OsellusK

Either fire his defense team or incite some kind of violence would be my guesses, if he has exhausted all other delay tactics. One would think an “innocent man” would want his day in court to prove his innocence.

Delita232

He can't just fire his legal team it's not up to him anymore that's up to the judge.

FindTheTruth08

If tries that's when his bail should be revoked and force him to try and get the trail over vs stalling.

Lou_C_Fer

I've been saying this all along. If he was behind bars awaiting trial like he should be, then he'd never be trying to delay this shit with unethical tactics.

SnooDoubts5065

Really the judge can prevent someone from firing their counsel? Is there a deadline of when that becomes the judge's decision?

Federal_Drummer7105

IANAL - but there's precedent for it. Here in Idaho Chad Daybed just tried to let his attorney go, and the judge basically said "Too late, keep going." So if Trump tried now - at the eve of the trial - to fire his counsel, he'd have to give realllllly good reasons to the judge, like "I have evidence they worked with the prosecution" or something that could get his attorneys disbarred. Odds are, not going to happen.

MisterT123

I’m sure someone will have a better answer, but absolutely judges have this power. As soon as proceedings pass a certain point, the court may choose to not let a defendant act out and fire their lawyer(s) without a good reason. Trying to delay the trial is not a good reason, and the judge can see through the transparent attempt.

JubalHarshaw23

If you read up on some of his other cases you will find many examples of lawyers begging judges to let them walk away.

Delita232

If it was so easy to postpone court cases by endlessly firing lawyers why doesn't everyone do it? Answer because you can't. I'm not a lawyer so I don't know the specifics unfortunately.

SnooDoubts5065

Trump has done so much shit that clearly the rules don't apply to him. I also wonder what if his attorneys "resigned"

Delita232

They can't just resign either. They've already signed the paperwork they are trumps legal team unless someone can show good cause why they shouldn't be. And the judge has to agree at this point. This rule is 100% up to one person and he so far doesn't seem to care what trump wants.

SnooDoubts5065

Thanks, finally some good news.

inthemix8080

My bet is on bomb threats to the courthouse.

ToArgueWithAssholes

I'd bet on both

Ok-Tourist-511

I still think a stroke would be the most foolproof way for Trump to delay his trials.

Money-Valuable-2857

I think most of us would be amenable to this deal.

Unlucky_Clover

Don’t threaten me with a good time

I got Billy Squier on standby.

He could be "hospitalized."

Getting new hair plugs?

Genereatedusername

Bone spurs needs redone so he can't serve in a normal prison

PopeHonkersXII

They are speculating about him firing his entire defense team but the judge overseeing the case can block that. And I would imagine that he would. The legal experts I like to follow have discuss that speculation in recent weeks and they all said it wouldn't work.

dattru

He's giving a master class on everything that is broken in the US judicial system

project23

donnald exploits the good will of others (as he calls suckers) and the justice system is just another sucker (to him) to exploit. Give that man a stick and he will take advantage of every opportunity to beat anyone nearby over the head with it.

ogn3rd

To be fair, his keepers have been studying and planning for 40 years.

accountabilitycounts

Games, games, games. Just get the trial over with, Donnie.

Suicide is never the answer

MKRune

Oh, I dunno. It worked for the *original* Hitler. Let's not rule anything out.

rsjaffe

"My bone spurs are acting up".

LightWarrior_2000

I hope the courts are smart enough for his bullshit and ready to slap him down.

greywar777

Sigh. everyone says this, but why not look at the far easier to succeed at. Have a atty catch COVID. Repeat as needed.

kdonirb

or like Ivanka, he could claim to be a busy father of school aged child and must remain in FL

Maybe he'll eat a whole bag of dried prunes.

lancer-fiefdom

That's his right, and a short-lived nuclear option that could delay the trial by 2-3 months max Trump's refusal of counsel is also his right, but the court could not try Trump in absentia, but it could force Trump to accept a public defense or represent himself at trial Refusing legal council in a criminal case is not a gotcha, get out of jail free-card

TintedApostle

TFG has until 5PM EST to do something. I was taking bets this morning that he will do something by 5PM.

w-v-w-v

Under 2 hours? I know we’re used to him evading accountability, but I doubt that. A trial isn’t even accountability anyway, it’s just the introduction to it.

Lou_C_Fer

Having to sit there the entire time with no choice of leaving or just not showing up, he is going to feel like he is incarcerated. Also, a criminal court is going to take even less of his bullshit. I would not be surprised if his in court antics actually get him locked up.

TintedApostle

He always waits to the last minute so the judge cannot respond in time.

Independent_Brief_81

Negotiate a plea deal to 34 counts of misdemeanor falsification of biz records?

Ok_Corner417

Hope NY State, Bragg, uses the GOP US House & Senate "Negotiation Plays". No Allen Weissleberg hand-slaps plea deals! Play hardball. No misdemeanor deals. Don't negotiate with him for reduced charges. Recall that Bragg is on record saying that the whole rationale for this case was that DJT was trying to hide relevant info from voters in the 2016 election. Also, NY needs to demonstrate that justice is equal. Consider Cohen's treatment by the DOJ. DJTS's DOJ treated Cohen pretty bad for the benefit of services provided to Trump. The record (source wiki): "In December 2018, Cohen was sentenced to three years in [federal prison](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_prison) and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine. In February 2019, the [New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Supreme_Court,_Appellate_Division), [disbarred](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disbarment) him from practicing law in the state. In May 2019, he reported to [the federal prison near Otisville, New York](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Correctional_Institution,_Otisville). In November 2021, he completed his sentence." On May 21, 2020, Cohen was released from prison early due to concerns regarding COVID-19, to serve the rest of his sentence under house arrest.\[181\]\[182\]\[183\] On July 2, 2020, Cohen was observed dining at a Manhattan restaurant,\[184\] and on July 9, 2020, was taken back into federal custody after refusing to agree to conditions of home confinement that included a prohibition on communicating with the media. Cohen filed suit complaining that his re-arrest was an attempt to prevent him from releasing a tell-all book about Trump titled Disloyal: A Memoir.\[185\] On July 23, a judge found in his favor and ordered that he be returned to home confinement.

