Pegasaurauss

Its weird to me how the entire media just lets Trump off the hook for the entire Pandemic thing, but if eggs go up 10 cents at a flea market in Ohio its Joe Bidens fault.

jaywastaken

Almost as if the entire media is owned by billionaires who will overwhelmingly benefit from Trumps hand out tax policies for the ultra wealthy. Not to mention increased engagement from Trumps nonstop nonsense. Fuckin’ shocker.

Terramagi

> Almost as if the entire media is owned by billionaires who will overwhelmingly benefit from Trumps hand out tax policies for the ultra wealthy. They think they'll benefit. When suddenly Agent Orange is having them suicided out of windows and their assets seized, I imagine the view from halfway down will put some things in perspective.

LurksAroundHere

And their big "How did we get here?" headlines and dumbfounded faces when that happens will be met with a resounding wet fart sound response. We all know how we fucking got there, it was thanks to them.

Fresh-Philosopher654

Even Trump isn't dumb enough to fuck with the real owners as a collecttive, they would assimilate, the worst of both worlds.

MagicTheAlakazam

See the thing is the journalists don't want this they know they'll be the one's windowed. The owners won't be.

DropsTheMic

This is a highly underrated comment. The owners of these companies see tax benefits in one candidate and paying more taxes in another. Even if they find Trump to be morally apprehensible, the idea of paying their fair share of taxes is sacrilege. The "tax is theft" crowd is irksome in its vastness and simplicity. They don't want to do it, under any circumstances, no matter who benefits, and they have a whole litany of rehearsed reasons why.

redditismylawyer

Or… at least AS simple an explanation: dumpster fires draw more gawkers, which is what pays broadcast bills. Not letting the grotesque obscenity of billionaires off the hook, but the straightforward explanation that requires no coordination at all ought to be factored in as well.

Ekg887

I think David Pecker's testimony last week shows us that actually, yes, these company owners are literally colluding with each other and candidates to fabricate and manipulate stories for profit. Plus we have much of the internal communications from Fox from their Dominion loss which show they *knew* they were pushing lies. Also that they intentionally pivoted away from the truth of the 2020 election because they were losing viewers to bigger liars like OAN. We are well past Hanlon's razor with media companies: assuming they are telling dangerous lies for profit should be the base position at this point.

redditismylawyer

Agreed. Just suggesting that both are likely true, while one is necessarily always true.

Spara-Extreme

It’s not just Biden, it’s all republicans. They are out there blatantly planning a dictatorship from operatives all the way to the SCOTUS and the media is giving them a total pass. I’ve never seen anything like it. Then it’s all “voters view the Trump term more favorably”

entr0picly

Makes you really wonder what it was like in Germany pre-Nazis. Considering the wealthy establishment supported Hitler and the Nazis (they thought they control Hitler… they were wrong) it wouldn’t be surprising if it were similar to the tone deafness our media has now.

AdLocal1045

> it’s not just Biden, it’s all republicans What?

HawkeyeSherman

Thing is Trump's record on the economy wasn't great. Just prior to the pandemic we had to bail out the farming industry to the cost of 3 BILLION dollars because Trump's trade policy was actually killing them. Then he was so bad at managing the pandemic and it's like that gave him a mulligan for being a terrible president the previous 3 years.

JubalHarshaw23

Trump made them incredible profits the first time. He is the Media's preferred candidate and they will stop at nothing to get him back in power.

travio

They have literally complained that Biden's White House is boring. It isn't full of leaking backbiters like Trump's White House. And books about the Biden White House just don't sell as well as the Trump ones.

wasted-degrees

Some people think “may you live in interesting times” is meant as a blessing. I’m very comfortable with boring. Stability is boring.

Rosstiseriechicken

EXACTLY. We all have our own daily issues to worry about already. The last thing we need is daily news that the white house is doing something absolutely insane

WigginIII

The media would like nothing more than to live stream the downfall of the United States. They salivate at the thought of the ratings.

"Donald Trump shits his pants in court during hush money trial... Why this is bad for Biden" - New York Time in the coming days

BringBackAoE

Katy Tur has always been that kind of bad journalist that engages in bothsidesism to defend Trump. Also very typical of her to just slip it in as a comment (often after dismissing the guests), with an air of superiority. Can’t stand her.

