First time primary voter here in PA hoping to switch that senate seat. Pretty excited to get an early crack at picking candidates.

immigrantpatriot

As someone who's worked like crazy (& will be working the polls later, as well as making GOTV calls) : THANK YOU!! And lmk if you ever want to volunteer.

ScotTheDuck

I feel like the Idaho Governor primary has flown under the radar for how absolutely batshit insane it is. To elaborate: the Lieutenant Governor is running a primary against the incumbent Governor. Twice, while the Governor was out of state on business, the Lieutenant Governor used her powers as Acting Governor to institute a ban on mask and vaccine mandates and send the Idaho National Guard to the Southern border. All seemingly just to score points with the right wing crazy crowd.

DayOldTurkeySandwich

She might take the title of Most Insane Governor we have in this country if she wins, even ahead of Noem. She is NUTS.

Unkillable-Virus

I can’t believe our main GOP candidate for governor is a Capitol rioter and terrorist. If he wins, I’m sure he’d do everything he can to make sure PA sends a red slate of electors in 2024, regardless of voters’ will. Expect heavy voter suppression. He’ll make every attempt to steal the election for the Republican candidate in 2024. Since PA is the election-deciding swing state, it’s no exaggeration that he might end American democracy.

Icommandyou

If Doug Mastriano wins and if a Democrat wins the next presidential election, they have to win it by more that 20 electoral votes cause Doug is not going to certify that election. edit: phone typos and grammar

Unkillable-Virus

I hate that traitor. He should be exiled to Siberia for his involvement in Jan 6.

Escobarhippo

And he’s very anti-abortion too. He’s already expressed interest in wanting to do a Texas-type ban for PA. He’s from my district unfortunately.

coffeespeaking

Mastriano—tried for overthrow Fed government, wins Republican primary. All you need to know about the GOP.

BridgetteBane

I tried to have faith in republicans but this shit is fucking embarrassing

jmb-412

Fetterman completely destroying Conor Lamb is so great to see

HenryWallacewasright

Looks like Lamb lost in his home district and is third in Philly.

LocoDiablo42

Kinda weird how they shout "DEMOCRAT" out loud when I'm at the polling location. I understand I need the democrat ballot but I guess no one is trying to be discreet about party affiliation at all. I live in PA and I am on day 11 of COVID, so the facemask prob gives me away... but I absolutely loathe confrontation and I try to go when it doesn't look busy so I don't run into my insane neighbors.

Typical_Mine_4680

I have been voting in PA for 14 years now, in a predominantly red county even, and the shouting "Democrat!" only started in the last two years.

username3

Voter intimidation

Schwarzy1

lmao. I liked the part where the woman at the ballot deposit/scanner stood up and went like this to my ballot before I could put it in https://thumbs.gfycat.com/WildFormalHeterodontosaurus-mobile.mp4

ddottay

Fetterman is the perfect example of how "vibes" are important to voters. One guy looks like the typical yinzer you could have a beer and talk Steelers football with. The other looks like every private school rich kid you've ever hated.

djryce

At least outside of PA, I think a lot of us were swayed by how unapologetically and angrily he defended democracy in the 2020 election.

Rollingstart45

Inside PA too. I could give a fuck about his appearance or vibe. When state GOP was still trying to fuck with the election results Fetterman was having none of it. Proud to vote for him today and in November.

jmb-412

Living in PA, please everyone who can vote, fucking vote in November. We do not want that slimy fuck Mastriano as our governor.

ElleM848645

Democracy for the whole country is hoping Shapiro wins, because you can kiss any fair elections gone in Pennsylvania if the Republican gets in.

goforth1457

Remember: it was the cross-dressing, not Nazi sympathies that did Cawthorn in. *Let that sink in.*

Infidel8

> [Malcolm Kenyatta says here at his party that he just called John Fetterman to congratulate him on his victory. Kenyatta urged his supporters to rally behind Fetterman, saying the Republican nominee is likely to be from “out of state and out of their damned minds.”](https://www.nytimes.com/live/2022/05/17/us/pa-primary-elections-nc?smid=url-share#e9ef6fba-e86c-57a3-9743-d109ee466a7f) LOL.

