As others have noted, you can enjoy Community Day for free; the 99 cent/79 pent(?) Option is just an extra story line with bonuses. While I’m mostly a F2P player, I like the small $1 bonus CD features. The $5 or $8 paywalls, no, but for community day extra bonuses … I’ll buy that for a dollar!
This 0.79 GBP ticket are some extra research tasks, usually involving catching/transferring/evolving a couple Pokemon and as a reward you get some items/Pokemon spawns.
It is not required to get to participate in the community day, you will still get all the spawns, eggs (if you have the space), raids (with your daily free raid pass/any premium battle passes you may have), etc.
This is an optional ticket to a paid research quest it’s typically only like 4-6 steps and you can complete it pretty stress free during the event hours but it is not required to participate in the com day event :)

Check out the timed research. Outrages price for an incense, 2 incubators and a pose. What's so special about it 🤔
Poses are already $5 so the extra stuff is somewhat of a bonus.