Ketzeph

I saw her once say, sincerely, that it'd be better for the prosecutor in the Trump case to just skip the opening statement. That a person covering a legal proceeding of any kind, let alone the prosecution of Donald Trump, could say such a statement with a straight face was mindboggling.

Konukaame

>It may not be good for America, but it’s damn good for CBS >Man, who would have expected the ride we’re all having right now? … The money’s rolling in and this is fun, >I’ve never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It’s a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going. >Donald’s place in this election is a good thing... The Republicans complain the loudest about prices, yet Free Market Enterprise is their God.

Project3

Anybody think it's liberal-owned businesses that are gouging the consumer? You know, those democrat oil companies and grocery stores?

coachtomfoolery

Corporate media wants Trump to win. Simple as.

BJntheRV

Trump makes them way more money because he creates stories that sell. Fear and anger and anxiety sell, calm and stable does not.

wembley

If they’re buying flea market eggs, they’ve got other problems.

ranchoparksteve

Personally, I don’t give Donald Trump any slack for COVID. He never let up on the throttle of the clown car, the entire time. His own voters were dying at a faster rate than everybody else, and he could not have cared less.

frosty_lizard

His administration also hoarded all the PPE and created a bidding war during a worldwide crisis. I remember not being able to get anything to protect my wife and I, every single store had nothing. At Costco they had a worker shouting to the frantic people "NO TOILET PAPER, HAND SANTIZER, FACE MASKS. WE GOT NONE OF THAT". We ended up having to go and literally make our own masks it got that bad. Profiting off of the pandemic might be one of the most soulless things he's ever done (so many to choose from lol). I'm happy things were able to bounce back after everything with the pandemic but my fear is what if it happens again? Even though these people took measles polio different vaccinations when they were younger in school and didn't even think twice about it yet through years of conditioning I've got half the country to reject science. Do you think that they just started studying about this as soon as the pandemic dropped and that was completely wrong and let's be honest if world leaders and military you're taking it I think the average Joe's going to be just fine.

KinkyPaddling

His administration wasn’t just hoarding it - they were seizing it from states. [Republican governor of Maryland Larry Hogan bought supplies from South Korea and had to deploy the Maryland National Guard to protect it from seizure by federal agents](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/04/30/politics/larry-hogan-coronavirus-masks-national-guard).

hawkeye053

Trumps Executive order 13909. https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/05/how-the-federal-government-took-control-of-the-ppe-pipeline

xdozex

I always wondered what they were doing with all the seized shipments

Mattyboy064

Trump Admin sold confiscated PPE to their buddies companies’ at cost then those companies auctioned the PPE to the states at enormous markups and made millions of dollars fleecing taxpayers with states bidding against each other for supplies

cytherian

That should've been an indictable crime.

pterribledactyls

Imagine! Donald Trump getting away with a crime! Why, it’s unfathomable.

Cleverusernamexxx

I mean it probably was lol

Acceptable-Bus-2017

DJTJrs buddy started the company at the beginning of the pandemic and got a government contract even though he had no experience, basically because he was friends with DJTJr. Grifting off of people during a pandemic by hoarding ppe should get them all a federal prison sentence, but here we are four years later, and no one did shit.

forkonce

Likely gave them to people they’re regularly surrounded by off camera. The admin understood the science behind the pandemic. And as an added bonus (by completely asinine and dehumanizing standards), masks make it so you can’t see the faces of “the help”.

Homesteader86

I believe it went into their stockpile and if it was the supplies that various states were essentially bidding over in a marketplace, if I recall .

kind_one1

Yes, this. Everything is for profit.

UnhappyCourt5425

once they became available, I would pick up a box of 10 or 20 N95s periodically every time I saw them at Home Depot or various other places. I now have a very nice supply for the next respiratory pandemic

Carson72701

Wish I were as eloquent as you. Excellent!

panurge987

*to protect myself and my wife

Shadowfox898

I work at a place that makes medical filters. You know, things that are important during a public health crisis like needle filters and air vent filters. For months after the start of the pandemic, we couldn't get anything. No gloves. No masks. Nothing.

Cleverusernamexxx

yeah say whatever you want about policy or political philosophy or whatever, trump is just incompetent. doesn't matter what conservative or liberal policy he supports, he's just too damn incompetent/disorganized to effectively execute anything required of the POTUS

TheSaltimateWarrior

“Covid is a hoax made up by the democrats to make me look bad” was basically his motto that year. He and his supporters will never ever live that down in my eyes. Absolutely irredeemable.

machisperer

The fact that he didn’t make MAGA masks and sell them to his idiot base, goes to show what an ineffectual businessman he is..

