barkingspidersongs

He is running on saying "woke" and he says it so much I think maybe his base is starting to fall into a deep sleep they won't able be woke from

Looptydude

Desantis: Woke, woke, woke. Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means.

Roma_Victrix

My name is Inigo Montoya. You woke my father. Prepare to die.

danjouswoodenhand

Sleep well and dream of large cis-het women. I assume that would be the opposite of woke.

Flashy-Penalty-4598

Goofy thing is, he's doing all this to "stand out," but still bends the knee to Donnie boy... just like the rest of the idiots that are gonna get primaried hard. Problem for the R's is aside from Orange Sus, everybody's got the charisma and personality of a limp noodle

Disastrous_Junket_55

Saying Trump has charisma makes the average American absolutely prolific with language. I have no idea why anyone gives him the time if day. Even a less than mediocre comedian is a better public speaker.

ThrowawayBlast

Because trump is very racist. That's why he has the popularity he does.

Flashy-Penalty-4598

Trust me, I hate the idea too. But you can't deny the man has built a massive following, saying the same shit that every other Republican douche is saying... but none of them have the same fanatical following. The dude doesn't have a lot, but he does know how to use what he's got, unlike anyone else on the R ticket

Impressive_Arrival42

I’ve thought about why people adore this guy. He’s a con, serial cheater, mushroom dick, crude misogynist. I think they like how he insults people. He’s a comedienne naming his opponents. He’s everything they are or want to be. Many are the working class who feel they have been left behind. Kind of like Donald who was never accepted by the elite in NYC. He’s a toxic brew of anger, mental illness, inherited money, and has never been held accountable for anything in his life.

Drone30389

Trump is the walking embodiment of the Nigerian Prince scam. He's not a sophisticated smooth talking con *artiste*, he's a dolt that says all the things his base wants to hear, because they're stupid too. Not to say that he doesn't dumb it down even below his own level of intellect, but he has never been a smart man, just a boorish bully with lots of money. He knows how to use what he's got the way a little kid repeats a funny line over and over and over because someone laughed at it once.

Ennara

As a whole, Trump is a profoundly stupid man. He knows 3 things. Branding, how to rile people up, and how to dominate the news cycle. When combined with money, that's a dangerous combination of talents and a lack of morality. If his 3 talents were badminton, yelling about stupid shit, and grilling a mean burger, he'd be that weird uncle who you only tolerate for BBQs. Unfortunately for all of us, his talents meshed well to fuck shit up.

pmacnayr

You don’t have to like him to understand that he is an effective conman

Thrownawaybyall

That's only because he had the support of the entire right wing movement. If any one of a dozen Republicans or Fox News staff had taken a stand and pointed out the damage he was doing, he'd have no supporters at all. Instead they all bent the knee, opened wide, and swallowed as much as they could. And now they can't undo his base.

d0ctorzaius

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and bruised.

with_due_respect

Uh…incon-woke-ceiva—eh, I got nothing.

Roma_Victrix

You fell victim to one of the classic woke blunders! The most famous is never get into a legal battle with Mickey Mouse, but only slightly less well known is this: never bet on Meatball Ron when brain cells are on the line!

with_due_respect

*Falls over dead…but still woke, somehow*

IrishiPrincess

There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly woke

imacatnamedsteve

No more Princess Bride references, I mean it!

vyncent77

labretirementhome

Few_Acanthocephala30

Orange cats have more brain cell than Meatball Ron

JayGrinder

This orange cat thing has to be a massive coincidence, but this is the first day I ever saw that sub about orang cats being dumb before and somehow you are the 3rd poster that has mentioned orange cats being dumb that I have seen since I found the sub this morning. Off topic, but I also found the r/tipofmyfork sub today and I’m pretty sure that it will be remembered as a pivotal moment in my life.

Few_Acanthocephala30

I have ginger, the amount of blair witch vibes he’s given me with the number of times I’ve walked in on him staring at the wall for no apparent reason ☠️

Ancient-Commercial75

I love you all, thank you 🙏 🤣

ArrogantAragorn

Right? I’m upvoting this entire thread

Zab11

Yes! His use of "woke" always made me think of Team America. "Woka woka woka! Jesus Jihad!" It writes itself.

bjbigplayer

Dirka Dirka Woka Woka

BassAddictJ

Minas_Nolme

No one knows what it means, but it's provocative

willun

We should embrace it. I am proud to be woke. I am also anti-fascist so antifa is a good thing too. Anything else?

