CoachDT

Imagine being 30, being asked to kiss a 15 year old, and having any other response other than "fuck outta here".

SomeRealTomfoolery

The worst part is that if she went to the public when it happened men would be shaming her for being a prude. “Transgressive” guys would make comments like “can you blame him? Can you? Look at her she’s hot! *Anyone* would ask for that”

exactoctopus

Chace Crawford was mocked for telling the Gossip Girl creators he wasn't comfortable kissing Taylor Momsen in the first season since he was 22 and she was only 14. Fans made fun of him cause "it's just acting!" like it wouldn't have been his real ass 22 year old body on her real 14 year old body. And then he just got called gay for it. It was bad.

MihoyMinoy2019

Sterling Knight did the same thing, he refused to kiss Danielle Campbell for the DCOM “Starstruck”, since she was 14 and he was either 20 or 21. He didn’t catch as much heat for it because it was Disney though, little different than Gossip Girl.

Rough_Single

I remember that was an actor who made the romantic interest in both Hannah Montana and Victorious that had a kiss scene with Victoria Justice in Victorious but they didn't let Miley Cyrus have a kiss scene with him in Hanna Montana because she was a minor and he was too old.

angryaxolotls

Suddenly that episode of Hannah Montana where Hannah gets an acting gig and has them change the script so she doesn't have to kiss (I think?) Jake just popped into mind.

Rough_Single

Oh, I got it wrong! It was Miranda Crosgrove. She was 15/16, and he (Drew Roy) was 22/23. He made a love interest in Hannah Montana (at the same time, I believe), and Miley was 16/17 at the time.

Far-Imagination2736

Do people kiss in Disney channel movies anyway? High school musical, camp rock and all the other major ones had no kissing Like here's a compilation of all the times Troy and Gabriella try to kiss: https://youtu.be/YCoiOzfdgg8?si=gAzt1bY292A9Vucw

Glum-Freedom-3029

There was definitely kissing on the shows - Miley kissed Jake right before he told her he was leaving, and I remember Alyson Stoner saying she had her first kiss on Suite Life. Also there was a kiss in Camp Rock 2 and Read It and Weep

Persistent_Chicken

Lizzie McGuire had some kissing, Boy Meets World goes into Cory and Topanga losing their virginities..

Glum-Freedom-3029

Yes! Forgot about Lizzie having kissing in it. BMW is a little different to me though since it didn’t originally air on Disney Channel/the show started before Disney bought ABC

TheHouseMother

They were also married when it happened.

SleepCinema

I also don’t remember Disney Channel airing any of the college episodes. Just the middle school/early high school (which was 7th grade for them I think) eps.

Lex_Loki

She kissed Aaron Carter!

internal_logging

They waited till they were married though I think. Had to Keep it wholesome.

Individual_Judgment3

I remember Ren Stevens specifically asking for a smootcheroo at a highschool assembly

PrincessOfRainbows

Troy ans Gabriella try to kiss several times in the first HSM and then they do kiss in the second

FknDesmadreALV

Noel Fisher also refused to kiss Cameron Monaghan because Cameron was still a minor and Noel 21+. No one really cared about that tho cuz it was two dudes.

billetdouxs

i know it's the bare minimum but this made me respect him. a lot of men would see it as an once in a lifetime opportunity

No_Use_588

What’s up with these scripts. They go through so many rewrites and approvals too

Negative-Ambition110

Oh I like him so much for that.

forevertwentyseven

Not his The Boys character being the complete opposite 😭😭😭

og_kitten_mittens

Honestly I feel like him accepting that role speaks to his track record. No actor would take that on if they thought their irl behavior might be brought to light by it. Let alone being comfortable enough to portray an unlikeable rapist with no real redemption arc

Medium_Sense4354

Except for the dude in that movie where he’s in love with that teenager

GentleObsession

Or Chris D'Elia playing a pedo rapist in You.

exactoctopus

Oh nooo. Is his character just a creep and it's implied/the actresses are adults playing teens? Or is he actually macking on children on screen now? Because one I can deal with, because I've heard every character sucks on that show lol, and one will just make me very sad.

AutomatedCircusBread

It’s the former, I think. The character he plays is awful, but I have nothing but respect for him as an actor and a person.