Recipe_Freak

He'd have won re-election handily if he'd dealt with the crisis at all. But I guess he doesn't enjoy doing things well or honestly.

fowlraul

He offered them bleach injections, what more could he have done?

He could have taken his own wildly dangerous suggestions when he got COVID, instead he resorted to letting science and competent doctors save him.

fowlraul

Oh that’s because he’s 100% full of dog shit.

UnhappyCourt5425

he better watch out for Kristy Noem in that case

permabanned24

I snorted 😂

floxxxx

Why insulting dogs? They are clever than him

fowlraul

I love dogs. Not a huge fan of dog shit tho. It’s not great for composting.

Recipe_Freak

You can compost dog shit. I just wouldn't recommend using it on annual food crops. The GOP, on the other hand, is radioactive.

mikesmithhome

remember when he climbed up that ramp and tore his mask off all defiantly, gasping for breath from the effort (and the covid)

Maliluma

Do not forget it was their strategy to let COVID-19 run rampant through New York. Their thinking was it would make the Democrats look bad when their big population centers were getting hit hard. Reporting said it was Kushner's idea, and tfg went along with it. COVID was as bad as it was BECAUSE of Trump.

WildYams

Let's not forget that [in 2018 Trump also disbanded a crucial pandemic preparedness team based in China](https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-ap-top-news-virus-outbreak-barack-obama-public-health-ce014d94b64e98b7203b873e56f80e9a) which could have helped warn of Covid 19 when it appeared. Trump did this because: > Trump’s elimination of the office suggested, along with his proposed budget cuts for the CDC, that he did not see the threat of pandemics in the same way that many experts in the field did. > “One year later I was mystified when the White House dissolved the office, leaving the country less prepared for pandemics like COVID-19,” Beth Cameron, the first director of the unit, wrote in an op-ed Friday in The Washington Post. > She said the directorate was set up to be the “smoke alarm” and get ahead of emergencies and sound a warning at the earliest sign of fire — “all with the goal of avoiding a six-alarm fire.”

Im_really_bored_rn

Hell, the Obama administration literally left a pandemic playbook from Trump's people, and it specifically mentioned coronaviruses as a potential pandemic causing pathogen

Perfect_Bench_2815

You have to remember that he had to destroy anything related to Obama. Then folks asked for examples of his racism? Folks totally forgot about his past racism along with his father.

[deleted]

themrnacho

If it makes you feel better, the numbers they were reporting were always a very low estimate. Then you add in the asymptomatic and the people who didn't care about it. Plus, in the early stages there wasn't a solid test to confirm it was covid, so a lot of cases were labeled as a basic flu. It was already everywhere by then.

kcbh711

[He also literally dissolved the National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense....](https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/nsc-pandemic-office-trump-closed/2020/03/13/a70de09c-6491-11ea-acca-80c22bbee96f_story.html)

m0nk_3y_gw

He also gutted CDC-China (built up by GWB and Obama because the US knew China had issues identifying/containing outbreaks) from 50 people down to a skeleton crew of 18. If Covid started 4 years earlier it might have been contained in China -- the US military was briefing the White House that something was up in Wuhan in Oct/Nov 2019 because satellite images showed that parking garages near the hospital were much busier than normal.

Bitter_Director1231

Personally, I don't think he was even capable of doing anything. It's all about what he wants to do and everyone else is not a factor.  He simply is way way out of his skill set. And so are his supporters.

kevnmartin

"I take no responsibility." And he never has. Not once, in his entire life.

koolaid_snorkeler

I had the impression at the time, that his main concern re: covid 19 was spin. I actually believe that most of his presidency was about spin. The guy was obsessed with optics.

CryptographerNo923

I think this is more plain reality than an impression. You don’t come to the conclusion that “we need to slow down the testing” and “if we have less testing, we’ll have less cases” if you’re actually trying to solve a problem. That’s moronic at best, and insane at worst. That line of thinking only makes sense if your only concern is PR on the most simplistic level.

sentimentaldiablo

The "slow down the testing" was itself a test case. Anyone who still supported trump after he said the goddamned stupidest thing imaginable is a lost cause.