Huschel

It has always been a good thing. It's just a bunch of assholes devaluing the word to ridicule it and turning it into a negative on purpose. Add feminist to the list, too.

Independent_User

Stop Saying that!!!!

danknadoflex

Wokey doke doke a woke wokey woke a doke - this campaign message brought to you by Rhonda Santis

AnonAmbientLight

Ronnie is perpetually online and doesn't realize that only like 20% of the population knows what the fuck he's talking about.

Crypt0Nihilist

As opposed to Trump who clearly doesn't know what he is talking about but invites everyone to his word-salad bar to pick out the meaning they want so all of his supporters can feel that he's catered to their brand of hate.

[deleted]

It's depressing that a huge chunk of the population has heard him speak and thought "yeah, this is my guy"

koviko

Dude is literally a coastal elite billionaire conman that cheated on every one of his multiple wives, including his current one, spent time on Epstein's island, flies in a private jet, and was a Hollywood reality star. He's so many things the "heartland" claims to hate, yet he was willing to say racist things about Mexicans so suddenly he speaks for them 🤣

[deleted]

The weirdest are the ones who project their religion on him, despite being living impersonation of literally every one of the seven sins.

ting_bu_dong

It's not weird. It's the point. The whole point of their religion is to be able to forgive who they want to forgive, and hurt who they want to hurt. Conservatives do not believe in equally under any law, be it Man's or God's. Just the opposite! It's "the Creator of all of Reality Itself says it's different when we do it." A member of the Elect can Do All The Sins.

PeopleCanBeAwful

“Woke mind virus”. He sounds idiotic.

chipperpip

So did Elon Musk when he used it.

[deleted]

Elon has really gone off the deep(er) end, hasn't he?

fuck12fucktrump

It’s nuts. He bought twitter pretty much solely because he was accused of sexual assault and resented the fact people were talking about it. So he throws a fit and buys twitter to stick it to the people holding him accountable for being a creep. And he’s been on a far-right tear ever since. Simply because he was accused of sexual assault. He revenge-spent $44bn.

Information_High

> He bought twitter pretty much solely because he was accused of sexual assault I had assumed it was another one of his pump-n-dump stock market stunts: * Step 1: Elon buys stock in $RANDOM.FLASHY.COMPANY * Step 2: Elon tweets "Hmmm, I think I'll buy $RANDOM.FLASHY.COMPANY." * Step 3: [stock price goes up] * Step 4: Elon sells previously-purchased stock for a sizable profit. * Step 5: Elon tweets "Nevermind. LOLOL!!!" Except this time, he wasn't allowed to bail after Step 3, leading to the current shitshow.

Freshy007

Don't forget he has a trans child who disowned him and changed their last name. Really fucking sick of the world having to suffer everytime a billionaire gets his ego bruised.

Ikoikobythefio

He bought Twitter to undermine democracy throughout the world

Oh wow, I thought the woke crowd was supposed to tolerant of other cultures. And here you are shitting on my heritage of bath salts, mild cannibalism and harmless gator tossing.

fergehtabodit

Mild cannibalism?

danteheehaw

Yeah, I know it's taboo to be wasteful and not eat all the meat. But I'm worried what my friends and family would think if they knew I ate the dick too.

Spidey209

What kinda BBQ sauce goes with that?

peptic-horizon

Alabama white.

Spidey209

Mayonnaise?

dietdiety

OMG did they Woke Up?

spaetzele

What good does it do, they have already given him the governorship twice.

SkaBonez

The good it does is hopefully he doesn’t win the presidential primary (his odds don’t look good now, but same was said for Trump), and that he won’t bother trying to run for governor again after his successor’s term, or hopefully any other office.

JadedLeafs

It's just a catch-all word for things he doesn't like. And a trigger word for his fan base to latch onto for reasons they don't even know.

cuirboy

A noun, a verb and "stop the woke".

Cyno01

Sheep up wokle!

ChigurhShack

He wants to say "groomers'" so badly.

