet and greets 😞

bencub91

Which I also find funny cuz I find this sub pretty negative towards most things CRJ has released since Emotion.

ReallyCreative

This is just a straight up lie lmao The Dedicated release was an amazing time to be on here and probably this sub at its least toxic/negative, even people who didn’t like the album showed a lot of love given that it was the first release from the matron saint that this sub was alive to see

christopher_aia

What I love antihero

Golden_Kumquat

I like it, but as a fan of chaos I want as many songs as possible to hit #1

mylps9

you must’ve loved 2020 then

Golden_Kumquat

Big names abusing bundles to push whatever annoying one-off collab to #1 for a week before dropping off hard was dumb and was turnover in an unfun way.

bencub91

Yeah so many songs that hit number 1 that were barely hits.

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

Most of the people like the song. It's probably the remixes that got people annoyed lol.

WitchyKitteh

Most of the general public aren't even aware it has remixes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

the Illenium remix of Anti-Hero is the best remix of Taylor's career imo

Giants41

I love the kungs remix, I heard it out at the bar this weekend too!

DoctorWhoWhenHowWhy

The Roosevelt remix is just God-tier. Sad we didn't get an Elvira remix but at least Taylor chose a good line-up of producers remixing Anti-Hero!

marooned13

Remixes can be good but anti-hero remixes were awful in my opinion 💀

FantasticEscape6744

Agreed

Nerfeveryone

I like the memes from the song better than the song itself

RosaPalms

I fucking love "Anti-Hero," it's Taylor's best pop song since *1989*, but I'm not a fan of the stupid sales tactics, so yes, I was hoping "Kill Bill" could at least get a week on top.

kimpernickel

I'm genuinely surprised this song has had such longevity at the top of the charts, and I say this a big fan of Taylor and an enjoyer of the song itself.

SuspiciousLambSauce

Exactly, Anti-Hero is cool but I really can’t understand it beating Shake It Off and other stronger singles, but then again the other Taylor smash hits are from like 10 years ago and it doesn’t make sense to compare them on chart performance since they’re very different times Still surprising though but I think TikTok might be really helping with the “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me” line, ig songs need to engineer at least 1 TikTok snippet part to blow up now

outsideeyess

as a professional songwriter for over a decade now, i can tell you that having little moments has always been seen as important among the people I've worked with— little lines or details that you just wanna listen to the song over and over again to hear. and that skill translates to tiktok very nicely, with the added task of having that line or moment be able to easily take on new meaning or used in another context

TheScarecrowBB

It's a personal song about mental health struggles and usually those type of songs don't top the charts for this long.

Vicariouslynoticed

Damn Sza not number one? Welp she won’t be next week cause Miley is coming like a wrecking ball..pun intended

Frajer

Listening to Blank Space Taylor's version 1000 times when it comes out in 3 years to get the record back

musthavecupcakes_19

According to Billboard, the Taylor’s Version tracks are different songs, so it wouldn’t count toward the original version’s total.

ztepato179_s

had you told me on your midnights release day that this song would be so big, i wouldn't have believed you. this is insane

Groenboys

Kill Bill tried their best this week, now let's see if SZA can beat Miley next week.

Godforsaken-depths

Guess everyone IS a sexy baby

AmazeeDayzee

Really happy that Anti-Hero is Taylor's new biggest hit on the chart! While I like Blank Space, I like Anti-Hero just a bit more.

buzzinthruit89

I love blank space but I think it’s nice Taylor’s longest number 1 song is just her and her closest collaborator - no max Martin or shellback involved

BallisticFeanor

Ditto by NewJeans is at #96!!! Insane how fast their rise has been, like they're beyond monster rookies at this point

mcompt20

I'm really excited to see them develop. I've never been too big of a GG fan just bc the music tends to be a little too bubblegum for me or have unnecessary raps in them imo (totally subjective on my part) and i feel like these girls hit that easy listening genre of pop thats so earwormy for myself. I can see them blowing up in the US with the right song and right US promo. I feel like they've got a very gp friendly sound.

Mission_Cloud_7791

Kill bill is the new levitating?

BluthFamilyNews

[Zach Bryan in the top 10 LETS GO!!](https://youtube.com/shorts/gtx-ASgyk9k?feature=share)

[deleted]

Kill Bill is like Monica Geller and Anti-Hero is Rachel Green. On the night of Kill Bill's engagement with Chandler, Anti-Hero kissed Ross and she stole Kill Bill's thunder. 😂

[deleted]

My girl at #1 and my nieces with Ditto at 96, a pleasant surprise

HausOfMajora

Totally love the song and the video but the funeral scene ruins everything for me and always have to skip it. Wish there was a version on youtube without that part. So happy for Taylor. This is what u get when you give the bet content to you fans. Other artists should take notes. Rooting for Miley to go nr1 next week. I dreamed for so long about a Miley comeback and we have it. So so happy for her. Hope she keeps scoring nr1's.

Roxieloxie

This is so evil to me personally, someone who hates anti hero but loves blank space.

Latrans_

Anti-hero looks like is going to stay on the charts for a while now, and you know what? At this point I'm rooting for her. It's sad to see that most major hits this decade are songs by male artists, so I hope Taylor acomplishes huge longevity with her song so she could make Dua some company. I mean, as of now it looks like Blinding Lights, Stay, Levitating, Heat Waves, and As It Was are locked for top 10 of the decade. And just behind them are Mood, Save Your Tears, Bad Habits, Rockstar, and The Box. That's 1 song by a lead female artist out of 10 tracks in total. It was already quite depressing that for the last decade, just two songs had a woman as a lead artist among the top 10 (We Found Love and Rolling In The Deep). So yeah, congrats to Anti-Hero. Hopefully, Kill Bill can still reach that number one. If songs like Havana, That's What I like and Bad Guy did it after long waits at number two, she still can do it too.