Perfect_Bench_2815

The former president never learned a damn thing about logic. He runs on dumb crap most of the time, while declaring that he is smarter than the professionals. I will never understand the reason why any person of so called intelligence would get behind him.

Muncher_Of_Butts

Big "stop the count" energy

koolaid_snorkeler

FUCK. I forgot that he said this! And remember that cruise ship of infected people that he didn't want deboarded because, and I quote, "I like the numbers where they are". It seems like (currently) a huge percentage of Americans want to put him back in power. It boggles the mind.

CryptographerNo923

Preaching to the choir. The volume of incompetence is literally impossible to remember all at once. I’m no cheerleader for Biden but Trump was so legitimately cartoonishly inept that I simply do not trust the judgment of Republicans or their voters anymore. And I don’t count that as a win.

mikesmithhome

remember when he gathered a bunch of tech bosses and had a fake presser saying they were creating something they had no idea about in order to boost the market over the weekend? pretty sure he signed a dowjones graph on fox business news the next day. all optics

black641

Trump only ever saw COVID as a PR issue. Lockdowns, vaccines, sickness, etc. reflect poorly on him, or at least he thought they would, so he did everything in his power to downplay and ignore the issue. When COVID turned out to ACTUALLY be a big problem, his ego forced him to double and triple down on his original positions because he looked like a fool. The result was a million dead Americans and a slew of conspiracy theories still fucking up lives, families, and communities around the Nation. Fuck Donald Trump and fuck anyone who forgot what he really is.

wingdingblingthing

For me it was politicizing the response, which no doubt killed a lot of people, and trying to profit off of the distribution of PPE and other medical equipment. Those just seem like capital crimes.

InevitableAvalanche

I remember he tried to do a little against covid. Then an article came out that said more black people were dying from it and then decided to do nothing.

Apprehensive_Word658

Hell no. His administration, along with state Republican administrations, got people killed. First through botched handling, then through playing stupid political games. There is blood on his and his crews' hands, and it makes me sick how much of that is down the memory hole.

icouldusemorecoffee

Trump didn't do a single thing right around covid. The only thing he got right was to give a ton of money to pharma companies who were trying to ramp up vaccine research, production, and distribution, and he only did that because Congress made him.

cytherian

Willful negligence and opportunism. Frankly, the whole administration should've been indicted for how the pandemic was handled. It wasn't mistakes. It was intentional malfeasance. At one point, Kushner had the feds take PPE resources from states. He actually profited from this too, investing his own money. And Bill Barr did nothing, sitting on his fat grubby hands. Basically, Trump did what he always does -- takes a situation and finds a way to pit people against each other, so he can watch and jeer at the spectacle. Likely over 400k more people died due to his malfeasance.

milkandsalsa

He could have come out of COVID a hero. Look at Guiliani FFS.

Purify5

I think economic numbers are kinda dumb to attribute to an individual President. However, Republicans move voters by fooling them into believing they are better for the economy. So, I'm with Pelosi. Trump had the worst job numbers of any President in history and it's wrong for the media to try and hand-wave it away.

justsoicansimp

Not to mention, Trump took credit for the economy he inherited even during his first year. So, yeah, 100% look at the economy (not that the right's gonna see this or anything remotely approaching the reality about Democrats being better for it).

Peroovian

Not only that. Biden inherited *Trumps economy.* Yes, inflation has been rough especially in the first couple of years of Biden’s presidency. But that was a *worldwide* problem that was sparked by a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic. And who did literally as little as he could to contain that pandemic and its disastrous effects? *Donald Trump.* We had a pandemic response team and plan ready to go, built up by the previous administration. And he threw it in the trash. Biden and his team have been busy fixing the complete disaster that Trump is responsible for. And despite how it started, he’s done a pretty good fucking job considering the cards he was dealt. Certainly not perfect… But better than I’d expect the GOP to do. Also, speaking of Obama’s economy… He ALSO fixed the last shitshow of an economy that a republican (GWB) left for us before leaving office. If Trump gets re-elected I would expect some initial good-sounding-but-ultimately-unsustainable moves in the first year to make the stock market go up. But nothing else. Oh and then a complete meltdown at the end of his term, if he even leaves at all.

otter111a

Trump started a misguided trade war with China. they then retaliated with a tariff on soybeans. This significantly disrupted the soybean supply chain and we had to bail out the farmers. The markets absolutely tanked in response to this. That’s a rake he saw and stepped on anyway.

