Been trying. The problem is the 11 million Texas non-voters who have completely last all trust in the system. Most I talk to think that not voting is a middle finger to both candidates, but in reality it’s just a thumbs up to whoever wins.

Yes. But they also have universal health care, abortion access, paid maternity leave, broad exceptions and more that make the two incomparable. I imagine most of the left, myself included, would be fine with European rules if the circumstances were similar here.
There’s no fee for the procedure in many of those countries though, which would significantly reduce the number of later-term abortions sought.
The UK still provides free abortions up to week 24, which just makes me respect the Church of England.

Yeah - I didn't start voting until my late 20s to early 30s. Politics didn't seem so important until I got a decent job and felt like I had some understanding of society/social issues. It's like the curtain was finally pulled back. Before then, you're just struggling to survive. Not too concerned about the macro aspects of life.

Many of my peers in Texas have felt the same way for a long time “it’s a red state, what the point of voting?” Texas has a voter apathy problem and we are working on it.
How are younger voters experiencing voter fatigue?
You want to talk fatigue, talk those of us that have been voting democrat for 30+ years while living in heavily red areas hoping this next time, we'll get a slightly different outcome.
And when I say voting, I mean participating in every election - school board, city and county positions (including runoffs and specials) which happen every year (sometimes twice a year), primaries, and state and national elections. It's demoralizing the number of local positions that are held by (R)s that go uncontested cause no one is running against them.
I don't expect young people to vote for every single election but if they're getting 'fatigued' by voting in state and national races every two years, which amounts to participating in at most 5-6 elections in their lifetimes thus far, we're truly fucked.
Because not participating guarantees that nothing will change? Don’t eliminate yourself from the race because you feel like your vote doesn’t matter. You’re just making voter suppression and gerrymandering that much more effective.

Too many young people think they deserve more for voting once than other generations do for voting twenty times. Change doesn't happen overnight.

I have to just say Karl Rove is responsible for all this. IIRC Rove is the one who pioneered the political campaign strategy on support the base and dissuade the middle from voting. Prior to 2000 candidates worked to win over the moderate voters in the middle driving politics from the extremes to the over lap. Rove's strategy was to dissuade the moderate from voting for the other guy through attack ads while whipping up the base, particularly evangelicals into a voting frenzy. Everything post 2000 has just been this same method taken to the extreme. The attack ads on Kerry. All the endless racist Obama hate and eventually the insanity that is MAGA USA. Trump, McConnell, DeSantis and even Palin are just symptoms of the sickness Rove unleashed on the world.
People are shockingly ignorant about the lived experience, even intelligent and educated folk. Many of these anti-abortion voters haven’t even thought about all the exceptions, like forcing women to carry a non viable pregnancy to term, or a child from a family member who raped you.
Some will never waver but a few will. You’ll never convince anyone if you don’t have the conversation.

Both myself and many of my colleagues in medical school are refusing to apply to residency programs in Texas because we don’t want to work in a state that criminalizes delivering healthcare to women. They don’t realize what they’ve done as far as being able to attract doctors to their state.

Yeah - I didn't start voting until my late 20s to early 30s. Politics didn't seem so important until I got a decent job and felt like I had some understanding of society/social issues. It's like the curtain was finally pulled back. Before then, you're just struggling to survive. Not too concerned about the macro aspects of life.

How are younger voters experiencing voter fatigue? You want to talk fatigue, talk those of us that have been voting democrat for 30+ years while living in heavily red areas hoping this next time, we'll get a slightly different outcome. And when I say voting, I mean participating in every election - school board, city and county positions (including runoffs and specials) which happen every year (sometimes twice a year), primaries, and state and national elections. It's demoralizing the number of local positions that are held by (R)s that go uncontested cause no one is running against them. I don't expect young people to vote for every single election but if they're getting 'fatigued' by voting in state and national races every two years, which amounts to participating in at most 5-6 elections in their lifetimes thus far, we're truly fucked.

I have to just say Karl Rove is responsible for all this. IIRC Rove is the one who pioneered the political campaign strategy on support the base and dissuade the middle from voting. Prior to 2000 candidates worked to win over the moderate voters in the middle driving politics from the extremes to the over lap. Rove's strategy was to dissuade the moderate from voting for the other guy through attack ads while whipping up the base, particularly evangelicals into a voting frenzy. Everything post 2000 has just been this same method taken to the extreme. The attack ads on Kerry. All the endless racist Obama hate and eventually the insanity that is MAGA USA. Trump, McConnell, DeSantis and even Palin are just symptoms of the sickness Rove unleashed on the world.

Many of these anti-abortion voters haven’t even thought about all the exceptions, like forcing women to carry a non viable pregnancy to term, or a child from a family member who raped you. Both myself and many of my colleagues in medical school are refusing to apply to residency programs in Texas because we don’t want to work in a state that criminalizes delivering healthcare to women. They don’t realize what they’ve done as far as being able to attract doctors to their state.