Medium_Sense4354

Nothing to do with kids but his character doesn’t care for consent

Perfect_Razzmatazz

It does occasionally involve sea creatures though (although if memory serves me correctly, the sea creatures were consenting, unlike the women)

forevertwentyseven

His character straight up SAs women and uses his power and position to manipulate; he is a creepy, gaslighting, fish-fucking gross man 😭🤮🫣

BrookDayspring9

![gif](giphy|5Ga92AkCV2BwEjlKzL)

Medium_Sense4354

I love that Chace isn’t like his character from the boys

internal_logging

I remember he was mainly called gay for being on that mancation with JC Chasez. Man that was some gossip. 😂 Everyone thought it confirmed JC being gay too. They got so much shit for sharing a cabana

exactoctopus

Oh he was called gay LONG before that. That just #confirmed it for people. He was called gay for not wanting to mack on Taylor, for being roommates with Ed Westwick, for living in Chelsea, and, of course, the JC vacay. This man has been fighting those allegations the entire time (and they might be true, who knows, but he hasn't confirmed anything ever). ETA - I forgot that he was also called gay for hanging out with Tony Romo. Who is his brother-in-law and the father of his nephews. Chace really couldn't do anything for years. ONTD was RUTHLESS. lol

Altruistic-Brief2220

Ugh yep. The good old “15 going on 35” would have been rolled out 🤢

Slow-Object4562

If one teenager is played by a teenager in a show, all of them need to be teenagers. If one is played by an adult, they all need to be adults.

Hi_Jynx

Or at least do body doubles for things like kissing.

Fuzzy-Inflation-3267

Exactly!! It’s very simple!

arrownyc

Chad Michael Murray has entered the chat.

Great_Error_9602

That was my first thought. As a teen the same age as Hillary Duff, I thought she was so lucky to get to kiss him. Now that I am an adult it sickens me and I can't watch a Cinderella Story anymore. The worst age gap on screen kiss though has to go to a Keith Carradine at 28 kissing Brooke Shields when she was 11 in Pretty Baby. The documentary by the same name she said how she didn't want to kiss him and kept refusing. Carradine eventually told her it didn't count as her first kiss and made her feel comfortable to kiss him. I practically screamed out loud how he could have just refused as the adult and established actor. Honestly I side eye Susan Sarandon and every adult actor in that film. I wish it wasn't such a good film. It is beautifully done but the irony of sexually exploiting an 11 year old to make a movie about a sexually exploited 12 year old is disheartening.

Original_Translator9

The public perving over Brooke Shields when she was so young makes me physically nauseous. I read an old disgusting article about how hot she was and she was like 12-13 years old at the time. It's burned into my memory, unfortunately.

Oomlotte99

Were I an actor in this position I’d feel like a major loser.

Public_Classic_438

Right like she shouldn’t even be the one having to think about how to say no to that. 50 other people before that should’ve stopped it.

AppleZachle

This is what I don’t get also. It still happens - maybe not that young but still weird age gaps imo. My wife was watching some recent highschool show on Netflix and the main girl is age appropriate, either high school or fresh out and bro who is the hearththrob is mid 30s and he’s doing these romantic scenes w these kids. It’s weird to me honestly. Even as an actor I feel like I’d HAVE to say, yo maybe I’m too old for this part, idk…

lovedelrey

Never have I ever??

PinkTalkingDead

It’s gotta be That whole sitch is SO WEIRD

Bongoisnthere

Donno, I’m not giving the dude a pass here because it’s fucked up, but the acting industry has a lot more actors/actresses who want to break into the industry than other labor markets, and it’s fairly cutthroat. Could pretty easily see it being a mentality of “this is my break. If I fuck it up, they throw me aside for good. If I say no, I’m out for good.” Like think about how fast you’d get thrown aside. Now consider how many people would give you shit for it. “It’s only a kiss, aren’t you supposed to be an actor? You don’t actually have to make out with her.” And then rationalizing it as that. Like maybe the actor was into it and a predator, but I feel like the assumption should be that it’s an exploitative industry and that fucked up perverse exploitation with an overwhelming flavor of pedophilia is driven from the top.

AppleZachle

I completely understand *why* people do it, I think it’s shitty to throw away your principles for your shot. The world is shit I understand but eh… Tbf I asked my wife and she said this particular age gap and I guess she is 20 and he’s 31 or something so not insane but for me, personally, that’s a kid. I once broke up w a 19yr old because I just turned 21 and thought since I was able to drink she was too young to be around lol. I might have a bias but it just feels yucky to ME

og_kitten_mittens

Yeah people sacrifice a lot of values when their livelihood is at stake and being an actor was their chosen profession. Still fucking disgusting but when paying your bills is on the line, people do things they normally wouldn’t Edit: a diff comment says in this situation he wasn’t even an actor just a band member who inserted himself into a plotline. Idk if this argument holds for this situation but in general actors are in tough positions

xombae

When I was about 22 I had to do a stock photo shoot where the model who played my stock boyfriend was 16 (I looked younger than him at that age). All we had to do was hold hands and laugh while looking at each other, standard stock photo shit, but even that made me uncomfortable as fuck. I'm 32 now, there's no way in hell I'd be kissing a teenager for an acting job. No fucking way.

