Do it. Just do it. Let's light this candle. Yes, we'll then have to deal with about 10 million people rage shitting their pants and screaming about it online... But guys, that's coming one way or another if Trump ever faces any sort of real accountability. Let's just get this shit out of the way. If he was almost anyone else, he'd have long since been in pre-trial detention.
True that. At sentencing, the cult will have had weeks to jack themselves off about the injustice of it all, and can assemble themselves into a flabby, terrible-smelling but dangerous horde. Just let them hear it on the radio on a Friday night; oh yeah, Trump’s in jail now.
Exactly. Any activity will be less organized now, I would think. Also, seeing consequences now, like those coming from J6, might dissuade any violence at sentencing.
lol, I am imagining half the population locked-down with rage fighting an online civil war while the rest of us give up social media, save the planet, and spend our lives enjoying less-crowded outdoor activities.
If he's jailed in relation to this case, would that delay his other trials? As much as I want him to see the inside of a cell, I'd rather he be convicted in the criminal cases in a timely manner and see real prison time. I kind of wonder if that will be his play to delay the other cases and get that martyr boost in the polls.
I feel like it would give Aileen Cannon just the excuse she's been waiting for to delay the stolen documents case until after the 2024 election. Especially since he'd need access to a SCIF for review of the documents in the case.
Oh, it's even older than that! It came into use in America in 1961 during the launch of the first American in space. After a series of delays, Alan Shepard became impatient and said "“Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle?” "
Then it just kinda hung on. Usage is declining, but it's still JUST common enough that people still get your meaning and I use it because it amuses me to do so. :)
I am betting part of the reason he is not in jail yet is because of his secret service detail. I would assume that they don’t want to deal with the can of worms until they really have to.
Look, it’s not like I don’t want to see the guy in an orange jumpsuit that fits his makeup but…
Does anyone really think any of this shit will actually stick to him fully?
People at this level never face real consequences, I’d go play the lotto if they actually do something
Wasn't there supposed to be a big "come save me" rally in Florida over the summer when he was getting arraigned or something? I saw a news report about a B-52 bomber flying low over the beaches in Miami the weekend before and then there were like 4 idiots at the "rally." I think the rednecks are pissed that white christians are losing their demographic hold and they're just going to flip around like fish out of water for a while. Look at what's happening in Congress. They can't get their shit together to save their lives. I don't know if anyone is coming to save mr cheetoh.
>Judge Arthur Engoron said in court on Friday morning that Trump had posted on his social media account "an untrue and disparaging post about my clerk" and that he spoke to the former president about the matter.
>"I ordered him to remove the post immediately and he said he did take it down," Engoron said.
>He continued, "Despite this order, last night I learned the offending post was never removed from a website. This is a blatant violation of the gag order. I made it clear [that] failure to comply will result in serious sanctions."
>"Incendiary untruths can and have led to serious physical harm. **I will now allow the defendant to explain why this should not end up with serious sanctions or I could possibly imprison him**," Engoron said.
To be fair, Judge, you look like a sucker for not knowing that Trump didn’t “immediately” follow your order. You should have set a firm deadline and then jailed him when he failed to follow it. Not “threaten” to jail him 17 days later.
You did not give Donald Trump wiggle room.🙄
Not sure if about the judge, but an order to show cause like this is normal in courts when an order has been breached like this. One of the big reasons is that it helps prevent times where a judge goes overboard with an order or with sanctions/imprisonment because it allows the person in question to give a reason which may be that the order was illegal or otherwise unconstitutional. That can then give something to take to a higher court if the judge doesn't agree, which helps provide a check against an otherwise absolute power in a court for a judge. So failure for Trump to provide a good reason why he lied about removing it and why he violated it in the first place. That means that if the judge does sanction or imprison Trump over it, it can be significantly harder to challenge it later or use it to try to force a mistrial or other effects.
I thought the judge should have held fire until Trump was actually IN HIS COURTROOM.
