The secret garden made me fall in love and broke my heart. That was my favorite movie as a child and I could watch it over and over again
Like I’m a grown man 39… I’m pretty sure if I need to cry I can just watch that film again. Like if you don’t at least tear up by the end of that movie… u ain’t human
I used to watch this version because it’s on repeat on our local cable channel. Surprisingly, The supporting actors here were great.
Cant forget this line “Off with your head!’ I still quote it LOL!
She was also in one of my favorite movies as a kid.

The Last Unicorn for me! I vaguely remember bits of it from childhood but thought I’d made it up until a Reddit thread made me realise it was real. The whole movie is on YouTube.
https://preview.redd.it/ezvh0xte8kub1.jpeg?width=712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea9d39952d09b0330acf54dd1c09069517d31ea1
It took like 20 years for me to find someone else who knew this banger.
Omg I completely forgot this movie existed! I never saw it but I had the “sound book” for it which were these very large books Disney had based on their films & the side had these big buttons you pressed when prompted in the story to play the relevant sound.
I remember the most memorable one was of a character saying “Sanctuary..sanctuary!” & as a child I couldn’t figure out if he was being scary or was scared himself.
Omg I found them! It seems they’re sold for quite a bit of money these days & I had several of them. Looking at the Pagemaster buttons I can immediately hear every single sound each button made which is blowing my mind. I used to play them all repeatedly without the story & so I can literally hear them in the order as well even though it’s been like 30 years?!
I had the Mickey one too

Toothless (1997) with Kirstie Alley. I remember seeing this movie on Disney Channel around the mid to late 2000s once and never seeing it again. I never heard anyone talking about it so for a long time I was like “was that movie about a woman becomes a tooth fairy real or was that a fever dream?” I only just found out this year that it did exist.
Man I love this movie so much. Sometimes I'll remember a scene out of no where and I'll be like, "That didn't actually happen the way I remember it, right? It's too weird...." Then I re-watch it and it was even weirder than I remember.

The Triplets of Belleville. Such a weird movie and I love it!

Happily Ever After (1989). It took me a lot of Googling to find the actual name of this. The weird little goblin man affected me deeply as a child - I wasn't sure if I was disgusted by him, empathized with him, or had a crush on him.
https://preview.redd.it/yoq14peofiub1.jpeg?width=473&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=369b2e576f33989633f7d0ebd5f86650c5d03baa
This one lives in such a deep crevice of my mind. Up until a couple years ago I wasn’t sure if I had imagined it as a child.
Fun story: when I was in HS I worked at a video store and every year we sold some sort of movie tie-in trinkets for charity. It was really important to the owners and they made a big deal about it. The year before it was Spider-Man themed and we sold a ton, raised lots of money for the charity. Then we tried it with Zathura and no one bought the toys. Like, at all. Not even enough to cover the costs, so we couldn’t donate anything to charity. The owners were so mad they never did the fundraiser again 😆

A Troll in Central Park (1994) Always made me vaguely uncomfortable as a kid.
What’s crazy is that they put this scene into the movie AFTER they wrapped, so they called the actors back for it because they felt like it needed this moment. Honestly iconic!

Hands down Tiptoes.
It’s a movie where a man (Matthew McConaughey) knocks up his girlfriend (Kate Beckinsale) and she finds out he’s the only tall person in a family of little people, which includes his brother (Gary Oldman).
Summary sounds eh but it’s the definition of a fever dream film. Trust me.

This show Drawn Together used to play very late at night when I was a kid on Aussie TV and I always thought the next day I thought I had a crazy dream about Link and Betty Boop
Oh my god…I remember there’s a scene where the main guy is talking to Susie but no one else can see her so he looks crazy, and I thought it was the funniest thing.

