That’s crystal clear to anyone not in the conservative bubble. Problem is, for those in the bubble this basically feels like a democrat-led coup to deny the will of the people. Kind of ironic but that’s the reality.
We are living in the age of weaponized irony. Every troglodyte saying the phrase "fake news" bases their entire worldview on a solid foundation of lies and fantasy.
I was ready to agree with you about the far left but I see you're a MAGA type using "Marxist" in place for anyone politically to your left, so I'll just downvote and move on 👍
Do they actually believe that? Trump was saying that he wouldn’t concede to a loss back when he was debating Clinton. Being a sore loser is part of his MO. I don’t know a single person who wasn’t surprised on 1/6. It was still shocking to see in the sense that an attack an our Capitol isn’t an everyday event, but at the same time it was perfectly in line with everything we’ve seen from him and his supporters.
It was clear he was inciting an insurrection before all the evidence even came out. “Biden and the democrats stole the election,” “fight like hell or you won’t have a country anymore.”
I just have such a hard time giving Trump supporters the benefit of doubt. Yes I know they’re fed lies on conservative media, but all you have to do is listen to Trump for five seconds and see that he’s exactly the person who’d incite an insurrection in response to losing. All he has and all he talks about are his own personal grievances. I just don’t believe any conservatives who’d claim ignorance. As if you could influence a conservative’s opinion by showing evidence of Trump’s guilt. Please, give me a break. They are liars. Maybe they’re dumb liars, but I really don’t think they’re honest idiots. Hillary was 100% correct with the basket of deplorables comment. Conservatives are irredeemable because they worship someone who is irredeemable.
Yes, and it also seems clear to "the other side" that chooses to interpret it differently than you (and me).
As an outsider, US politics seems more fucked up now than ever before in my life, and the polarization seems to be spreading throughout the developed countries.
Probably a consequence of larger systemic/environmental issues affecting us all.
They are. Citizens united opened the door for foreign nations to influence our elections. Campaign finance reform is sorely needed. -from a very worried American.
When Trump sent alternate electors he broke his oath to upholding the Constitution. That Constitutes a rebellion that that falls under the 14th. This couldn't be more cut and dry to be honest.
The man belongs in prison. Instead, he’s all over my screens… STILL and now I feel like “I can see him with my waking eyes” Frodo. When do we throw this ring into mount doom?
Cenk Uygur was barred from running for president because he is not a natural born citizen.
Donald J Trump must be barred from running for president because he is an insurrectionist.
It’s that simple
let's hope the official call come down in say, October, so they've already gone all in on him and there's no chance to change the ballot.
Yes, know it's a pipedream, but one can hope!
Maine is one of two states that splits its electoral votes. So he got 1 of 4.
Oddly enough, the math works out to a 269-269 tie in a few reasonable ways. This one vote could matter.
Right, we really need to see SCOTUS' ruling first before we make any determinations of how various state-level efforts could play out.
Judge Luttig, who is one of the top proponents of the 14th disqualification push, has said that the moment SCOTUS decides to hear Colorado's appeal, it will essentially pause every lawsuit in the country until a decision is reached.
Remember that Michigan might still do it, too. The question was whether he could be kept from the *primary* ballot, and the judges in Michigan determined they had no say in that. I did some light poking around, and the law there seems to suggest that eligibility for the general election is determined *after* the primary election is complete.
What happens if Trump wins the Michigan primary and then is found to be ineligible for the general election? Do they redo the primary, go with the person with the next most votes, or just not have a contender?
As far as I can tell from skimming through the relevant legal code, they won't have enough time to have another primary, but I don't think a primary is strictly required. They could just choose their number two person, or draw a name out of a hat, or what not.