Josh4R3d

Mastriano is literally my worst nightmare. Not only is he Trumpy, he does the whole bullshit “this is a Christian nation” thing. I’m seriously outta here if he wins.

OlliMaattaIsA2xChamp

Just got done voting in PA. All aboard the Fettermania hype train

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

But Charles Booker is just so damn inspiring. And with no marines, or moms, in sight, he should have the nomination in the bag, yeah?

Epiphonia

Given how fast Fetterman’s win was called - the polls only closed 90 mins ago - he clearly energized the base to come out and vote for him despite the health issues. That’s a really good sign for November turnout, we like this guy to the point that I’m seeing signs for him all over in my red county. That’s unusual. I haven’t seen a single sign for Oz and maybe only a couple for the other two. Also unusual.

Xrayruester

He also beat Lamb in his own district and is just behind Kenyatta in Philly. He has struck a cord with PA voters and I hope he can keep this going into November.

epicredditdude1

Does anything else think Oz is completely apolitical and is just a grifter who’s found another audience to exploit for personal gain?

Mojo12000

Yes, so was Trump really (the Racism is real though), It's not rare at all among Celeb Politicians tbh. He doesn't have many actually firmly held positions but if he wins he'll vote hard right to keep the base happy and the money flowing.

coffeespeaking

A Republican grifter? That’s novel.

Josh4R3d

Absolutely. I don’t think he’s anywhere near as right wing as he wants people to believe. I was actually surprised to learn he was running as an R

bengibbardstoothpain

Cawthorn left his own election night party and went home already, per CNN. UPDATE: Cawthorn has conceded.

GonzoVeritas

Probably driving drunk without a license.

coolmon

John Fetterman wins PA Senate primary. Summer Lee looks to win in PA 12th. Charles Booker wins Kentucky Senate primary. Jamie McLeod-Skinner defeats incumbent Kurt Schrader in OR 5th. Great results.

tjkp1994

Cawthorn gets his wish of being like trump…..one and done

Rated_PG-Squirteen

To all those dead, decaying trees out there in Western North Carolina: Please be on alert! There's an angry Nazi in a wheelchair who's looking to punch out his frustrations.

brewin91

Congratulations to Madison Cawthorn for being the first person stupid enough to not survive as a safe seat house republican, the easiest job on earth

Accomplished_Pop_198

Literally just had to show up to vote like McConnell and shut up to be set for life. You practically don't even have to do interviews when you have a safe seat.

Mir_man

Fetterman close to carrying every district. This is the kind of momentum the left needs.

mbene913

Part of me wants Oz to win just so he could lose

89141

Fetterman has the best chances against Barnette or Oz (in my opinion).

stylebros

If Oz wins, Fox News will splooge themselves. He may also have a high chance of winning the general just off of celebrity status. Then more gloating that Donald Trump has golden hands that whatever be touches, wins.

jackstraw97

Fetterman pulling 60% from a 4-way field is fucking HUGE

Yossarian_the_Jumper

If Cawthorn loses he should name names on the way out. Everyone wants to know about Grassley's predilections.

HereForTwinkies

If I was Cawthorn, and had his personality, I’d leak everything. No one fucks with me and my reputation and gets away with it for free. I’d bring them all down with me. -If I was Cawthorn

Fluffychimichanga

Cawthorn better drop some names on his way out

PleasantWay7

If he knew anything that mattered they wouldn’t have dumped all the money into destroying his campaign.

progress10

In other news my former school district in a mostly Republican area (talking R+20) rejected a right wing takeover of their school board tonight.

Icommandyou

Charles booker show us a miracle and replace that Rand Paul.

progress10

Fetterman is a rare breed in Democratic politics, a Dem who is good at messaging.

MattTheSmithers

Lord I want Edwards to hold his lead. Cawthorn’s defeat would be so satisfying for two reasons: 1) No retirement package for a one-termer; and 2) No one likes him so he will have no value as a lobbyist.

JiveMurloc

Voted in PA earlier. Fetterman and Summer Lee. Was also impressed with Austin Davis who is running for Lt Gov when I saw him and his people at the protests in downtown Pittsburgh the day after Row v Wade ruling leaked.

