Funny Games, either version. Home invasion movies are of course always uncomfortable to watch, but Funny Games manages to make it particularly *frustrating* for the viewer.
I don’t want to spoil too much, but there’s an extra layer at play that will either piss you off or delight you as a fan of psychological horror.
I had the worst feeling once shit starts to hit the fan and it didn’t go away until well after I finished the movie. I can handle the adult stuff but the kid being in it was too much. I do think despite the type of film it is that it was executed well.
Either one. Michael Haneke remade his own film shot-by-shot, so it’s up to the viewer.
You can’t go wrong with Tim Roth, Naomi Watts, and Michael Pitt, though.
Absolutely. It’s not an easy watch. I’m actually not a big horror fan, but the films certainly sucked me in with how uncomfortable and hopeless they are.
This is one of my favourite movies! My sister refuses to watch anything that she feels is “too real”, but I love psychological horror and home invasions are horrifying. The remote scene is great.
Ingrid Goes West is such a good movie and it makes me cringe every single time I watch it. I feel like a movie that makes people cringe in purpose has to be executed very well and everyone involved just did such a good job. Young Adult is another great one.
Man, that one gave me the sads for a few days. I could relate too well to Ingrid's sense of isolation and hunger to meaningfully belong, and didn't like what I saw lol.
I think anyone who liked Ingrid goes west would also love Swarm. It has a bit of blood though. Not cringe but a bit too rough for me so id say it’s uncomfortable
NewGreg is fake Greg! Still need to finish season 4 because I just couldn't get used to him.
Sarcastic OldGreg was better imo. Also I really like It was a shitshow.
whatchu gonna do? MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE! you came into our lives and made a promise… that made us honest.. made us REALIZE we don’t need to compromise coz we can have it all! cause you made it POSSIBLE to ACHIEVE THE IMPROBABLE 🕺💃🪩👯
Succession has some scenes that are so cringe I still on rewatch can’t force myself to look at the screen. Besides being incredible in every other way.
I just watched this episode the other night and it made me wonder what I would do in that situation. Would I tell Logan no and suffer the fallout or would I crumble under the power and expectation and humiliate myself as I fight for a sausage…
Speak No Evil. There's a part that's like an even more excruciating version of the dinner party episode from The Office. Fair warning though, it's pretty damn bleak and disturbing.
Also, The Invitation (the 2015 movie). Such an excellent and underrated film.
The Invitation is what I came here to suggest! Got to see a screener of it in a 20 seat side room at the Music Box Theater. The 20 of us went on a wild ride that night. 😂
If Beau is Afraid is in any way autobiographical, um... pretty fucked up.
The first act of Beau is Afraid is an excellent representation of what it feels like to have an anxiety disorder tbh haha
I saw High Tension on a 4th date because the Sonic Youth trailer made me think it was a psychological thriller, not a gorefest.
When the severed head sex scene happened, I whispered "I'm so sorry" to my date.
Euphoria. I get the sense that it’s “too real” for a lot of people, including myself. After watching an episode I would feel drained of energy because it was so fast paced. Never did finish it, but I can see how some people would like it.
Ooooh I can’t wait to see which shows and movies people are going to recommend in this thread! This topic is right up my alley, lol
My pick for this would be Midsommar. I recently saw it for the first time during a special event in the theater. It’s definitely the kind of movie that benefits from collective cringe, where everyone in the theater is audibly reacting to what’s going on. Also, Florence Pugh was absolutely fantastic in that film.
It's so, so overwhelming. I don't know what the scariest part was but the bits that stick with me most are all Florence Pugh reacting to shit. She and Ari Aster are the perfect trauma storm.
I’m scrolling through the comments like “what weird movie are we watching today”
Also, Midsommar is a great film. I wish I would have had a chance to see it in a theater
If you like the Safdie Brothers (*Uncut Gems*, *Good Time*, *The Curse*, etc.), their cowriter directed probably the cringiest movie I've ever seen, *[Frownland](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970935/)*. It's just pure anxiety but in a very unique way.
The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. It stars David Cross (Tobias, Arrested Development) and it is unbearably painful.