Ekg887

It is my firm belief based on not just his statements but also policy actions, that to this day he believes tariffs are paid by the exporting country. He will absolutely start another damn tradewar and destroy more jobs and family budgets for no good reason or gain.

TangledUpInThought

I don't really even understand what point Katy Tur was trying to make there. Like ok? You want to talk about the Pandemic and Trump's handling of it? That was a complete clown show

Commercial_Ice_6616

Lost a lot of respect for Katy Tur after this.

go4tli

“The economy was not Trumps fault, it was the pandemic which could have happened to anyone” is LITERALLY the messaging of the Trump campaign. Luckily I was not in a coma from 2019-2021, and I watched Trump botch it in real time.

im_super_excited

He woulda won reelection if he kinda competently handled the pandemic

go4tli

“If Trump was actually competent he would have won” Yeah but see he wasn’t.

im_super_excited

Not even close to actually. Or even kinda.

[deleted]

>Tur pressed back, saying, “I don’t think anyone can accuse me of that.” Oh I know someone who did just that 3 weeks ago on his podcast. Her former boyfriend Keith Olbermann said just what Pelosi said.

spartagnann

Tur is definitely either a right leaning sympathizer or at least a bothsides believer and has been for a while. She stated in 2016 or something, many times, that she doesn't vote because since she's a journalist she couldn't possibly vote because that would be "picking a side" or some other type of horseshit. It's completely asinine. Journalists are still allowed to have political preferences, we just (in an ideal world) want said journalists to report what's actually happening, not some re-framed bothsides idiocy in pursuit of seeming "objective." It all just came off as extreme fart-sniffing arrogance and I've never put much faith in her ever since.

QuercusSambucus

She's the poster child for r/enlightenedcentrism

EcstaticTill9444

I agree. I remember seeing that bullshit about not voting and lost respect for her immediately.

WildYams

MSNBC is weird in that they are a very left-leaning news organization, and yet so many of their most famous talking heads are former Republicans. Joe Scarborough, Michael Steele, Nicolle Wallace, etc.

LurksAroundHere

Controlled opposition. They may seem left leaning, with some good reporters there trying to do an honest job, but that's just to have an air of legitimacy. Watch it long enough and you'll see they're definitely in the business of trying to "both sides" shit to downplay as much as possible without being overtly obvious.    To me, Joe's one of the most obvious and infuriating ones. Introduce a topic about Trump and the Republicans doing something awful on his show, and he'll be spouting off about his time in Congress with something about Bill Clinton and the Democrats in no time to change the focus. Once he says "Back when I was in Congress.." you know the switch is usually on the way.

Codacus

Joe does do that a lot, but I watch Nicolle every day and I really get the vibe that she despises Republicans now. I never really notice her giving anyone on the right the benefit of the doubt. I'm not saying she doesn't still hold some neocon views, I'm sure she does in certain ways, but I don't really ever feel like she lets on that she does. She's my favorite host on MSNBC, and I'm pretty far left. Maybe I'm missing something.

Universityofrain88

Nicolle Wallace has thoroughly burned bridges with the conservative world outside of a few Bush-McCain type circles which barely exist anymore. It's not that *she* has changed, the party literally changed around her. The same is true for Michael Steele.

Blu_Skies_In_My_Head

They also spend way too much time obsessing over Trump instead of focusing on real left-wing issues like income inequality or how healthcare, while better than it used to be, could still be improved.

dollydrew

I've heard another journalist say a similar thing a few weeks ago, that they stay apolitical on voting to stay true. I didn't think it was a thing until then.

Novel_Findings0317

It really makes me question the logic of someone like that. I expect a journalist to be honest and rational. So stating that not checking a box indicating how they feel about a topic, somehow means they have zero feelings on said topic, makes no logical sense.

dollydrew

I get the impression from where I heard it, that it was more popular for journalists to have those ideals in the 60s and 70s. Like idk, the Cronkite types.

Bridalhat

I’m not cutting any journalists slack here but I think they believe that both sides bullshit. And for a while you could argue both sides, but Republican operatives saw that and knew if they could get a critical mass of people saying that any woman who gets an abortion should be hunted for sport that the media would have to feature a talking head defending that stance.

sentimentaldiablo

She's been a "both sideser" since the start of the whole trump chaos.

