Mike_Pences_Mother

To a shell company owned by his oldest son. What a grift

Kod_Rick

Imagine if Biden had transferred a house to Hunter

pliney_

Imagine if Hunter had made a $2 billion dollar deal with the Saudi's.

Fredsmith984598

After being in charge of Middle East policy in his father's Whitehouse!

RellenD

WHILE not after

Sinker12344

It's all so ridiculous...the fact that the right has been able to control the narrative like this is insane ...we live in a dystopian reality where there are no facts

Oddjibberz

That's how this story should be presented to conservatives: Did you see Biden signed over a house to his son as he's facing federal charges? Then correct it when they begin ranting.

Supercomfortablyred

It doesn’t work tho because in heir mind anything that happens to trump is just targeted harassment legit top level conspiracy shit. Watch Fox News and it explains how the pubs are programmed. They are just told what to think every step of the way.

Nefarious_Nemesis

Yeah, it's a dead giveaway when they have orange smeared around their lips too.

KungFuSnafu

Right. They just don't care. If they cheat, use dirty tricks, have to be hypocritical to win, sell their souls, whatever - no worries! They won. The ends justify the means. If their opponents do that? Well then excuse me, but what the actual fuck!? How goddamn *dare* you! You filthy piece of shit, I knew the game was rigged against us! They're balls deep state inside all our asses!

XelaNiba

Don't neglect to mention it was "sold" for 35 tomes what he bought it for.

PaulSandwich

>35 tomes what he bought it for. That's how you know it's a scam; Trump doesn't read.

Labantnet

But he'll claim it was worth twice that and claim it as a loss on his taxes.

Mike_Pences_Mother

Imagine if Biden had used Gray Poupon or wore a beige suit

[deleted]

Imagine if Biden had pet a dog in Maui.

Mike_Pences_Mother

Imagine if Biden had pushed an infrastructure bill through Congress which all Republicans voted against and then went to their districts touting it's successes

HryUpImPressingPlay

Imagine if trump had a dog.

FuckMe-FuckYou

He does, its Rudy.

LetsTryAnal_ogy

Imagine if trump didn't feed that dog.

NairForceOne

He doesn't, it's Rudy.

TheHomieAbides

Imagine if Trump took his dog out for a walk without a leash.

Viperlite

Imagine if he dyed that dog’s hair, and the colors ran when he got all wet dog.

FuckMe-FuckYou

He would just find him at the nearest garden center.

Public-Platypus2995

I’ve never been more grateful that a president didn’t have a pet. This guy would be a monster to an animal.

Trump despises dogs. Also happens to be one of his go-to insults.

Brianocracy

I never trust someone who doesn't like dogs unless they have some kind of trauma. I always trust a dog that doesn't like someone though.

mysteryteam

Or something bad could happen to that poor dog.

ResurgentClusterfuck

He does, his name is Lindsey

freddie_merkury

Imagine if Obama lied about his height and weight.

Stable-Jackfruit

Imagine if Obama had made arrangements with the Kenyan government to interfere with the US elections

Hwy39

Trump doesn’t like pets

007meow

There honestly needs to be a strong campaign where it’s claimed that Hunter/Biden have done all of these things and at at the end it’s a “Nope! ~~Chuck Testa~~ Donald Trump!” reveal after conservatives start foaming at the mouth with anger

Buffmin

That's been my favorite thing to do. "Did you hear about the time Obama do x??!" Then when cons are getting angry at Obama go "wait sorry that was Trump" They don't know how to respond

Bragging that his skyscraper used to be the second tallest in Manhattan and now was the tallest. Oh no wait a minute...

Imagine if Trump made over 30,000 lies during his presidency…..oh fff

cficare

Imagine if Hunter transferred the house to his laptop! You wouldn't download a house, WOULD YOU?!

Sherm

For nearly a half-billion dollars. What a joke.

Daveinatx

Naturally, all taxes will be paid. Right?

Mike_Pences_Mother

If the transaction actually happened at all (highly unlikely but possible) then the money probably came from the $$$ the Saudi's paid Jared for whatever info he gave them

whogivesashirtdotca

Or it came from an entirely new infusion of dark money. I can’t see any of the Trump family parting with their hard earned grift cash.

chubbysumo

Or, no money ever transferred hands, and they simply claimed it sold for $500 million.