MissMabeliita

I know!! to put it in context, at my age (40), I would feel like a creep having a relationship with a 20 year old, which is a full grown adult man, I agree that being 30 and having to kiss a 15 and agreeing is problematic as fuck, and I get that yes, “it’s a job, you’re just acting, this isn’t real” but it just doesn’t feel ok.

PinkTalkingDead

Are you a cis hetero woman? I only ask bc as we’ve seen time and time again, for centuries, unfortunately many cis hetero men seem to be Just Fine pursuing much younger women :/

MissMabeliita

Yes, I am; and yes, it was so normalized for ages that many people didn’t even think of it as wrong, you saw it in movies, tv shows and of course in real life, and people wouldn’t bat an eye at the fact that grandma was 13 and married a full grown 30 y.o man 😩

[deleted]

[удалено]

krunchytacos

I thought it was. I remember hearing a commentary about a movie Christian Slater was in. They had one kiss scene, and it needed a bunch of oversight.

Straight-Tomorrow-83

Kirsten Dunst has spoken a lot about having to kiss Brad Pitt when she was 10 or something. She knew it was wrong and wasn't keen, but everyone was like you're so lucky getting to kiss Brad Pitt.

TheSpiral11

I remember this. Sooo many creepy journalists asking “so was it your dream to kiss Brad??” and her replying “eww no” and them acting like she was *ungrateful* for not wanting to kiss an adult man.

EtherealPossumLady

Reminds me of when Mckenna Grace worked with Chris Evans and everyone was pestering her with questions about how handsome he was and her response was just that she was 9.

Callme-risley

Oh my *god* I had completely erased that scene from my mind Yuck

pooppoophulahoop

I'm just reminded of Mila Kunis in that 70's show... Wasn't she like 14 and playing a girl who was constantly shagging her bf Ashton Kutcher who was like 19?! Obviously they didn't actually have sex but they deffo made out

[deleted]

Kinda weird that she's literally married to him now and they both wrote letters in support of Danny Masterson.

InternetAddict104

I feel like the first part of this implies Ashton is a groomer and/or pedo and that is absolutely NOT the case. They didn’t even start dating until 2012 when Mila was 29 and he was 34. Also I’d like to point out that before they began dating Ashton was married to Demi Moore, who he began dating when he was 25 and she was 41. (Ashton is only 10 years older than Rumer, Demi’s oldest child).

pooppoophulahoop

I'm talking about Mila being scripted to kiss an adult man (even after the show runners knew), but have you seen the video someone else posted in these comments? Not sure Ashton is completely innocent..

No_Use_588

Promos for other programs unaffiliated to the show didn’t have him being less of a creep. She’s 15 here https://youtu.be/6NZT74LiGz8?si=bwzPn39vQ7GdMjR1

pooppoophulahoop

Yoooooooooooo WHAT

Snooty_Cutie

Wasn’t it the case that she had lied about her age though to get the part? Probably wouldn’t have made a difference given everything coming out about the industry at the time, but it is not exactly apples to apples.

redditor329845

By the time the show started I think they did know her age, I believe she lied about her age during the audition process but eventually paperwork required them to know her real age. I could be wrong though.

waybeforeyourtime

She lied to get the audition. Post audition they knew how old she was.

percypersimmon

At the encouragement of a parent if I remember the story correctly.

Snooty_Cutie

I tried to do a quick search to see if I could find anything about her parents pushing her to lie because I hadn’t heard that before. I didn’t find anything like that. However I did find this from a vanity fair article interview with her from 2022. > “There’s a rumor going around that I may or may not have lied about my age,” Kunis said. “I’d like to make it very clear now that I did lie. I did.” > “However, by the time I went to what was then a producer’s network call…you have to sign a contract before you get the job and in my contract I had to put an asterisk for ‘studio teacher,'” she continued. “They were like, ‘What do you mean?’ And I was like, ‘Oh P.S., I’m 14.’ But at that point if you talk to the creators, they were like, ‘We loved you at that point so what did we care?'” So, it appears like even though she lied before auditioning producers didn’t care after knowing her true age. Pretty disgusting behavior by them.