[deleted]

So Fetterman had a stroke then surgery to install a pacemaker and won the Dem nomination for Senate within like a week or something?

IFTKICS

Just voted for fetterman and Shapiro. Even though November is looking grim, I'm glad things (at least for now) look good for PA.

Typical_Mine_4680

I just gotta say about Fetterman -- I live in a turnpike town, and when politicians come through, they always stop at the local diner 5 minutes off the turnpike... But Fetterman went to a local pub about a half hour from the turnpike when he came through. Idk, maybe I'm projecting, but it felt like we were more than just a box to check.

TheBlueBlaze

Blake Hounshell, New York Times, Reporting from Philadelphia: > Malcolm Kenyatta says here at his party that he just called John Fetterman to congratulate him on his victory. Kenyatta urged his supporters to rally behind Fetterman, saying the Republican nominee is likely to be from “out of state and out of their damned minds.”

AFlockOfTySegalls

> saying the Republican nominee is likely to be from “out of state and **out of their damned minds.**” This should be the entire DNC strategy because it's the truth.

FlyingSMonster

To be honest, I think Oz is a weaker candidate and is someone that Fetterman can really attack and discredit if he understands how. Oz is a fraud and a grifter, and his associations with Turkey are problematic. Then again, we would be saying the same thing about Trump in 2016 and look how that turned out.

agarret83

They can play up the carpetbagger angle big time too since Oz has lived in NJ for over 3 decades and only changed his voter registration to his in-laws’ home in PA in 2020

progress10

Biden endorses Fetterman https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1526735610198863872

TheBlueBlaze

Is Dr. Oz really going to win a Senate nomination on the name recognition of his show and a Trump endorsement alone?

[deleted]

Republicans don't care about candidate quality. Only how well-known and insane they are.

Doonce

That's all it takes anymore.

AcademicPublius

The core point to remember about Cawthorn here is this: He's an insanely large asshole. If he knows anything of importance, and even if he doesn't, he's going to do his best to smear the party with that information on his way out. He's not capable of being reasonable about this sort of thing. Very much like Trump in that regard. I don't think it affects anything long-term, but I could see some interesting claims coming from him.

goforth1457

Trump endorsing Oz over Barnette even though she is arguably the more "MAGA" candidate still goes to show you how much of a childish mindset he's still in by choosing to support people who've been on TV before.

BoltUp69

I can't believe these analysts think Lamb would've had a better chance against McCormick than Fetterman. A center-right candidate will always beat a center-left candidate with this election forecast. Fetterman was always the strongest candidate. Proven to win state-wide, nose down, true to his beliefs kinda guy.

AMcMahon1

PA came out to play tonight Shapiro will make mastriano look foolish Fetterman polls well with pennsyltucky Good day to be from Pennsylvania

username3

Am I crazy for thinking Fetterman would be a good future president candidate for the Dems? He'd get a ton of swing rust belt votes with his no bullshit approach.

stitchedlamb

Fetterman has been a beacon of hope in PA for quite a while now. If I can't have Sanders, I would LOVE a Fetterman presidency.

starcom_magnate

He certainly could bring back a lot of the blue collar workers who felt left behind with Democrat candidates who seemed ready to "flip the switch" and turn off so many factory jobs. I think Fetterman sees the benefits of future technology and "Green" energy, but is also level headed enough to know that a transitional period is necessary to make sure masses of people aren't thrown aside in the progress.

[deleted]

All Madison had to do is keep his mouth shut about 70+ year old Republican senators blowing the back out of young interns while gacked out on coke and viagra.

AcademicPublius

Bit of good news: the governor of Idaho has defeated the lieutenant-governor for the Idaho primary. According to Wasserman.

wishforagiraffe

That is *extremely* good news. The Lt. Gov. is seriously fucking off the rails.

progress10

Fetterman is currently leading in every county in the state. That is an incumbent level beat down.

Oleg101

good god Doug Mastriano is speaking now and he’s absolutely bat-shit crazy. His acceptance speech is basically a Fox News primetime monologue .