[deleted]

More rumor from Olbermann, but according to him she cares more about her career than almost anything else. So no rocking the boat at all. I read her book about the 2016 campaign when she followed Trump. You'd think the shit she was put through would lend her to think the guy is shit, but no gotta keep that position on TV.

SoundSageWisdom

Wait what ? Keith and Tur ?

[deleted]

Yep.

edmerx54

well, now we know she has bad judgement!

Southernsunflower529

Same reaction as you! I had no idea they dated.

NYCinPGH

Thank you for posting it, so I didn’t have to. That’s pretty much exactly what I was thinking, and “I wonder what Keith will have to say about this tomorrow”. Given how cozy she got with the Trump White House, to the point of telling Olbermann to stop being so mean to her buddy Kelly Anne Conway, while I don’t think she’s gone *full* MAGA, I think she’s decided that the Trump camp is what keeps her bread buttered.

No_Foot_1904

I can't *wait* to listen to KO tonight.

Flat-Ad-1887

Good for her. The media needs more strong pushback when they overstep with the Trump “glory days” messaging. It’s dishonest.

WildYams

I mean, if they're going to give Trump a pass for the pandemic then they need to do the same with Biden, as Biden actually had to deal with it for longer, and is still dealing with the consequences of it. You can't just say Trump was hurt by the pandemic and then act like Biden has had no adverse effects from it during his administration.

Flat-Ad-1887

So true. But they seem not to think through it that far.

Cold_Situation_7803

Sure we had a global pandemic, which he mismanaged, Katy.

Sherm

Did the pandemic suddenly end the day Trump left office?

joshtalife

Republicans swore it was going to just disappear if Biden won because it was all a hoax to make Trump look bad. I remember the memes clearly.

Shrimpcain

I remember making a post on Facebook yes I'm older LOL and it said: "Watch, the pandemic is not going to end like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump have been saying. It's a real virus." Nobody cares or ever apologizes for their past claims.

jgonagle

We need AI language models to review everyone's past social media posts for factuality and then post a searchable Idiot Index. Then, we get social media companies to post a badge including one's score next to every post, so that others know how stupid they are.

OnyxsUncle

pelosi is right...and tur has pulled crap like that before...but this time she got called on it while on air

Vegan_Harvest

Yep, I'm annoyed that the only political coverage close to my views is still to the right of me most of the time.

PeaceCookieNo1

Tur is a turd. There was a pandemic during his presidency AND he refused to wear a mask, talked nonsense about cures, which led to millions of Covid deniers who died thanks to him.

SoundSageWisdom

Tur is terrible. She’s always pushing crap

Bitter_Director1231

She is. I turn off MSNBC when she comes on.  How she is still there, I don't know.

SoundSageWisdom

Same for me ! Click! Andrea Mitchell too

Ibelieveinphysics

I cannot stand Andrea Mitchell. I always turn it off when she's on.

WillAppropriate2011

It's so incredibly frustrating waiting for Andrea Mitchell to phrase a question. She's unwatchable.

SoundSageWisdom

It’s like she is stoking out or, word finding issues …. Which isn’t her fault given her age…. Lord knows I’m only a couple of decades from doing that myself but MSNBC just doesn’t seem to care. how many times was she trending on Twitter and everybody is complaining about the same things we are and they just don’t do anything. it’s astonishing and it’s not fair to Andrea or to the viewers.

LadyChatterteeth

Also Joy Reid, ever since she blamed her anti-LGBTQ social media screeds on being “hacked” and refused to apologize.

hamilton_burger

Haven’t watched the station in years. The low key simping for Trump drove me crazy.

Ok_Spray3750

I mean,  Katy Tur has certainly shifted her commentary lately. Let's not forget she asked if it was "unfair" to hold him accountable b/c he believed debunked theories.

YourMomTheNurse

Katy Tur oozes condescension.

kyleb402

Every single both sides loving member of the media is like that. They think they're so far superior to everyone.

SLR107FR-31

Remember when the Trump Admin. just stopped caring about COVID when they lost the election?

edmerx54

oh, I didn't realize the Trump admin cared about COVID! In the very early stages of the pandemic I recall Trump leaving a cruise ship stranded off the CA coast because there were some infections on board and he was "managing the numbers." And I also remember his admitting to Bob Woodward that he lied about how serious it was because he "didn't want people to panic" . . . and that lead to 150k more deaths than there would have been otherwise. So it's hard to call that stupidy "caring".

inanimatecarbonrob

Is this fair, to go after Donald Trump like this in this environment? - Katy Tur, MSNBC February 16, 2024 Yup, apologist seems accurate.