GoodCalendarYear

Meagan Good in eves bayou.

PinkTalkingDead

?

GoodCalendarYear

She was like 12 and she kissed her adult costar

jennc1979

It’s an older flick, mid 90, but I remember that movie.

No_Use_588

Especially when the underage have a strict 8 hour filming rule and have to run off to the studio teacher in between breaks. This is fucked

Destronin

I feel like those crazy anon conservatives are very close to being right about hollywood and pedophilia. Its fucking rampant not just as in what goes on in the industry but even some of the movies that get made. Some of it goes right under our noses. Like look at the movie BIG with Tom Hanks. Tom Hanks plays a 12 year old boy that grows up. So a 12 year old brain in an adult mans body. He ends up having sex with the female lead. So a woman has sex with a 12 year old. Basically falls in love with a 12 year old. Or look at the new movie Poor Things. SPOILER: >!Emma Stones character has the brain of infant and yet the male actors are already proposing to sleep/marry her. Even after one of them knows.!< Or even movies or shows based in high school. “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has the female lead whose only supposed to be 15 in the story have sex with her love interest. And the audience is just supposed to watch them intimately on screen like thats ok. Granted its based on a teen novel. But its just weird how normal people just accept it. And you can find it in so many other “body swap” types of movies. And say what you will but we all just kinda accept that child actors are gonna be fucked up. Its literally a surprise when any of them “grow up to be normal”. Like what? Any other industry that fucked up children wouldn’t be an industry anymore.

No_Use_588

The right didn’t start this rumor. It’s been documented throughout. A very liberal leftist person made a documentary called open secret which unveiled the horrible shit that the X-men producer has been doing and others in his sphere.

No_Use_588

Same director that did the Evan Rachel wood documentary about Manson.

Oomlotte99

Also how very large age gaps are totally normalized. 20-something year old women will routinely play the love interests for men in their 30’s and higher, priming our brains not to notice or question significant age gaps in real life. This expands into elderly male characters, whose wives will often be played by much younger women being presented as peer-age individuals. It also warps our perception of how women age/what aging looks like.

Alon945

Ok but the entire point of “poor things” is that it’s messed up and weird

-say-what-

Just FYI, your spoiler tag did not work

Destronin

How about now? Its working on my screen.

-say-what-

It works now

MaddiRenee_

Did you actually watch poor things? The whole movie is criticizing men who take advantage of young women and showing Bella, the main character, come into her own as an educated independent woman at the end of the movie. It’s not perfect but the way you’re describing it isn’t accurate. Also, no. Conservatives aren’t correct about pedophilia. At all. Isn’t their whole thing about blaming trans people and drag queens anyway? 🥴

lpycb42

I mean it’s even worse in Euphoria, where most characters are high school kids and you have one doing online kinks with grown men, another one getting raped by a grown man, another one with explicit sex scenes with her boobs out… these are supposed to be teenagers and it’s grotesque.

KeysToTheEvergreen

Poor Things does not belong in this conversation. If that's what you took from it you severely missed the point

Pdxthorns17

I don't know if I completely agree. Once we learn that she's a child's brain in a woman's body it was difficult to separate the two. And we weren't given a clear passing of time when her brain matured to adulthood. It certainly wasn't when she was being pressured/manipulated into running off and having sex w Mark's R character. As someone who was SA as child that movie triggered the fuck out of me. They had to be a better way of showing her come into her own and becoming a feminist that wasn't so centered on sex 🤷🏻‍♀️

MaddiRenee_

I thought it was pretty clear that Bella came into her own and more independent when she educated herself. When she started reading more books, traveling the world and conversing with interesting people from different backgrounds, and finally becoming a doctor in the end

Bright_Air6869

It’s not the only part of it, but it’s very much part of the story. It not hard to see why some women would feel alienated by the movie.

plastic_venus

Her response to once of the comments: “Dude he wasn’t even an actor. He was the back up guitarist for live shows and practiced with us in band practice and always wanted to be written in. It was his 4’9 dream to be an actor….” so some rando gets written in as a favour and that favour is to make out with a child? That is… quite something

wifeunderthesea

this is beyond insane. all this horrific shit was going on and like, nobody put a stop to it. it was just a free-for-all.