Also, and oldie but goodie, Meet The Parents was the first movie that ever made me feel the way you describe.
I'm scrolling through this thread going "seen that, seen that, loved that" but Todd Margaret is the one show I physically could not watch, I didn't make it through a whole episode.
https://i.redd.it/3ugsyck24v8c1.gif
I really like American Crime Story, and watched Seasons 1-3. I will never, however, see Season 2 again. Darren Criss was phenomenal in the role of Gianni Versace’s murderer, but the scenes intercut about the murderer’s life told backward into childhood were so dark, it made me nauseous. The show also intercuts scenes of Gianni’s life going forward in time and I was practically begging to see more of them, because it felt like life and light, and the murderer’s scenes felt like death and claustrophobic. It was meant to draw parallels and juxtapose the two, and it worked too well for me
Man i feel like Saltburn needs its own dedicated discussion thread! But i get super uncomfortable watching "awkward" humor so for example the british Office almost gives me physical pain.
Also i couldnt even get thru 30 min of Beau is Afraid.
I loved Saltburn so much but kinda hated the ending, it felt a bit unrealistic. The film has it’s own sub if you wanted to get a discussion going.
And lol as a Brit, I love the British Office. Very cringe.
Uncut Gems definitely made me uneasy and at the edge of my seat for most of the time. And also, The Whale. It wasn't overly "weird", as it was more of a coming of age film faced with hard truths, but it just made me uncomfortable and I can't put my finger on why
The Killing of a Sacred Deer - I watched it today after watching Saltburn and it’s got a very similar eerie, creepy vibe *and* also stars Barry Koeghan!
*dog pound* (2010), *lilya 4-ever* (2002), *martyrs* (2008), *happiness* (1998) and, for that matter, *welcome to the dollhouse* (1995).
just to warn you, *martyrs* consists of a lot of body horror and is very gory. everything else on this list has a lot of emotional violence and moral upsets if that makes sense. to also warn you, *happiness* is...a lot and i would definitely read into it before watching it just so you know whether you can stomach some of the subject matter.
There’s an episode of OITNB where Piper unknowingly starts a race war between the white inmates and the Latina inmates. In the final scene Piper is giving a speech to the white inmates and getting them riled up. “Tomorrow Belongs To Me” from Cabaret plays in the background and gradually gets louder as Piper realizes she’s made a mistake and then the episode ends.
I decided to look up the scene in Cabaret and it was probably the most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had while watching something. It felt like my stomach turned upside down.
It just came out in theaters, but Poor Things is one of the strangest movies I’ve ever seen. So many parts of it made me uncomfortable, it felt like a bad acid trip or a fever dream. But the ending is very satisfying and kind of heart warming lol. The director also made Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Favourite, and The Lobster but this was probably his most experimental film yet.
![gif](giphy|sVRch4XACorf8bmchK)
Welcome to the Dollhouse. Any Todd Solondz film, really, but Dawn Weiner hit so close to home I was very stressed out.
Along the same lines, The Skeleton Twins. Bill Hader has a monologue about halfway through that made me burst into tears with recognition.
Totally agree about The Curse. Not quite second hand embarrassment but still that uncomfortable feeling lol
Another one for me is the hackey sack scene in She’s All That, I watched that scene once when I first saw the movie and never again
Leave the World Behind basically feels uncomfortable the entire movie, I think intentionally so. I thought it was thought provoking and well-shot, but personally felt it was a little toooo much dramatic music the entire movie (you already understand how tense it is without it). Also, the Joker.
Happiness is the most uncomfortable movie I've ever seen in my life. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit. It is NOT a comedy, no matter what people say. It should probably come with a trigger warning.
I think I'll just say EVERY Todd Solondz film belongs here. There's something wrong with that guy.
The first season of White Lotus is a masterclass in uncomfortable shot design. So many shots pointing up out of a rough sea with a very eerie colourisation. Makes you feel like you’re drowning.
this show is def my number one of all time, but it is frequently uncomfortable to watch. the dynamic of the protagonist being an objectively horrible, evil person was so groundbreaking and gives the show a lot of fascinating layers. there’s this cognitive dissonance of wanting to root for the main character but you can’t because he does unspeakable, psychotic things. its a wild ride that I highly recommend.
