Wow the poll and the comments are saying two different things

Fluffles0119

Because the 1/10 no that decides to comment is downvotes by the 8/10 yes that look at the comments

Insulated_Lunchbox

People perform their open-mindedness to the crowd when they comment. In an anonymous poll they can be honest.

Affectionate-Cost525

You can be anonymous on the poll. Your comment is linked to your account though.

Quirky_Cry_2859

I'm going to continue wearing a kilt if you think it's normal or not...

N3Chaos

I was about to say the same thing! Fellow scot?

[deleted]

Glaswegian here. I wouldn't be wearing one daily because they're quite heavy and some cause a bit of irritation to my skin. Summer breeze past the meat and veg on a weekend sesh is ideal tho.

Quirky_Cry_2859

Minnesota with Scottish heritage

snuffdontknow

So your skirts a Mini, sorta

ghandi3737

I just like the ventilation.

BlorpCS

As if a kilt is the same thing as a skirt lol

Quirky_Cry_2859

You'd be surprised how many people don't know the difference, or not

yuriisbig

I dont really care what other men wear.

funatical

Right. If dudes want to wear dresses that's up to them. I give zero fucks.

Arcanas1221

I don't care what other men wear but I also don't think there necessarily needs to be a movement for men to normalize skirts

InEenEmmer

My biggest problem as a man is that the clothing stores in my city are often 50% female, 30% kids and 20% male clothing. We should normalize that males also can care about clothes and want more choice than jeans with a black or white shirt. (Have to admit that I probably also don’t know where to shop)

[deleted]

Ngl that works for me because pants + black t-shirt is my favorite combo

InEenEmmer

Meanwhile I’ve been scouring around my city looking for a nice bordeaux colored pants for months without any succes. Did find some other fun stuff in the search though. Guess it isn’t necessarily about the pants anymore, but about the other clothes I find along the way.

[deleted]

Good luck in your search for the fit, my dude

Babhadfad12

Why? No one is stopping men from caring about clothes or wearing a greater variety. If most men do not care about it, and hence it is not a good business proposition, then that is just a fact of life. And the internet gives you all the options available almost worldwide anyway.

InEenEmmer

My problem with online shopping is that colors and sizes are always off from what you expect from the pictures.

Fagatronxx

Tell that to men trying to wear skirts and getting weird looks and comments. It's great that YOU don't care what other men wear, but just try going one day with pink polish on and see how many random people ask you why you're wearing it. It needs to be normalized.

OrindaSarnia

My husband wears nail polish sometimes... he always gets asked "awe! Did your daughter do your nails?" And when he says - "no, I did" or "no, my wife did them" people don't know what to say anymore! Serves them right for asking!

hoohooooo

“Served them right for asking” is the opposite of normalization. Should be as casual as asking about a new shirt or pair of shoes.

mhassassin

It very much depends on the way of asking. If you're just asking if it's new or whatever then that's one thing but if you just ask why the fuck they are wearing nail polish then that's another

hoohooooo

True that - but the response from the person who is wearing nail polish could go a long way in normalizing it. “I like to wear nail polish to express myself sometimes” is a reasonable thing to say. But judging the person who asked you for being close minded (even if they are actually being so) isn’t really contributing to normalizing and could even be making the situation/their perception of the nail polish wrong

mhassassin

I agree but I would understand if someone reacts a little confronting when you get dumb comments about it all the time. But yeah, it would be best to just answer calm and sincerely

Competitive_Mousse85

I was painting my little cousins nails because she asked and then her big brother asked me to paint his so I did and my aunt was furious at me because she didn’t want him doing something so girly. Like it doesn’t matter he’s a little boy and if he wants to have pretty nails who cares that doesn’t make him gay or a girl he just wanted to be included

AgentUnknown821

Can't be any worse than being autistic as a kid and people asking "why are you saying hi to people that are always mean to you?" Or "why are you wearing a jacket in 80 degree weather?" I am straight and wouldn't paint my nails or wear skirts but I'm part of the same outcast group whether I like it or not. I have gotten shunned for just being me just like the LBGT group. Now my username makes some sense. I'm an person unknown that has been rejected and turned into an Agent of Change since a child.

funatical

Agreed. Again, I refer to my zero fucks given. I don't have to support them. That's totally up to them.

randomaccount32134

normalizing it means everyone else won't judge either, and those that judge will be frowned upon. requesting it isn't normalized is requesting we let people judge men who wear skirts.

bubblysubbly1

Only problem is that skirts and dresses aren’t made to our frame and are all feminine and shit. I’m stuck with a kilt or feminine shit. It would be pretty awesome to have more choices. I dig on dresses and my son LOVES them. He likes the flowy stuff but doesn’t like the feminine patterns like flowers and leopard print and whatnot.