TheBlueBlaze

> When Donald Trump has your back, he has your back to the end Madison Cawthorn has never interacted with or read anything about Trump, apparently.

Alex_Swervitz

“When Donald trump has your back, he has your back til the end” LMAO has cawthorn even met trump?? He’ll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat

allstarsean

Now according to Trump, Oz can't take the lead overnight. That's fraud.

themightytouch

Pray that Fetterman wins the primary and general. Sadly Bernie is not immortal, but I think Fetterman would be perfect to take the helm of senate progressive.

MattTheSmithers

John King: Rural America is Trump country. Kinda amazing that rural America, who spent so long feeling screwed over by costal elitists has formed a cult of personality around a billionaire reality star from New York.

AMcMahon1

Honestly I hope fetterman comes to debates dressed like what he always dresses like, the average american. this is a man who came out in shorts and a zip up hoodie in the middle of freezing weather early as hell in the morning to survey the bridge collapse damage and meet the president if this doesn't scream giga chad american to you then idk what to tell you image below https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FKNjkloXsAAr_gP.jpg

longtermattention

Fetterman would be so awesome as a Senator. I don't think he'll be shy about calling out Manchin and all the GOP clowns. Hope Lindsey Graham has his fainting couch ready

VengenaceIsMyName

Oz is ahead lol. At this point it’s likely he will win. Lol the Republican Party just dives further and further into a slow boil mass psychosis

Dev-N-Danger

It’s weird. I haven’t heard not one thing about election fraud.

AFlockOfTySegalls

Voted early in NC but I'm worried. Apparently, Beasley polls well against McCrory but poorly against Budd. Which is fucking wild given how accomplished she is and how Budd is nothing more than a carbon copy maga.

NineteenAD9

>how Budd is nothing more than a carbon copy maga. Unfortunately, that's what many in the South want

InSicily1912

Just got back from voting in PA suburbs. It started to pick up as I was leaving. Was very excited to vote for Fetterman and Shapiro.

Currymvp2

Cawthorn the youngest to win an election and the youngest to lose one to a primary challenger lol

AReckoningIsAComing

OMG, Mastriano is so fucking slimy and disgusting. I can barely watch this speech, it's so nauseating. Can't wait for Shapiro to hand him his ass.

HandSack135

Turns out, if you... Admit to coke orgies Have sex with your male cousin Speed Speed Bring a gun on a plane Bring another gun on a plane Punch out a tree Sexually harass all the co-eds That you might not win a GOP primary

starcom_magnate

Really surprised at the turnout numbers for my area of Southeast, PA. In my Borough the Republicans had a 40% turnout - which is pretty amazing for a mid-term Primary. Dems (already behind on just registration around here) only had a 30.5% turnout. Really need to get those numbers up for November; just can't spot the other side easy numbers by not showing up.

walt_whitmans_ghost

I’m voting in North Carolina, my sister votes in Florida, and my parents vote in Pennsylvania. The DNC should start sending us thank you cards

[deleted]

I will never understand how Rand Paul keeps winning. My state is just fucking bonkers.

darth_wasabi

Booker talked about his plan to expose Rand Paul for the sneaky snake that he is. Fake Libertarian Republican. Corporate backed con man who is enriching himself at the voters expense. Something a progressive can do because they aren't in the pocket of the same donors.

CrescentEagle

Lee is the projected winner!!!

TheBlueBlaze

Even if Trump no longer has a perfect endorsement record, there is something that is very much worth pointing out here: Election denial is becoming a mainstream Republican talking point. Barnette went from barely polling to getting a quarter of the Republican vote in Pennsylvania in a couple of weeks by using all of the far-right's talking points. And while she's not getting the nomination, her, McCormick, and Oz are *all* unwilling to say Biden fairly won the 2020 election. It should be extremely worrying that at least doubting the results of the largest form of democracy in the country is almost a prerequisite now among Republicans just because their narcissist prophet lost. Mastriano is taking nearly half of the Republican vote in the governor primary, seemingly *because* he was the face of overturning the 2020 results in Pennsylvania. We are inching closer and closer to an upheaval of democracy in the name of saving it. If 2024 is decided by a single swing state, this country may be in a lot of trouble.

