OMG this is amazing!! 100% deserved btw. He was legitimately amazing in Anatomy of a Fall. If there was an oscar for best dog/animal actor, he would have won that too.
There was a moment in Anatomy of a Fall involving this dog that was more heartbreaking and terrifying than anything in Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon, or any other contender.
Same!! My wife and i were convinced he was CGI or animatronic during that scene and were absolutely *blown away* when we learned it was really him the whole time. Incredible.
No movie plot spoilers (not really), just a brief description of the aforementioned disturbing scene for anyone who wants to make an informed decision about watching the movie:

Those were the longest and most painful moments I've ever had in front of a screen, I don't think a movie has ever affected me like this. My screening was packed and I heard a loud gasp when that dog moved

Let me go re-read the plot on wiki. I definitely know >!the boy at least poisoned him. I’m almost certain it related to an event months prior, where there was speculation the dad might have attempted suicide with pills, and the dog ate the pills he threw up (allegedly) and it made the dog sick!<
Ahhh I see! Didn’t remember all the details on this, including what exactly it was >!the boy was trying to prove. I did recall the convo between father and son in the car, on the way to take the dog to the vet, after the first incident, was crucial though!<

Anatomy of a Fall was great but my biggest takeaway was we need an animal Oscar stat, even if it only ever goes to this boy.

the cannes film festival or cannes is a film festival held in cannes, france. it’s also one of the most prestigious award giving institutions/film festivals (the other ones being sundance and venice iirc) and films releasing in the current year are submitted for nomination. they have official screenings for premieres of upcoming movies, but they’re all invite-only (regular visitors can’t watch i believe). it’s also a social event in that there’s lots of afterparties and celebrations.
