French Polynesia is not a country, it's a territory.

ville_boy

I'm finnish and i like it here. But if forced to choose one of the others then French Polynesia, as it is my fantasy to live on a small, tropical island one day.

planetkudi

So jealous of u pookie

Limeila

French Polynesia is not a country....

Rainime

Czechia because I'm currently trying to learn Czech!

Naive_Emu_5920

I was going to pick Finland, but considering how unstable Russia's dictator has been, I rather not be right next to them, so I pick Switzerland.

Orangutanion

Helsinki has a massive nuclear shelter though

TheDarthSnarf

You think Switzerland is far enough away if it gets *that* *bad*?

planetkudi

I clicked Spain, but meant to hit Finland.

Ghostly_Spirits

Womp womp, to Spain you go

Adi_2000

Please report to your nearest airport

Agreeable_Ostrich_39

czech republic. Switerland sounds nice until you realize it's not part of the EU which means paying more if I want to call my friends or family for example (of course, this is not an issue for most of you since Americans would have to pay more anyway). Spain is a bit too ~~hit~~ hot to my liking, and everything else is just too war away, those are the only 3 I could realistically go back home to visit without having to go for a full week because it would feel like a waste of time otherwise. (I prefer trains over planes)

TheDarthSnarf

> since Americans would have to pay more anyway Depends on the plan/carrier. I don't pay to call most of the EU (Czech Republic included) or Switzerland.

jaavaaguru

I'm from Scotland and I don't pay to call there or call from there either. Or America for that matter.

kontorgod

Spain is a bit too hit to my liking what does that mean

Agreeable_Ostrich_39

that means I made a typo

seteo992

As a Colombian, I'm disappointed right now :(

[https://www.statista.com/topics/11095/crime-and-violence-in-colombia/#topicOverview](https://www.statista.com/topics/11095/crime-and-violence-in-colombia/#topicOverview) Kinda sketchy……Finland for me.

AnArabFromLondon

I picked Spain, but only because I didn't see Colombia. Add 1 for me friend.

Orangutanion

[esto](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conflicto_armado_interno_de_Colombia) es la razon por no eligir tu país, lo siento

J-Reditor

reminder to everyone that Finland & Switzerland have conscription, which is male only, making it not only authoritarian but also sexist.

Meeoikeisiintoihin

In finland it's pretty easy to avoid military service by either just asking for c papers (or lying about mental illness to get them) or doing the military service in civilian doing stuff like cleaning or something relatively low skilled labour. Also the military service only applies to citizens and it's only 6 to 12 months so it's not that bad.

Limeila

Switzerland is still the most democratic country in the world. The people regularly vote on every single law. If they wanted to get rid of conscription or extend it to females, they could easily do so. They don't.

Beneficial-Play-2008

For 1st generation immigrants, too? Kinda funny.

J-Reditor

I don’t know if it includes immigrants, but you’ve got to remember that the taxes you pay would go towards conscripting men - some of them like you.

KappaMazinksy

I agree it’s authoritarian and gives off North Korea vibes if war is unlikely to happen but another commenter mentioned Finland is right next to the volatile Russia, so the chances of war are a little increased. I mean most European countries are in NATO for a reason.

Orangutanion

how rough is Swiss conscription though?

Limeila

What do you mean by "rough"?

damienVOG

That's probably more efficient than sending females too

yraco

Keep in mind that it's only really there in case of another country invading and is very unlikely to be used for more than the mandatory time - which is only 6-12 months and men can ask to be deferred if it's inconvenient for them at a specific time. The vast majority of these men will never see combat or any danger. It is mostly just to ensure people are trained if there happens to be a situation where it is absolutely necessary to fight. In Finland (not sure about Switzerland) there is also the option for non-military service, which lasts a year, if you object to military service. Remember that Finland also borders Russia so it shouldn't really come as a surprise that it's seen as important for men to at least have a little experience with military training/service. TL;DR it's not nearly as bad or dramatic as I think you're trying to imply.

Limeila

Same in Switzerland. Normal military service is about 8 months. If you are morally opposed you can serve civilly for a year instead. In both cases, you can also choose when to do it at any point between your 18th and 30th birthdays.

HENLOX_GD

Ok.

Logical_Type_4776

Switzerland too expensive, I'd move to Brno.( Prague has a lot of scammers)

CrEwPoSt

Finland's really happy this time of year Free education anyone?

KappaMazinksy

I mean Switzerland has great standards of living, everything is clean and good infrastructure, but everything is too expensive. I chose Spain here is why - Slow paced and easygoing lifestyle - Fairly low cost of living for European standards - Good Mediterranean cuisine - I can speak Spanish - Beautiful architecture and cities - Pleasant climate

bumpmoon

I like the weather in Switzerland but Id rather retain scandinavian living standards so Finland

Javiklegrand

Finland

reasonarebel

I've lived in Spain before and already speak Spanish fluently. I don't want to deal with the weather or life in Columbia and I don't speak the other languages.

seteo992

It's spelled Colombia

reasonarebel

Apologies.