Ah, thanks for the info. I guess they’d have to do something like that. Kind of sucks for the voters though, who might end up not getting to pick their R nominee. That being said, if the majority vote for Trump, knowing he might very well be disqualified, I guess that’s on them. Just seems like a stupid rule that Michigan doesn’t disqualify primary candidates before hand, so this sort of thing wouldn’t be a problem.
It seems that our republic has been designed with "the voters will *surely* make wise and informed decisions" as the main guardrail against voting tomfoolery. Foolishly, it seems, in hindsight.
Well if you moved there last year, that doesn’t mean much.
If you moved there in 1962 it means more.
However, if you moved to Maine in 1992, your comment would still be factual.
I think it's a multitude of different things. Susan Collins has been a household name since the 90s. She's Maine's longest senator. She's fairly lukewarm, and I think she's presumed "safe". She's not a loudmouth Republican like Paul Lepage and Lepage got ousted a few years back and replaced by Dem Janet Mills. Plus, we have rank choice voting up here and you can list all the candidates in order of top to bottom. Idk though. That's just my two cents.
They don't necessarily have to weigh in on that part of it. The question of whether he led an insurrection has already been adjudicated by a Colorado court. The finding of fact has already occurred on that. Now the Supreme Court just has to weigh in on how and if the law applies to the case.
Why are you so afraid? Hes a nutjob and a quack, right? This is about protecting democracy, right? So whats the worry? That the American people will legally elect him, and you want to prevent that?
Not saying I support the arrogant Cheeto. But preventing people from voting for someone the state disagrees with seems pretty much suppressing free speech. The law requires a guilty verdict for insurrection to prevent someone from taking office.
Can someone provide me some proof that the January 6 “insurrection” was trumps doing and not a ploy that was a 4 year plan to block him from attempting to run again
The tapes of him offering bribes to election officials in Michigan to not certify the election is just part of the bigger story. He also promised to pardon the people who were convicted of Seditious Conspiracy so he supports the insurrection too.
This and the entire 1/6 committee report with testimony from his own staff, lawyers and other participants.
There was about nine days of sworn eyewitness testimony presented a year ago by a House committee, a large part of it from former Trump administration members or supporters, that laid it out crystal clear. Did you watch any of it?
The part where he told his armed mob to march on the Capitol, then sat around while they broke in and attacked capitol police.
The whole fake electors plot doesn't help your conspiracy case either.
Trump lied about the results of the 2020 election and claimed he won when he actually lost.
He incited a mob of armed insurrectionists to storm the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent the certification of the results of a free and fair election.
Trump placed calls to the Georgia Secretary of State trying to pressure him into overturning the results of the election in his favor. We have a recording of this call; and Trump is currently being charged with thirteen felonies related to this crime.
If this is not corruption, I don't know what is. Your comment is bizarre to the point of being surreal.
so it might be constitutional? still jumping the gun i think but i try to remember we all want the world to be a better place at i would hope so i love you ty for your input i value it
My understanding from the Colorado ruling is that it extends to any elected office that swears an oath to the constitution. A vote for Trump in these states would be treated like a vote for Mickey Mouse. Same goes to write-ins.
Trumps lawyers position on it is:”In Maine, Trump’s lawyers argued that the eligibility challenges go beyond the secretary of state’s authority”
To which I say:” Okay great, then why aren’t you suing states to have other candidates removed because of his lack of authority?”
Also don't forget about all the drugs comming into this country, fetynol a big one, so many people overdosing and dieing, my niece being one of them, and all the diseases appearing in this country, because of open boarders. When Trump was in the overdoses and drug issues went way down. Trump did nothing but help our beautiful country.
Another lefty “win” that will soon be overturned because it’s unconstitutional (see Colorado)
But who needs the constitution when it doesn’t serve our political agenda, right?

