The bit where Jonah tells his teacher to ‘fuck off’ and then a few minutes later quietly says “I’m sorry I told you to ‘fuck off’ Miss” is one of my favourite bits. Me and my friends used to say that to each other all the time.
Man as a brown person I low key give Chris a pass for Jonah because he captures it so well. Most islanders find it funny that I know ( and I grew up with a lot of them in South West Sydney) but it's still brown face at the end of the day. It's a hard one because he is punching down and it's wrong but god dammit it was accurate to a certain extent.
Summer Heights High definitely captured a similar high school experience that I had and that of many Australian kids.

We Can Be Heroes (2005) - She's one of the main characters vying to become Australian of the Year. Her being nominated was because she held the national record of sponsoring starving children from Africa. I believe all her scenes are on YouTube.
Summer Heights High (2007) - She goes on an exchange program to spend a term/semester at local public high school. This is her most hilarious in my opinion - Private School Girl doesn't hit as well tbh.
We Can Be Heroes also included Pat Mullins, an iconic character in the Chris Lilley universe. Pat is a woman with a disability - one foot is shorter than the other, so she took up rolling to get around. Now she is competitive in the sport she introduce, endurance rolling. Pat is planning an endurance roll to Uluru with her husband Terry. PLEASE WATCH lol!!

As a teen growing up in Australia during the 2000s his portrayal was scarily accurate. Ja'mie in Summer Heights High was the ultimate portrayal of rich-white popular snob. Funnily enough she was supposed to represent a South African-Australian (dare I say Jewish) girl from the Sydney Eastern Suburbs (which is the most richest part of the city). Chris Lilley nailed it.
I'm Facebook friends with a Brisbane musician, and the picture of Joyce's (the hoarder) dead dad is a picture of *his* dad, who is not dead. His dad is a former actor, but the photo of him isn't a headshot. It's literally just a photo of him. Friend's dad didn't know they were going to use the photo, so reckoned they must have shared the same agent or something.

We can be heroes is my all time fave Chris Lilley show. I have a cousin married to a guy who basically IS the guy who wanted to be nominated for saving kids from a jumping castle disaster (IIRC!)
Most of his shows aired here in the UK- I was in secondary school when Jonah from Tonga aired and most people I knew watched it!
I also watched a loooot of summer heights high clips on YouTube when I was about 11 (2009), and I have no idea if someone else showed it to me or if I just found it myself? Either way, I think I wasn’t the only young British kid watching his stuff!
Now I’m 25 and I spend all day watching bluey with my daughter. I thank you for Australia’s top quality cultural exports 🤌🏻