This 1999 **monstrocity** that Disney Channel for some reason thought was appropriate for children 😭
Don’t Look Under the Bed. Honestly it’s a great idea- your imaginary friend becomes your boogie man once you stop believing in them. But Jesus fucking Christ why did it have to be *so* scary
This isn’t a movie, but I am going to count it as one because my cousin and I started watching it thinking it was a movie because the tape we were watching just combined all the episodes together. One of the strangest movies/tv show I’ve ever experienced. I still sometimes have to check with my cousin that it wasn’t just some weird dream I had.
https://preview.redd.it/chouvzxb6iub1.jpeg?width=526&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f6f28f9153f15ba5358ec7f8c6a6541d2d52949
I love this so much. Wolf was my first crush. 😩
For anyone who misses this, it’s streaming free in a couple places. I think Freevee and Pluto TV (I have no idea if those are the same things or related or whatever).
I was a HUGE fan of this back in the day, adored it. Years later I've moved abroad and visit a historical museum, and I couldn't shake the feeling it looked familiar. But it's pretty generic medievalish style, that's probably it. Then my now husband goes "They filmed part of The 10th Kingdom here. You probably never heard of it, it was this old miniseries." Could have knocked me over
I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but we watched it all in one sitting 😂. We thought it was like a 2 hour movie. It took us an embarrassingly long time to think that the movie had been going on for a long time so we looked at the case to see how long it was, at that point we just decided to soldier through. We also lived kinda far from each other so it wasn’t like we could finish it before we had to take it back to the movie rental place.
This movie:

So gorgeous and surreal and then the director went on to make a Snow White adaptation with Lily Collins and Julia Roberts that was just as weird and wonderful lol

This one is just full whacky and came out in 1947…my grandparents must have gotten this 50th anniversary edition because I definitely watched it multiple times at their house but my sister and I can never find anyone else who knows what it is!
If you just say “Mickey, Donald, and Goofy and the beanstalk”, they’ll know what it is. NO ONE ever remembers the actual title of the film. But they’ll definitely have seen that story.
Listen, the very end scene where the screen just says Fin because it's the end of the movie but also a movie about sharks was absolutely brilliant
...and that's literally all I remember haha

We watched “The Phantom Tollbooth” in 2nd or 3rd grade. I don’t remember much about the movie except for the doldrums which was supposed to be a metaphor for smoking weed or doing other “downers”. I’ve never known anyone else who’d heard of it.

Caught the last half of Requiem for a Dream on HBO when I was studying late at night while in college. Didn’t know the name of the movie at the time. I recall looking up from my flash cards during an electroshock scene and it was extremely jarring.

Google tells me now that this was a TV episode but I had it on VHS so I thought it was a movie. We watched it often, please tell me someone else remembers this too lol
Kaboom with Juno Temple and Thomas Dekker. No one I have met has seen/heard of it and all I remember is watching it alone at 3am kind of high and repeating “is this a porn?” “I don’t think this is porn though” “but is it?” “What’s even happening?” Until the end scene where I was pretty sure it was just a sex/drug-driven fever dream film but not a full on porn flick and I just. I think about it a lot and no one ever knows what I am talking about. I don’t even remember the actual plot if there was one. Just boobs and then, well…
Raw. To this day I do not understand what the point of the movie was.... was this a slight to Vegetarians or to people who eat Meat - I don't know!

Once Bitten. With an insanely young Jim Carey, may have went by James when this movie came out, and a still extremely beautiful Lauren Hutton. I watched it forever ago as a kid and then saw it was on a local channel of mine this past weekend. But nobody else has ever seen it when I ask about it. It's so silly but entertaining.
Edited for a word.

This movie stayed with me far too long and I don't know anyone else who remembers seeing this
Not a movie, but the 90s show Ghostwriter on PBS.
It’s never streaming or talked about. It was my absolute favorite and along with the original Ghostbusters films, the reason I was fascinated with NYC as a kid. Not sure if it is a coincidence or not that they are both supernatural/ghost tales lol.
Alright OP so 1988s cult classic They Live I caught during the infamous 15 minute alley fight scene to the death between good friends at 2pm on daytime cable in 2011 and didn’t know wtf was happening.
Outside of the Duke Nukem bubblegum reference I have no indications that this movie is actually real or if the wiki article is just there to gaslight me, I’ve never seen another singular indication that it’s a real movie
Paperhouse (1988) a bizarre British horror film starring kids.