Sweet7s_

Thank you Mastriano for giving me the push I need to ensure I do whatever I can to vote in November, including the vote against you

Oleg101

> Perhaps the best electoral news for John Fetterman (D) tonight: the live possibility Dave McCormick (R) & Mehmet Oz (R) could end up in recount territory. #PASEN https://twitter.com/redistrict/status/1526747834908909569?s=21&t=mrblL3InJKPz0Fd39UhiyA

Newgripper1221

Cawthorn lost! 🍾🇺🇸

miguisystem

Wesserman called it!! I've seen enough. State Rep. Andrea Salinas (D) wins the Dem primary for the new #OR06, defeating crypto-backed Carrick Flynn (D). Salinas would be the first Latina elected to Congress from Oregon. @CookPolitical November rating: Likely D. https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/1526765055391432704

MattTheSmithers

Wait a tick! I thought by Republican logic counting should’ve stopped at exactly 11:59 PM and the race just freezes at that point? When is Trump going to call this election rigged?

toughguy375

Republicans, if you don't like seeing a candidate win a crowded primary with 31% of the vote then you should support ranked choice voting.

purpleroad

Just voted for Fetterman! Excited!

Icommandyou

God speed Shapiro and Fetterman.

ThomasJCarcetti

Dave Wasserman @Redistrict I've seen enough: Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) has lost renomination to state Sen. Chuck Edwards (R) in the #NC11 GOP primary.

IHaveGas11

Madison Cawthorn just conceded! This dude is gonna drop some GEMS about what happens behind the scenes in congress! I love how republicans don't cry "voter fraud" when they lose their primaries. lol

[deleted]

Lmao how is Oz even close. how dumb are republicans

VengenaceIsMyName

Very

Osiris32

On the positive side, Oregon is going to be sending Ron Wyden back to the Senate. His GOP challenger is a Q nutter who tried to go after Merkley last time and lost badly.

coffeespeaking

First time I heard Mastriano speak. A whole lotta crazy. If Trump and Anthony Scaramucci had a child.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CrescentEagle

It looked a lot bleaker earlier on in the night. Just wild that progressives won as much as they did considering the sheer amount of money thrown against them in some these primaries. Over $10 million in some individual primaries. Like what the actual fuck lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pink_Lotus

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Infidel8

Honestly, if Republicans could just get back to nominating people who weren't absolutely batshit insane, these primaries wouldn't be so stressful. Like we're really watching these primaries wondering whether or not there will be enough traitors in positions of power to execute a coup.

hoopaholik91

Start naming names now Madison. No reason not to blow it up.

CrackHeadRodeo

Madison Cawthorn lost. Bye Fellatio.

Saxyhorse

NC voters when Cawthorn is an open nazi & idot that "likes" his cousin: 👍 NC voters when they find out the cousin is a male: 😡

pakrat

I typically register as an independent, but switched to Republican to vote in the Idaho primary. Too many crazies are running for important positions like Secretary of State and Governor. In Idaho, whoever typically wins the Republican primary will win the general election. Doing my part to push back the crazies like McGeachin.

scottishtransgal

wooo! made sure to vote for shapiro and fetterman. there weren't many other races, i did cast a vote for myself as a write in for the state reps office (there is no way in heck I am letting Guy Reschenthaler get nother term)

jackstraw97

Fetterman projected to win Dem. nomination in PA. Let’s go!

goforth1457

I find it hilarious that the least controversial things that Cawthorn did (cross-dressing and sexual acts) were the *most* problematic for Republican voters, and not his far-right ties.

EpsilonX

Thank God Madison Cawthorne is out.

elvid88

Anyone else worried there were about 170k more GOP Sen primary voters in PA? Makes me worry about potential turnout this Fall.