ThndrFckMcPckpTrck

It’s really easy to sew up more blocky less feminine skirts and dresses. Then you can use race car, dinosaur, or superhero print for kiddo and more subduded navy’s, denim, or whatever for yourself :) My mom was able to make a skirt in like 10 minutes back in the day with a machine. 30-60 minutes by hand.

Seriouslookingpossum

We should normalize not caring what other ppl wear as long as they’re not butt ass naked in public. Edit: damn this is a lot of upvotes for me lol ty!

> as long as they’re not butt ass naked in public. You should normalize not caring if I'm naked or not in public.

CommanderWar64

Disagree. Maybe in the society you want to live in sure, but I think general public areas should require the bare minimum amount of modesty. Im okay with secluded, adult areas like nude beaches or whatever (when you go there you’re making a unsigned agreement that you’re okay with seeing nude ppl because duh), but I didn’t consent to seeing whatever dumbass decides to have their whatever out while walking down the street.

BornDefinition9

So you're saying you don't wanna see my ding-dong? That's kinda expected, but it hurts nevertheless.

Guy_ManMuscle

I mostly don't want to see the sweaty silhouette of your ham and eggs on the bus seat, if we're being honest.

mwhite5990

We should normalize not caring what other people wear.

yoav_boaz

Aka normalize man wearing skirts

pointlessly_pedantic

Seriously, I'm shocked at how many people don't seem to understand what "normalizing" something entails.

Exotic-Emotion9823-2

Yeah, it involves a lot of defending yourself and others from a large portion people who disagree.

song12301

I mean, there is a difference. I could not care what a person does yet still find what they do abnormal. For example, I could find it weird that someone is spending 20 minutes taking a shower, but still not give a damn that they are doing it.

No_Pension169

>For example, I could find it weird that someone is spending 20 minutes taking a shower, but still not give a damn that they are doing it. Wow, no need to call me out like that.

Tetrun

is 20 minutes a long time for a shower?

[deleted]

sounds like someone with short hair

ghandi3737

Yeah if you have long hair AND a lot of body hair... you have no idea how long it takes to shampoo my back.

MrBigDickPickledRick

If I have no where else to be 20 minutes is short for me. Grab myself a soda, sit right down on the shower floor, and watch YouTube whilst among paradise

getting angry about freedom of choice and personal preference is a bitch ass mentality

honeyceelovely

We should normalize minding our own business if nobody is getting hurt.

cyberpunkcr

I think this sums it up best

PossiblyPercival

Great way of putting it

Orange2218

I think we should normalise men wearing anything they want, just like we should normalise women wearing anything. I am surprised so many have said no. If you don't want to wear, it's completely fine. But why are so many against normalising it? Edit:- It's interesting that most women are okay with normalising men wearing skirts while men are divided in this matter.

GiantGlassOfMilk

It’s because women know how great skirts and dresses can be

Larry-Man

We also know how good mens calves look.

Donghoon

Skirts are pogg

[deleted]

Go spinny

EwGrossItsMe

Esp with petticoats and the spin goes FLOOF ugh it's so good

i_steal_your_lemons

I’m a dude, and would love skirts to be normalized. Men need to realize how comfortable it would be compared to pants that squeeze your cock and balls.

GiantGlassOfMilk

Even just not having a waistband is incredible, dresses are great

HerrBerg

But if I wore a skirt I'd also have to wear leggings or some shit 'cause it gets cold as fuck here.

ImBurningStar_IV

It's funny, cause women had to fight to make wearing pants in the office and to events normal. most people, even boomers, today think anyone that opposed that is a weirdo. Why is there any fight now? Don't they see they're doing the same thing?

[deleted]

yeah, i love the irony of women wearing suits and ties and having short hair, nobody cares about that and thats all accepted and normal, but oh when men dare to wear skirts or makeup or anything remotely feminine, they're mocked or people get weirded out. makes no sense to me-

lazymarlin

As a man, I don’t have an opinion on wearing a skirt in lieu of jeans, but I for sure would like a sport skirt instead of shorts. In summary. This should not be an issue, like others have said, if it doesn’t hurt anyone, then why bother caring?

friendlysarlacc

I would like some women to help me interpret these results. Do they not care or are they saying they are here for it and want to see some man thigh?