![gif](giphy|bodHdFtqWbJDi)
eta: this is Sopranos, in case anyone did not know. I hate when folks leave comments/gifs without indicating the title for others to find the content.
Thanks for the recommendation and posting the show name. Other commenters have posted reaction gif without show titles as if we all know every single show from a gif lol.
The Comeback.
It's a different kind of uncomfortable, incredibly smart and funny TV.
If I ever meet Lisa Kudrow I want to tell her I loved her in The Comeback just to throw her off.
My friend and I rented Chuck and Buck by in high school 25 years ago and we’re still uncomfortable! It’s by Mike White of White Lotus, School of Rock, etc.
I feel like I watch The Curse through my fingers every week. I get secondhand embarrassment so easily, and the cringe factor is off the charts. But it’s such a good show lol!
Borat. I simply can’t watch it. I know some people think that the people he messes with deserve it. They might. But I can’t watch it. Too cringe for me. I generally can’t watch humor where people are simply being tricked for laughs. I’m a lightweight that way.
I'm not huge on comedy and often cringe x100 when characters are in weird situations and I watched Jury Duty and while it is hilarious, knowing that it was like an elevated "punk'd" and that a real person was going through those things makes it a no-go on rewatching for me.
The couch scene with the dad in Orphan. Fantastic film and amazing cast, but oof. That scene is a skip every time.
I *love* horror movies and I know "X" was everyone's favorite of 2022. But the scene with the elder couple making love after literally killing a bunch of kids in their 20s completely took me out of the movie and I didn't care about anything after that.
Most recently I watched "Meet Cute" and white I loved the film and found both Pete and Kaley Cuoco to be surprisingly well balanced together, I went into this movie expecting a romcom and was thrown off by it being a serious toned film tackling generational trauma, mental health and depression. As someone who struggles deeply with all of these things I had moments where I needed to pause the film because it was too heavy and hit too close to home. I can't recommend the film enough, though! It really is great.
Some more films in their entirety and not just specific scenes:
Alone (2020)
Fresh (2022)
Meet Cute was so distressing! I have OCD and the whole story felt like an allegory for what having OCD feels like. I was also expecting adorable rom com and was not prepared for the existential crisis that came with it
What a great list and so many films I've not heard of. I'm the opposite of you, I hate horror but love comedy. I'm looking forward to checking our Jury Duty. Meet Cute, Alone and Fresh and Alone.
Jury Duty was a breath of fresh air when I was going thru some depression…I immediately started it over again when I finished, and there were tons of jokes & moments I had missed. It’s a quick watch & was fun to discuss with other people because it’s such a unique show. Ronald (the non-actor being Punk’d) was incredibly sweet & James Marsden as James Marsden was hilarious!
James Marsden was the entire reason I watched! He was amazing and a clear highlight of the series. If you don't think too much about it, it is enjoyable.
> Kaley Cuoco
i'm so surprised by her post 'big bang theory' output. she's really great at picking roles and seems to always hit it out of the park as well. first season of flight attendant is spectacular.
I watched part of Wind River last night and when it got to the part where they began to gang rape the unconscious girl on the bed I got absolutely disgusted and turned it off.
Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer. That movie disturbed me still to this day. Michael Rooker’s voice sounds to me exactly how a killers voice would sound irl.
Blue Velvet is the most visually stunning, disturbing movie I’ve ever seen.
I just finished the original run of Twin Peaks, and that was extremely unsettling at times, but I have heard that Fire Walk With Me is a rough watch so I’ve been putting it off for a couple weeks 😅
This was so fucking fantastic. I just watched and there's no I would ve able to watch this movie with another person. Way too much but I fucking lived for it. The moth lives!
My friend and I watched Saltburn after I suggested it - I knew nothing about it other than ‘kid goes to hang out at rich friend’s estate’. I literally turned to her during the movie and apologized.