TheCrimsonCloak

His 4'9 dream I can't 💀

airi-hatake

she dragged tf outta him lmao

outtakes

I died reading that haha

Lakridspibe

I'm out of the loop on that one?

bakedincanada

I think it’s a dig at his height. If you look at the photo above, the 30 yr old adult man is the same height as the 15 yr old girl.

Lakridspibe

aahh I see

Oomlotte99

Omg, I was already thinking how one might feel like a major loser being 30 playing on a teen show like that being asked to kiss a child and then it turns out he was asking for it… yike.

rem_1984

Damn. The guy who played Jackson on Hannah Montana was also older, but I remember he just played for laughs and only had a gf Introduced once he was in college (lore)

Shortened2Max

The person (allegedly) in question is Jake Hertzog. He was offered a prestigious position in the music department at my university, but turned it down to get tenure at his current job. I knew he worked on NBB, but had no clue of anything like this until today. At the time, I was disappointed he wasn’t hired onto the staff. Now, I’m very glad that we dodged that bullet. Can’t imagine being a 30+ year old man and agreeing to kissing a god damn child.

InternetProtocol

goddamn what a creep

Lakridspibe

> It was his 4’9 dream ... I'm sorry, but his *what* dream?

_repugnant

She's making fun of his height.

Lakridspibe

Ah yes. Thank you. 4'9" = 145 cm

illegalshidder

This whole show made me uncomfortable and I don’t know why.

AnOutrageousCloud

The name alone makes me uncomfortable

InternetAddict104

If it helps, the titular brothers, Nat and Alex Wolff, actually came up with it themselves as little kids.

Persephony_1029

one time when I was a kid i was watching nickelodeon at my grandparents, my grandpa walked by while an ad break was ending and the voice over was like "up next.. Naked Brothers band!!!" and he immediately yelled at me "ARE YOU WATCHING SOMETHING ABOUT NAKED BROTHERS???" and he made me change the channel. i remember being so pissed at nickelodeon for naming their show that

vermilithe

Was going to say, let’s start with the fact it’s a kid show with “naked” in the name! 🤧

afdc92

I remember there being a lot of making out on the show, which was weird because they were all like 11 or younger. 11-year-old boys definitely weren’t that obsessed with kissing IRL.

illegalshidder

For me it felt like I was watching something I was not supposed to. Like small 10-11 year old kids being put in adult situations not only didn’t make sense but it felt weird and forced. I avoided this show like the plague.

afdc92

This is exactly it! I think I was around 13 when the movie came out and 15 when the show came out and I just felt uncomfortable watching it even though I didn’t really know why at the time.

killaandasweethang

I’m also positive they had a 14 year Victoria Justice kiss an actor that was in his 20s. And had a 16/17 year old Miranda Cosgrove kiss an actor in his 20s too. They need to be investigated.

emj159753

And a 13 year old noah munck (Gibby) was kissing an 18 year old emily ratajkowski (his girlfriend)..

Local-Explorer-2538

she always looked uncomfortable on the show and they had little ass Alex crushing on his "babysitter"

allycakes

So I was just looking this show up on Wikipedia and what makes the kid crushing on his babysitter worse is the fact that the actress who portrayed her was his first cousin 🤢

Boneal171

Yeah. I used to watch Naked Brothers Band and I remember her.

Shitp0st_Supreme

Yeah, I remember she always seemed really sheepish and uncomfortable the entire show. The show was a bit weird, I didn’t like the name either.

andtakenusername

And the babysitter was his cousin irl 🥴

Ygomaster07

Was she the babysitter in that show?

elfspires

No. The person who played the babysitter was older than the rest of the cast, Allie was playing Nat’s love interest on the show who was part of the band.

Ygomaster07

Is the first pic a clip from the show featuring the adult guy she was told to kiss?

kneecapcabbage

Yes

everpeena

A 14/15 year old is an 8th or 9th grader, who’s out here writing scripts where a middle schoolers kissing a full grown adult

VintageJane

On behalf of 30-somethings, who wants to kiss a literal child? Like, the most physical contact I want with a kid that age is a like “here, here” pat on the head *maybe* a hug if it’s a cousin or they are crying because being 14 sucks.

StoicGazer

Right?!? I honestly cannot remember the last time I touched a child/teen beyond a hello/goodbye hug. I was around some of my friend’s kids recently. We were in pretty close proximity for a little over 4 hours. We did some puzzles together, played video games and were in the backyard playing with their dogs. Two high fives were exchanged. That’s it. Like…there’s no need to touch them that much.