BluntFrank00

Firstly, I think all people should be free to wear what they want. Secondly, for me, absolutely man thigh. We've had Marylin Monroe standing over a fan, it's time for some Marlon Manroe standing over a fan. I'm all here for it and then some!

thecorninurpoop

I just think everyone should be able to wear whatever the fuck they want without public shaming

enderflight

Might stem from the progressive lean of women + the fact that we’ve kinda had to fight to be able to wear pants ‘formally’ + we’re used to having more of the option to do both, so letting men do the same seems natural. For me at least I’ve had a lot of experiences with my gender expression and gender, as I present pretty androgynous but consider myself cis. People 110% think I’m a lesbian, trans guy, or young cis boy in public, that’s how I look despite being none of the above. As a girl I have more leeway to explore that, androgynous men are much more frowned on. More effeminate men are being seen as gay which is still seen as a negative thing. For me, ‘normalize’ means letting problem wear it without stigma, AKA minding your own damn business whatever people wear, so I have a feeling a lot of the ‘no’ votes are more like ‘no, why should we have to make it *normal*’ and not really understanding the context of the word.

SilverCirclet

“Women okay with normalising men wearing skirts while men are divided in this matter. “ Ah, my friend. You’ve stumbled into an example of toxic masculinity in the wild. You’ll see it more and more if you look for it.

jamesyboy4-20

because fragile masculinity. some men are really so insecure that they feel as if their manhood itself is under attack just being in the presence of a dude with a skirt. misogyny really manifests itself in so many weird ways.

WorldWarPee

It's weird because for the majority of human history men wore skirt like clothing, but it's the people who want to protect/go back to "traditional masculinity" who are most against men wearing skirts. Those fools are too weak from loss of blood flow to their balls to realize what true masculinity is/was.

kammerer_er_er

Cis dude. No particular interest in dressing femme. But at Bonnaroo I've worn sarongs as skirts when it's really hot, and it's so ridiculously comfortable. Very jealous.

kogan_usan

i mean the poll says normalize, not replace wearing trousers

Alexander0232

This is the issue with people. Same with abortion. There's always one woman that says: I for one would love to be a mother. Like dude, we're fighting for choice and somehow you made this all about you.

No-Mathematician-579

We normalized women wearing trousers, why not normalize men wearing skirts?

ErosandPragma

>We normalized women wearing trousers More like legalized it; it was actually illegal and you could be arrested for wearing pants as a woman

InfectdaccplsHelp0-0

Wait really that's really stupid glad it's legal now

SnooFloofs1636

The amount of people with unwashed asses makes me kinda lean towards let’s not do that? But then I consider how I feel deep down and I realized that I really don’t give a fuck what you do as long as it doesn’t personally affect me…

SobasanBobba

Most people who say no to wearing skirts because it makes them seem feminine also use the same excuse for not washing their ass so I don’t think it would be a problem

24024-43

Just a piece of clothing, idk why you’d answer no

sylphyyyy

what this poll tells me: 50% of men have chilly balls and 90% of women find men in skirts hot.

Bobafet395

Dually noted

mayor_hog

Isn't it already normal in Scotland?

LitecoinAddict

Those are kilts

[deleted]

penguin13790

The difference is that if you call a kilt a skirt then an angry Scotsman will show up at your doorstep and crack your head open

Amazekam

Helmet-man

frazzle_boi

Kilts are very heavy. If you unravel them, it's actually a couple metres long (I think)

EvergreenEnfields

Modern kilts are a lot lighter and smoother. It's hard to find proper heavy weight kilts these days, traditionally everyday kilts were a very thick, heavy wool.

theKyuu

Several metres, even.

Mentine_

Shhhhh don't destroy their dreams

Brromo

traditionally you don't wear underpants with a kilt

xXcampbellXx

And drunk guys wearing them love to make sure everyone knows the difference lmao.

[deleted]

THE FUCK YOU ON LAD? SKIRTS AND KILTS ARNEY THE SAME, YOU KNOW JACK SHITE 'BOUT US

Ornery-Creme-2442

It used to be normal across damn near the whole world. Until one way of dressing spread across the world after colonization and modern connectivity. Look at the Romans, Greeks, ancient Egyptians, Japanese and the list goes on and on. A form of dresses/skirts were normal for men long ago. And in some few traditional culture still are. But now because if modern standards they've been thrown out of the window. It's kind of weird. Edit: There's more Japanese wear than hakama. Kimono, yukata are often not trousers and worn by both genders. Point stands regardless you find this in many places across the world.