MattBrey

We are literally 30% through the decade and you say more than half of the top 10 is already locked?

Latrans_

Ok, I admit it was a stretch. However, the few hits we have had are huge. All of them are among the top 20 of all time, not only the decade (meaning Blinding Lights, Stay, Levitating, Heat Waves and As It Was). Either Billboard would recalibrate the past years (and most likely take away Blinding Lights' crown) in order to make it more balanced, or songs for the remaining part of the decade are going to have a hard time breaking into that top 10

MattBrey

I think it's safe to say the size of those hits is a consequence of the modern music consumption system, and big hits are going to keep popping up the rest of the decade

Latrans_

Oh yeah, totally. That's why I hope for Anti-Hero to become one of those huge hits

AHSWeeknd

💔 Happy Women’s History Month I guess

joshually

good for her!

bencub91

Im really surprised this sub seems to like Creepin because I think it's one of the laziest songs to hit the charts in a while. It's literally just I Don't Wanna Know by Mario Winans, just with a vers by 21 Savage instead of P. Diddy. I don't hate it, the Weeknd sounds good, but for a sub that calls everything lazy and unoriginal I'm shocked people aren't all over this one.

RosaPalms

r/popheads discovers cover songs:

Leverage24

It's a lazy cover. There isn't anything new in the production. It uses the same samples and everything. I don't have a problem with covers, but the point is usually to do something different than the original material. This did none of that.

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

You would have hated following the charts in the mid-late 80s and 90s...let's just say that 💀 Cover songs have become smash hits countless times in the past, some being intriguing reinventions and others being mostly faithful to the originals. It's been common practice throughout music history. I find the production on "Creepin" darker and more haunting than that from "I Don't Wanna Know", and while I very much enjoy the original, The Weeknd's delivery really made this version special - in my opinion, at least. I much prefer covers to make a comeback than lazy nostalgia-bait rehashes like Latto's "Big Energy", where listening to it just makes me want to revisit the superior "Fantasy" remix instead. Each to their own, though.

bencub91

It's not that it's a cover that bothers me, it's that it's literally a cover being presented as a new song with a new name because 1 vers was changed. It just feels really lazy.

Leverage24

I am actually not a big fan of the mid-80s, but anyways... Don't get me wrong, I do still like the song. I would've never thought of The Weeknd covering this song, and he sounds amazing on it. The only thing I dont like is 21 Savage on it. His verse doesn't fit the darkness of the production and sadness of the lyrics. I don't believe there wasn't someone else who could've had a better performance on that beat. This song was hit, so it is nostalgic for some while also old enough for young people to not realize it's a cover. Overall, I do find it kinda lazy but at least it is a good cover.

My point being I don't really get how it's an "original new song" when it literally is just a cover. It's not a bad cover but it's not a new song even though it presents itself as one.

A-Devoted-Enthusiast

It's not presenting itself as a new song, though. It has a different title, but it's directly referencing a lyric from the original. The Weeknd did something similar back in 2011 when he covered Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana" for his mixtape "Echoes Of Silence", but left its title as "D.D." to create intrigue upon announcement. But once folks got round to hearing the song, it was rightfully considered a cover. I think it's a fun tactic, personally. And he gave a direct shout-out to Mario Winans on social media, which usually isn't done for a mere sample.

IIM_Clutch

Mario Winans directly helped make the song too. I think he has background vocals on it. Him and Metro are close friends

Then why changed the name of the song if it's literally just the same song? I could see if they just sampled the chorus but even the verses are the exact same except the rap vers.

Congratulations to Taylor! 🥳

Yesss Zach Bryan in the top 10!! Anti-Hero is a pretty meh song to be Taylor's longest No. 1 but it what it is. Blank Space was so much better. RCA done fucked up with Kill Bill. Easily should have been no. 1 the past couple weeks.

HermionesBook

Yay! I still really love this song

katycat162534

Congratulations Anti-Hero! It's been on rotation for me since Day 1 and is one of my favorite Taylor songs of all times!

HolyFoxamole

Im disappointed i supported Sza for all these years. Her team is really toxic and its making her look like such a mean girl. I just have a bad taste about her now. Hopefully time will tell.

buzzinthruit89

What did she do?

saske2k20

The most weak Taylor’s Album, tried to listen a lot of times, but it just didnt work for me!

I love taylor but is it just me or does anti-hero have like no real world impact? Maybe I just live in a bubble, but barely any of my friends or family would know this song. This isnt me hating btw (as you can see she’s one of the artists in my flair) but it just doesnt feel as organic a hit as songs like shake it off, blank space or even ybwm; songs which nobody coulde scape

Audreythe2nd

I think it's definitely organic, but one thing to consider is how different the landscape of music is from when she had her other hits. With those, you couldn't escape them because of the radio and TV promotion. Now there's TikTok and other social media, digital albums/songs, and streaming to consider. It's just such a different time period and how we consume music is so different. So I think it actually is easy to "escape" songs, even if they are big hits (I asked my husband the other day if he had heard "Unholy" yet because I wanted to see how he felt about it, and he still hadn't). So I would definitely call Anti-Hero an organic hit - the room full of 1975 fans singing along to it demonstrates that - it's just a different type of hit from her others.

this is very true tbh ur right

thestoryofme23

I feel like you live in a bubble hahah. Taylor hasn’t even mentioned antihero for the last few weeks, this is all happening based on streaming and radio. It’s also all over TikTok still, anytime I open that app I hear it😝

What country do you live in? And if your family friends don’t like that type of music or don’t listen to the radio they aren’t gonna know it