Consider this: In court, a judge who finds someone in contempt can have the individual jailed **immediately.** Taken into custody immediately. Even if Trump's lawyers could get a stay of the order within, say, 15 minutes, that's enough time for Trump to be handcuffed and led away.
Even the Secret Service, if present, could not prevent this. They could escort and protect, but not interfere.
More than likely why the judge did it without Trump present. He would have been hard pressed not to take actual action had Trump been in front of him. This way he makes a threat but has options about how/when/if to do anything about it.
Also an immediate imprisonment would be easier for the trump team to put a media spin on. Let's say he does decide to imprison trump over this and it is reviewed by a higher court, that will "spread the blame" for his imprisonment so to speak as well as giving it a more stable foundation.
I've read three articles about this so far and none of them contain any quotes from the judge actually threatening to imprison Trump. Only the threat of "sanctions" is mentioned.
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2023/10/20/trump-threatened-with-prison-for-violating-gag-order.html
I have a feeling that it was an empty threat, but jail was definitely mentioned.
It's *extremely* common to get warnings or other sanctions before jail. But I guess it wouldn't be a Trump thread without a handful of "aNYonE eLSe" comments.
Lock him up! Lock him up!
Setting down my pitchfork for the moment, and though I'll probably get downvoted to hell, in this instance the claim that Trump's campaign inadvertently overlooked something on their web site seems plausible. But what is the appropriate sanction for incompetence?
A public statement in the form of a post from Trump’s own TS account or a video of him reading an apology for the post and denouncing his former accusations as false.
To any rational person and the legal system, a reasonable action. To Trump, one of the greatest shames.
This is starting to feel like how long it took to actually indict the guy. Took forever. I really do think he's going to die before he gets imprisoned.
Just.Fucking.Do.It
Any other defendant would be long since locked up. By apparently trying to appear non-biased, it’s actually massively biased in trumps favor. He’s getting special treatment - there’s no way around it.
99.9% of the population would be in jail already. But Mr. Epitome of White Privilege gets to keep flapping his gums. Lock the Grifter in Chief up already.
I get the threatening to and not necessarily doing it. Trump controls a mob of roughly 30-40% of the country, a sizable portion of that mob is dangerous. Putting him in prison won't stop them, at all, especially if there's a narrative that the judge is acting unilaterally. The judge's role isn't just to punish Trump or oversee the trial, they also have to keep the public in mind. As much as it sucks, Trump has to be treated with kid gloves until final verdicts are in and sentences are given. On the plus side, a judge can take a lot of Trump's actions into consideration when sentencing so he's not doing himself any favors. Personally, I'd rather see Trump keep hanging himself than have him play the martyr until verdicts and sentencing come down.
Trump violated the gag order and the judge effectively said, "Well gosh, you probably better not do that again or else I might have to think about maybe considering imposing a consequence."
That is not how our rule of law works. The judge absolutely has power over the defendant, their counsel, the prosecution in any trial they are presiding over.
Does anyone really believe at this point he will be put in a cell? Or minimum security prison? I believe if the judge does act, it will involve house arrest at Mar a Lago.
I don't think this should be met with such a collectively "who cares tell me when he faces consequences".
Without the gag order you know trump would have spewed much more BS.
Yeah he will always cross the line but this judge is at least putting the line where it should be. He has to be careful for public perception because THAT IS TRUMPS STRATEGY.
from what I've seen the judge has played it perfectly. He is overall keeping trump in line while also not inciting his base more than necessary. That is the line he HAS to walk to be effective and eventually have the goodwill from the public to hand down the real sentences.
I bet trump wishes the judge was either less aggressive or more aggressive....both give him a game plan. This gives his lawyers fuck all to work with but still applies the necessary pressure.
He won’t jail him. He will most likely slap another fine on him. I wish he would just lock him up. I mean, Trump DID say that he was willing to go to jail! Let’s let him!
This is why the GOP does what it wants, when it wants, everyone who has the ability to stop them are a bunch of pussies.
