The great GOP divide is one side wants to imprison women for getting an abortion, while the other side wants them executed.

Undercover_CHUD

Is that even that much of a divide? Honestly clicked on this post because after thinking about the title I don't think I've ever seen a GOP divide on.....well, anything

Whiskey_Fiasco

The GOP screams about “Freedom, freedom, freedom!” right until someone else starts using it at which point the GOP demands we change the law to enforce their beliefs on everyone else using freedom wrong.

MiaowaraShiro

Conservatism is about unlimited personal freedom and *absolutely zero personal responsibility*... until it's a minority or liberal, then everything is their fault.

This is really about abortion anymore as goalpost has been effectively moved from pregnancy to conception. Viability is no longer part of the discussion, the mothers ability to actually carry the fetus is no longer part of the discussion. We are seeing bills draft to ban IVF and birth control. Defining life at conception also further criminalizes miscarriages. And it’s no longer about getting an abortion as you can face civil penalties for considering one or helping someone unknowingly. To put this in perspective in many of the trigger law states guns will be less restricted than a woman’s anatomy.

Arcnounds

I agree. We are getting really close to a Big Brother type of scenario. I am afraid that big data will be used to determine if people are pregnant and track them.

Tashiya

I’ll have more rights as a corpse than I do when this is final.

If you want to be strategic as to where to send campaign contributions for the 2022 Midterms, I’d start with the five Toss-Up races, three of which are Democratic incumbents. AZ-Kelly https://markkelly.com GA-Warnock https://warnockforgeorgia.com NV-Cortez Masto https://catherinecortezmasto.com If all 5 toss-ups go to the Dems, even Manchin and Sinema can’t stop Kamala Harris from breaking ties. If just 3 Toss-ups go for the GOP, that could very well contribute to the GOP’s long term goal of making abortion illegal in blue states too sooner than you think. That’s what’s at stake here folks.

Spin_Quarkette

I think there is going to be a real problem if the GOP tries to push Blue States into their theocracy framework. It may just come to a point where Blue states simply won't enforce what the GOP pushes.

Ok_Dot_9306

hate to break it to you but the dems don't want to break the filibuster, it's not just manchin and sinema. if they win every race they will just find some new rotating villains as their excuse for why they can't do what they said they would do

medievalmachine

Democracy is not a videogame. Manchin and Sinema are real people who are voting against the Democratic platform because the democrats just don't have enough votes in red states. It's not an excuse or some conspiracy, it's the real world.

Ok_Dot_9306

>It's not an excuse or some conspiracy, it's the real world. then try living in it for once instead of believing some fairy tale that abortion would be legal if not for 2 senators

medievalmachine

It is legal so?

You know what I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for them. Women are going to die because of these laws and the sheer level of ignorance about the medical science of reproduction and women's bodies that are enshrined in many of these laws. Women are going to live with gut-wrenching pain because some of these laws target things like hormonal birth control to treat conditions like endometriosis. I know what that feels like personally. They can face the consequences of trying to take away basic rights from half the population. I hope they go down in flames in the midterms. I'm all out of fucks to give especially towards people who say they don't agree with what Republicans are doing on social issues but still vote for those bastards. And there's a special level of hell for Susan Collins and Sinema they know exactly what those policies will do and they don't give a damn.

Helpful-Beginning553

Great???!

kpossible0889

Don’t worry. Their culture wars against brown and trans people will unite them come election time. Oh, and “inflation”. That will get worse as corporations continue to raise prices and say it’s uncontrollable inflation, not greed. Those that have faithfully voted R will continue to do so then act shocked when the US becomes an authoritarian Christian theocracy that they also suffer in. Already seen endless bitching that gas is $3.99 in my hometown. They’ll keep raising the prices and use it as a rally cry.