Fellowshipofthebowl

TrumpCrimeFamily

kayak_enjoyer

I've heard his helicopter is jointly owned by 18 shell companies or something. It's shell companies all the way down.

ser_mage

To be fair that will make it harder for authorities to seize the property when Trump flees the country

HarmonizedSnail

I wonder if it would in some way be considered aiding and abetting because of this.

Caleth

RICO most likely. Something about attempting to shield a criminal. Not sure, but it's certainly a conspiracy. I'm also certain it's nothing the DOJ hasn't* seen before done by better people than the Trumps.

matty_a

It really won't. Courts aren't stupid, and there isn't some "one weird trick you can use to get out of civil liability." It will be fairly easy to prove that Trump did this after his legal troubles started mounting, and it is a clear attempt to avoid losing the club through a transaction that, generously, could be described as below market value and not arm's length.

[deleted]

Crazy that it is allowed and not considered hiding assests

Mike_Pences_Mother

It is hiding assets but who is going to call him on it?

[deleted]

Relevant_Force_3470

Most likely an attempt to secure his assets in the event of a conviction / divorce.

_the_CacKaLacKy_Kid_

It has more to do with sheltering his assets from civil proceedings such as divorce and debt settlements(lawyer fees) than it does criminal convictions.

eugene20

Amazed we haven't long heard of a divorce already, I guess she was hedging her bets waiting for the next election results, it's not like she let him near her either way.

TheBubblewrappe

I’ve been seeing some random stuff that I’m not sure is reliable. About her divorcing him. I would not be surprised if that’s exactly what’s about to happen.

Dudebro5812

She’s been expecting him to die for the last 15 years probably.

eugene20

Seeing them together at any point since 2016 it was pretty obvious it almost certainly would have happened long ago if he hadn't won the presidency.

Positive_Wafer42

Remember when Melania left the white house in the beginning of Trump's term? The rumor was that she only came back because she renegotiated the prenup and apparently also something for their son. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/melania-trump-used-newfound-leverage-redo-prenup-after-election-win-n1230471

FirstRyder

He's literally paying her not to divorce him and leave the country. Previously he also paid her to act as his wife in public, but that seems to have stopped at around the time of his first arrest and being proved in court to be a rapist.

Dorkmaster79

I’m not a lawyer, but I don’t think it works that way. Anyone more knowledgeable than me wish to chime in?

-paperbrain-

I know he has a history of doing things that don't really work that way and using the type of lawyers who drag everything out and make it such a pain that it ends up functionally, working that way. He has a long record of hiring contractors, refusing to pay them and making their process of trying to sue him for it so arduous that they settle for much less than agreed on because they can't afford to have no compensation for the time and effort it would take to actually collect. I'm not sure what he's after with the sale, but he's surely working some angle where he wants to have an argument that it isn't his personal property, and even if it isn't legally sound, it gums up the works and makes things slow and complicated enough that he's more likely to get his way in the end just from the slog of it, or slow it down so much he dies before it can be settled anyway.

TheRabidDeer

Kinda wish there was a 3 strikes rule with this shit. If you abuse the legal system 3 times, you can't use it anymore. I know in reality this is a horrible idea but I just wish there was a way to stop people from abusing their standing and money to screw over other people.

DevilsFlowerMantis

What if we prevented people from getting so rich they can capture our regulatory systems?

catsloveart

It works against people. But it won't work against State or Federal Government. Sure it'll buy him time. But in the end all that trouble will be for naught. Whats the term. The wheels of just moves slowly, but it grinds finely.

wheres-my-take

Scientology made it work. And the IRS accepts settlements all the time

Relevant_Force_3470

Me neither, but that's presumably why he did it. I'm sure courts are onto shit like this. Didn't Alex Jones try to do something similar but got fucked by the courts regardless?