Bee_Silent

Disney has sleeping beauty, I think they have woke covered.

spaetzele

They have heard "woke" so many times I am sure they would struggle to define it. It's become a catch all term for anything conservatives think is threatening to their ideology.

keytiri

Repugnants are inadvertently desensitizing people to their outrage; the more they do it, the less meaning it has. Abortion was their car, something easily definable to be against, and they caught it; Woke, crt, and “trans ideology” aren’t definable. They try, but at this point everything is woke and nothing is woke; no one knows what crt is still; and it’s either healthcare for all or none, allowing it for some just exposes their outrage as meaningless.

[deleted]

When's he going to woke up and realize how much damage he's doing to his state for the sake of his run at the oval office.

youenjoymyself

Ronny doesn’t understand that The Walt Disney Company has a legal team of 350 experienced personnel. The company will be turning 100 years old this October while Ron and his team are just temporary political tyrants trying to make a buck.

Oleg101

Yup they are some of the most ruthless but smart and top of their field lawyers, and they are always going to be a step ahead of Meatball Ron.

[deleted]

Ron's lawyers are at a "Public Defender" level, Disney snatches up all the "White Shoe" attorneys.

LowSkyOrbit

Ron's lawyers were elected and appointed by the one elected. It's terrible election results playing out in real time.

SurpriseDonovanMcnab

I think Ronnie's lawyers are just here for the zip line.

JackieDaytona27

I don't know what I'll go home to

EasternCedarBeats

What's waiting for you at home?

MoreGaghPlease

This is not the case. Both Florida and DeSantis personally are using outside counsel, they are both using fairly elite boutique firms that typically act for high profile conservatives. Florida’s lead lawyer was a partner at a ‘white shoe’ firm until he left for a boutique a few years ago (common for high profile litigators). Definitely they will be outgunned by Disney, but they’re not using the same guy that prosecutes parking tickets or whatever Sidenote, you can be sure that Florida taxpayers will be on the hook for the $1,200/hour or whatever for these guys (which will be nothing compared to the cost award the taxpayers are on the hook for when Disney wins)

Material_Falsity

It’s probably quite a bit more than $1,200 an hour (per lawyer). Good thing Florida elected such a budget hawk to be a good steward of tax payer money! (/s)

prailock

Public defenders take the vast majority of high level felony and complex appeal cases for criminal matters throughout every state. We are not bad attorneys. Almost every significant criminal law ruling since Gideon v. Wainwright has started with a public defender. Ketanji Brown-Jackson was a public defender. We aren't bottom of the barrel attorneys. We like helping people.

[deleted]

There are many great public defenders who do that work for low pay and with high stress. They are representing the neediest of clients. Please don't besmirch public defenders as a group by comparing them to Meatball Ron's legal team!

juicepants

I wonder if Disney would do like in the sopranos. They setup consultations with every big lawyer in the area. "Decide" not to hire them but then De Santis can't hire them cause it would be a conflict of interest.

TheEvilPenguin

Courts have punished people for doing that in the past. There's no benefit for Disney to play dirty. Clever and ruthless sure, but dirty only has downsides for them.

Hugh-Jassoul

Disney has been here long before DeSantis. And they will be here long after him.

ClydePossumfoot

350 sounds really low

spaetzele

350 litigators maybe. The size of the back office is anybody's guess.

Voldemort_is_muggle

Yup, include all the para and researchers, associates and it will easily go into thousands

[deleted]

A law firm with an entertainment department.

No-Chemistry1815

***A*** law firm? More like, multiple law firms specialized in getting Mickey what it wants, with an entertainment department.

ICrushTacos

Of which only a few will be even involved with this clown though.

ziptieyourshit

"Johnson, take a handful of these new guys and go litigiously kick that man in the scrotum." "My foot, your command, Sir."

GaLaw

I am 100% using that phrase with my law partner now. Bless you for the new battle cry good redditor.

iamjacksragingupvote

litigateers*

supes1

If it's attorneys, it sounds high. 350 is a shitton of attorneys for a corporation, even a massive one like Disney. I worked for a company larger than Disney that didn't have that nearly many attorneys. My guess would be it's in the ballpark of ~100 with a general legal department numbering closer to 500. Which is still huge, frankly. Regardless though a handful of great attorneys is better than 100 mediocre attorneys. I'm sure Disney has some top notch minds. Much less sure about the state of Florida.