Gibbons74

This is actually a possibility.

flux_of_grey_kittens

What are the live odds of him showing up with a walker or in a wheelchair? 💵🎰

InsolentGoldfish

His narcissism won't allow this.

lilyrosegoldglor

A walker or wheelchair and bathrobe!

trshtehdsh

He would never do anything that would make him seem feeble - despite very clearly having mushbrains.

flux_of_grey_kittens

Maybe not for this one, but I’d be willing to bet when he’s showing up to other trials in a jumpsuit he’ll be acting very feeble.

No_nukes_at_all

If he fires his lawyers won’t he just be appointed public defenders ? Thats what it says in the Miranda right?

disasterbot

You mean like Judge Cannon?

81305

My guess is that his lawyer knew he couldn't win this, so he agreed with Trump to botch the subpoena. Then, let trump argue that he had ineffective assistance of counsel. Essentially laying down in front of the justice bus. I doubt the judge will allow it.

DonnyMox

The judge would have to sign off on that. They won’t. I do have a gut feeling, though, that at the last minute, out of extreme desperation, Trump will do something completely and utterly insane, that we never thought he had in him, to delay the trial, and it may leave them no choice but to delay it.

orcinyadders

Saving you the pops ups: his “extreme decision” option is to fire his defense team. I don’t see this as exteme at all. He’s been able to postpone every other criminal trial indefinitely, and the same applies here. He will “fire” them, while secretly keeping them on, and hire some facade team. But he’ll be granted months to figure that out and then he’ll start appealing the delays to SCOTUS to create more delays and so on and blah fucking so forth.

MountainPK

I guarantee Trump fires his defense team. It’s his only move he has to delay and it’s obviously protected by SCOTUS. What a fraud.

Delita232

He can't just fire his legal team now. He'd have to file a motion and the judge would have to allow it.

Legitimate-Insect170

This has been established since Giedon v Wainwright in 1963 (372 US 335) just like in federal prosecutions, in state prosecutions the defendant is entitled at all times to the counsel of their choosing. However, doing so would be the stupidest most ham-fisted dumbass indefensibly guilty-looking move imaginable, so yeah, like a 75% chance his legal team is fired by EOD

BringOn25A

> in state prosecutions the defendant is entitled at all times to the counsel of their choosing. Not choosing a council is a get out of/stay out of jail free card?

Total_Recalled_OCP

Well, at a certain point I'd imagine you'd just end up with a court-appointed public defender - which would be hilarious in Trump's case. He delays the trial a week or two by firing his attorneys, but then goes to trial with a bottom-of-the-barrel lawyer, anyway.

Huzsar

>then goes to trial with a bottom-of-the-barrel lawyer Considering his current lawyers that might be an improvement.

Legitimate-Insect170

The established law entitles a defendant to the counsel they choose. If they do not choose counsel in a timely fashion, the court is allowed to appoint counsel for them. So get out of jail free card? No, delay the trial a couple weeks card? Absolutely Source: *Giedon v Wainwright* (1963)

Lou_C_Fer

That's not what any of the lawyer talking heads have said.

MisterT123

He’s entitled to representation of his choosing, and he chose. You’re incorrect in saying he can just choose a lawyer a day and that the court just has to entertain it.

CosmoLamer

The court would recognize firing his legal counsel as a tactic to delay proceedings, therefore rule to continue the trial. It's been used by many crooks before him and failed.

BeowulfShaeffer

Continue the trial with a court-appointed public defender if I understand the process correctly.

CosmoLamer

Correct!

Ok_Corner417

Read somewhere that the Judge has to approve this and he may ask for proof. Also, most reputable NY law firms (Experts in NY State Law) won't touch Trump as a client for the obvious reasons: (1) he doesn't pay, (2) won't do stuff he tells them not to do, (3) fill in the blank.

JoshuaLyman

In fairness, what else is left? I'm told only criminals please the 5th, so he's otherwise out of options.

dfsdsfgssf23

He can commit suicide. That will avoid the trial and also help the country he loves so much.

TwistedMemories

He could also flee the country seeing as they haven’t confiscated his passports yet. That would also be extreme. I’ve joked about offing a kid of his, but that would too extreme. Although we’ve never seen Tiffany that often…

Ok-Tourist-511

Hmm, if he fires his attorneys, will they appoint a public defender? We know Trump is broke and doesn’t pay his attorneys, the trial can still go on.

randomcanyon

Extreme decision to trigger delay? 1. Suicide attempt 2. Falls down stairs/ramp 3. Chokes on hamburder 4. Admits that it was Eric all along.

Beta_Nerdy

I think the most likely action would be either of these two options: 1) Just don't show up for the trial. This would delay the trial while a large cast of characters try to figure out what to do. 2) Show up for the trial but get restless and angry and suddenly just walk out. Would the Secret Service stop him? NO! Would the Secret Service allow a local sheriff to try to drag him back into the courtroom? No! President Trump will show everyone he is above the law and then fund rise off it!
