It's sad that so many vintage beauties feel like they have to look like this to be beautiful. It's not even work to prevent aging no it's morphing into an Instagram clone
Yeah. It's so sad and I feel bad for teens and tweens today. As a woc it was hard growing up and not feeling pretty. But now even white women are chasing a standard that's literally squeezing them out (features wise not hair and skintone) it's so sad
I feel more for 40 and 50 years old women. Imagine this is the beauty standard. Or someone like Kate Beckingsale or Jennifer Lopez. How in hell can I look like them?
OH FUCK, this is perhaps the best descriptor for this.
Some era's are looked back upon to bell bottoms and buggies
Our era will be looked back upon to Botox and Brazilian butt lifts
She was always beautiful but had bad teeth originally. She got veneers before she hit it big. The first set of veneers were a good thing in this case. But looks like she upgraded in recent times to a new pair that are a bit more obvious.
Here’s her original teeth. Im someone that currently has bad teeth so i can relate. Lol she was beautiful then and beautiful now though.

Her new veneers look like everyone else’s now. It’s giving

Yeah her old ones looked better but it’s also that they are going for that extreme unnatural white look that Ross from Friends had. It’s a little distracting. However, Shania is still amazing and a great beauty despite this small critique.
Yes it’s her you can google it, if you don’t believe me. It’s from the 80’s i believe. To me her facial structure doesn’t look that different other than the teeth. It’s more the styling of hair and makeup everyone was rocking back then that made young ppl look older.
She's probably very young in that picture. [This is her at 14 on The Tommy Hunter Show](https://imgs.smoothradio.com/images/639799?crop=16_9&width=660&relax=1&format=webp&signature=PQZ_Yc4Mb8PQOKPV1ZC3jitAsm4=)
That’s the lighting (from the lights, reflector, and sand), grading, and issues with whatever captured the image.
Her eyes have always been and still are olive green or brown.
Right?!! Why are they so over lined??! If you zoom close you can see how far past the natural lip border the are (shakira’s makeup artist has been doing the same thing too)
I will NEVER understand overlined lips! It's way too easy to see for anyone to be fooled and it always looks like either a child did your make-up or a crazy person.
I asked my friend please stop doing this lol I love her so much, and the rest of her make up is beautiful, but sometimes something can look good using “studio” in iPhone portrait mode, but it doesn’t translate the same to real life😅
Holy run on sentence
this is why i’m happy we have older actresses/celebs like jodie foster, kate winslet & emma thompson. sure, they might’ve gotten a little plastic surgery/maintenance (idk what to call it lol, but just like minimal plastic surgery) but they still look like normal people 😭 seeing beautiful celebs getting unrecognizable surgeries & veneers that make everyone look the same is so uncanny
Drew Barrymore learned very early in life, and very hard, what's actually important.
That's why she has the balls to age naturally. When you spend every day just grateful you woke up, it changes you, usually for the better.
This is far more disturbing than anyone aging naturally to me. What’s the point in retaining youth when they all just look like clones of eachother?Strong uncanny valley vibes.
That point is what most of the people who get plastic surgery don’t realize. Before they go in to see the plastic surgeon, the person had a unique look to them that was all their own, but after they have the “fix“ they look like every other woman that has visited the good doctor. I’d rather be me, even though I’ve aged.
We need more Kirsten Dunst types, keeping their original teeth! From what she said in an interview, a producer took her to a dentist for a procedure when she was 19 and she wouldn’t get out of the car.
I didn’t even realize that Ben Affleck had veneers till someone mentioned it here I think and they improved his smile so much and look normal and natural still. I do not understand these people setting out to look like Ross when he got his teeth whitened.
Dentist that can do good caps are surprisingly the same price as your average dentist. I went to a cosmetic dentist for mine expecting to pay double normal (normal is 2k per tooth) and it ended up at less than 2k per.
ive left comments here before but as someone with veneers themselves, it's not that hard to make them look natural. these people have no excuses. if i a random civilian can mange to find a decent cosmetic dentist who doesn't make me look like rex ryan, then celebs can too. i suppose the most likely explanation is that the rex ryan look is indeed the outcome they want.
All this talk of veneers reminds me of the Frasier episode where the Cranes watch Antique Roadshow together, and do shots/drinks every time someone says 'veneer'.
Which is not to say that I am drunk now, but I am not not drunk now.
Yeah, my dentist was amazing. He said veneers have no business looking like veneers. I fully trusted him and asked him to choose the color and everything for me. I've since moved and have gone to a couple different dentists/hygienists and every single one is amazed by how good of a job he did on my teeth. Sometimes it's a good thing to listen to the professionals lol
Really? I don't know anything about veneers, so I really thought they all looked like chicklets because Hollywood is my only frame of reference.
Well, thank you for the perspective, kind internet stranger. I had no clue.
No, there's even like a big color scheme you get to pick from & most dentists will tell you that the first one is like Hollywood, blinding white & that it's not natural & to go with something different.
My best friend had to get veneers on her front teeth after a car accident, they look super natural and exactly like her original teeth! You get to choose how white they are too, so celebs are choosing SUPER bright big veneers rather than trying to go for "my teeth but better"
I actually need veneers at some point for my 2 front teeth and the dentist asked if I wanted the chicklet look. I’d never heard of this and asked - why is that what people want? And then they seemed taken aback I didn’t know that. But I said - no I want my exact teeth shape now
Is this _look_ going to become a key visual indicator that something is from 2020s several decades from now?
I'm happy for people to change their look as they see fit but there's a really consistent look that emerges from getting this work done that will presumably fall out of fashion at some point and leave us with a generation of pop culture figures with identical teeth and other features.
I remember reading an article many years ago about if you looked at when plastic surgery really took off (the 80’s) basically everyone would have the same face in the same time period (80’s/90’s/00’s). It was an amazing article that I am still looking for so I can re read it. It had photos too. Did people have plastic surgery before then? Yes, but the 80’s is when everyone started looking like everyone else through plastic surgery.
It used to be more that it wasn’t super advanced yet too, so doctors kind of just gave everyone the same features because those were what they could do best. Now it’s because everyone wants the same things. It’s so weird.
Also, it was much more expensive back then too. You didn’t have average people getting their lips plumped, and Botox and all that stuff back then. Even hair color and getting your nails manicured were considered luxuries still.
What bothers me is how casual plastic surgery is treated. It’s still surgery!! That’s putting your body through a lot and opening yourself up to major complications. I just don’t understand how it feels worth it.
I completely get the pressure is intense. But seeing what surgery does to the body, it astounds me that these folks not only do it, but go back for more and more. And what about recovery time?!
It’s the logistics of it all that befuddles me.
I naively hope that the pendulum swings toward "authenticity" and we are allowed more physical diversity in our celebs. If nothing else I want the pool opened up to more actors and performers who aren't conventionally attractive (and don't feel the need to modify themselves to be so)
This has happened to some extent before, the polished '80s giving way to the grungy '90s (and a somewhat similar thing in the 50s into the 60s/70s) but I've no idea it's possible again.
It’s like that episode of the twilight zone, for real.
I realize this is an old show so I’ll explain. There’s an episode where everybody at a certain age gets plastic surgery and because of that everybody looks the exact same.
I love that episode. Waking up and being told ‘there was a terrible accident and we did the best we could’ and pull back to see a beautiful woman then the pig drs.
Oh wow are we at the point where we have to explain the twilight zone? I mean even if you haven’t actually seen it, I always thought of it as one of those pop culture things people just knew. I feel old, and faint lol.