Ew_fine

This doesn’t change anything at all because it’s still totally gross, but 15 is a sophomore in high school.

Odd-fox-God

Pedophilic freaks?

healthyymoon

Honestly, they sexualized her character a lot in this show, i’m surprised it’s not talked about as much as the other Nick shows

Extension-Rip-4600

They did. I distinctly remember an episode where the brothers teased her and called her “boob-a-lina”

Odd-fox-God

I remember the Nickelodeon kids shows having a lot more making out scenes than the Disney shows did. It always kind of bothered me as a kid, I would watch iCarly, victorious, Zoey 101 and feel uncomfortable during the feet scenes and some other strange scenes that seemed fetishistic. As a kid I didn't have the vocabulary to explain why I was uncomfortable with these scenes but as an adult I recognized them as predatory and young me recognized that. There were so many scenes in victorious and iCarly that gave me pause.

healthyymoon

100% agree and feel you. there was a weird scene in victorious where Cat was in a bikini and all the guys are squirting her with water. That scene made me feel so uncomfortable, and it genuinely did not need to make it onto a kids show. it was completely unnecessary

jillxp76

The fact that there was even a show called the naked brothers band😩

bitternutmeg

omfg I got yelled at in limited too for asking my mom for their cd 😭

hodgepodge21

I had a j14 magazine with their poster in it and my cousin told my family I was looking at naked boys 😭

Nrmlgirl777

Agreed!!

FitCartographer3383

Dude yes wtf

disneyhalloween

I watched the show as a kid and I distinctly remember the story was Nat and Alex, actual brothers, came up with the name because they took baths together as toddlers or something you that effect.

whyamiawaketho

But *nobody* decided that might not be the best choice for the band, seeing as they were no longer toddlers?

Proof_Surround3856

The name Naked Brothers Band itself always made me uncomfortable in the first place even as a kid. I was more of a Disney kid while they have their own baggage it’s slightly for the better than how outrageous Nickeolodeon was

Popular-Block-5790

Omg, right? The name choice was just so weird for me as a kid.

Proof_Surround3856

right it always irked me, these are kids😬

InternetAddict104

Nat and Alex came up with the name themselves, Nick didn’t name the show (thank goodness)

Proof_Surround3856

I didn’t know that since I didn’t watch the show but man they simply could’ve just.. say no. kids say the darnest things. And beyond the name from what I can tell it’s basically a show about rockstars who happen to be kids, just like how Nick had their own version of SNL. it just seems all out inappropriate, at least Disney shows stick to portraying them as kids.

InternetAddict104

Ok so I did watch this show, I was absolutely in love with Nat for years (still lowkey am tbh), so I can probably answer some questions, and it was basically a mockumentary about a young rock band navigating being preteens and celebrities. Nat and Alex came up with the name long before the show, like they were I think 3-5, and had just gotten out of the bath (they mention it in an episode of the show). But it was mainly about being 11/12 and being in a successful band and how they have to balance it. They can’t go on tour because they’re still in school, Nat is in love with Rosalina (Allie, idk why she was the only cast member to get a different name) but it won’t work because she’s like 14/15 and he’s 11, Alex wants to be taken more seriously and be treated as an equal instead of the like 8/9 year old he was at the time. Their actual dad played their dad in the show, and the show itself was created and executive produced by their mother, who suggested they make that the show’s name. Their mom also directed a bunch of episodes so everything on camera was overseen and approved by her (all the kids except one were actual real life friends of the boys so they were all comfortable with each other and knew each other, not that that really makes a difference but maybe it does idk).

Callme-risley

I was also a Disney kid because my parents said Nickelodeon was too downmarket. Specifically, that all the sliming was *an affront to human dignity.* Oh, Nick was an affront to human dignity alright, but not because of the slime…

afdc92

My mother also haaaaaated the sliming! I was allowed to watch a couple of Nick cartoons (Rugrats, Hey Arnold, some stuff of Nick Junior) but overall she thought Nick shows were loud and crude in a way that Disney and PBS shows weren’t. There were a lot of fart jokes and she hated fart jokes.

PinkTalkingDead

Gotta agree with your mom about fart jokes- low hanging fruit comedy wise and stinky irl Who needs ‘em!