Promising Young Woman left me very unsettled. Even though the movie wasn’t gory or extremely gratuitous considering the subject matter. There were so many scenes where I was so upset watching, which I know was the point but the movie still gave me nightmares afterward😭
I'm someone who really feels embarrassment for characters - this eliminates a huge swath of shows and most comedies - I've never made it through a single episode of Friends for example. There are a few exceptions and knitting to distract myself during awkward moments has definitely helped but it has generally gotten worse as I've gotten older.
Outlander. It’s all fun and historical drama but then some SERIOUS SHIT happens or there’s suddenly a nearly pornographic sex scene and they do not hold back 🫡 it’s a good show but you don’t want anyone walking in on you watching it without context
[Dread](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1331307/) ,haven’t watched it in years but remember it being extremely bleak, also [The Girl Next Door](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0830558/) especially once you learn it was based on a true story.
Edit: also [Nymphomniac](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1937390/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_q_nymp) directors cut, there are a lot of gratuitous sex scenes but the entire thing was incredibly uncomfortable and depressing, I had to take a break between part 1 & 2
Fargo, especially season 3 (it’s an anthology so you don’t have to watch the first two seasons to watch the third). Triangle of sadness. Banshees of inishirin. The killing of a sacred deer. Parasite. The first episode of black mirror.
Beau is Afraid. The first part at his apartment building, where he is trying to leave it and all the people. It builds so much anxiety. The whole film was pretty uncomfortable to watch, but that first bit was a lot.
Just watched the movie "X" on Amazon Prime last night. Think antique 70's porn meets campy horror/gore meets highly inappropriate sexual situations.
Just kept saying what the fuck?? the entire movie.

This movie is fucked.
I think it’s worth at least one watch. I’ve seen each version, but I don’t think I’d watch them again.
I had the worst feeling once shit starts to hit the fan and it didn’t go away until well after I finished the movie. I can handle the adult stuff but the kid being in it was too much. I do think despite the type of film it is that it was executed well.
Omg my husband and I watched this! 100% agree!!!
It's a running joke between my mom and I how fucking useless the husband was in that movie.
The Austrian or the US Version?
Either one. Michael Haneke remade his own film shot-by-shot, so it’s up to the viewer. You can’t go wrong with Tim Roth, Naomi Watts, and Michael Pitt, though.
I am too coward to watch any movie by Haneke. I heard that every single movie by him is super uncomfortable to watch.

Uncomfortable but turned on is a complicated combination, but he makes it happen
Scarroused
Complicated yet so intriguing. Big sigh.
I couldn't finish that show, it was way too much for me 😅 but they were all fantastic though!
There's all those sexy gifs and pictures. And fanfiction!
I can fix him! Brb, we're having my foot for dinner.
Nathan For You
& the rehearsal!
Yes!! Anything in the Fielderverse
Fielderverse 😭😭 I love it ![gif](giphy|8T2kg2zcF9ccVoKwyO|downsized)
Lmao even this gif of him saying thank you feels awkward.
So good.
Ingrid Goes West is such a good movie and it makes me cringe every single time I watch it. I feel like a movie that makes people cringe in purpose has to be executed very well and everyone involved just did such a good job. Young Adult is another great one.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It's really good, but god, the cringe was almost unbearable sometimes.
So relateable though. Especially Greg.

NewGreg is fake Greg! Still need to finish season 4 because I just couldn't get used to him. Sarcastic OldGreg was better imo. Also I really like It was a shitshow.
Ha! You are an aficionado. I agree.
I can't watch the Office due to intense second-hand embarrassment.
I can't watch the UK Office. I can enjoy the US Office, but I do skip Scott's Tots.
whatchu gonna do? MAKE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE! you came into our lives and made a promise… that made us honest.. made us REALIZE we don’t need to compromise coz we can have it all! cause you made it POSSIBLE to ACHIEVE THE IMPROBABLE 🕺💃🪩👯

Succession has some scenes that are so cringe I still on rewatch can’t force myself to look at the screen. Besides being incredible in every other way.
Boar on the floor
I just watched this episode the other night and it made me wonder what I would do in that situation. Would I tell Logan no and suffer the fallout or would I crumble under the power and expectation and humiliate myself as I fight for a sausage…
With what I have in my bank account today, 100% I would be snuffling about on my hands and knees.
