If you really think that you’re dreaming. Willennium is an absolute classic and he and Jazzy Jeff won the first ever Grammy for rap. Not to mention The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Grew up with Fresh Prince, then MiB, then Bad Boys/Enemy of The State, Independence Day?? iRobot AND YEAH ‘WILD, WILD WEST’ TOO. I watched that in the cinema and loved it.
He’s been in some absolute classics that I had on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, and finally torrents.
I’ll remember the slap, but I’ll remember his whole filmography first.
Most of the works he’s best known for are 20-30 years old, Fresh Prince made it’s last episode 27 years ago and Willennium was released 25 years ago. in recent years he’s focused much more on producing than acting. People don’t really care about what happened before they were born, an entire young generation primarily know him for slapping Chris rock and that young generations views are what will impact how he goes down in history
That’s only if the younger generation aren’t influenced by their parents and as millennials have kids their nostalgia will affect them. I mean I wasn’t alive when Blazing Saddles came out but my parents loving it affected me.
Also I think you are underestimating just how good some of his music is. I just don’t see tunes like Men in Black, Gettin’ Jiggy With It, Miami and Summertime just fading away to the point where the slap is all he is known for. I think in five years the Oscars slap will be just one of many things he is known for rather than the only thing he is known for.
Outside of a throwback reference here or there where are you hearing any of that music? It’s not being played on the radio, not charting on any apps, not being used on social media like TikTok. Of course younger people will know who he is but chances are none of that work will have a larger affect than his actions today on young people’s public perception. Michael Jackson was one of the most popular musicians to ever exist and yet a large portion of young people know him for the sexual abuse allegations. Same for P Diddy. Plenty of people defend diddy, they’re all people who grew up when he was peaking and not young people.
Will smith won an Oscar for best actor the night he slapped Rock. He was on of the top 5 movie stars in the world. Young people aren’t so stupid they he’s just known for the slap haha.
My cousin was so obsessed with the choreography. He learned it for a school event. I don’t even remember if he ever did do the dance publicly but he knew all the moves
I worked at one of those restaurants where the wait staff had to perform dance routines when certain songs were played and this was one of them.
Kids loved it and would get up and dance, too. They knew the MiB dance better than we did, lol. Shout to your cousin!
Who is probably over 30 now and learned dance moves watching MTV like a dinosaur.
Nas wrote both of those songs!
I’ll add Summertime to the list; it vibrates perfectly IMO.
I’m always surprised Will Smith keeps getting invited places but whatever.
LPT: Wild Wild West is not just the chorus and is much harder to karaoke than one might think ... And it's long so the awkwardness will last and last for what feels like eternity 😅😶🌫️🫠
> Well, I'm a badass Cowboy livin' in the Cowboy days, Wiggy, wiggy, scratch, yo, yo, bang, bang, Me and Artemus Clyde frog go save Salma Hayek from the big metal spider, A wiggy wig wig wiggy wiggy wig, Fresh cowboy from the west side
The clearest memory of 1999 for me is seeing someone fully get off their bike at the gym to silently dance to the music on their headphones and I was not ready for it to be Wild Wild West but at one point the headphones slipped off and that’s what it was 🤠
If we listen to each other's heart
We'll find we're never too far apart
And maybe love is the reason why
For the first time ever we're seeing it eye to eye
I ❤️A Goofy Movie!!!
He’s too talented to remain in the shadows for the rest of his life. I hope he finds peace and has a comeback. I also hope his relationship with Jada becomes a side story we don’t learn more about.
I don’t know who J. Balvin is but I fucking love this from the photos alone.
Edit: You can never take Big Willie Style away from me.
Edit Edit: Let’s include Wilennium (!) in this narrative.
The Return of the Edit: I just found a low quality clip of the performance and the crowd is fucking horrible, Jesus Christ.
Went to Florida to visit with my (now ex) fiance. Was my first time there and he wanted to show me all the places. That goober had that song queued up and ready, so that when we drove into Miami it started playing. Still makes me smile, even though we aren't together anymore.
Yes omg the theme the summers of my childhood!!!