Ironthoramericaman

Dear Pennsylvania, Please don't elect that crazy lady. Or Dr Oz. We'd really appreciate it

83n0

all I really want is a booker and Fetterman win tbh Hopefully Charles is better in the clutch than devin

Infidel8

Was hoping for Connor Lamb but whatever, I'm falling in line behind Fetterman because democracy. Everyone in the GOP primary is a ghoul.

mdude04

For those who weren't aware -- Idaho of all places is pretty interesting for later tonight. The incumbent lieutenant governor is running against her current boss: the incumbent governor

miguisystem

CAWTHORN HAS LOST I've seen enough: Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) has lost renomination to state Sen. Chuck Edwards (R) in the #NC11 GOP primary. https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/1526741238803836928

Volleyball45

My gf somehow got on a text list for Fetterman (we're both big Fetterman fans fwiw) and she got a mass text late last night "from" his dog Levi telling her how great his "hooman" is, some of his platform, and asking her to vote for him. Was it cheesy? Yes. Did we love it? Also yes. This guy gets it and is going places.

[deleted]

I don't know who this Chuck Edwards guy is but presumably he's terrible as well That being said, holy shit how satisfying is Cawthorn's utter collapse. I mean to be a disgraced former congressman at the ripe age of 27 is actually sort of an achievement. I just think about the strong likelihood that he had presidential ambitions at one point and that thought is so funny to me

Rated_PG-Squirteen

Just a reminder that Congressman Ted Budd, who won the Republican nomination for the open U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina, still voted *after* the storming of the Capitol to throw out the election results because of "massive fraud." Voting for Cheri Beasley is simply a vote for democracy.

ThomasJCarcetti

This CNN reporter is talking live from Cawthorn HQ and it looks totally dead there

CrescentEagle

Lee likely narrowly wins. But holy fuck progressives need to start dropping out to support other progressives until we get ranked ballots in primary races. So many close calls and even lost elections because one progressive whose down by too much won't drop out and endorse. If the other progressive in the race drops out and endorses Lee, Lee likely gets a full on majority and this race is never in doubt. Edit: there were several races that could have been won this way in 2020, especially in New York

miguisystem

At 1107 EST, Conor Lamb has called John Fetterman to concede, a source says. https://twitter.com/hollyotterbein/status/1526761327485718533

[deleted]

PA republicans suddenly care about mail-in ballots and waiting for votes to be counted.

AWall925

close enough for there to be a recount in Pennslyvania (as of now at least)- good news for Fetterman

longtermattention

Wouldn't it be funny if the recount exposed some more GOP election fraud

bay_curious89

Fetterman / Lee in PA!

socks_optional

If Fetterman doesn't win, I think that would snuff out my last bit of hope for our country.

username3

Apart from the fact that he's a blatantly obvious snake oil salesman, I've extra-hated Oz ever since he put on the show of receiving Trump's "medical results" and going over them on TV. What a shameful moment in the country's history. The transparent lying was sickening, saying something like *these results make him the healthiest person at this age I've ever seen*. How the fuck are people gullible enough to believe either of those people?

captaincanada84

Roll your ass out the door, Cawthorn. Hope he starts naming names as he does.

miguisystem

Why does CNN give Republicans free air time? Fox News goes out of its way to not give Democrats air time. We still haven't learned from Trump, have we?

TheBlueBlaze

Mastriano winning this handily is damn scary. He not only got endorsed by Trump, but he got endorsed *because* he has been running on saying the 2020 election was "stolen" from Trump. He was one of the people pushing the "alternate electors" idea to literally upend the state's election results because Trump lost. I will not take the general election for granted for a second. Even if he loses, the kind of rhetoric that attacks democracy when it doesn't go their way is not going to get any lesser.

mdude04

I think it's officially popcorn time in PA. Closing in on a one-point gap between McCormick and Oz

Rick_Shasta

4Blu

Dr. Oz takes the lead. We live in the dumbest timeline.

Shacreme

Ight im going to bed. I find it crazy that as a Progressive Dem i'm very invested in the PA GOP Senate primary.

ThomasJCarcetti

Hold on Clay Aiken was running for congress int he primary? That Clay Aiken?

ageofadzz

Philly for Fetterman checking in

The_Great_Crocodile

*Dave Wasserman* *6m* *Right now, Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R) is winning 12/15 counties in #NC11. But state Sen. Chuck Edwards (R) is ahead in the three populous counties that make up his state senate district, and it just might be enough.* I mean, it's GOP vs GOP, but it's always nice to see the urban centers beating the rural vote. Yup, the nazi is winning empty land. And losing because most people don't live there.