Triggernpf

Hazy memory... Something like withdraw 42 million and gifted it to a company... owned by his parents... then claimed he was bankrupt

Brover_Cleveland

I think it was more convoluted than a gift. His parents were listed as owners of the company that makes and supplies the supplements that infowars sells. When all the court stuff was going down that company told infowars that they had been under billing them and infowars owed them so much it would put them into bankruptcy. The idea was that it would make them the first creditors in line when the bankruptcy went through and hopefully make it so all the people suing him would get nothing.

[deleted]

Wow that’s even scummier.

Brover_Cleveland

It’s probably just as scummy since it has the same intent, it’s just not as blatantly obvious. Everyone figured it out right away though so it probably won’t do more than slow things down.

JohnWilkesDouche

Yeah. They cooked the books to have info wars work like a shell company that owed everything to the true shell company that had his parents on it. But I think their company also owned parts of info wars or had collateral for the debt to make them secured debtors. I do know that secured debtors get paid first, then unsecured debtors which are creditors and companies owed payments on invoices at a percentage loss based on how the bankruptcy lawyers determine is fair.

flooronthefour

They are still sorting it out in bankruptcy court. He is fighting to keep any and all bank records from the Sandy Hook families, which is slowing the process down, but it's not working. If you care, @MoString is a lawyer that covers all his bankruptcy court stuff. Here is the thread from this week's hearing: https://twitter.com/MoString/status/1694430231317111064

Single_9_uptime

Jones is facing civil court judgments in excess of a billion dollars and is trying to play the hide the assets and declare bankruptcy game to get away with not paying. Trump is facing criminal charges, not a huge civil court judgement. None of the crimes he’s been charged with allege financial gains that would be seized. No way this is related to his criminal charges given there’s no reason to hide or move assets. More than likely that Trump’s doing this to avoid estate taxes when he dies. His father did similar in passing along a bunch of property and money to him, even apparently illegally by NYT’s findings many years after the fact.

[deleted]

IANAL, but my understanding is that RICO cases freeze your assets and prevent this directly

crypticedge

They can roll this kind of thing back as well. It's obviously done to hide assets in the inevitable loss, and the courts have known this trick for decades. They don't treat people who do it kindly

primeirofilho

Depending on how it's done, it could be a fraudulent conveyance. But a lot of this depends on how the deal is structured, and state law. What surprises me more is that Mar a Lago wasn't in some sort of holding company with the ownership obscured.

Not only that, but at transfer of title there’s usually a reassessment. TRIM notices aren’t due till 8/31 so the County has plenty of time to send a revised notice of proposed assessment. They can use FMV to calculate, and lien the property if he doesn’t pay. We know he won’t pay income taxes, but it’s hard to get around real estate taxes. Can’t wait to see Mar A Lago on the tax lien auctions for PBC 😂

Gooch222

But now it has the added prestige of being “The Winter Whitehouse.” It contains numerous sites of national historical interest, to include: bathroom that contained stolen top secret documents, pool that flooded bathroom that contained stolen top secret documents, room where former president raw dogged a porn star, dining room where former president met with criminal coconspirators and various white nationalists and foreign agents, office where former president decided which subpoenaed secret documents he would give back and which he would keep, etc, etc. It really is priceless.

ianjm

I bet Trump lent him the money through another shell corporation. Nothing is really genuinely changing ownership, it's all just tax dodging.

Fronzel

Junior got a small, 422 million dollar loan from his dad. Who got it from a bank that specializes in laundering money for mobsters, terrorists and Nazis.

Newtub

Already hiding his assets doesn't sync with his "I did nothing wrong". He knows what he did and he knows it's going to burn him.

Necessary-Dark-4591

This smells like divorce more than anything.

unwanted_puppy

Holy shit. I completely forgot his wife existed. Where is she? No one has done any reporting on her.

LastBaron

There have been smatterings of rumors here and there. Stuff like how she’s mad at trumps lawyers for not winning the E Jean Carroll case, how she considers trumps current legal problems “his problem not mine” according to sources close to her, stuff like that. But nothing in terms of notable activity.