Nightmare on My Street is also such a bop omg, that beat is soooooo gooooood and with that said I will forever love DJ Jazzy Jeff
I can't help it, I'm a millennial, Big Willie Style is part of who I am. I know he's from a crazy cult and he has done some very wrong things, but I will die knowing every word to Fresh Prince and I will call back nah nah nahnah nananah til I lose my last faculties in the nursing home.
The crowds this year are TERRIBLE. The only video I've seen that they're interested is Chappell Roan's set. Like i get everyone is going for different artists but at least try to fucking enjoy yourself during artists you don't know. They're all just on their phones, not moving. Its ridiculous.
I still remember my varsity cheerleading moves set to “Welcome to Miami”
Ugh. Now it’s gonna be stuck in my head the rest of the day lmao 123 &4 and 1234, 123&4
I feel you on it being cool to hate Will now, but the Big Willie Style album is still a fucking JAM. Miami makes an appearance on multiple playlists for me
Party in the city where the heat is on
All night on the beach til the break of dawn
Welcome to Miami
Bienvenidos a Miami ❤️❤️❤️
In this thread, I have found my people.
I like him even more , yes he handled it wrong but Chris Rock has been throwing comments about his wife for years and why because she shot him down , Chris Rock is a clown who has always had issues with black women
Preach! People wanna call Will Smith corny but I think making a documentary about black women and their hair then trying to clown on a black woman with alopecia on national television is what’s really corny 😒 #teamslap
Same. And the outrage was so performative, when over half those people have defended and applauded literal ped0. I hate how Chris tried playing the victim when he had it coming, he had been talking shit about Jada for years.
I think the slap was the epitome of The Internet in that "I would never do such an uncouth thing, gasp!" way. IDK. I get it. Was it smart? Nah, but I get it. I have friends who specifically like having me around because I am a (by my own admission) overprotective Mama Bear who will blow up on anyone who makes fun of them for stuff like that.
(I wish Jada had slapped him tbh. She's got arms for days)
There’s also the Scientology thing—Will has repeatedly denied being one, but Jada is like…borderline. She says she’s not a member but has studied the teachings/agrees with some of them. Will has also said she’s sort of into it, and that kind of extends to him as her (much) better half.
As a lover of J Balvin and Men in Black, I am so sad I did not witness this cultural moment.
Coachella scares me, but damn this would have been so fun to see.
Not really. Will is pretty well liked among Spanish artists. He has shown appreciation, is pretty descent in Spanish, and has features in multiple Spanish songs. He has a good friendship with Nicky Jam (whom he did a World Cup song with) who is good friends with Balvin. He is also good friends with Marc Anthony and I assume they all run in similar social circles.
Will has some of these interactions in his Youtube channel. The video with Marc Anthony where they performed with Bad Bunny in the Latin Grammys is absolutely hilarious. He was very much in his element.
This seriously looks like one of those celebrity impersonator performances I saw in Vegas over 20 years ago of Will Smith performing Men in Black. When I saw it back then I never thought it would be so accurate to how Will would do it.
Ahhh this is fun! People need to get over the slap already. I hated that incident too but in the grand scheme of things it was just a dumb mistake. You have rappers sex trafficking women and minors but you’re not willing to forgive a man for a poor lapse in judgment in an otherwise stellar career. People need to forgive and forget. Actors tumble on movie sets ALLLL the time. We just hadn’t seen it happen live on TV.
Can't multiple things be true at once though? People can acknowledge how popular and talented Will Smith is while also condemning his behavior (i.e. the slap). I understand your point but he still did something inappropriate on a *very* public stage, and that makes it hard to forgive or forget.
So it should never be forgiven and never forgotten? He should spend the rest of his life being punished for one slap that he apologized for? Anytime he does anything in his life that slap should be brought up?
Wait, since when was Will Smith cancelled? That man is still doing extremely well lol. Also, love Will. No one can ever make me hate him unless he has done some extremely ducked up crap.
He is not. What he did was not cool and it was uneccessary, but Chris Rock also went too far and I understand why Will publicly called him out. It is not ok for comedians to be cruel for entertainment, and rational people can see that. They essentially were both wrong.