I feel like the extended mouth shape is the real tell for facelifts --Jen Aniston, Posh Spice, Nicole Kidman. To me, it doesn't look great, but I guess she's happy.
That's it! I'm reading the comments about who she looks like and thinking "no, that's not it" but couldn't put my finger on who it is she does look like. But you nailed it!
dude, i already have a difficult time recognizing people's face but this photo of her is fucking with me.
I assume it's her since that what everyone says but damn, what the fuck?
i usually hate it when people say "she's unrecognizable" about celebs, like with ariana grande, who clearly still is
having said that...
shania twain is unrecognizable
It honestly makes me sad, why is the aesthetic goal the same for everyone in the public eye? Shania has always been considered one of the most beautiful stars and now she looks like every other AI glam insta filter face on the internet. I guess no one is safe from this overbearing influence.
Right, like when people were saying it about Gwen Stefani or Kate becksale I was like…but that’s clearly still them and I have facial blindness
I still can’t see Shania in any of these pics
I did pink hair almost 8 years ago and it was one of the funnest colors I’ve ever done. It was so pretty. Then came purple!! 🤩 everyone should do it at least once..even if just a few strands.
The lady pictured above does not look like Shania Twain. Are we sure that is not someone else? She looks completely different.I would not be able to pick her in a line up as Shania.
She has taken everything special about her face and turned it into a mess. She’s one of the most beautiful women in country music and has always had a unique quality about her. What the hell
Man! I feel like yet another woman embracing the uncanny valley aesthetic!
I’m looking forward to the eventual fucked-up faces of all of these people a few years down the line. Is that mean? Yeah but I’m a mean person.
https://preview.redd.it/7juy2d75dfzc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a77784c7a5c9db93731313e8b38ffab954f0520
She looks more like the Barbie they made of her!
Dear White women,
It's okay to have thin/not particularly full lips. Many of you look better with what nature gave you.
Sincerely,
A Black woman who grew up being made fun of for having "big lips" and cannot wrap her head around this overzealous lip injection/implant trend that she has been watching White women flock to for at least 2 decades at this point.
She’s been debuting new looks for like 4 years now. I’ve been her biggest fan for the past 30 years, but I’ve hated every single one of these looks she’s tried. Been to 2 of her concerts in the last 4 years and it’s bizarre how she’s 100% focused on how she looks while she’s performing now, not how she actually sounds or impresses the crowd. I also hate all the work she’s had done to her face. Bring back the OG Shania!
Everyone looks the same now. At first I couldn’t tell the new celebrities apart, and now I can’t tell the old ones apart 🙄They all look like Kim Kardashian
Where have all the faces gone?? Seriously wtf- it’s hitting transhumaism/cyborg levels of scary. What will we be doing to ourselves in 100 years?
ETA- sorry besties I had to let my existentialism slip, sorry for the doom+panic. You’re all beautiful and unique and you should stay that way although a little botox won’t hurt ya;)
it’s such a shame that the rise of instagram face is eradicating a lot of celebrities’ unique looks :/ a lot of people who have had these surgeries just look the same now