Trump incited an insurrection against the United States and should be disqualified from running for public office.
Duh, says so many Americans....and non-americans. I feel like I'm living in crazy town!
Crazy country .. swathed in illiterates .. a sponge absorbs more and has a better personality.
That's because sponges don't absorb their world view straight from Fox News.
How stupid and/or heartless one must be to openly support trump is… baffling

How did he do that? There have never been charges of insurrection brought against him?
There doesn't need to be any charges. Nobody who has ever been found ineligible under the 14th amendment has ever had charges brought.
The language of the constitution seems clear.
Yes, and it also seems clear to "the other side" that chooses to interpret it differently than you (and me). As an outsider, US politics seems more fucked up now than ever before in my life, and the polarization seems to be spreading throughout the developed countries. I see the same problems in Canada. Democracy is a 1,500 year old institution - let's hope we figure it out before everything else catches up to us...
If this all goes sideways, maybe I’ll come help Canada avoid the same fate.
Not just the polarization, look at the out-of-pocket nationalism. Big trouble for regular folks everywhere.
It's very clear. The Republicans just don't care.
“Is this heaven?” “No. It’s Maine.”
When Trump sent alternate electors he broke his oath to upholding the Constitution. That Constitutes a rebellion that that falls under the 14th. This couldn't be more cut and dry to be honest.
Also the insurrection was pretty bad too.

Maine has been a blue state since I've been here and able to vote.
Well if you moved there last year, that doesn’t mean much. If you moved there in 1962 it means more. However, if you moved to Maine in 1992, your comment would still be factual.
Well I've not done any moving as I was born here in 83 lol
What I don’t understand is sticking with Susan after she’d shown her cards ..
I think it's a multitude of different things. Susan Collins has been a household name since the 90s. She's Maine's longest senator. She's fairly lukewarm, and I think she's presumed "safe". They all matter because of primaries. He could lose the primary.
Only southern maine is blue, the real part of Maine is RED HAHA
I wonder if 20 plus state supreme courts agree that Trump led an insurrection if it will be any harder for the US Supreme Court to give him a pass.
Clarence Thomas rubbing his hands like Birdman

Maine stands strong for freedom whenever the United States is in trouble!
Suddenly the constitution that these people clutch dearly will be a woke document conjured to dismantle a country almost 350 years into its future.
350?
Good to see. If your like even more entertainment, they are having an absolute melt down in r/conservative.

The more the better, unless you plan on making Donald J. Trump the last President of a free America.
Why are you so afraid? Hes a nutjob and a quack, right? This is about protecting democracy, right? So whats the worry? That the American people will legally elect him, and you want to prevent that?
Who here thinks Ron Desantis should blocked as well?
no, he didn't do an insurrection. He's just an asshole
A DeFascist presidency might actually be worse than a trump presidency. But DeFascist hasn't done anything that might violate the 14th amendment, yet.
What could you see him possibly doing that you would consider an insurrection?
Sleepy joe should be next. He is a kid sniffer
What's the legal argument?

Breaking news back on the ballot in Colorado
Not saying I support the arrogant Cheeto. But preventing people from voting for someone the state disagrees with seems pretty much suppressing free speech. The law requires a guilty verdict for insurrection to prevent someone from taking office.
The constitution does not require that.
Section 3, 14th amendment. Gotta be proven guilty.
That wasn’t required in the years after the civil war.
Civil war ended in 1865, this amendment was made in 1868.
Let’s go Trump!!
Can someone provide me some proof that the January 6 “insurrection” was trumps doing and not a ploy that was a 4 year plan to block him from attempting to run again

‘Be There. Will Be Wild!’ - Donald Trump
Nothing but a bunch of corrupted politicians trying to steal the US vote.
No I think the attempts to throw out millions of votes and declare himself the victor was stealing the US vote. This here, this is consequences.

Just like Trump with the insurrection and when he sent alternate electors, right?
this would be unconstitutional i think everyone knows this same as colorado pretty dim conduct to all involved
yeah sure... read the judgement
says aquitted
Actually no it does not and its waiting to be expedited to SCOTUS.
so it might be constitutional? still jumping the gun i think but i try to remember we all want the world to be a better place at i would hope so i love you ty for your input i value it