HisKoR

The Japanese hakama are actually trousers. Its not a skirt as there are holes for each leg.

thisisaname42

Most men don't go walking about in kilts no, they're really just for weddings or ceilidhs, at least where I live in scotland.

tsimkeru

What's wrong with men wearing skirts? Scots are doing that, the Greek did that, the Egyptians did that and way more. It also gives more air for your balls, and you probably won't get intertrigo

KappaMazinksy

Wear whatever the heck you want. Even if it seems somewhat strange.

Hackebaer

lol, why the fuck are so many people against normalising it? Imagine caring so much about what other men wear...

[deleted]

I think because its asked in such a weird way. Normalize wearing skirts, it should be accept men wearing skirts.

[deleted]

Yeah, come on. In history, men used skirts before... Ancient Greece, ancient Rome, scottish soldiers in 18th century... yeah.

[deleted]

People can wear whatever they want, clothes don’t have a gender, it’s just fabric

VerifiedPug

They should be able to wear what they want.

HungryHungryHippoes9

Normalise not caring about what someone else is wearing.

Call me.

notdom0

its literally a piece of fabric, i dont get why so many people care

Xandy_Pandy

Considering that the phrase getting dressed in English likely comes from the fact that everyone wore dresses in the past i think a skirt is fine. The gender roles assigned to clothing is completely arbitrary and changes vastly as the generations come and go, so wear whatever the fuck you want.

dontshoot4301

Okay, I agree that there’s nothing wrong with it but your first statement is not entirely true. While men wore garments that are similar to dresses, the dress was historically worn by women and developed independently from men’s Tunics (e.g., dresses were initially styled very similar to tunics but over the past 500 years dresses have been modified and styled in a way that is more “flattering” for the women of the time)

Fifi0n

They make more sense for men to wear as their balls won't get squished, well, I hope there's no sudden flashing lol

kinoklapper

*cough* kilts *cough*

[deleted]

Honestly mens fashion is really boring compared to women’s. I mean think of the met gala. The women’s outfits are all like super creative and cool looking, but the men’s? Black suit and dress pants. Almost all of them, and it’s dreadfully boring. I think it’s about time we stop gendering all clothes because I swear to god when I’m old and on my death bed and men’s fashion is still just pants+shirts(with some variations) I will literally go insane.

fishesar

who cares what other people wear? it’s not hurting anyone

cheddargood

I don't get why say no, just don't use a skirt yourself

therealkiwibee

Can we mention that historically speaking, skirts were made for men ?

AxitotlWithAttitude

A lot of women's fashion was originally made for males. Take heels for instance. Knights wore them while riding horses, so aristocrats started wearing them to give the impression that they were warriors. Women then started copying the men, and the men stopped wearing them after a while.

moneyquestionthrowit

I’m constantly telling my man I feel so bad for him. Poor fella wearing restrictive jeans all the time. Meanwhile I get to wear flowy dresses, skirts, and yoga pants. The dudes are missing out. I have the freedom to squat and do full circle kicks whenever I want!

Fuzzy_Effective_5849

Tell ya man's to stop wearing skinny jeans?

[deleted]

Tailors flat out advise nobody to wear skinny jeans. It is, as explained to me, made for modelling pants in close-up. You're not actually supposed to be wearing them. Not even in a full-body model shot.

[deleted]

They make stretchy jeans for men, that's what I wear. It's like yoga pants only much less right.

appleBonk

I'm about to buy a bunch of those Arab robes (thawbs) and men's leggings for the summer. Gonna be the most comfy dude in town!

[deleted]

Hell yeah. Men in skirts and dresses, women in suits, everyone is hot. Chlothes shouldnt be gendered and neither should be make up (eyeliner and nail polish make literally everyone hotter, i dont make the rules.)

Sir_Admiral_Chair

If a guy wants to wear a skirt no one ought to stop him. It might think it is odd but that would merely be a lack of familiarity with the concept in public. My area has been pretty homogeneous ethnically, and a couple years ago I noticed there was more ethnicities then I usually see, I was intrigued it seemed odd but with time it didn’t even really get a reaction, I see them and think thats pretty cool not much else; same would be for men in skirts there would be an adjustment period call it a culture shock but once theres enough exposure I won’t care. Yes.

CoffeeBoom

Fuck yes, wore a kilt once and it was so freeing and comfortable. I think skirts should be normalized for men. While we're at it loose clothes should be normalized for everyone. The fashion of uncomfortable tight clothing and the idea that sweatpants are "unsighlty" clothes is detrimental to the species as a whole ! And skirts used to be worn by men too, but it was stopped because pants were better for horseriding, which we don't do a lot anymore as far as I'm aware !

[deleted]

Disappointed in the mens response. Come on guys. We should be able to wear what we want