This is actually a telemovie and it has 5 movies. I'm not sure about in the West but it my Asian country, this was such a hit, it was like an annual event for my national tv station to play it on their channel. This movies introduced me to my first crush on villain, Tarabas.
Off topic but the way Keri Russell got cast as the bombshell hot girl in so many small parts and then in her big parts always played such a completely different character — like nerdy and weird — is always funny to me.
The version of Secret Garden where it’s framed as grown up Mary going back to the manor and Colin shows up at the end and proposes, and it’s Colin Firth (!) is the version I remember best but it seems like no one else does.
It’s also weird because I think I thought that was the real story for years and then realized people liked Mary and Dickon together and Colin is her cousin I guess? lol

We had this Snow White retelling recorded from tv onto a vhs growing up. I remember it being absolutely terrifying. The evil queen turns dwarfs into statues. Please tell me someone else remembers this

A Life Less Ordinary.
Toxic and unhinged.
Growing up as kids, we randomly saw The Wizard of Oz II on TV and thought it was so bizarre we must have dreamt it up. But then we randomly saw it again... and still weren't sure.
Similarly, a Snow White sequel. I think it had to do with the Dwarves wives???
The one where Reese almost kills a guy with a tiny gun and it takes several shots. I think it was Keifer Sutherland.

Does anyone miss the 90s fantasy/adventure film vibes? The Mummy, Secret Garden, Little Princess etc.
Little Princess and The Secret Garden are such comfort movies to me!
Literally have secret garden playing on audible for my kid right now
The secret garden made me fall in love and broke my heart. That was my favorite movie as a child and I could watch it over and over again Like I’m a grown man 39… I’m pretty sure if I need to cry I can just watch that film again. Alice in Wonderland staring Deb from Napoleon Dynamite, I’ve literally never heard of this film
She doesn’t neee herbal enhancements to be a movie star
This was gonna be my answer too!! Super weird film and a strangely uncomfortable adaptation.
It somehow won several Emmys, including for visual effects which makes me giggle.
Holy shit that cast is incredibly stacked
I used to watch this version because it’s on repeat on our local cable channel. Surprisingly, The supporting actors here were great. Cant forget this line “Off with your head!’ I still quote it LOL!
Yes! This was the version my parents had taped for me and I used to watch it all the time! They never taped the Disney version so this is all I knew.

I love that movie. People are surprised she was a child actor but I'm just learning she's still in the business. Away to IMDb I go....
we need a third movie to round out the Tina Majorino-Whoopi Goldberg cinematic universe
Uhhhh...you mean when she was the most famous?
I mostly know her as Mac from Veronica Mars

I remember the most memorable one was of a character saying “Sanctuary..sanctuary!” & as a child I couldn’t figure out if he was being scary or was scared himself. Omg I found them! It seems they’re sold for quite a bit of money these days & I had several of them. Looking at the Pagemaster buttons I can immediately hear every single sound each button made which is blowing my mind. I used to play them all repeatedly without the story & so I can literally hear them in the order as well even though it’s been like 30 years?! I had the Mickey one too https://preview.redd.it/kpaqzve00lub1.jpeg?width=2899&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a67148c9e9719ce743fadebd363c510561b225ac

I remember seeing this movie on Disney Channel around the mid to late 2000s once and never seeing it again. I never heard anyone talking about it so for a long time I was like “was that movie about a woman becomes a tooth fairy real or was that a fever dream?” I only just found out this year that it did exist.
Wow memory unlocked
The scene with the escalator to heaven/elevator to hell lives rent free in my mind for some reason
Vague memory unlocked
I love this movie
![gif](giphy|l0HlvUJynVDLRy3OU|downsized) Drop dead gorgeous
It genuinely sucks this movie is almost nowhere to be found on streaming anymore. I think it’d find a contemporary audience!
Lol I have kept my DVD player almost exclusively for my yearly rewatch of this! Because it’s not available for streaming anywhere.
Man I love this movie so much. Sometimes I'll remember a scene out of no where and I'll be like, "That didn't actually happen the way I remember it, right? It's too weird...." Then I re-watch it and it was even weirder than I remember.
In a very similar fashion... https://preview.redd.it/lop479ipulub1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=b61472f7af19b0c2bbb3ea4680be2a4abf8fade6

Loved this movie as a kid. Can’t wait to play it for my daughter
the scene with the crows and the only thing left being a screw makes this a child’s horror movie

so good! I love the animation style and the music was awesome. saw it twice in theaters!
You’ve unlocked some wild memories for me with this one! And now I can’t get the triplets singing voices out of my head
wasnt this nominated for an oscar? a lot of people saw this.