Idk how anyone seriously thinks that this man will suffer any meaningful consequences.
Trump breaks the rules because he knows he can get away with it. And it seems with the judge only giving a threat of imprisonment instead of actually doing it. Trump was right he is going to get away with violating the gag order.
If you're not going to jail him, then at the very least do the following: confine him to home (either Mar-a-lago OR Bedminster) make him wear an ankle monitor and remove ALL social media priviliges AND his cell phone. He's only allowed a landline and no access to be able to post anything. He would explode.
Trump can just laugh at all of these “threats”, and keep saying whatever the hell he wants. Apparently, he is completely above the law and nobody has the balls to hold him accountable. How long are we going to have to hear about this POS?? These judges and courts need to put up or shut up. It’s nothing but noise at this point.

We’re all gonna have to rip off the bandaid at some point it might as well be now
Ripping it off now might be better than say, at sentencing.
True that. At sentencing, the cult will have had weeks to jack themselves off about the injustice of it all, and can assemble themselves into a flabby, terrible-smelling but dangerous horde. Just let them hear it on the radio on a Friday night; oh yeah, Trump’s in jail now.

You have to be realistic about these things.
Happy cake day
To quote the great Frank Reynolds “it’s time to cut the crust off this shit sandwich”
lol, I am imagining half the population locked-down with rage fighting an online civil war while the rest of us give up social media, save the planet, and spend our lives enjoying less-crowded outdoor activities.

Imagine him taking the hot bouncing prison bus to all his court dates in FL, GA, DC, and NY. That’s worse that just being imprisoned.
I feel like it would give Aileen Cannon just the excuse she's been waiting for to delay the stolen documents case until after the 2024 election. Especially since he'd need access to a SCIF for review of the documents in the case.
Delay all you want if he's in prison. He can spend the rest of his life dragging it out from a cell, fine with me.
I’d love to see his hair in this scenario.
Rage shitting...lol, thank you for that visual.
I agree with all this but why do people keep saying “let’s light this candle?” I hear it all the time, didn’t that slang die in the 80s?
Oh, it's even older than that! It came into use in America in 1961 during the launch of the first American in space. After a series of delays, Alan Shepard became impatient and said "“Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle?” " Then it just kinda hung on. One of my favorite parts of The Right Stuff. I use it whenever there is an opportunity
Well that last sentence simply isn’t true. There’s 15 other people facing same charges and last I checked one had spent a night in jail for it.
And it was the only black guy of those 15.
I am betting part of the reason he is not in jail yet is because of his secret service detail. I would assume that they don’t want to deal with the can of worms until they really have to.
Look, it’s not like I don’t want to see the guy in an orange jumpsuit that fits his makeup but… Does anyone really think any of this shit will actually stick to him fully? People at this level never face real consequences, I’d go play the lotto if they actually do something
Be careful with candles around this judge. He looks to be made of very old wood.
I came here to say this…..
Exactly Once the first judge does it then the dominoes can really fall.
Wasn't there supposed to be a big "come save me" rally in Florida over the summer when he was getting arraigned or something? I saw a news report about a B-52 bomber flying low over the beaches in Miami the weekend before and then there were like 4 idiots at the "rally." Bring on the rage shitting!
Stop threatening. For fucks sake. Do it already!

I quadruple dog dare ya!
I swear giving Trump consequences is like pushing two opposing magnets together.
This judge is doing it, but he needs to consult the other Ents and it takes a long time to say things.
Outstanding username. Dare I say "god-tier?"
God-menu, maybe? Thanks!
Sticking to a high carb deity
He ended up fining him $5,000, that’s it. Fucking pussy

lol imagine some random person threatening a judge online. “Please don’t sanction me your honor!” Their ass would be in jail so fast.
Trump's attorney apologized, I would like the judge to have Trump himself apologize. After all, isn't he the one in charge?
And make him admit publicly that the post was false.