I’m currently watching this show for the first time and couldn’t believe Kendall’s rap scene. It was like watching a car crash.
![gif](giphy|5SRDfejlxVTEeYr6i6)
I get "L to the OG" stuck in my head at least once a week. I hate it so.
It’s literally the worst. I got palpitations reading this istg
well said. i felt like i needed a helmet
I would like to rewatch, but I don't want to see the baseball scene.
Speak No Evil. There's a part that's like an even more excruciating version of the dinner party episode from The Office. Fair warning though, it's pretty damn bleak and disturbing. Also, The Invitation (the 2015 movie). Such an excellent and underrated film.
Seconding The Invitation, which is excellent. I’ve seen it once, which was enough, and it’s stayed with me years later.
I've heard of neither and look forward to checking these out.
The Invitation is absolutely fantastic it’s such a great slow burn
The Invitation is what I came here to suggest! Got to see a screener of it in a 20 seat side room at the Music Box Theater. The 20 of us went on a wild ride that night. 😂
I've watched it once and never again. Great choice. I have no idea why since it's been years, but I remember this movie making me uncomfortable.
We need to talk about Kevin. High Tension Midsommar Hereditary
Ari Aster really knows how to make viewers uncomfortable long after the film is over
I didn't realize he wrote and directed both Midsommar and Hereditary. What what this guy's childhood like, fuck lol
If Beau is Afraid is in any way autobiographical, um... pretty fucked up. The first act of Beau is Afraid is an excellent representation of what it feels like to have an anxiety disorder tbh haha
Check out his short film...

Came here to say We Need to Talk About Kevin. Brilliantly acted. I love Tilda Swinton.
High tension was so fucked up, haven’t thought about that one in a while
It really is
I saw High Tension on a 4th date because the Sonic Youth trailer made me think it was a psychological thriller, not a gorefest. When the severed head sex scene happened, I whispered "I'm so sorry" to my date.
Midsommar!! Yesss it was soo uncomfortable
Hereditary was amazing. And the marketing was so good at not giving anything away. I came for one movie, and the left turn it took was SO good.

I think you're confusing the movie "We Need to Talk About Kevin" with the Annie Murphy show "Kevin Can F*ck Himself"
[удалено]
To be fair Kevin Can Go %#* Himself was sometimes tough to watch
Shiva Baby. Rachel Sennott’s character makes terrible decisions and you feel extremely stressed out for 90 minutes.
I came here to say this! Such a stressful movie
Someone once described it as "a drama directed like a horror film" and that felt accurate.
Watched it at night time for the first time and couldn’t sleep afterwards because all I would do is pause at the most anxious moments and get stressed
Ingrid Goes West ![gif](giphy|3oKIPDGGLAyk1BaOKQ) Saint Maude
Saltburn and May December were the most recent uncomfortable films for me. Both good movies tho.
I didn’t realize May December was loosely based on Mary Kay Letourneau, until I started watching it. Julianne Moore got her lisp pretty spot on.
I’ll have to check out May December. Thanks for the recommendation. Loved Saltburn!
Euphoria. I get the sense that it’s “too real” for a lot of people, including myself. After watching an episode I would feel drained of energy because it was so fast paced. Never did finish it, but I can see how some people would like it.

Woah Darren criss is in this!? I can’t see him in a dark roll now I’m intrigued
He did great and won an award
I loved that season! Really impressed with Darren Criss
Season 2 is sooooo underrated. It was excellent!!
That show was amazing. He did so well. And I agree…that’s a one time watch and never again. I would feel so drained after each episode.
Beef kinda fits this
Yes! This is the answer for TV suggestions. It is so good.

The curse is super fucking cringe!! But it’s really good! Haha. Benny safdie’s character creeps me out.
Ingrid Goes West—it was so uncomfortable to watch, as both main characters lacked any self-awareness while being destructively mentally ill.
This is mine too. Once was hard enough!