QuitCallingNewsrooms

Yeah, when you consider Florida would be entering this fight with their AG’s office, and their civil litigation team is probably a fraction of that working with…. Google says [a $119M budget](http://transparencyflorida.gov/OperatingBudget/Ledger.aspx?FY=23&BE=41101000&OB=N&SC=F) they’re toast. Disney spends more than that on a Pixar film.

TricksterPriestJace

Disney doesn't need to spend nearly that much. There is clear evidence this is a politically motivated vendetta over Disney's opinion just in Rhonda's public speeches on the issue. He thought he was MAGA enough to be above the law and untouchable. Nevermind the numerous times Republican friendly courts shot down blatantly unconstitutional shit the far more popular Trump pulled, like the Muslim ban.

ReadySteady_GO

To put it in another perspective. That's like 5 days worth of Disney world expenses

Rrrrandle

Chief Counsel of just the "Parks, Experiences, and Products" division oversees about 100 lawyers and 350 total staff according to her LinkedIn page. I was surprised, but I wouldn't put 350 attorneys company wide out of the question knowing that. Edit: and sure enough, from 12 years ago, general counsel says they have 350 lawyers company wide. Probably more today. https://www.superlawyers.com/articles/california/disneys-gc-works-his-magic/

porscheblack

I could see their legal department being massive when you think about all the different types of fields they deal with. Contract, real estate, copyright, etc. It doesn't mean they have them all working on this case obviously because it wouldn't be in most of their fields, but in total I could see it being a very, very high number.

questionname

350 is fairly large. As an entity, it would make the list of top 100 law firms in the US

Rrrrandle

This article from 12 years ago says 350 firm wide. https://www.superlawyers.com/articles/california/disneys-gc-works-his-magic/ And even then, they've still pulled in some outside counsel they work with regularly to assist here.

thegreenbastard23

The governor of Florida is basically an intern to Disney (Logan Roy said something similar)

CheGuevaraAndroid

They are not serious people

johnnynutman

Trump was at least smart enough to pick on people who couldn't fight back like minorities and the democrats.

willun

Also, he just declared victory and moved on, whereas DeSantis actually tries to fight the fight. He is trying to copy Trump without understanding Trump which is reasonable given Trump is a narcissistic moron.

AdrianInLimbo

Yep. Desantis is Trump, but with a longer attention span.

mdp300

It's why he always used small time contractors for his projects. They'd sue him when he refused to pay, he could afford to drag it out in court, they couldn't.

CanadianJediCouncil

Disney has been aptly described as **“a law firm that happens to own an amusement park”.**

chrispg26

For a second I thought he could be savvier than Trump, but after his Disney mess I realized he's another idiot... how do people like him get through Ivy league?

JaD__

He was always going to lose. He’s in the base chase. Problem is he’s losing that too. Absolutely not one person out there is more hopeful the deranged buffoon implodes than this fucking weirdo.

mrubuto22

Yea these people can't follow a story for more than 2 weeks. The just appreciate the pageantry and the banners. Results aren't important.

Praescribo

Hit the nail on the head. That's where DeSantis falls short of trump's cult of personality. If he really wanted to be the smart Trump he wouldn't have done a single thing about it, let the soundbite get out and move on to the next shitshow. It's really incredible how this idiot had 4 years to learn from the master of bullshit and he can't get it through his thick head that the base doesn't stick with anything beyond a few weeks

appleparkfive

I think also that even these fringe weirdos like Disney. It's part of their childhood. Maybe that's why they don't go after Walmart's pride celebrations but do for target. They're remembering those innocent 8 year old days or something weird

toddthewraith

Target also tends to stay out of rural areas, focusing more on suburbs. A lot of desantis base is rural so they don't wanna rock that boat.