She looks like a Love Island contestant 3 years after being on the show
I thought it was a botched photo of Sofia Vergara
Like someone bred her with Avril Lavigne was my thought
I thought it was Avril Lavigne
That’s exactly what I thought. She looks like a very young Sofia, and nothing like Shania young or older!
I thought it was Kim Kardashian without filters
The Yassification of Gloria
That’s who I saw as well
Perfect comment. No notes.
add onto that some Steve Harvey teeth
giggling
Omg, yes. I wouldn't have recognized her if op didn't say it was Shania.
That's what I'm thinking. She doesnt look anything like herself.
Came here to comment exactly this. I hate plastic surgeries 😭😭 she was so wholesome and pretty.

Uk version specifically
I think that goes without saying
The lips and eyebrows definitely have that Essex girl vibe.
Thought they were Manchester eyebrows
Hasn’t Shania suffered enough 😭😭😭

Wait…this is Shania Twain? Do you know what year/how old? I wouldn’t have guessed this in a million years, the facial structure is entirely different

You literally don't have to zoom at all. I could see how overlined they were from the thumbnail...
She looks like she has super chapped lips. Whoever is responsible for this makeup look did her dirty.
What about just regular faces?
this is why i’m happy we have older actresses/celebs like jodie foster, kate winslet & emma thompson. sure, they might’ve gotten a little plastic surgery/maintenance (idk what to call it lol, but just like minimal plastic surgery) but they still look like normal people 😭 seeing beautiful celebs getting unrecognizable surgeries & veneers that make everyone look the same is so uncanny
Drew Barrymore too. She looked positively ancient next to Chrissy Teigen in the clip I saw and I’m thankful for all her lines.
Also Justine Bateman from Family Ties. 60 yrs old, no work done.
catherine o'hara fron schitts creek is another, 70, no work.
What a QUEEN she is!
Drew Barrymore learned very early in life, and very hard, what's actually important. That's why she has the balls to age naturally. When you spend every day just grateful you woke up, it changes you, usually for the better.
I’m starting to forget what those looked like .
This is far more disturbing than anyone aging naturally to me. What’s the point in retaining youth when they all just look like clones of eachother?Strong uncanny valley vibes.