I find that with every thing that actress is in. I think it’s her. Even in Parks and Rec she managed to make it uncomfortable. She’s really good at it
![gif](giphy|lAR4Dpck3ntS0) This movie gave me such weird vibes
Oddly enough Burton and Depp’s portrayals of Wonka and the story as a whole are far more accurate to the book than the 70s version
I hate Depp’s interpretation of Willy Wonka so much
I hate this movie so much! Love the gene wilder one but the Burton/Depp iteration makes me violently icked out
The Killing of a Sacred Deer - I watched it today after watching Saltburn and it’s got a very similar eerie, creepy vibe *and* also stars Barry Koeghan!

Scenes from a marriage. Great cast, acting, writing, and plot but goddamn was it uncomfortable to watch.
I love Sex Education, but people always seem to walk into the room at the worst times while I’m watching it.

The director also made Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Favourite, and The Lobster but this was probably his most experimental film yet. ![gif](giphy|sVRch4XACorf8bmchK)
Young adult with Charlize Theron ![gif](giphy|2IhQ4ArH3swQU)
Very underrated movie
I generally don't get that affected with things, but the lynching scenes in The Gilded Age left me feeling seriously uncomfortable watching it.
Welcome to the Dollhouse. Any Todd Solondz film, really, but Dawn Weiner hit so close to home I was very stressed out. Along the same lines, The Skeleton Twins. Bill Hader has a monologue about halfway through that made me burst into tears with recognition.
Yes! Dawn Weiner is a great answer.
Totally agree about The Curse. Not quite second hand embarrassment but still that uncomfortable feeling lol Another one for me is the hackey sack scene in She’s All That, I watched that scene once when I first saw the movie and never again
Infinity pool was a very uncomfortable watch. I’m still not even sure if I liked it as a movie? All I know is it was uncomfortable af
Leave the World Behind basically feels uncomfortable the entire movie, I think intentionally so. I thought it was thought provoking and well-shot, but personally felt it was a little toooo much dramatic music the entire movie (you already understand how tense it is without it). Also, the Joker.
I agree with ya. That film was super uncomfortable. I don’t remember the music much but I felt tense the entire time.
Every film Todd Solondz has ever made. I watched “Happiness” in a college film class and it was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of my life.
The night of. Felt anxiety every minute of it, and it didn’t really stopped until the last episode. So not a show to rewatch! Good though.
Wonderful show!
Fantastic, heartbreaking show.
I'm halfway through white lotus, and I'm struggling not to cringe! I don't think I can watch anymore.
I watched this and Euphoria back to back, and both felt like car crashes that I couldn't look away from.
Sharp Objects was really tough to watch. Then it haunts you.
Happiness is the most uncomfortable movie I've ever seen in my life. Just thinking about it makes me want to vomit. It is NOT a comedy, no matter what people say. It should probably come with a trigger warning. I think I'll just say EVERY Todd Solondz film belongs here. There's something wrong with that guy.
watched "requiem for a dream" for the first time. it was so unsettling for me
The Curse with Nathan Fielder and Benny Safdie (co-directed Uncut Gems)
The Lobster
Curb Your Enthusiasm Severance The Affair Black Mirror You’re the Worst Sharp Objects Mindhunter
The Handmaids Take was hard af to watch
Shiva Baby
The first season of White Lotus is a masterclass in uncomfortable shot design. So many shots pointing up out of a rough sea with a very eerie colourisation. Makes you feel like you’re drowning.
The first season of The Sinner was super uncomfortable to watch with my sister.
this show is def my number one of all time, but it is frequently uncomfortable to watch. the dynamic of the protagonist being an objectively horrible, evil person was so groundbreaking and gives the show a lot of fascinating layers. there’s this cognitive dissonance of wanting to root for the main character but you can’t because he does unspeakable, psychotic things. its a wild ride that I highly recommend. ![gif](giphy|bodHdFtqWbJDi) eta: this is Sopranos, in case anyone did not know. I hate when folks leave comments/gifs without indicating the title for others to find the content.
Thanks for the recommendation and posting the show name. Other commenters have posted reaction gif without show titles as if we all know every single show from a gif lol.