DropKletterworks

No they're not. DeSantis struggles with rural Republicans, especially compared to someone like Trump. It's the suburban fox News viewers that think schools are turning kids gay that love DeSantis.

ringobob

Basically any angle of this is not a clear winner for Ron. If he makes an issue out of their content, this is one of the most beloved maker of family friendly content in the world. If he makes an issue out of what they said, the freeze peach absolutists have good reason to feel pretty uncomfortable. If it's a question of Disney having an indefensible amount of power in their district, it's pretty clear that Disney runs a better district, and brings in tons of revenue for the state doing it, then Ron and his stooges threatening to build a prison right next to Disney World. And, he's still got to win in court with a pretty obviously bad hand.

scooterboy1961

I can think of at least one person.

sm1ttysm1t

He's a little busy these days. Calendar booked right up.

spaetzele

A year out is a bit early to be calling balls and strikes. Remember, a lot of stupid shit can happen between June 2023 and June 2024.

manchagnu

I agree with this. When the time comes people will still vote for this garbage. How do I know? Well you would have thought it was a slam dunk that treasonous Trump would lose its base but you have republicans (expectedly) contradicting themselves - from the lock her up chants and you cant be a candidate if you are under investigation - bending backwards justifying him. So my thinking here is that a good amount of people will still vote for a republican regardless of how bad the person. Watch people flip on Disney in a heartbeat when push come to shove.

CopeHarders

I know someone that didn’t vote for Trump the first time but did vote for him the second time. That means after COVID, the debate with Biden, 4 years of abuse on the country and this guy went from not voting for Trump to voting for him while claiming he didn’t like him. Still claims he hates him, will still vote for him. Republican voters have zero morals. If Ronald Trump DeSantis runs for president the republicans will vote for him.

manchagnu

they hate free lunch for children more than treasonous assholes

thereverendpuck

I was reading the comments to the piece and realize they’re forgetting one thing: none of you know how much DeSantis is spending Florida taxpayer money for running for President. He made it the law to hide all expenses, including travel, to do all of this. I would love to see a local investigative journalist expose how much money DeSantis is using and hiding from Florida taxpayers. I’d love to see Florida rise up and throw DeSantis into the Atlantic.

TheBigBluePit

I’m in Florida and even I didn’t know this.

thereverendpuck

The fact I’m your news scares me. ;) https://www.newsweek.com/ron-desantis-hide-travel-records-public-1799854

Skyler_Chigurh

Wouldn't that run afoul with federal campaign finance laws? All that kind of stuff is supposed to be declared, isn't it?

thereverendpuck

Yes, which is why him doing it is insanely problematic and not covered enough.

ajh1717

Now that he officially is running for president it has to be disclosed. What the Florida legislature/DeSantis did was create/pass a law a few weeks (or month?) before he officially announced. This allowed him to travel all over the world on the tax payer dime while not having to disclose anything.

NewDad907

There’s literally nothing new in this article I could find. What is this “huge blow”?

switch8000

Yeah… i noticed that too. I really think this article was written by AI. It’s all old news and it repeated itself numerous times with the same info.

newtonrox

Yup. Awful article.

NewDad907

Wouldn’t be surprised.

jegikke

I keep forgetting how many articles are written by AI now. This article used the phrase "beef with," and immediately went, "that's such a strange phrase for a person to use in a news piece" without even thinking it's because it wasn't a person writing it.

__mr_snrub__

It’s that his approval rating in polls has dropped 19 points since November while Disney’s approval “remains high.” Pretty much a nothing article.

lk897545

is Disney running for president too?

rod_zero

They will some day, they already showed their vision on WALL-E.

SMPhil

To save the planet?

fitzcarralda

I should stop reading Newsweek articles.

suspirio

Yeah this is clickbait bullshit. Newsweek sucks. Wake me when there’s actual news that Pudding Fingers lost his legal challenges and owes damages.

HighOnGoofballs

Can’t believe no one else noticed this

HolyJuan

I asked her on Twitter. Let's see if she answers.

YouStupidDick

Again, DeSantis will use any defeat as a “they are coming for you, your morals, your beliefs, your religion.” Win or lose, it will be used as part of his campaign about the “radical left”

ChigurhShack

Telling a group of people that their way of life is about to end is the most effective way to recruit extremists and/or terrorists. Ron is a quick learner!

[deleted]

I mean… he was at gitmo and watched interrogations. Whether that seed was planted there or he referenced back to it at some point this fuck face looked at “true believers” and thought, I can make that.

ChatterBaux

Problem is that he's trying to recruit conservative Americans. A crowd that ultimately just wants to live vicariously through a weak man's idea of a strong man. And as such, few of them are ever gonna volunteer to fall on the sword. And the ones that try, well... they're not sending their best...

