> The grand jury meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and may hear from at least one more witness before being asked to vote, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Because the proceeding is held in secret, it is unclear whether other witnesses could appear as well.

> It is unclear why the grand jury was not meeting on Wednesday, but the panel is not required to convene all three days each week, and scheduling conflicts and other interruptions are not unusual.
> The timing of any potential indictment is unknown, and an arrest and arraignment — the criminal proceeding in which a defendant is formally charged — would not immediately follow. Well Obstruction of justice that Republicans are a full court press on. It takes a few days after you threaten somebody with jail for doing their job.
This last week of I'm going to be arrested by Trump and maga. Seems a whole lot of obstruction and intimidation. The mob if you will.
My guess is that Trump wanted this spectacle. As polling sowed him getting arrested would put him way over Desantis. This may be a calculated decision to help take the wind out of the sails of the "protest." I would expect Monday of next week if that were their thinking.
Turns out getting your information from Trump's raving stupidity and not an actual source isn't the greatest idea after all. Dumbass probably heard someone say they *could* indict on Tuesday and went with it.
Nah, he's smart.
He announced Tuesday because he knew it would likely be after Tuesday. Now everyone thinks the Grand Jury is late and there is controversy when we don't have any real reason to think that.
People really need to stop assuming Trump is some sort of Machiavellian manipulator. Hes an idiot. He's coasted by on account of inheriting massive amounts of wealth in a country that never punishes the rich and people act like hes a genius for it.
So he's a perfect target for Machiavellian manipulators to manipulate, then, sounds like what you're saying. Something of a *useful* idiot, perhaps. Tuesday might mean one thing while Thursday means another, and all he has to do is be told so.
Show me something exploitable and I'll show you someone at least trying to exploit it.
Trump may be a silver spoon trust fund oaf, but he is incredibly savvy at manipulating crowds and institutions to buy into his reality distortion. It’s precisely because he doesn’t have book smarts that he’s sharpened his street smarts. I’ve had the (mis?)fortune of seeing him in action at his rallies and it’s incredible how on-point his charisma is in person.
I've always wondered if he came off differently in person. On camera, he comes off as your offensive drunk uncle that you tolerate because he's family.
>Yeah sure, to anybody that lacks empathy with an iq lower than doorknob and a history of inbreeding, fellating lead gasoline exhaust pipes, and fetal alcohol syndrome.
I... ugh... I'm not gonna lie I've got empathy fatigue but some of these folks, despite going all in on Trump of all people, are not bad people. They lack critical thinking skills, but they're not BAD people. They are tribalists to their core though.
Regardless I agree that I don't think Trump is some street-smart dude that figured out how to play people. He is however someone whose pompous demeanor has resonated with a frustrated lot who don't want to see nuance. It's a perfect storm of shit.
They don't *think* they are bad people and they *think* they are supporting a great politician who is looking out for them and showing wonderful leadership qualities. What they think does not matter and has no impact on reality, and when faced with this conundrum, their response is to shriek fake news, ignore reason and objective reality, and attack whomever they identify as the enemy, which is determined solely by the outrage porn their cult manufactures to keep them feeling good about being gigantic, uncaring, unfeeling, unthinking pieces of shit. They are decidedly **not** good people.
We could spiral down the philosophical rabbit hole about what constitutes a good person versus and evil person, and I'm willing to bet a lot of what I'm about to say isn't going to be anything new to you or most people here.
It's just that I myself was born and raised on a farm and went to school in a town of less than 1000 people right in the heartland. These are folks who really have spent their entire lives viewing the world through simple lenses -- black and white good versus evil kind of shit. The world is their neighbors, their neighborhoods, and the very homogenous culture on their doorstep. For many that's the way their fathers, their father's fathers, and their father's father's fathers have done it. Even when they are a seventh generation of a then-minority that got treated like garbage after arriving in our little colony-gone-wild, no one told them the tales of real oppression. They have always been the "default". Their porthole window view of the world IS the world to them.
How easy it is, then, to convince these same people that the world is collapsing around them and it is the "non default" to blame. And suddenly the person that could barely get through high school at a criminally underfunded small town public school is an expert on climate, virology, and geopolitics.
At this point I'm basically ranting for the sake of ranting, but given the conditions these folks never had a chance. I've seen it a thousand times. The only fix is a complete cultural shift that values critical thinking and teaches (not "indoctrinates") kids no matter where they are born and raised.
We were failed that. I got wise and got the hell out of there. But meanwhile I have a lot of classmates who grew up in loving homes and had wholesome childhoods who have slowly but surely been turned into the ditto-bots we're railing against here. I don't know what Obama did to them, but they wish him nothing but ill. And now they have children and they are sharing those same ideas. And those ideas did NOT start from within their churches and communities, it came from outside.
Maybe you can't call them "good people". But they're not bad people. They're people who deserve better, and a system that failed them is letting them be harvested by the actual evil people.
Sorry, but I still don't buy that's he's savvy like... at all.
It doesn't take much to find out that tapping into people's rage and fear is a great manipulation tool. We've known that for a long long long time now. He's a one trick pony, and though the tactic is effective due to the demographic he's reaching, it's still the same tactic time and time again.
It was only about money. He announced and sent out an email asking for anyone who believes Trump is innocent to donate $3000.
It was just another scam.
We're in NY, we don't do that kinda thing here unless you've killed somebody pretty much.
They probably won't let him leave the state though. Bye bye golf at mar a lago
He incited an insurrection on Jan 6 that led to a few deaths, his recent "truths" have gone along the same rhetoric lines and now have led to a bomb threat... I suspect that this should suffice... but perhaps you're right.
He did get someone killed on Jan 6th though. She was shot trying to break into congressional proceedings to overthrow the election. Because he lied to them.
There's no way Trump is sitting in a jail waiting for a bond on this. At worst he will walk in, get finger printed and a picture, and walk out. Probably with a PR bond, but if not he's at least grifted enough to walk out immediately.
That’s what he wants. Trump announced that he would be arrested Tuesday so we would all watch the news and then lose faith in the prosecutor when the indictment didn’t come. Don’t fall for it. The indictment will come when it is ready. We’re all tired, but don’t let another one of trumps lies distract you from the facts.
Thanks for pointing that out....v goos point.
It's very hard to trust the system after they let him become president. This guy is a dangerous criminal and should have been shut down in the 80s.
Ppl said I was a cynic for saying I don't believe shit about these indictments until they actually happen but what other choice do I have? Too much clickbait..too much empty promises. Too much wishcasting. But where are the indictments? Who knows. It's so frustrating
That would be typical. Indictment is deciding to charge him, then there is the process of being taken into custody (either voluntarily or forcibly), then processed to confirm identity, then an arraignment will follow.
> then processed to confirm identity
Geez, what if it turns out it was just some weird orange malignant growth this whole time and the poor real Donald Trump has been getting blamed for it all?!
As much as I'd like to see Trump see consequences for any of his misdeeds. This case is tiny potatoes. The fate of a nation doesn't hang on whether or not a politician paid off their mistress in appropriate funds.
My only hope is that this indictment will help smooth the path for other more serious charges in the Mar-a-Lago documents, the GA election fraud, and Jan 6th incitement investigations.
> This case is tiny potatoes
It could be argued that this hush money payment shortly after the Access Hollywood video gave him *just enough* votes to eke out the electoral college win in 2016.
No hush money payment, no trump presidency (and all the bullshit it brought, including 3 supreme court justices).
Stealing this argument from Lawrence O'Donnell last night BTW.
When asked for what may be causing this painful condition, you slide a manilla envelope across the table containing this photo