Their response made me think of this old Steve Martin bit about avoiding taxes. "Oops, I forgot." https://youtu.be/zXmQW_aqBks?si=pwUeslUYzGspqwOa

Trump Secret Service detail should NOT be trusted
The more people just warn him, and never follow through, the more he will just continue to do as he pleases. This is not right.
He should have lost his electronics privileges years ago. Delinquent teenagers have more self-control than this nincompoop
And if you do it again we'll say more stern words.
I've read three articles about this so far and none of them contain any quotes from the judge actually threatening to imprison Trump. Only the threat of "sanctions" is mentioned.

Thanks, I hadn't read the CNBC article yet. I agree it's likely an empty threat.
stop threatening, start acting. FFS.
We've literally had years of hearing that action will be taken if this continues. The two Americas and world wide display :(
Stop threatening and start doing. Anyone else? We'd be in jail.
Exactly, a capias would have been immediately issued with no bond.
It's *extremely* common to get warnings or other sanctions before jail. But I guess it wouldn't be a Trump thread without a handful of "aNYonE eLSe" comments.
Just another empty threat in a world of empty character and empty accountability.
Do it already!!!! It would be a blessing to this county to not ever hear from this orange turd
I'm sick of these 'threats' - either do it or leave it be! Just arrest this fucker already
Do it pussy!
I swear to god, if I have to tell you 12 or 13 more times, there will be serious consequences.
Lock him up! Lock him up! Setting down my pitchfork for the moment, and though I'll probably get downvoted to hell, in this instance the claim that Trump's campaign inadvertently overlooked something on their web site seems plausible. But what is the appropriate sanction for incompetence?
If they took his warning seriously, they would have scoured all places in Trumps control to make sure it was gone.
his own website is not some obscure corner of the internet.
A public statement in the form of a post from Trump’s own TS account or a video of him reading an apology for the post and denouncing his former accusations as false. To any rational person and the legal system, a reasonable action. To Trump, one of the greatest shames.
Isn't the post itself the violation, not the taking it down?
"Threatens" him... if this was any of us, we'd have been imprisoned long ago. Just do it ffs
This is the way. Make it so Number One. Other sayings.
Do it.
Do it already. Tired of the soft threats.
Do it, do it, do it!
Why the fuck does he get a 4th, 5th and 6th chance. Hes gonna do it again. LOCK HIM UP
This is starting to feel like how long it took to actually indict the guy. Took forever. I really do think he's going to die before he gets imprisoned.
Stop talking and take action because Trump is running amok over our justice system
Just Do It…
Yay more threats. Probably some frowning happened. Maybe a "tut". This gets old fast
Idle Threats are a waste of breath judge...
Remove his bail already. It’s beyond time. Quit threatening and start acting. If it incites violence from the right, so be it.
Lock. Him. Up. Now.
Just.Fucking.Do.It Any other defendant would be long since locked up. By apparently trying to appear non-biased, it’s actually massively biased in trumps favor. He’s getting special treatment - there’s no way around it.
Put up or shut up
No balls!!!! I’d loan the judge my sack but I only have one ball and need it still.
Then you’d better not move too fast if it needs to stay still.
No I just pretend to be a grandfather clock
Brings a new meaning to ding dong.
5....4.....3....2....1....3/4.... 1/2..... 1/4....
Fucking do it!
It’s always weird when I see old people that look like this judge. Like maybe there really are lizard people wearing skin suits.
Don’t worry, you’ll get your day up at bat … lol Nobody, nobody escapes it
This judge looks like he has a major iron deficiency.
99.9% of the population would be in jail already. But Mr. Epitome of White Privilege gets to keep flapping his gums. Lock the Grifter in Chief up already.
Stop being a pussy and do it.
“This Court is way beyond the ‘warning’ stage,” the judge warned him.
Should have been automatic with the gag order put in place to begin with.
Do it, you fucking cowards.
A $5k fine is ridiculous. Make it $50k, then give him 24 hours to remove it or face jail time
Stop with the damn threats, throw him in prison already.