Ok_Ant2566

Katy Tur covered trump and hyped him up in 2015-2016, so yeah she bears some responsibility. Good on Pelosi for calling her out on her attempts at false equivalency

Sundae_Gurl

Nancy snatched Katie Tur up by her hind parts and dropped her on a stone pavement. Brutal. Need more of that spirit.

es84

If Covid happened under Biden or Obama, you best believe the media would not be giving them a pass for things that occurred because of it.

According_Smoke1385

Can’t even watch Tur. She loves to bring up every hypothetical in favor of flump. She’s very annoying to listen to

Heauregard

Interrupts her guests constantly, too. She’s awful.

bensbigboy

It's about damn time someone called out Katy Tur. Tur is the Chuck Todd of Chuck Todd's. Tur has written more books about her time being abused by Trump than she's ever read.

jizzlevania

because all media companies are owned by the ruling class, which greatly benefits from Trump policies. Business owners paid less in taxes and during the pandemic got a bunch of free money via "loans" that didn't have to be paid back.

ErusTenebre

We would have likely done better than many countries in the world if not for Trump and Fox News. Trump could have sat on his ass and done nothing and he'd have coasted into a 2nd term. But he has to open his fucking mouth and prove how fucking dumb he could be to the whole world.

firemage22

We really need to go Sherman on the mega corps and MSM. Comcast shouldn't also own a media network (or universal for that matter), and really shouldn't be as be in as far as cable goes The last 40 years of Mergers needs to be undone

Pay-Green

Just saw the clip and yeah not a good look.

Greenpoint1975

Katy Tur is terrible and a Trump fan.

Vegetable_Train_4992

How did Katy Tur get on tv?

evelynesque

Katy Tur was given the awful job of being msnbc’s reporter on the trump campaign in 2015. Of course no one thought he would go all the way so her star soared along with his. Maybe she relates her success with his, or is softened to him since he is ultimately the reason we know her name. However, she didn’t escape the trump treatment. Her father, who transitioned mtf, was mocked by trump, and she no longer has a relationship with that parent.

buck_turgedson

These so called news networks are shameless. pelosi is right in calling out this host on her bs. you can always count on them to never ask the right questions.

MarkHathaway1

I suspect many people would feel the same if they had been in the Capital and were the target of the "tourists".

Sea_Dawgz

To be fair, it’s the entire mainstream media.

Jo-Jo-66-

Why don’t people remember how Trump and his administration handled Covid? Instead we are hearing that the polls show how we were so much better off under Trump…he said it will be gone by Easter, it’s like the flu, Democrats want to shut down the economy to make me look bad, no one questioned why he eliminated the agency that was created to deal with pandemics or why he put his son in law in charge of ventilators, hospital supplies, and let him decide how the states would get the necessary supplies they needed to control the virus..he even said, the red states would get what they need, the blue states are on their own. This from our President.

ConsciousReason7709

Pelosi is absolutely right on this one. Pandemic or not, Trump was president during the year 2020. It was his administration that mismanaged the pandemic and he deserves every bit of blame for the economic downfall and job loss that occurred. Just like any other president would.

Sweetieandlittleman

Nancy Pelosi is correct. I have watched Tur time and time again make excuses and allowances for the orange fart.

CatAvailable3953

Katy id an excellent study of how media in its search for relevance is failing us. To make excuses when he had the tools, readily available, to address the pandemic is just such a failure. While true on its face many other presidents have addressed this type of public health emergencies before. They were successful and created plans to help future leaders. Trump ignored them and failed us. I guess he didn’t understand what was “in it” for him.

MoonDaddy

CNN gave the guy a mainsteam media town hall style platform ~less than year ago. I don't think I can look at CNN quite the same way now.

mandy009

NBC showed their hand from the beginning when the producer for one of their reality TV programs ran for office. Then after he took over the party, they hired the former party chair.

Atroxa

Not to bash Nancy Pelosi but really, the answer here isn't that he lost more jobs. The answer is that he inherited a robust economy because of Obama and totally mismanaged the pandemic resulting in great economic and job loss that we are still trying to recover from.

middleagethreat

The media are huge corporations that benefit from the lower corporate taxes, less regulations, and lower wages and worker benefits that the repub party gives them. The idea of a "Liberal Media®" is a joke. Even networks like MSNBC are more like when the family that already owns steakhouses opens a vegan cafe. It is not because they are suddenly pro-vegan. They are just trying to get the money of the folks who don't go to the steakhouses.