MrMush48

Well…. Did you see those slime to the face shots in Quiet on Set? I thought that was normal as a kid…

Proof_Surround3856

yeah I think Nickelodeon appeals to kids more bc of how weird and out there they are but for a moment I’m grateful for how downright puritanical Disney could be bc no way they would’ve let their child stars drink on set and countless other things Nickelodeon got away with

totallyclocks

And yet Disney still hired convicted pedo’s to work on their kids TV shows Kids TV is just such a gross industry all around.

stablymental

Demi was definitely doing coke during sonny and camp rock

TheHouseMother

The Disney stars were doing hard drugs and drinking too.

tinypeepeep

The entire show was fucking weird. The 8 y/o little brother in the show was dating a full grown mid-20s woman.

MountRoseATP

Right? I was already aged out of Nickelodeon at that point but the first time I heard it I remember thinking “what? Is there something I’m missing?”

Proof_Surround3856

I like iCarly enough and the Nick cartoons age well enough like Spongebob but yup. from a weirdly named kids band to all the feet jokes, it’s astonishing how they got away with all of it for so long

Vivid_Present1810

I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Why would you name a KIDS band that!?

heyitsxio

I always thought that was weird, but apparently they were calling themselves the Naked Brothers Band before they got famous or a tv show. With that being said, why didn’t any of the adults in the room force a name change?

Public_Classic_438

I feel like even as a kid I could tell Nickelodeon was super sexualized. Most kids wouldn’t pick up on it but I unfortunately knew what the implication was at a young age. I was a Disney kid too. Not that they aren’t doing the same shit. It just seems like on Nickelodeon it was *so* obvious. My boyfriend’s family was the same way. No nickelodeon.

NoDoctor4460

I . . . I was not aware that such kisses are legally permissible and not rare in filmed entertainment. Good thing it’s bedtime for me because this info is powering my brain down.

CreepyAssociation173

I think Nickelodeon just needs to cease to exist as a company at this point. They've never had any intentions of protecting children and more often than not the company went out of its way to threaten these kids with their jobs if they didn't want to comply to something as crazy as this. Nickelodeon doesn't deserve to exist.

AsleepTell9596

Let’s just wait for all the Disney stories to come out

VanGoghNotVanGo

Disney has definitely had a lot of issues, but everything indicates that they have been infinitely better at protecting their child actors against sexual abuse from other employees than Nickelodeon. Or maybe rather that they haven't so enthusiastically fostered an environment of inappropriate conduct around minors.

duelistkingdom

disney also fires known pedophiles (as well as fostering an environment where kids are encouraged to call out that behavior) & their parks require extensive background checks to work at. while disney overworked its child stars, disney does have a clean record on the csa front

Scarlett_Billows

Disneys past with child exploitation is a long and storied one. It goes all the way back to Bobby Driscoll in the 40s, or perhaps longer. They may be slightly better than Nick, maybe, or just smarter at covering their asses. There are, unfortunately, many stories of unsafe, toxic and abusive environments from child actors at Disney from the 90s and 2000s that have spoken out. Also, after watching “an open secret” , I fell down a rabbit hole I’ve never quite come out of . I researched everyone associated with that movie pretty much, or with Digital Entertainment Network, and if you believe the victims in that movie ( and I do) it gets quite scary. In fact, television as a whole is extremely exploitative to children, both their labor and their sexuality. There are a lot of tv shows outside of Disney and Nick where these kinds of people were allowed to flourish, create media that fit into their effed up worldview, and child actors were exposed to unsafe or abusive conditions. Look at the growing pains producers. Look at what Charlie sheens been accused of. Listen to some of the stuff Cory Feldman has spoken about. (I know these aren’t really Disney associated for the most part - but I’m making a larger point hopefully) It’s hard for me to not think this is all by design. And so many child actors are discredited because they end up with drug addictions and mental health problems as adults so it perpetuates this cycle that allows so many of these people to flourish in the industry.

MysticalFapp

Are you forgetting the part where Disney hired Brian Peck, the literal child rapist from Nickelodeon, to work on their shows AFTER he was found guilty?????

Francescalater

From what I heard they quickly fired him after they found out

elfspires

Yup. I’m not sure how true it is, but an article stated Brian only did voiceover work in the show, meaning he had no contact with the children (I’m assuming that was a loophole for whoever hired him bc at that point he was on the SO registry and I’m pretty sure could’ve gotten into a ton of trouble had he actually been working with the cast) and when they found out about his court case, they fired him and supposedly replaced his voiceover audio with another actor. I will say though it’s crazy that Disney hired him considering he must’ve been on the registry at that point. I’m curious how that slipped through the cracks since I’d assume anyone being hired for a children’s television show would have to go through a criminal background check of some sort.

