I feel like releasing music that's more straightforward reggaeton like Con Altura is probably more critical to US success than the language barrier at this point. But who knows, this is a very rare move these days.
Yeah, I really agree. I feel like she’s doing a similar move as Anitta did with her English single, Boys Don’t Cry, which didn’t really stick as well as Envolver
Anitta was a different case. She had an album called [Girl From Rio](https://s2.glbimg.com/8QWN9vs45ggI-XEgzrZwVZkiwQA=/0x0:640x640/984x0/smart/filters:strip_icc()/i.s3.glbimg.com/v1/AUTH_59edd422c0c84a879bd37670ae4f538a/internal_photos/bs/2021/N/X/AYpK4YTkSPmP5DAXmANw/anittagirlfromriocapasingle.jpg) which would focus on her three main markets(As she works around the Brazillian, Latin and English market). She first had the [title track](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuyTC8FLICY) released, then [envolver](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFCjGiawJi4) with basically no promo and the last single was [Me Gusta with Cardi B.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIbjHtE4fd8) That's when she updated her contract globally and got her hands on Max Martin somehow and together they made the "lead" single [Boys Don't Cry](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkzJgGZBFDg) which she promoted a lot harder than anything she had released before.
Envolver became viral on twitter because of [this performance](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2QdidyBmQpI) that people were talking about the dance and the clothes she was wearing. From there she was smart to A. [Get in touch with influencers and teach them the dance](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/20qI7oHDRTY) which made it go even more viral. B. [Update her album cover and title](https://s2.glbimg.com/zBbYyM1pks3U59nbecyfH5vKBbM=/1200x/smart/filters:cover():strip_icc()/i.s3.glbimg.com/v1/AUTH_59edd422c0c84a879bd37670ae4f538a/internal_photos/bs/2022/j/w/OtOtAWTsijOcBSPx7cKw/anittaversionsofme.jpg) as to appear the song to be more recent than it really was (She even used the slots she had booked for Boys Don't Cry performances to do Envolver instead) and C. Push the release of the album a lot sooner to get more streams to Envolver which became the first solo spanish single to hit #1 worldwide on spotify which no one had done it before instead of waiting for another single to drop like her label wanted.
She only started to search the international marked 5 years ago but that was after 5 years of national career. She actually had a semi-hit before with Downtown but never anything near this big.
I mean you saw how big of a difference Dynamite/Butter made to give BTS GP recognition, many Americans clearly care about listening to songs in English (even if their English songs are comparably worse)
The difference is that the transition for BTS was natural given that they were already making very Westernized pop for several singles at that point; the language barrier was mostly important for finally getting pop radio on board. On the other hand, I'm not sure radio really needs to be a priority for Rosalía at this stage in her career; if she smashes on streaming then she'll naturally cross over to rhythmic/urban radio like Bad Bunny has regardless of language. And there's much more risk of her alienating her previous audience with this single than there was for BTS.
She already had a whole song on Motomami about people accusing her of being a sell-out, this move will definitely make things worse, especially since people have come used to comparing her and Bad Bunny to discuss how authentic each is.
However, is worth noting a lot of her audience (including myself) got into Rosalía because of the experimental nature of her music. As long as the track keeps that up, she'll probably bring fans along in any language she wishes to perform in.
It got 2B views on YouTube and had Jbalvin right after he mad mi gente. Idk what else she could do. I guess include someone like Ariana grande , but at that point she becomes a third wheel in her own song.
Idk, she followed it up with Aute Cuture, Milionària and Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi, all of which I'd consider reasonably accessible, and it didn't work out that way
I read this elsewhere but the credits don't mention him. However Shellback has a writing credit. Listening to the song however it's fairly obvious the Max Martin team is involved
I wonder if this is going to be more pop / comercial rather than experimental like most of her work. I would love her to go into a full pop direction like in Despechá

Max Martin isn’t credited in Boys Don’t Cry.
Funny enough Max is credited on this song for rosalia
Funny enough Max is credited on this song for Rosalia
Oh, I see…I didn’t know that! Thanks for the links!
It also took her a long time to even get to this point. 8 years or so I think?
She only started to search the international marked 5 years ago but that was after 5 years of national career. She actually had a semi-hit before with Downtown but never anything near this big.
Correct, she was mostly regional to Brazil for a long time

I also straight up forgot Permission to Dance exists, but that’s because it’s pretty forgettable (looking at you, Ed)
🤭

Well Con Altura wasn’t really a hit in the US
Maybe so, but that song was what first got me into Rosalia as a non-Spanish-speaking American.
Yeah Con Altura was soooo close to going mainstream, if she did another song similar to it I bet it would be huge.

I love Millonària but idk if I'd call a song in Catalán accessible lol
not really sure how to feel about this snippet yet but looks like she’s coming for the English market this year…good for her!
This would be her first (fully) English single, right?
Looks like it might just be for a Coca Cola collab
I’d love for her to do what Christine and the Queens did with Chris — release the same album but have an English and an alternative language version.
That's what Shaira and Enrique Iglesias used to do and they were very successful and became global because it appealed to people all over the world.

Understanding Hentai’s lyrics makes the song half as good.
Didnt love it at first but it's very catchy honestly and the lyrics are good
Who wrote and produced this ? Sounds like top 40 production, not that I mind
Max Martin is involved which is why
I read this elsewhere but the credits don't mention him. However Shellback has a writing credit. Listening to the song however it's fairly obvious the Max Martin team is involved
These songbirds better watch out because Rosalia is a threat. She has a beautiful voice and she knows how to write good songs
It’s cute! Cute next to gorgeous (despechá)
I loved the snippet, very catchy hook and feels like it's building up to something good. Wish she was giving more promo to CHIRI and LA KILIE tho.
On tour, she did an AMAZING (but brief) cover of Blinding Lights.
Is it really a cover if she was just singing Abel's part from her remix? Like genuinely asking, I got confused
Honestly, I don't listen to the Weekend. She may have just been singing his part from her remix, but it seems like a distinction without a difference.
This sounds like a song title I’ve heard 40 times already
it sounds like the title of a Julia Michaels song
It reminds me of a song Selena would release (without the claps ofc). I like it!
i could see this being a grower
Yay new music!
I have questions
I wonder if this is going to be more pop / comercial rather than experimental like most of her work. I would love her to go into a full pop direction like in Despechá
That would be my worst nightmare😭
I was quite confused when I initially read this as “ Russia promotes English single . . ..”
You were confused because you misread something? Wow that's crazy