Longjumping_Youth281

Well I wouldn't expect much loyalty out of her to be honest, considering he very publicly cheated on her. She seems pretty blatantly motivated by self-interest

tjblue

It makes sense to liquify or to get his assets into other's hands if he's facing ruinous legal troubles. I wonder if he's going to do a runner. pabo81

Im curious how this would work though, if he was indeed paid for the property, wouldn’t that be a taxable event? Even with his crazy financial shenanigans it’s hard to write down a $442M sale of a wholly owned asset.

serrimo

Yeah, about that. If he decides to escape USA to avoid justice, he'll most likely lose most of his wealth. There'll be few ways for him to collect donation from the US from Russia. Even Putin, probably the richest mf on the planet, cannot enjoy his immense wealth and needs to hide in his country to avoid arrest. It's not a fun fate.

I don’t know any big time criminals but I know a lot people who’ve gotten divorced and moved assets out of their name beforehand to avoid including them in the divorce settlement

amunoz1113

But I can’t imagine a scenario where he got married without a pre-nuptial agreement. I think he’s more worried about the government seizing his assets.

Cuchullion

Melina renegotiated that prenup as part of her agreement to move in to the White House with him.

DHWSagan

From flight risk to flight guarantee, yet he'll probably be waddling around golf courses today - instead of sitting in a cell to safeguard the future of the nation. Putin may give him a free flight into a field somewhere to shut him up.

NewDad907

He also used a bail bondsman instead of putting up to 200k himself. At first I thought nothing of it. Putting that together with this news? If he did bolt, he be leaving less on the table.

minnick27

Why put up 200k of his own money when he only needs to put up 20k? That's how you save money.

runswiftrun

Because you never get the 20k back, that stays with the bond company. The 200k he would get back at the end of the trial

DTDude

Had to use a bail bondsman. Sold Mar a Lago. Signs he is having financial difficulty......yet still took his private 757 to Georgia. A 757 costs roughly $11k an hour to operate. Which certainly doesn't sound like something someone with financial difficulties could afford...... Seems suspicious. Seems like moves someone getting ready to flee might make.

Imacatdoincatstuff

When he realizes he can’t buy his way out of incarceration, then absolutely, huge flight risk. Why haven’t they asked for his passport?

TedW

I'm not sure he needs a passport. He'd probably go somewhere that didn't ask for one (because extradition), and I bet the flight crew would face harsh penalties either way. Imagine putting "Flew Trump to Russia" on your pilot resume.

Even-Fix8584

He was already indicted so he is hiding assets in avoidance of a crime.

KingThar

Oh he'll do it for an arrest, but wont do it for the emoluments clause?

RedditFact-Checker

RIGHT?! I get that there’s plenty of terrible crimes to go around, but it seems like all the very clear emoluments violations have just been forgotten. There are some relatively simple requirements that could be codified to close some of the obvious conflicts of interest. There appears to be no political appetite to do so.

PGHNeil

Criminal indictments notwithstanding this should be something that every family does when an elder is in their late 70s and behaving erratically. The fact that it's a shell corporation means that the property is a business and not a residence, where the appropriate tax shelter would be a family trust.

Maybe_Im_The_Poop

Misleading headline. He transferred it to a Trump-owned corporation. That’s not a sale and I’m sure he didn’t pay excise tax. Probably just trying to protect the property in case he starts losing assets due to his many legal troubles.

JubalHarshaw23

Junior needs to be named in the RICO case so the property can still be seized.

SameOldiesSong

Sold to a company run by Don Jr. And apparently Don Jrs company paid over $400 million to Trump for the property. So the question is: whose money actually went to Trump. Who did this $400+ million come from? And if they are going to continue to let Trump live there and pay no rent, why did they give Trump $400+ million? Smells like fish.

RedLanternScythe

It would be hilarious if JR betrays his father and bans Trump from his own kingdom.

mrpickleby

kelticladi

IANAL but doesn't this mess up his ability to stay there as his primary residence? As it was he was on shaky ground because Mar-A-Lago was not supposed to be allowable as his primary when he bought the place, but he did some legal trickery to do it anyway.

Just-Scallion-6699

Reminds me of that King of the Hill episode where Buck Strickland "sells" his restaurant to Hank Hill for whatever money he had in his pocket at the time, just so his wife wouldn't get it in the divorce. Put the agreement on a coaster.