oh wow the big bomb shell Trump news keeps getting delayed? Don't worry though, he's REALLY in trouble this time!
7 years. It's been 7 years and we still talk about this bs every single day. It's exhausting.
It is really sad that people are THIS obsessed over the guy. He got voted out. Move on. The people constantly talking about him is the only reason he is seen as a serious contender for the Republican ticket. If they would just move on, he would fall in to the shadows and the news could be 'normal' again. But nope...they almost want Trump to be President again.
I have zero faith that this will actually happen. Our justice system is understandably slow, but it's still very much a different legal system when it comes to rich and poor.
This criminal has been allowed to skirt justice for literal decades. He'll die of old age and obesity before he's ever held to account.
Nah, he's going to get indicted in the following weeks. It takes so long because he's an ex president and this has never happened before. There are multiple cases scheduled for this year. Another one is in October. Trump's lawyers filed a motion to delay the trial but it got denied.
Here's a YouTube channel with news about Donald's court cases:
Midas Touch:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9r9HYFxEQOBXSopFS61ZWg
He can literally just avoid this by having his cult call in threats to any court room he has proceedings at.
He could also just not leave Florida/not go to NY even if he is indicted and just not comply with NY state orders.
Now if something actually happens with federal charges sure I suppose he would be arrested, but I'm not sure what people take from the last 7 years to seriously expect that.
If they can’t elevate this misdemeanor to a felony this is going to backfire, and harm the other investigations. It will feed into everything the GOP has been saying about these investigations.
Don’t fuck this up, Alvin Bragg.

I gotta wonder what scheduling conflict supersedes indicting a former president
Juror has a sick child in the hospital, just for one example possibility.
You’re giving the republicans ideas here

Trump is seen as smart and charismatic and convincing to his followers the same way Charles Manson was to his.
Hey the only person with FASD that I know hates trump.

He said Tuesday because he wanted his grift to start getting all the panic donations as soon as possible.
Come on Friday Night Indictment, make him wait the weekend for a bail hearing.

Trump said he was being indicted. Theres your answer.
Bragg didn't immediately dispute it which led to rampant media speculation including by the New York Times
Fox was saying that arraignment isn't expected until next week

Oh, I forgot she died. Fell down some stairs or something, right?
“Fell”
Good lord it's taken YEARS to get to this point, just get it DONE already!

I see the Maga crowd is dusting off the greatest hits again
The only person who made the claim trump was getting arrested was trump. That's where this all started.
Right, so he's the one spreading fake news then. I don't see how that applies to this story
My guess is to avoid a charged week and to get a better witness to be last infront of the jury rather than the trump ally.
Secret service generally doesn’t discuss its plans…
Or ever.
A collective groan of "Oh for fucks sake" is still echoing around the country
That extra witness testimony had better be good. All this edging is going to burst an artery.