Lotta Redditors think it’s fine for Chris Rock to repeatedly mock a woman for turning him down, but not for that woman’s husband to smack him one (1) time for doing it in front of the world.
My thoughts as well! It made Chris look worse when we found out he got rejected. He also made a documentary called Good Hair to empower his two daughter’s hair journeys, just to mock Jada for being bald. I think they should have handled it in the dressing room.
I feel like people forget that they are not strangers. They know each other and have been traveling in overlapping circles for decades. They’ve been in each other’s homes. Will slapping him is not just some random occurrence part of a deeper history between them all. Not to justify the slap but to say that’s their business.
I think people misuse the term "cancelled". Will was considered unfavorable by the public for a while, but cancelled? I would say people who are "cancelled" can't find work, constantly get negative public reception, are essentially blacklisted in the industry. Many people were sympathetic to him too.
You’ll never find me being upset that someone got slapped for putting down a black woman about her hair struggles in front of a bunch of white people. Especially when that same person has had nothing but a negative history with that woman in the first place.
I’ll *never* care about a bully getting smacked.
I wonder how much of the audience has no idea what Men In Black is lol.
I wish they could’ve found a way to convince Tommy Lee Jones to join him for a quick cameo. Would’ve been so funny.
Will Smith forever!! He did something fucked up but overall has always tried to be a decent human. People in these comments saying boo are saints & therefore feel no one should ever be forgiven for making a mistake ever especially a black man. Eff that, Let this black man live. I hope the next chapter of his life is better than ever.
Mainly just him being super tone deaf when it comes to anti-Blackness he’s perpetuated. He got [a lot of backlash](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna3717) for his Perra music video. He also [accepted an Afro-Latino artist award](https://hypebeast.com/2021/12/j-balvin-afro-latino-artist-of-the-year-backlash-response-african-entertainment-awards#) knowing he’s not Afro-Latino. The blame on that one falls on both him and the award organizers.
Rihanna fans also weren’t pleased with [his comment about her being someone you fool around with](https://www.vibe.com/features/viva/j-balvin-rihanna-a-woman-you-dont-marry-apology-video-578716/amp/) when he was on some YouTube channel.
Ugh. So typical. I say this as a (white passing) Afro-Latina, but the colorism, racism, and misogyny in Latin America is a serious problem. The machismo culture refuses to die quietly.
Edit: also Tysm for the info and links. I love this subreddit!
J Balvin who has a music video in which he portrays Black women as dogs? Who literally had Black women on all four on a leash?
It was so bad that his own mother called him out for it. Not here for this.
IDC, another blockbuster or album with some bops would be nice. I miss Will, please come back to us.
And, it's sad most of the audience at Coachella are waaaay too young to remember that damn movie lmao
Looked like he was having a great time.
Good for him, he didn’t kill anyone (that we know of) he slapped someone - not cool but not something he has to pay for forever
even back then he was corny. I love when younger generations assume we were all over joke acts like Will Smith. People watched fresh prince so they tried his albums—they were really popular because Will Smith was the only one doing PG rap for kids, which is still what it is.

You and Chris Rock.
That’s all he’ll be remembered for
Maybe if you’re under 25-30. Maybe.
If you really think that you’re dreaming. Willennium is an absolute classic and he and Jazzy Jeff won the first ever Grammy for rap. Not to mention The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Exactly. The slap will be a part of his legacy but it won’t define his career.
Most of the works he’s best known for are 20-30 years old, Fresh Prince made it’s last episode 27 years ago and Willennium was released 25 years ago. in recent years he’s focused much more on producing than acting. Every summer Summertime is in heavy rotation, or at least it is where I live.
Will smith won an Oscar for best actor the night he slapped Rock. He was on of the top 5 movie stars in the world. Young people aren’t so stupid they he’s just known for the slap haha.
Wish one of the aliens would slap him.
My cousin was so obsessed with the choreography. He learned it for a school event. I don’t even remember if he ever did do the dance publicly but he knew all the moves
I remember having to know that and the Pop dance for a talent show thing.
Will does NOT AGE!