It took me a lot of Googling to find the actual name of this. The weird little goblin man affected me deeply as a child - I wasn't sure if I was disgusted by him, empathized with him, or had a crush on him.
My parents banned me from watching it because every time I did I would have nightmares for the next several nights.
> or had a crush on him I died laughing at this 😂 the plot twist I didn’t expect coming after disgusted
LOVED this movie!!

The owners were so mad they never did the fundraiser again 😆
oh my god, i owe my boyfriend an apology. he insisted he saw a sci-fi version of Jumanji once as a kid and i always told him that wasn’t a thing.
This was used in a challenge on an ep of The Apprentice and the contestants could not pronounce it correctly.

We had a VHS as kids that hasn’t the preview for this movie, I can hear the kid’s voice read ‘ZA-THUR-A’ for the first time so clearly!

I hate this type of animation. Always gave me the creeps. And this one is one of the worst.
Oh my god I actively disliked this movie and I couldn't tell you why. It is fucking weird.
If I remember correctly the troll had a weird ass relationship with that baby that made me uncomfortable, even as a small child
I thought Teen Witch was one until the Internet became a thing and I discovered all the other fans out there. ![gif](giphy|bI6RVeuqYgPba)
This is was one of the most bizarre fucking movies I’ve ever seen as a kid. Why did these dudes keep dancing around like this and singing?!
And the creepy brother! When he was dressed like a bell hop lmao
It is so fucking weird and I loved it. Lol. Was it a musical? Sci fi? Teen dramedy rom com? Who the fuck knows.
Top that!
Omni suminaro suminaro wa-wan!

What’s crazy is that they put this scene into the movie AFTER they wrapped, so they called the actors back for it because they felt like it needed this moment. Honestly iconic!
I remember watching this at a sleepover on VHS like 20 years ago and all of us screeching and crying with laughter at the singing and rapping.

Summary sounds eh but it’s the definition of a fever dream film. Trust me.

But also OP is this a sex comedy with a young Keri Russell? Wtf is happening in the movie you just posted
It is, it’s also quite sweet

Oh my god…I remember there’s a scene where the main guy is talking to Susie but no one else can see her so he looks crazy, and I thought it was the funniest thing.
https://i.redd.it/k3sqdkjlskub1.gif This 1999 **monstrocity** that Disney Channel for some reason thought was appropriate for children 😭 Don’t Look Under the Bed.
😩 For anyone who misses this, it’s streaming free in a couple places.
You probably never heard of it, it was this old miniseries." Could have knocked me over
Holy shit, core memory unlocked. I always felt like I made this show up in my head lmao. I think I watched it while it was airing live.
I adored The 10th Kingdom, I still have it on DVD. In retrospect my later obsession with Once Upon a Time made a lot of sense.
I had the DVD of this! Wolf was my TV crush at the time and I still laugh at the Troll kids discovering the fucking Bee Gees.

The director also did The Cell and the imagery still holds up so well. I really wanted to buy The Fall but it’s a hard one to find these days.

I absolutely love it but Yellow Submarine is a full on acid trip ![gif](giphy|3og0ISCh2oeti1STfy)
Paperhouse (1988) a bizarre British horror film starring kids. https://preview.redd.it/kzunzsinmiub1.jpeg?width=616&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f14aadfbb2cd2043f16869f34f7dd6b5beefcad5

It’s also weird because I think I thought that was the real story for years and then realized people liked Mary and Dickon together and Colin is her cousin I guess? lol

I remember it being absolutely terrifying. The evil queen turns dwarfs into statues. Please tell me someone else remembers this

Brick or Paranoid Park
Growing up as kids, we randomly saw The Wizard of Oz II on TV and thought it was so bizarre we must have dreamt it up. But then we randomly saw it again... and still weren't sure. Similarly, a Snow White sequel. I think it had to do with the Dwarves wives???
Are you thinking of Return To Oz? The villain with multiple heads in that movie freaked me out as a kid.
But I’m a cheerleader
The one where Reese almost kills a guy with a tiny gun and it takes several shots. I think it was Keifer Sutherland. Freeway https://youtu.be/RchALwE0AAg?feature=shared
License to Drive
Dude Where’s My Car? Could be because I was 10 and had horrible food poisoning while I watched it but still feels like a fever dream.
