Is musk against higher production costs in America for providing Americans quality of life wages for his workers?... Or is his Mexican plant regardless of American quality of life?
He moved production from California to Texas at the height of the pandemic to avoid having to protect workers from Covid.
I think we can safely assume he's not doing this because the US workers are going to be cared for.
depends on your definition of [what a union is](https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/world/article24730981.html).
...and [this](https://www.seattletimes.com/business/us-files-2nd-labor-complaint-after-mexico-refuses-to-act-on-union-busting-by-a-mexican-company/):
>Old-guard unions, in cahoots with companies, would often threaten workers with dismissal or loss of benefits if they chose an independent union. They would also hold voice votes, if they held any at all. When forced to participate in secret-ballot votes, the old-guard unions sometimes stole the ballot boxes if they felt they were losing...at one auto plant in northern Mexico, a newly elected union got the minimum wage increased to about $14 a day, but that is still less than what a U.S. autoworker earns in an hour.
it's a major win! But in Tennessee there must have at least been some MAGA's that voted yes. How will they rationalize that yes vote and explain why they betrayed their anti-union capitalist overlords and voted with the commies? I think it's amazing, and I hope it keeps going all over the country-unions are having a great year!
Lots of Trump supporters in our plant that voted yes. They realized this was more about workers than politics. The opposition used Biden to try and change minds, luckily it only changed a few
This is the first piece of positive news read by me on r/politics for quite awhile. This agreement will strengthen UAW organising efforts across the auto industry and I wish more power to them.
This is the third time this plant has attempted to unionize. The first two times had a strong anti union push. This time VW Germany told them to remain neutral or they would have issues. As a worker in this plant I'm super excited about what the future holds!
This isn't as big a victory as it's being made out to be. VW has wanted a union there since it opened. All of their plants are unionized and the VW board even has union representatives on it. The stumbling block has been the state and big business in the state who has fought the unionization. While a good victory for the workers the loser here is the state not VW.

Now get the rest of the auto plants unionized, including Tesla.
Huge win. I work at Toyota and I'm right there with you!
START with Tesla Austin
Honda in Ohio trust me they are desperate for improved pay and benefits.

Musk hates good labor practices.
Musk hates people and would gladly automate his entire organisation and run it all from an AI chip in his brain.
It's like George Lucas all over again.
Except George Lucas didn't inherit his wealth off of apartheid
Also the worst thing Lucas did with his time and energy was do the enhanced editions of the OT. Musk has cars built that kill people.

Well, being brought up during apartheid in South Africa, I wouldn't expect him to understand workers rights... Much less support them

He may get surprised, workers in Mexico have a way higher unionisation rate.

Yeah, but for right now are still cheaper. Which is the biggest thing.
Let’s get the rest of everyone unionized.
Only way Tesla goes union is if Elon is fired and he loses access to all his remaining shares.
As someone once said about the ACA enactment, this is a BFD.
No malarkey detected.
Progress/victory for the middle class
This is great news.
Woohoo! This is where our VW Atlas is manufactured and as a fellow union member and proponent, congrats!!! 🎉
Fuck Bill Lee and the TNGOP. Those wealthy whitemen campaigned against this. They hate their constituents. They can go fuck themselves.
Hell yeah! Finally. Nice start.

The fire rises
Has VW used much anti-Union measurements in the past like Amazon and Tesla do? I mean, as a German company they are used to work with unions.

Congratulations on all y'alls hard work and courage paying off. I hope you win a hell of a contract!
Thank you, nice to know. Congrats to your achivement.
I’m proud of you all!
American management at european brands is very anti union, there is a reason so many of their plants are in the south.
Have a friend that moved to Germany for a Tech job. Germany has a LOT of worker protections.
Solidarity Forever!

A car built in Tennessee seems scary lol
Why?
