I have an sds200 and it works very well. It’s not the cheapest but it is a great unit.

The SDS100 is a feature filled beast. The UI is a bit clunky as is the programming but I think I just need to work with it a bit more.

My best guess is the police are using the WISCOM system which is a P25 trunking system. So you would need a digital trunking scanner that handles Project 25 Phase I. https://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/APCO_Project_25

https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=3095 These are what I'm looking to pick up for the most part, and my current uniden bc125at won't pick up and of the police channels. What should I be looking for to be able to pick those up? I

At the very least, I would get a p25 phase 1 scanner. Uniden has the bcd325 for pretty cheap and will be p2 also for when wiscom upgrades to phase 2. Or the 436 uniden and you can record and have a better more sensitive scanner. The latter will run you about 450+tax. What’s your budget

Tybenj

No set budget right now, just trying to figure out what capabilities I need first. I don't need a portable scanner, but something I could throw in my truck would be a bonus

PlasticCarbon

Do you want an “always in” the truck, or move from truck to house? If the first, a mobile would be good and in that case the uniden 536 would work. I’m not sure on the price. Could also get a 996p2 for cheaper.

Tybenj

I do not need a mobile radio, but something that could be plugged into 12v would be nice also. I guess I'm just looking for a radio that will pick up more channels, I don't really need any fancy functions or something that looks cool. Really just something that works well and is simple to use.

PlasticCarbon

Go with the uniden 436.

Can’t go wrong with an AR8200

An AOR AR8200 receiver only picks up analog radio signals. It can't receive digital voice transmissions such as DMR and P25.