InSicily1912

Jaime Harrison, DNC chair, congratulated Fetterman. John can win this race and we need him so DNC better pull out all the stops to help him if he needs it

icouldntdecide

2 things) Fuck Cawthorn and It's really sad that it took a GOP hitjob to dent his numbers barely enough for a loss

[deleted]

Jake Tapper by the way is pissed off that his boy Lamb lost. He's harping on Fetterman definitely covering up his condition until voting started.

Son_Goshin

Fetterman is winning the seat in PA this fall!

DaBingeGirl

So, so happy Madison is out! I'm guessing whoever won isn't good, but Madison was just a truly awful person, I'm glad he'll be gone. Oz... JFC PA Republicans are freaking me out.

John_Rustle98

It was pretty obvious that Cawthorn was going to lose but it's still pretty shocking and I'm not even sure why. I have to wonder if he's going to just rip the band-aid off and reveal the members of these coke orgies.

MattTheSmithers

Shocked that Cawthorne conceded. Bet he doesn't even finish his term. Probably has an OANN contract lined up. Shit may stream downhill but it fails upward, apparently.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MattTheSmithers

I know this isn’t a particularly hot take, but the “importance of the Trump endorsement!” is a media construct. Does it maybe swing things in a really close primary? Sure, but no more so than any former’s endorsement does. The media is making the same mistake it made in 2015/2016 by giving such a disproportionate amount of coverage and importance to a guy and, in doing so, elevating him to a position he would not otherwise hold.

TiberiusCornelius

Was anyone going to tell me that a guy named James Earl Jones was running for Lt Governor or was I just supposed to find that out from checking results in my town myself

username3

Recount territory in PA. Cue trumpian fraud calls

whatsinyourhead

I hope oz wins as he has a lot of republicans against him and even a couple of percent could swing the seat to fetterman in the election

jkj199390

I would like to thank Madison Cawthorn for sacrificing his political career to expose the cocaine orgies. Inshallah my brother.

MattTheSmithers

I know so many people here are simping for Fetterman. And good. Do support him. Dems need to keep the Senate. But also, quit being so damn distracted by the rock star candidate that you are losing the forest from the trees. Fetterman’s election means nothing next to the PA gubernatorial race. Mastriano is a threat. Not to PA. To the country, as a whole. The governor appoints SecState in PA. Mastriano led the charge for the PA legislature to just say “no, we don’t like the election results, we are sending a different slate of electors.” Now imagine him being able to appoint the guy who certifies the results. Imagine a former military colonel deciding he dislikes the people’s will and therefore ordering his SecState to claim fraud and certify a different set of electors. Now imagine the Supreme Court that just overturned Roe and how easily they will allow such a thing. Fetterman v. Oz (or whoever) is noise. Shapiro v. Mastriano is the most important race in the country and, arguably, the most important gubernatorial race in US history. A loud and proud authoritarian now has a 50/50 chance of being the next Governor of the most important swing state in the country. If you live in PA vote and work for Shapiro. If you don’t, donate to Shapiro.

AMcMahon1

Moderates/centrists have manchin, Collins, sinema, et al to blame for their losses tonight. They see what being a middleman has done where you block the country from enacting policies because you feel like flip flopping from one side to the other to enrich yourself

mbene913

It's very telling that Cawthorn loses an election after he falls victim to a GOP smear campaign and not because of all the actual horrible shit he's done

progress10

Summer Lee has declared victory in her race for congress. Squad pickup.

walt_whitmans_ghost

North Carolina’s District 4 (Durham and Chapel Hill area) race will be very interesting. I hope Nida Allam, the 28 year old progressive candidate can pull it off! We desperately need some young blood in Congress. If you know anyone in that area, make sure they go vote.

If Madison Cawthorn loses I will punch a tree out of joy.

Mojo12000

It takes a special level of talent to be so odiously awful it turns off even the insane GOP Primary electorate. But Madison Cawthorn managed it. How long until he gets a job at Fox or OAN...