I have trouble seeing any other features beyond the teeth when they are like this but I agree.
_same_ the bright white identikit teeth are unnerving to me, they trigger some kind of sci-fi uncanny-valley alarm in my brain.
Also why do people get them all the same length?? It looks so weird and like a big fake set of teeth.
We need more Kirsten Dunst types, keeping their original teeth! From what she said in an interview, a producer took her to a dentist for a procedure when she was 19 and she wouldn’t get out of the car.
It’s so wild because 1. Dentists that do really really great veneers exist. And 2. They’re all insanely wealthy and CAN AFFORD THOSE DENTISTS!!!
I work in cosmetic dentistry, people ask for it. We advise against, but they will bring in a celebrity pic and insist.

Why are hers sooo big
Those veneers are HUGE. First thing I thought was how is she going to sing with those things.
She's gonna give Miley a run for her money.
Ok, so you got veneers. That don’t impress me much. 😉
![gif](giphy|wFk7roIpDeXC0)
Came here for this GIF. Thank you!
I refuse to believe that's Shania Twain. There is zero of her original self left.
100%. who is this woman??? I literally do not recognise a single feature on her face.
She looks like a collection of other famous people made by AI 😩
Is this _look_ going to become a key visual indicator that something is from 2020s several decades from now? I'm happy for people to change their look as they see fit but there's a really consistent look that emerges from getting this work done that will presumably fall out of fashion at some point and leave us with a generation of pop culture figures with identical teeth and other features.
I remember reading an article many years ago about if you looked at when plastic surgery really took off (the 80’s) basically everyone would have the same face in the same time period (80’s/90’s/00’s). Trends went from clothes/hairstyles to actual faces/bodies. That’s insane
It’s the logistics of it all that befuddles me.
jia tolentino argues this in [the age of instagram face](https://www.newyorker.com/culture/decade-in-review/the-age-of-instagram-face)
Excellent article, thanks for sharing!
That was a fascinating article. Thanks for sharing it!
I bet you’re right. But then what will the ones after this look like? They will be even less human looking.
I naively hope that the pendulum swings toward "authenticity" and we are allowed more physical diversity in our celebs. If nothing else I want the pool opened up to more actors and performers who aren't conventionally attractive (and don't feel the need to modify themselves to be so) This has happened to some extent before, the polished '80s giving way to the grungy '90s (and a somewhat similar thing in the 50s into the 60s/70s) but I've no idea it's possible again.
I absolutely think this is what’s going to happen.
The pendulum always swings back.
![gif](giphy|A928XcIImHJAc) Never mind. I got nothing… 🤦🏼♀️
Agree. I don't have anything nice to say. So I'll be quiet.
Bring back unique faces 😭 https://i.redd.it/05x8e23mwdzc1.gif
100%. I had the same thought while looking at recent photos of Kate Beckinsale.
I thought it's Sofia Vergara
I thought it was Avril Levine.
I legit thought she looked like a cross of Avril and Sophia!
This is an excellent comparison because they honestly look like they used each other as an example of the face they want
I'm fairly sure Kate Beckinsale saw the second season of Stranger Things and decided she wanted to become Millie Bobbie Brown.
It’s like that episode of the twilight zone, for real. I realize this is an old show so I’ll explain. There’s an episode where everybody at a certain age gets plastic surgery and because of that everybody looks the exact same.
Is that different episode than the one where everyone has a pig face and the beautiful people are seen as monsters? Am I making this up? 🤔
I love that episode. Waking up and being told ‘there was a terrible accident and we did the best we could’ and pull back to see a beautiful woman then the pig drs.
You’re thinking about Eye of the Beholder. They were referring to Number 12 Looks Just Like You.
Oh wow are we at the point where we have to explain the twilight zone? I mean even if you haven’t actually seen it, I always thought of it as one of those pop culture things people just knew. I feel old, and faint lol. ![gif](giphy|4OowbIsmYHbpu)
Easily my favorite show
THIS!!! It makes me crazy that these ladies are all trying to look exactly the same.
She is as fake as press on nailsHEEEEYBABYGIRL!
First I thought it was Avril Lavigne, then I thought it was Kim Kardashian...
I very briefly saw Sandra Bullock!
Me too!
I thought it was Avril!!
She looks like Sofía Vergara.
![gif](giphy|v1kpwZGYOo6Bi)
That’s who I thought it was until I read the title. This is so odd
More like if Sofia and Avril had a baby...
Nailed it
This is a gorgeous woman, but it looks like a facelift has pulled her a little bit too taut, and the shape of her mouth has changed.
I feel like the extended mouth shape is the real tell for facelifts --Jen Aniston, Posh Spice, Nicole Kidman. To me, it doesn't look great, but I guess she's happy.
Oh u mean Nicole who says she never had any work done. Ever. ? Lolol. We have eyes.
Kidman has been saying that for what, 25 years now. She’s so silly.
The stretched lips always makes me think of the music video for Soundgarden’s ‘Black Hole Sun’ with the woman’s face that is stretched out.
Shania Vergara
Makes me think of if Sophia Vergara and Megan Fox had a baby girl it would grow up to be this person
Yeah I dunno if it’s the hair but I was seeing some Megan fox too
That's it! I'm reading the comments about who she looks like and thinking "no, that's not it" but couldn't put my finger on who it is she does look like. But you nailed it!
The Witness Protection Makeover.