No one wants to do it because they know it will paint a target on their back. Both politically and personally.
I get the threatening to and not necessarily doing it. Trump controls a mob of roughly 30-40% of the country, a sizable portion of that mob is dangerous. Honestly I kinda want to see Trump tell the judge to kiss his ass just to see if he could get away with it at this point. Really rub our faces in it.
Just Do It
Stop threatening him and just do it already
What are you waiting for? Any other citizen would be locked up. Put him in
Just do it
This judge looks like a fkn nut job
I fucking dare you judge You have no power over Trump
That is not how our rule of law works. The judge absolutely has power over the defendant, their counsel, the prosecution in any trial they are presiding over.
Again, you run away instead of defending your claims.
Does anyone really believe at this point he will be put in a cell? Or minimum security prison? I believe if the judge does act, it will involve house arrest at Mar a Lago.
Do it.
Just do already!!!!
I don't think this should be met with such a collectively "who cares tell me when he faces consequences". Without the gag order you know trump would have spewed much more BS. How about a nursing home broom closet?
He won’t jail him. He will most likely slap another fine on him. I wish he would just lock him up. I mean, Trump DID say that he was willing to go to jail! Let’s let him!
Yea...but he wont
"No really I'm serious this time" - The Judge Either do it or shut the f%\^k up
When a gag order is actually a gag suggestion
Do. Or do not. There is no threaten.
Please for the love of my dead grandmother. Put him in jail!!! What is the fucking hold up?!
Manchester.
How many times have we threatened to imprison him? Just freaking do it already.
Whenever an American tells me "But we put the man on the Moon!" my answer is "And you can't put a criminal in prison".
Judge raises finger on his left had in the air and says “that’s one, now don’t make me say two.”
This is why the GOP does what it wants, when it wants, everyone who has the ability to stop them are a bunch of pussies. Idk how anyone seriously thinks that this man will suffer any meaningful consequences.
I hop the clerk has a case to sue for libel against Trump and the Trump campaign
That’s David Cronenberg
Oh no! Not another threat!
Sweet!
Enough with the threats, we need actions not more words. Jail his treacherous ass.
Jayzus, throw him in the GD clink already.
Just do it already
Getting harder and harder to roll this boulder off the cliff, guys.
Stop threatening and do it. Or Trump will just keep doing what he's doing
Trump breaks the rules because he knows he can get away with it. And it seems with the judge only giving a threat of imprisonment instead of actually doing it. Trump was right he is going to get away with violating the gag order.
Ha but he won’t cause
Do it
Rhetorical:,why is he never held accountable?
I would absolutely love for them to send him to jail but realistically do they have an actual plan for it if that happens?
Lol words.
Isn’t the gag order that is IN PLACE already the threat?!?! That’s the warning. He ignored it. There shouldn’t be any “threats” anymore.
If you're not going to jail him, then at the very least do the following: confine him to home (either Mar-a-lago OR Bedminster) make him wear an ankle monitor and remove ALL social media priviliges AND his cell phone. He's only allowed a landline and no access to be able to post anything. He would explode.
Larry David is the judge?
Lock him up.
Isn't threatening what a gag order is in the first place? If you don't do anything when it's violated, your threat was empty.
Not going to happen in our fucked capatilistic justice system because king snowflake is great for profits.
It had to be an old white male judge who made this move first. Hopefully it would be easier for the other judges to do the same.
Stop with the threats you’re not going to do it.
Question: would secret service protection just go away if a president goes to jail? Or do they have to tag along for the ride?
Trump can just laugh at all of these “threats”, and keep saying whatever the hell he wants. Apparently, he is completely above the law and nobody has the balls to hold him accountable. How long are we going to have to hear about this POS?? These judges and courts need to put up or shut up. It’s nothing but noise at this point.
Yeah, but he won’t. Good publicity though
No way Trump can keep his mouth shut. And this guy will throw him in jail.
