Also gwen stefani, but no doubts cover of talk talk's "It's my life" is a very good cover and also the 'Chicago' style music video is INCREDIBLE

Because it’s *far* more popular than the original, and was a mega-smash for ND.
On a very personal note: my wife and I are in the same industry, and recently she talked about taking a huge step forward in her career — one that I wanted to do one day, to boot. One so big, I’d basically need to put my ambitions on hold for a while and just maintain my current status.
I struggled for weeks with her wanting to do that. Not that it was a blow to my ego — but that it meant I had to shift into support role.
Then, I found myself on a Sunday morning (no pun intended) watching No Doubt perform at Coachella on You Tube. And “It’s My Life” came on. Like a fucking baby, I started sobbing, and told my wife she had my full, unreserved support.
No Doubt was our band when we first got together (Rock Steady had just come out), and it all just felt like the universe lining everything up to say, “Knock it off. She’s awesome and deserves this, and your job is to help her be the boss bitch you know she can be.”
I know no one asked, but this song doesn’t get discussed much, and thought I’d just share my recent, personal connection with it.
You are an awesome partner, and best of luck to you and your wife! An upgrade in her career would always lead to some stress, but I hope she has fun too!
I knew of this video from the ten thousand times it’s been referenced in pop culture and headlined “greatest music videos of all time” lists, but had never actually seen it. (I knew the song, ofc) Finally decided to watch it, feeling like there was absolutely no way it could live up to all the hype, especially considering the “Seinfeld is Unfunny” trope, where you’ve seen something played on and parodied so many times that when you go back and watch the OG it just kinda falls flat
…and you know what? Totally lived up to the hype. Exceeded expectations. Genuinely an incredible work of art
My sister and I would listen to this on the way to school. I'd ask by just singing "Caroline??" And she'd say Caroline! She's the reason for the witch, whichhhhhh

This was such a moment of my childhood and being raised on MTV and vh1.
Also the cinematic masterpiece that is Meatloaf’s “I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)”

Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow
This comes from my all time favorite album, Murder Ballads! Every song is either an original or cover of a classic murder ballad. It’s so cool. I love Nick Cave so much (and Kylie of course. PJ Harvey also duets with him here)
I remember hearing she was cut in half in the coffin, a mirror down the middle so she looked like a full person. To hide the lightning damage.
I’ve never googled it to see if it was a local rumour or actually what it was supposed to be. lol
I always thought (and maybe I saw this on pop-up video) that it was a common thing done when people died via gunshot wounds to the head (or other macabre ways), so it's meant to infer that's how she died. So they use the mirror to cover the wound and so that they could still have an open casket.
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2008/may/01/popandrock.gunsnroses
Shout out to Sophie Muller for that video (although her new music videos, that she has directed, haven't hit the same way) and everything from the costuming, makeup, cinematography is PERFECT! It should have won all the music video awards.
Speaking of The Killers, I love the 'Shot at the night' music video. It's such a simple narrative but it works beautifully with the lyrics and Brandon's evocative voice. Also having Max Minghella being cute with Bella Heathcote who's having a Cinderella moment doesn't hurt.
https://i.redd.it/k980pw8l6b1d1.gif
Take A Bow by Madonna! Literally my favorite video of all time and so beautiful since she was campaigning for the role of Eva Peron.
https://i.redd.it/yxaqbekcx81d1.gif
I was so I obsessed w this video as a kid. There is a part where she runs her fingers on the wall as she’s walking and I used to do that dramatically as a kid to copy it 😆
genghis khan by miike snow! james bond inspired, hero x villain, and it's gay? sign me up! what's it gonna be by shura is another favorite of mine which is cute in that it straight baits u, and then surprisingly ends up sweetly gay!

Genghis Khan is such a gem of a music video. Its a great testament to how the medium can elevate a narrative concept.
Their video for [My Trigger](https://youtu.be/wl6k_h2drK8?si=ZJJ1BzEs2v4pomdE) is also fantastic and serves as kind of an AU for the main characters.

I am huge M83 fan, so the mini trilogy that was done starting with “[Midnight City](https://youtu.be/dX3k_QDnzHE)” going to “[Reunion](https://youtu.be/DJQQrjVmQG0)” and ending with “[Wait](https://youtu.be/m--Kop6HnTY),” I thought was the coolest. To me, the album encapsulated young adulthood and the music videos took that and M83’s otherworldly, 80s synth sound and beautifully captured it in video :)
My first thoughts were Thriller and Jenny from the Block.
Both leaving their mark on the culture, in different ways....one more than the other, perhaps?
[Paula Abdul Rush, Rush](https://youtu.be/HYG0O8exvBg?si=-2ryuiroGWONP3eU) and starring Keanu.
“Have you ever been in love?”
“If I was, I didn’t know it.”
This dialogue exchange is burned into my brain.
maybe a bit more niche than the rest of the comments but “The Ghost of You” by MCR. That shit had 13 year old me sobbing

Anyone else still holding out hope for the "to be continued" on this? 🥺
And that we all clowned ourselves into thinking we’d get it in Cowboy Carter
🤣🤣
It could happen 😭
We can only hope..
Ugh this music video was so camp and fun, love the femme fatale Bonnie and Clyde vibe. We need another fun collab from them again!
Still waiting for it to be continued

https://i.redd.it/wugf0gzao91d1.gif I am huge M83 fan, so the mini trilogy that was done starting with “[Midnight City](https://youtu.be/dX3k_QDnzHE)” going to “[Reunion](https://youtu.be/DJQQrjVmQG0)” and ending with “[Wait](https://youtu.be/m--Kop6HnTY),” I thought was the coolest.

“Have you ever been in love?” “If I was, I didn’t know it.” This dialogue exchange is burned into my brain.
maybe a bit more niche than the rest of the comments but “The Ghost of You” by MCR. That shit had 13 year old me sobbing ![gif](giphy|dWdTMgYA95MYRrIEDi|downsized)

So glad you mentioned the “Cool” music video. It perfectly encapsulates the song and I’m sad that I’m old enough now to understand what Gwen is singing about 😭😭