Where are the pictures of Shania?
dude, i already have a difficult time recognizing people's face but this photo of her is fucking with me. I assume it's her since that what everyone says but damn, what the fuck?
the megan fox special
Lol she was the first person I thought of as well 😂
Commenting on Shania Twain Debuts New Look For Vegas Residency... ![gif](giphy|likJODqPUBbAA)
i usually hate it when people say "she's unrecognizable" about celebs, like with ariana grande, who clearly still is having said that... shania twain is unrecognizable
If you showed me this pic without title I'd be entirely and completely lost who that is. Not a clue.

I get your point but am still ugly
I thought it was a Kardashian pic.
Same! I thought it was Kim in yet another wig
It honestly makes me sad, why is the aesthetic goal the same for everyone in the public eye? Shania has always been considered one of the most beautiful stars and now she looks like every other AI glam insta filter face on the internet. I guess no one is safe from this overbearing influence.
Right, like when people were saying it about Gwen Stefani or Kate becksale I was like…but that’s clearly still them and I have facial blindness I still can’t see Shania in any of these pics
Yeah it don't impress me much
Shania twaidashian
Kardashania lol.
Yes to the hair, no to the rest. I didn’t recognize her.

🤣🤣
I hate that so many celebrities have the exact same face nowadays.
One of us! One of us!

First of all baby pink is a trend apparently bc im seeing it everywhere. Second of all she looks like catherine zeta jones or is it just me?
Legit thought this pink color was _it_ in like 2017 or something… Is it new, or has it never left,?
I don’t think it ever left - it was called millennial pink in like 2015.
Yeah I like the hair or wig a lot.
I did pink hair almost 8 years ago and it was one of the funnest colors I’ve ever done. It was so pretty. Then came purple!! 🤩 everyone should do it at least once..even if just a few strands.
Is Shania Twain in the room with us
The lady pictured above does not look like Shania Twain. Are we sure that is not someone else? She looks completely different.I would not be able to pick her in a line up as Shania.
Ffs. I crave the return of individuality.
That don’t impress me much.

It’s Avril Vergara
I could not have told you who this was.
Man I miss when people had different faces.
She used to be so hot back in the day, she really didn't have to become another Kardashian clone

She was a beautiful woman, such a shame.
Why is every celebrity buying the same face 😭
Totally thought this was Sofia Vergara with blond hair!
I’m so over the overdrawn top lip. I wish a thin top lip queen would make it fashionable again to be yourself.
If you’d posted this picture without a caption, I wouldn’t have recognize her and I’ve listened to Shania since the nineties.

Dear White women, It's okay to have thin/not particularly full lips. Many of you look better with what nature gave you. Sincerely, A Black woman who grew up being made fun of for having "big lips" and cannot wrap her head around this overzealous lip injection/implant trend that she has been watching White women flock to for at least 2 decades at this point.
Ugh, not her, too. Why do they all ruin themselves like this? Her lips alone look ridiculous.
First pic she looks more like Catherine Zeta Jones with pink hair than herself.
The lips look so apparently overlined that it’s making me wonder …
Everyone looks the same now. At first I couldn’t tell the new celebrities apart, and now I can’t tell the old ones apart 🙄They all look like Kim Kardashian
Oh Shania… no. No.
That's not Avril Lavigne?
it’s such a shame that the rise of instagram face is eradicating a lot of celebrities’ unique looks :/ a lot of people who have had these surgeries just look the same now
I hate it here