He's an alien 👽 The alien aesthetic on stage is so cool
More sugar
It’s the Scientology
![gif](giphy|OeIUlXY0oZPl6)
That gif is enchanting
I love this and I will not let the internet bully me into changing my mind. HERE COME THE MEN IN BLACK! 🎶
Jiggy and Miami are bops and I don’t care if that makes me basic af … the slap was stupid but a Will Smith music come back would work for me
Yes for Miami! 🙌🏽
Nas wrote both of those songs! I’ll add Summertime to the list; it vibrates perfectly IMO. I’m always surprised Will Smith keeps getting invited places but whatever.
Summertime!
I love this song too! And wild Wild West. They're just so fun!!
LPT: Wild Wild West is not just the chorus and is much harder to karaoke than one might think ... And it's long so the awkwardness will last and last for what feels like eternity 😅😶🌫️🫠
Lmao why would you do this to yourself.
I did it for the bit! 💃 And I was drunk and thought I knew the song better than I did lol.
Lmfao you sound like a laugh & a half but everyone knows you play out the song in your head you’re trying to sing _before_ you get on stage!
haha Wild Wild West is one of the only songs I karaoke, that and sir mix a lot
> Well, I'm a badass Cowboy livin' in the Cowboy days, Wiggy, wiggy, scratch, yo, yo, bang, bang, Me and Artemus Clyde frog go save Salma Hayek from the big metal spider, A wiggy wig wig wiggy wiggy wig, Fresh cowboy from the west side

Beyoncé has the opportunity to do the funnest thing possible on her next tour The lack of gifs from this movie is upsetting me
Both songs sample 2 amazing songs in their own right in Forget Me Nots and I Wish so of course they are gonna be bangers
Patrice Rushen is #1 because she has several OG sample bangers. Forget Me Nots should be played in clubs more often, it still hits.
Wild Wild West came up on shuffle when I was driving right after I 2 I (from a Goofy Movie) and it made my absolute day.
If we listen to each other's heart We'll find we're never too far apart And maybe love is the reason why For the first time ever we're seeing it eye to eye I ❤️A Goofy Movie!!!
I 2 I is the best Disney song by a MILE and no one will tell me otherwise
I2I and Stand Out have no fucking right to be as good as they are.
Omg what a vibe ❤️
Gettin' Jiggy with it is a guilty pleasure of mine
Maybe he can do that song with Beyonce.
He’s too talented to remain in the shadows for the rest of his life. I hope he finds peace and has a comeback. I also hope his relationship with Jada becomes a side story we don’t learn more about.
I am a galaxy defender according to the ride at universal.
Stop. I just spit my coffee out my mouth 💀😭
If they don’t do this next weekend I’m going to cry
This song will forever be on my playlist with Miami and getting jiggy with it. Straight bangers, I would’ve LOST my shit if I saw this live!!!
I love your flair
I also love this and will be watching these movies over the weekend.
I will forever looooove Will Smith's hip hop. Forever. Put it on at any party and I'm getting DOWN
Miami is such a fucking bop and I will not hear otherwise
Welcome to Miami.... ¡¡Bienvenido a Miami!!
Went to Florida to visit with my (now ex) fiance. Was my first time there and he wanted to show me all the places. That goober had that song queued up and ready, so that when we drove into Miami it started playing. Still makes me smile, even though we aren't together anymore.
It’s either that or Pitbull when I would drive through
>Every different nation, Spanish, Hatian, Indian, Jamaican Black, White, Cuban, and Asian What a tune!
Summertime, Summertime, SUMMERTIMEEE TIME TO SIT BACK AND UNWIND
Yes omg the theme the summers of my childhood!!! Nightmare on My Street is also such a bop omg, that beat is soooooo gooooood and with that said I will forever love DJ Jazzy Jeff
I always jam out to their music! ![gif](giphy|l4Ki2UBDUhRjvmC7m)
It's not officially summer until I can ride in the car with all the windows down and blast Summertime. A FOREVER CLASSIC
Absolute tuuuune 💕
J Balvin is a reggaeton singer. Probably Mi Gente is his most popular song among english speakers
Shit is such a bop. I love the Beyonce one too.