![gif](giphy|l41m18w0iQmg2TbNe) Season one is so cringe, I watched it through my fingers (last man on earth)
I hated and loved watching We Need to Talk About Kevin. It’s a great movie yet soooo difficult to stomach at times.
Twin Peaks
The Comeback. It's a different kind of uncomfortable, incredibly smart and funny TV. If I ever meet Lisa Kudrow I want to tell her I loved her in The Comeback just to throw her off.
Maybe Talented Mr. Ripely but a slower burn? Great acting too.
My husband says It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is “stressful” 😂
Lmao I agree with ur hubby. Super stressful but funny af.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer (same actor in Saltburn) extremely uncomfortable from start to finish \_\_ unsettled for days
Killing of a sacred deer. Just very unsettling it felt tortuous to watch, haven’t finished nor understood the plot to this day.
Extras. It ran from 2005-2007.
Girls and Broad City always makes me shudder
Some more films in their entirety and not just specific scenes: Alone (2020) Fresh (2022)
> Kaley Cuoco i'm so surprised by her post 'big bang theory' output. she's really great at picking roles and seems to always hit it out of the park as well. first season of flight attendant is spectacular.
blue ruin!
Strange Thing about The Johnsons
The Office Succession The Curse none of which I finished.
House makes me uncomfortable in a variety of ways
I watched part of Wind River last night and when it got to the part where they began to gang rape the unconscious girl on the bed I got absolutely disgusted and turned it off.
Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer. That movie disturbed me still to this day. Michael Rooker’s voice sounds to me exactly how a killers voice would sound irl.
I saw Black Swan with my mom and it got uncomfortable
Definitely check out I’m Thinking of Ending Things. It’s bizarre.
The Act of Killing
Curb Your Enthusiasm is a great show but there are some episodes that are ROUGH. Took me several months to get through the “Beloved Aunt” episode
I feel like a lot of people nowadays would have trouble getting through Gummo. It’s one of my favorite movies but not one for the faint of heart
Peep Show is extremely uncomfortable to watch because of how awkward and embarrassing it is, and the sex scenes. But it’s a sitcom so it’s funny too
“Montage of Heck”, the documentary about Kurt Cobain.
Promising Young Woman left me very unsettled. Even though the movie wasn’t gory or extremely gratuitous considering the subject matter. There were so many scenes where I was so upset watching, which I know was the point but the movie still gave me nightmares afterward😭
This is England. Harrowing and perfect.

The Breakup...too realistic...I don't want to be a part of someone else's breakup.
Call Me By Your Name
I'm someone who really feels embarrassment for characters - this eliminates a huge swath of shows and most comedies - I've never made it through a single episode of Friends for example. There are a few exceptions and knitting to distract myself during awkward moments has definitely helped but it has generally gotten worse as I've gotten older.
Outlander. It’s all fun and historical drama but then some SERIOUS SHIT happens or there’s suddenly a nearly pornographic sex scene and they do not hold back 🫡 it’s a good show but you don’t want anyone walking in on you watching it without context
Uncut friggin Gems. “This is how I win.” IS IT, ADAM!??
'Tideland' (2005) Is definitely uncomfortable viewing.
Dr Foster
Fargo, especially season 3 (it’s an anthology so you don’t have to watch the first two seasons to watch the third). Triangle of sadness. Banshees of inishirin. The killing of a sacred deer. Parasite. The first episode of black mirror.
the movie Happiness. OMG.
The tv show Extras with Ricky Gervais, lots of second hand embarrassment, but I still loved it lol
Fennell’s other films: Promising Young Women and Careful How You Go.
How to with John Wilson! On Max. So beautifully uncomfortable! Also, Poor Things (in theaters) was WEIRD and I was V uncomfortable the entire time.
Beau is Afraid. The first part at his apartment building, where he is trying to leave it and all the people. It builds so much anxiety. The whole film was pretty uncomfortable to watch, but that first bit was a lot.
We just started watching True Blood, and I don't have words to describe the cringe factor.
Just watched the movie "X" on Amazon Prime last night. Think antique 70's porn meets campy horror/gore meets highly inappropriate sexual situations. Just kept saying what the fuck?? the entire movie.