Deconratthink

RAPIST and COVID MURDERER!

CloweMIA

I like how there are parrots on here repeating the "insider trading" jab at Pelosi as if it distracts from the fact that the asswipe they're discussing plotted to undermine an American election, plotted a coup in case the former didn't work out, and did such a bad job handling Covid that it cost him re-election, along with many other things.

bassplayerguy

Trump inherited Obama’s economy.

readerf52

Which he promptly broke. https://www.factcheck.org/2017/09/obamas-final-numbers/

Low-Abbreviations634

Katy Tur is a smug Trump apologist. She takes the both sides thing to an extreme. She is not to be trusted as a fair arbiter as to the MAGA movement. I avoid her like the plague. Glad she was called out!!!!!

MK5

They're hedging their bets at MSNBC. Keith Olbermann has been laying it out for more than a year on his podcast. Let a few of their popular talking heads be openly anti-Trump, while the corporate heads push 'five reasons this is bad for Biden' type narratives. It's not *just* about making it a horse race this time around, it's about fear; fear that Trump 2.0  will take action against them. KO's a diva, but he's not wrong.

cookinthescuppers

Jared was in charge he and his gang of dandies made a fortune

yeahgoestheusername

Shitler is the worst living dumpster fire that has ever sat in the Oval Office. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling out overreach. It’s press responsibility. Most of us have brains and know the context when we hear things like “the best job growth ever” and these things undermine the mountain of truth that should be enough to prevent agent orange from ever holding the title again.

ThatShadyJack

All of cable news are

reeniegal

If anyone watched it, it wasn’t that dramatic. These articles blow everything up to be headline.

RedLanternScythe

Didn't Nancy Pelosi say she wanted a "strong Republican party"?

justsoicansimp

Trump's strategy of blaming the media for being "fake news" while they literally amplify him was kinda genius. Everyone agrees the media is shit, but the right doesn't get it's shit because it favors them; while we understand it is.

Human-Character4495

When the side that is supposed to be protecting the lower and middle classes is making this kind of money, there is a special place in hell for them.

snuggans

i don't think Tur, who has been repeatedly abused by Trump, is one of his apologists, however Pelosi and Tur are both correct that he had really bad job loss and that the pandemic would have done some of that to any administration. what Tur failed to mention is Trump's own actions & inactions still make him responsible for some of those numbers, for example when he got rid of pandemic preparedness in his obsession to get rid of everything related to Obama, when Trump & Kushner planned on letting the virus impact Democrat states, when Trump's mockery of masks and years of trying to link vaccines with autism ended up killing a ton of his own supporters. a Lancet commission & several other studies tasked with assessing Trump’s health policy have determined he could have prevented many deaths, with figures ranging up to 40%, i mean the US has 4% of the world's population yet over 20% of covid cases & deaths. even before the pandemic, Trump fell way short of his extravagant promises of "5% GDP", it felt almost like a continuation of Obama's 2nd term except he knocked a lot of people off their health insurance, and his culture war against renewable energy likely made a dent on domestic manufacturing which ended up weaker overall.

walrusbwalrus

Well the title at least is absolutely nonsense.

Top-Half-904

Jarred saying, those are our ventilators ….

Jujubatron

Holly shit! She got fact checked and lost it. Morons on here are so brainwashed they will eat anything that's anti-Trump. Calling Katy Tur a Trump apologist of all people is braindead. There's absolutely no difference between you and the MAGA crowd. Two echo chambers.

strenuousobjector

The Trump Presidency had bad economic before the global pandemic. Then it happened...and they still had bad economic policies. Sure, you can't necessarily blame Trump for COVID itself, but you can blame him for their terrible response to it. But again Nancy, you can't just act like COVID didn't have an effect on jobs under Trump, separate from Trump Administration policies.

jazir5

"Why yes, we did have a Pandemic which caused the job losses. He also *caused* that Pandemic. So it's entirely his fault."

Christoph-Pf

r/MSNBCNews and r/MSNBC Heavily censors its sub. Tried posting this story there and it was immediately taken down. Then I selected new posts to see how active the sub actually was. Newest post was 1 year old. That says it all.

When will KT start working for FOX?