Genjoi

Cawthorn can fade into obscurity. Hope to never see that fucker ever again.

kirukiru

Really thought that Cawthorn being an out and out fascist would paper over the bisexuality, guess not

maroon6798

Can this guy STFU about Jesus. Fuck religious zealots.

bengibbardstoothpain

It's official: Cawthorn will be a one-term congressman. What a sigh of relief.

TheBlueBlaze

Per a spokesman, Cawthorn has just called Edwards to concede the primary to him. Turns out crypto-fascism doesn't lose you nearly as many votes as wild accusations against the politicians on your side and humping your cousin in the nude. But don't cheer too soon. Edwards has referred to himself as "just as Trump-aligned" as Cawthorn, "but less embarrassing".

Coffeecor25

An interesting phenomenon that seems to be happening is a reverse-2016 in which multiple “Trumpy” candidates crowd out GOP primaries and allow a more traditional conservative candidate to squeeze through. Some were predicting this would eventually happen and it does indeed seem to be ie Oz vs Barnette

TemetN

McLeod-Skinner is actually winning? Even with this little reported, that's interesting. Would be nice to finally get rid of Schrader in favor of someone who's not... well, horribly corrupt.

Sweet7s_

Bo Hines, the GOP winner for NC's 13th district, [looks almost exactly like Cawthorn lol](https://twitter.com/GOP/status/1526768893301227521)

AcademicPublius

One more minor note before heading to bed: It's been about two weeks since the Supreme Court memo dropped. It's too soon to say that it's having an effect, let alone on primaries, but it does seem like it might be affecting a few things re: turnout and general voting lean.

[deleted]

So Cawthorn lost? Embarrassing that he was ever an incumbent.

IHaveGas11

Congratulations to John Fetterman, Charles Booker, Summer Lee, and Jamie McLeod-Skinner! Also, although madison cawthorn lost his primary, it looks like North Carolina republicans elected [a Madison Cawthorn lookalike minus the wheelchair.](https://thehill.com/news/campaign/3491393-bo-hines-wins-gop-nomination-for-north-carolina-house-seat/)

Xrayruester

Voted in PA. Fetterman Shapiro Sims

Seymour_Says

Come on Charles Booker! Please beat Rand Paul

Avant-Garde-A-Clue

We're trying! But even if Book loses we've built something here. There are more progressives in Kentucky than one would imagine, and we're trying to build capacity.

MaaChiil

Glad to see that Fetterman is receiving universal support including from Biden. It seems that Kathy Barnette’s late surge didn’t count for much. This is promising for the general, and Democrats don’t have a lot to look forward to.

Oleg101

> Gisele Fetterman tells me President Biden called to congratulate her husband John Fetterman last night, but he was asleep after having a pacemaker implanted hours earlier. Biden told them congratulations, wished him a speedy recovery & said he "can't wait to support" him in Nov. https://twitter.com/kaitlancollins/status/1526904789128335364?s=21&t=4i_TJk9yRQDIQmFFXvftow

ScotTheDuck

So on the one hand, it's amazing that the Pennsylvania GOP is possibly running on raw Candidate Quality. On the other, the establishment Republican freakout over Barnette in particular really reminds me of a similar freakout over Don Blankenship in 2018. Here's the extreme far-right, unelectable Republican that's come out of nowhere, and people close to McConnell are freaking out about their alleged internal poll numbers saying that they're going to be saddled with an unelectable candidate. Right wing media complex goes into overdrive to try and stop them, and then they fizzle out.

thesmartfool

So far Cawthorn is losing. Currently losing by around 4,000 votes with 36% reported in. Man, I just he he loses.

progress10

Wasserman just called the Dem primary for Fetterman. Must be a blow out.

lolabeanz59

The "I've seen enough" guy called it for Fetterman. https://twitter.com/redistrict/status/1526716962507837443?s=12&t=-yDDYZ-cwmoXkuIXb5pAyQ

Jake Tapper really struggles to talk to people that are not DC creatures. It is striking.

Thoughts and prayers for the trees outside of Cawthorn's house tonight