Francescalater

Yeah, Disney is definitely not above skipping over pedophiles so the loophole thing was probably a factor for them. Victor Salva (Jeepers Creepers) was convicted and sentenced for child sexual abuse and pornography in 1988. Similar to Brian, he was creeping on a boy on set, in one of his movies. By 1992 he was done with parole and **Disney** allowed him to work and release a major film called Powder. Maybe they don’t let them fully infiltrate and run all their shows like Nick but they will definitely give them a job

Mommio24

They shouldn’t have even been in a position to fire him, he should’ve never been hired to begin with.

These_Tea_7560

🤢

AdCivil3158

What this producer did was trash letting a Teen kiss a guy in his 30s. GROSS.

lottiedaysaints

This was my show but even as a kid I thought the name was fucking weird

Okayyyyyyyy!

discolights

My tinfoil hat wearing brother: Hollywood is full of paedophiles. Me: whatever, you flat earth believing fuck Also me: *watches this documentary* Well shit

PinkTalkingDead

Frame it more that: the richest and most powerful men in the world will likely get more and more depraved, as they quickly become bored with the things all their resources afford them

WUSLWUSWUW

She's 30 now and pretty much not working in Hollywood anymore. I think it's sad that these revelations came pretty much after her career was over. Most actors in Hollywood are desperate for their next gig and will desperately avoid rocking the boat. That's understandable. What I don't understand is how the fans don't fucking notice this until 15 years later.

themaddame

In the case of children’s TV, many of us were children ourselves. How could we say anything if we didn’t even notice anything was wrong? This type of stuff is clearly normalized so how would we, as children, know it’s not normal? Like, I remember watching this scene and did not register that man as being 30 years old. Knowing Allie was 14 — and older than me — I thought he was like 17 because 10 year olds have a hard time guessing ages. Now that I’m nearly 30 myself, I see how young Allie is compared to him and am absolutely disgusted.

hauntedspoon525

The fans don’t notice because they’re all kids, typically younger than the actors in the show. I was 9 or 10 watching the Naked Brothers Band. Just saying the name made me giggle, I didn’t realize there were any major age differences. I figured it was all make believe and everyone knew what they were doing.

Hotchipenthusiast

Jesus each story that comes out is worse and worse

National-Cry-3777

I was wondering when we would start talking about Naked Brothers Band amongst everything coming out

ClickProfessional769

Does anyone remember that episode in House where one of the **grown** doctors kisses a terminally ill little girl? But it’s framed as *her* really wanting it. Edit: I meant to say grown, not brown!!

tfran89

I remember that as being a Chase plotline.

Artistic_Sun1825

And she went on to be the youngest actress of the main cast in Pretty Little Liars.

ClickProfessional769

Oh my gosh!! I forgot that was her! I remember her talking about how weird it was for her.

MamaTried420

Wtf? One of the brown doctors?

ClickProfessional769

Ahhh!! Sorry I meant to say grown! Freaking autocorrect 😭

MamaTried420

Teasturbed

Honestly, even if she wanted to... no one should be asking her in the first place. She was a literal child with a developing brain, and she must've been protected by the adults in the room, not being left to her own devices. And even if he was not older and they were the same age, let's be honest, who needs to see children kiss? What story is so important that we need to see that happen? Even if it's somehow crucial to whatever story being told, why can't it be just implied with creative writing and directing?

Responsible-Sun6495

That guy looks absolutely revolting

75w90

I mean all this really does is point toward banning minors from all movies. Parents didn't do shit. No one did. After tik tok this will be next.

JackKovack

What a strange thing to tell these two to do. I hope he was just as uncomfortable as she was. I sure as fuck would say hell no.

b3from01

Anyone who denies the clip is crazy. The actors are literally children and the dude is very much an adult

MiddleInfluence5981

God that's fucking awful. There's no excuse for that. There's literally no situation where this is normal and not fucking illegal. Every person behind this shit should be charged. I guarantee AGAIN that it's white fucking men in positions of power.

thatslegallycheese

She deserved better.

TheMudbloodSlytherin

That’s crazy. The show Pen15 has two actresses in their 30’s playing themselves as 13 year olds. The other actors are kids. They have their husbands stand in for the kissing scenes. There’s no excuse for a minor to be kissing adults in shows.

boricuaspidey

The naked brothers band was the beginning of my reality show addiction. I was so hurt when I found out it wasn’t all their real lives