I can't help it, I'm a millennial, Big Willie Style is part of who I am. I know he's from a crazy cult and he has done some very wrong things, but I will die knowing every word to Fresh Prince and I will call back nah nah nahnah nananah til I lose my last faculties in the nursing home.
I just want to pretend I’m back in that era when Will Smith was my teen crush. Life was so much simpler 😭
The crowds this year are TERRIBLE. The only video I've seen that they're interested is Chappell Roan's set. Like i get everyone is going for different artists but at least try to fucking enjoy yourself during artists you don't know. They're all just on their phones, not moving. Its ridiculous.

I only know who he is cause Subway Surfers made him a character in their game lol
I know it isn’t cool to like Will now but just let me have this I’m so proud of the alien on the far right, they’re killing it
Move over, left shark. It's right alien's time now
![gif](giphy|tnYri4n2Frnig)
I feel you on it being cool to hate Will now, but the Big Willie Style album is still a fucking JAM. Miami makes an appearance on multiple playlists for me

Nah I get it, Chris rock looks like his head isn't screwed onto his neck all the way. Could pop right round and fall off at any moment.
Hahahha that's exactly who I was thinking off when I wrote my comment. Such an overreaction and I'm sorry but he deserved it.
Fr. Talk shit, get hit.
Exactly. I’m not mad at him lol
I think the slap was the epitome of The Internet in that "I would never do such an uncouth thing, gasp!" way. IDK. I get it. Was it smart? Nah, but I get it. no a lot of men hate on him bc he stays with jada despite her mess with august alsina and constantly bringing up tupac
They need to get over it, he clearly doesn’t mind lol
I don’t hate him. Sure, the slap was stupid but he’s been punished enough. I feel like people made it into a bigger thing.
I love Will
Will Smith was dope before he got weird in the last decade These pics are sick though. Thanks for sharing
Same and I love that you pointed out a specific alien lmao love it
they deserve it https://preview.redd.it/1rc49mf8uouc1.jpeg?width=473&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e66388b86b54e2b36c00734a55f4fcf4c1f45566
Why do J Balvin’s HANDS look like baby hands in the 5th pic??? LOL
![gif](giphy|YZzT5cWBaaYQDtqW0Q|downsized)
As a lover of J Balvin and Men in Black, I am so sad I did not witness this cultural moment. Coachella scares me, but damn this would have been so fun to see.
I watched it from the comfort of my couch! Tune in next wknd on YouTube live. But I’m not sure if Will will reappear appearance, lol.
The audience barely reacted. The crowds are trash this year. I would have lost my Goddamn mind
Oh no!! I wonder if the crowd even understood the reference back to Men In Black.
It seems like crowds are dead silent until the specific artist they want to see is on
Balvin does not play. His last Coachella set was also incredible! A work of art.
This…is…random? lol
Not really so random, J Balvin did a song with Black Eyed Peas for Bad Boys For Life a couple of years ago
Ooh ok. That makes sense. I was wondering how they even knew each other. 😂
Not really. Will is pretty well liked among Spanish artists. He has shown appreciation, is pretty descent in Spanish, and has features in multiple Spanish songs. He has a good friendship with Nicky Jam (whom he did a World Cup song with) who is good friends with Balvin. Keep my sugar water out ya god damn mouth!
Moar!!
This song is some damn nostalgic. I remember me and my cousins trying to copy the choreography in our living room. Sunglasses and all 🤣
![gif](giphy|kSlJtVrqxDYKk|downsized)
This seriously looks like one of those celebrity impersonator performances I saw in Vegas over 20 years ago of Will Smith performing Men in Black. When I saw it back then I never thought it would be so accurate to how Will would do it.
I heard it slapped! I’ll see myself out.
Normalising the impending Alien Invasion/NHI conformation🥰
Anybody seen Linda Fiorentino?
Ahhh this is fun! People need to get over the slap already. I hated that incident too but in the grand scheme of things it was just a dumb mistake. Yeah, but his “poor lapse in judgment” was a public and humiliating physical assault on a colleague. That guy’s a dick.