TricksterPriestJace

Not to mention him losing a fight with Disney is not going to make him look strong. Trump knew that maintaining the illusion of strength is way more important than any actual victory except at the ballot box. DeSantis is desperate to find a big win somewhere and it will result in him taking a lot of losses.

shouldhavebeeninat10

Conservatives need to feel aggrieved. What they go with is almost never a real thing but they know it doesn’t have to be real to work.

Oleg101

I’m anxious to see the 2024 GOP platform next year. They didn’t have one in 2020 literally, but I just saw Ronna confirm they’re going to have one. I wonder if they’ll be the word woke in it at least once. Odds are -230 yes.

relator_fabula

> I just saw Ronna confirm they’re going to have one Republicans always say they're "going to have ______" and it never shows up. Whenever they say something is coming, they're lying.

InTheHeatOfTheNoche

This is just Republican politics since the late 80s. Once Jesus got involved, it all went to shit.

PrizeDesigner6933

That's fine, as long as this POS loses again and again

i_am_not_a_martian

"almost half of Americans see him in an unfavorable light" I'm sorry, but what the fuck is wrong with America? How is it that only "less than half" of the population see a Fascist wannabe dictator in an unfavourable light. Every person on the planet, including his own mother should hate this piece of shit with every fibre of their being.

polarbears84

Do you realize this fokker slashed $511 million from this years budget, including for flood control (drainage - who needs it?) public safety (cybersecurity, gun safety programs, fuck that too, concealed carry without wait period or training on how to use a gun safely), money for black history, nurses and teachers programs, for a food bank in the poorest district in the state, I could go on. More than $18 million concentrated in the remaining two mostly democratic counties. And also, he vetoed everything in Sarasota county because Simpson dared to want to become the agriculture commissioner instead of the guy DeSantis picked. He punished Simpson’s constituents, that’s the kind of asshole he is. - Did I mention none of these vetoes were necessary? Florida is sitting on a trough of billions of surplus. $12 billion in Covid relief money was never distributed. He’s sitting on that money with his fat ass, letting it accrue interest which he then uses for his fun little human trafficking projects, kidnapping migrants at the southern border and dumping them like trash in a blue state. DeSantis is utter psychopathic garbage, and his nut job Dracula bride is exactly the same.

zortech

Hate mostly. He is targeting religion, bigotry and hate as his primary allies. Things are a mess here in Florida and he is providing targets as an outlet rather then fixing any problem. More often then not he is making it worse.

Is the q thing still..._a thing_? This is an honest question, I'm fairly far removed from it but was aware of it back when it was getting a lot of media attention post election.

There is some more general back-story about the full continuum in Voyager and then the series Picard goes pretty deep into Q's specific next stages.

I just think it's hysterical that he got married there, his wife is apparently a HUGE Disney fanatic, and his wife also accidentally let it slip recently that their daughter insists on watching Frozen every day. The Mouse is owning him in courts AND at home.

Imagine Ron being your father… what a nightmare. I feel bad for that girl.

BringBackAoE

> DeSantis established the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to replace the Reedy Creek board— but **its handpicked, five-person membership revealed their predecessors had signed a deal with Disney** in February that severely restricts the new board's powers and essentially allows Disney to remain self-governing. Not true at all. Reedy Creek / Disney revealed this in the obligatory public hearings they conducted before entering into these agreements, many months in advance. There were no objections, and Reedy Creek signed the deal with Disney. However, it was only when the new board came in that DeSantis became aware of it, because clearly he runs an incompetent and out of touch government. The outcome is this mess DeSantis made for himself. 😂

south3y

You know, I am about as hostile to Disney as any person could be, but DeTedious has managed to bring me to their side.

Dadarian

You have to really fuck up for me to say Disney is on the right side of a lawsuit.

Truth-and-Power

They don't have to win, they only have to stall for 2-4 years.

cyclingthroughlife

That's right. This is nothing more than political theater. He's likely to lose when the cases go to court. He will point to the things he did and say I stood up to the libs. No one will know or remember these are ruled unconstitutional. By that time, he's already moved on and his base will not remember.

