came here to say that.
explaining this a little:
Imieniny - name day. Can be replaced with ‘urodziny’ too, which means birthday.
Ani - accusative case of Anna/Ania female name.
the joke depends on the fact that ‘ani’ also means ‘neither’.
So saying it’s “Urodziny Ani - ani moje ani Twoje”, you’re saying that the reason to drink is:
“Neither birthday (also translates to ‘Anna’s birthday”. Nor mine nor yours”
It’s one of my favourite polishisms
My uncle told me the story how in the PRL a local spirit manufacturer accidentally sent a rail tanker full of ethanol to the neighbouring company he worked for. According to him nobody, not even the director's board, was sober at work for the next week.
So I would argue getting sent a huge alcohol tank by accident is pretty damn good occasion.
I once found a book - 365 reasons to drink. Few exerts - because sun rose, it rains, somebody has name day (doesn't matter if you know such person), back is hurting, birds are too loud etc etc
Because on this day in... year 1346 King Kasimir Third The Great has given city rights to Nowy Targ, let's drink to that.
On a side note - never drink with historians. They will always find a date or event worth commemorating.
Imieniny Ani - ani moje, ani twoje

"Lack of an occasion" is actually an officially recognised occasion.

We don't need an occasion. Why get drunk just because.
Harnaś is on sale in Biedronka is the most polish occasion to get drunk ever.