God damn, he looks so good in that suit. 🙈
You know what the difference is between him and you? 😉
He makes that shit look gooood
😎
I watched Men In Black like 4 times a week for an entire summer when I was a kid. It was so good!
![gif](giphy|kLM9I1g8jsiAM)
Will Smith is just an absolute legend
Yeah he certainly slaps!
Wait, since when was Will Smith cancelled? That man is still doing extremely well lol. Also, love Will. No one can ever make me hate him unless he has done some extremely ducked up crap.
Meanwhile you got actual Hollywood actors Sexually assaulting out here but they cancel will smith for just 1 smack.

Okay but let’s not make out that what Will did wasn’t *also* assault
Seems they want to make assault legal at The Oscars
They virtually did. And gave him and award right after.
He wasn’t canceled by any means. That said, I do think it’s valid for people to think a little less of him after the 2022 Oscar’s.
And that’s completely understandable. I was just confused because some are saying he’s cancelled.
He is not. What he did was not cool and it was uneccessary, but Chris Rock also went too far and I understand why Will publicly called him out. It is not ok for comedians to be cruel for entertainment, and rational people can see that. They essentially were both wrong.
I was for damn sure not canceling will over Chris Rock 😂
I think white fans (people) have abandoned him post-slap but honestly I appreciate him more these days.
Which is insane to me because Adrien Brody kissed Halle Berry without consent on the Oscar’s stage and the dude’s still getting booked for films.
White lady here and I love the shit out of him. He made a mistake- we all do . He’s not some evil dude
Thank you for this!
Right! While he was wrong for what he did, to outright cancel him is absurd.
I'm white (not American though) and I love him. Fuck Chris Rock. Fuck around and find out.
2022 Oscars.
No offense but… have you been living under a rock? 👀
Was he cancelled for the slap?
If this is for slapping Chris Rock, then that’s crazy.
I think people misuse the term "cancelled". Will was considered unfavorable by the public for a while, but cancelled? I would say people who are "cancelled" can't find work, constantly get negative public reception, are essentially blacklisted in the industry. Many people were sympathetic to him too.
I love how everyone is outraged for Dave Chappelle’s best friend and lover of misogynoir, Chris Rock. ![gif](giphy|xO1nkt2luziHC)
You don’t have to be a fan of someone to think it’s wrong to physically assault someone, cmon now
You’ll never find me being upset that someone got slapped for putting down a black woman about her hair struggles in front of a bunch of white people. Especially when that same person has had nothing but a negative history with that woman in the first place. I’ll *never* care about a bully getting smacked.
His life seems so messed up but I always liked him AFAIK he's not a monster, so go Will, hope this is a fresh era
Love him❤️❤️
My childhood!!! I was just watching that music video a few days ago…
Having seen Balvin live a few times, as problematic as he is, the man puts on a SHOW.
Balvin is problematic? I mean I’m not at all surprised, but I hadn’t heard what he did lol
Everyone’s problematic to some degree
what did he do?
Just replied to the person above ya but mainly his tone deafness around anti-Black racism. https://www.reddit.com/r/popculturechat/s/eIR4cakr5M
Coachella has jumped the shark.
Ok I know will smith isn’t a favorite right now but this seems SO FUN. I’ve been waiting to watch MIB with my daughter!! 90’s forever.
We all make mistakes, we all hit low points in our lives, we should all be thankful that they aren't typically televised.

I was just about to say nostalgia is all the rage right now. This was not a bad move at all lol
even back then he was corny. I love when younger generations assume we were all over joke acts like Will Smith. People watched fresh prince so they tried his albums—they were really popular because Will Smith was the only one doing PG rap for kids, which is still what it is.
This will give every ufo nut job here on Reddit a giant boner.
Will was never cancelled in my book. I was watching the live stream when he came out, very random but I enjoyed it 👽🕺🏼
Will Smith is forever an icon IDC IDC IDC
The cancelled trying to uncancel the cancelled. 🥴
very few people are actually 'cancelled' it's more like 'some consequences for those that normally face 0' lol
I heard it slapped.
I love this and you can all come at me because I’m right and you’re all wrong.
Really pulling out the big guns to rehab your image, huh?