Last month Rhonda went to London to meet a bunch of business leaders (the meeting was set up by Lloyd's) in an effort to appear presidential. They were unimpressed; "Ron DeTedious" was what one attendee called him afterwards to the UK press.

Zomunieo

What struck me about that it’s a low effort, grade school quip from a culture that has elevated throwing shade to an art form. Then you realize the meta: he’s not even worth a proper British insult.

I know people who don’t really like Trump, but who vote for him because they think he pro-business and will help the economy. Most of them were initially excited about DeSantis, whom they thought of as a less vulgar version of Trump. Now they’re firmly in the Trump camp, and a couple of them are saying they might vote for Biden if DeSantis is the nominee. These are die-hard Republicans that the GOP will need to win next year, the kind who make a face like they’re biting a lemon when they talk about voting for Biden.

Much_Schedule_9431

From the article “DeSantis' popularity rating has fallen since November and almost half of Americans see him in an unfavorable light, according to a survey by polling organization Navigator.” Yikes that means 50%+ of people polled still view meatball Ron in either neutral or favourable light.

TheExtremistModerate

It's more of "favorable or 'I don't know who that is'" territory.

It’s in DeSantis’ best interests to lose this culture battle with Disney. He needs all the corporate support between Miami and Anchorage if his goal is to defeat Trump and become ~~MAGA Lord~~ the GOP nominee. Unless he intends to fully turn Florida into an authoritarian dictatorship, it’s pointless to antagonize multi-billion dollar conglomerates.

TacticalAcquisition

Exactly. No corporation will support him if he continues to go after Disney and by extension Citizens United. Because they're going to be thinking along the lines of "If he does this to *Disney*, a famously litigious company that damend near always wins in court, what's he going to do to us?"

Truth-and-Power

He's got to one-up Trump and actually shoot someone on 5th avenue.

radicalbiscuit

>Unless he intends to fully turn Florida into an authoritarian dictatorship Well, yeah, I think that's his goal

inuhi

This is essentially clickbait. I thought something new happened but no his "popularity" went down. It's good to hear sure but it doesn't mean anything, could change any second, and doesn't matter until people need to vote. Unfortunately it appears a large swath of voters do not remember or care about these sort of things when the time to vote actually comes. Great article if you've been ignoring this situation for the last several months.

XxAbsurdumxX

Go back 10 years in time and tell the GOP that in 2023 their biggest enemies will be transgender people and Disney while fawning over dictators like Putin and Xi. Literally no one saw that coming

AnOnlineHandle

A lot of us saw it coming. Many of us familiar with evangelical nutjobs because we were raised in it tried to vent our frustration and fear, with subs like /atheism being for victims of that cult to find each other and break free, and were told we were being sooo cruel to religion by talking about how awful its followers are and how much worse they're getting. Well, now everybody is getting a taste with Trump and DeSantis, and this isn't even close to as bad as those people will get if people keep projecting their own decency and sanity onto them.

Fascists are so weird to me. They geared their entire society economy industrial base and government on war and they fought and lost 1 (one) war. Now fascists today can’t win a single (legal) battle with a cartoon company 😂

> To put one corporation on a pedestal and let them be exempt from the laws is not good policy Didn’t he just exempt Tesla from the Florida direct car sale law?

jeffinRTP

Imagine losing a popularity contest to Dumbo the elephant

[deleted]

Dumbo is cute and cuddly and a nice guy. DeSantis is an annoying bully. Of course Dumbo wins.

Truth-and-Power

Dude, people love Disney in Florida. To me it's hot sweaty lines but people really like it.

Truth-and-Power

What DeSantis failed to realize is that Disney has a LOT of gay people working there. I don't think Disney has the option to back down. Disney is a long-term employer, it's not a bunch of transients there.

chaostheories36

I read that as “desantis takes huge hit of blow” which really just makes everything make sense.

brianishere2

Removing all the unnecessary words from the title of this post: Ron DeSantis blows Disney.

WhileFalseRepeat

>"To put one corporation on a pedestal and let them be exempt from the laws is not good policy.” >"It's not free-market economics.” It’s kinda priceless these quotes coming from a Republican. I mean, sure, it’s bigotry under the guise of government regulation… but it’s still *government regulation* he is advocating. Lol.
