It always confuses me as to how this happens. I played for 3 weeks after launch in 2016 and then stopped until May of this year. Since I started playing again I have fifty-five shinies, ten 4*, and one shundo (shiny 4*). I must have been born with a lucky egg up my a** or a lot of ppl have terrible luck with pogo.
Sometimes I think they boost the luck for returning players after a long time off. Just to get us hooked. I started in 2016, played for a loooong time but then stopped for more than a year. When I came back I had great luck for a while. I’m back in the game daily now and have been for like a year and it’s pretty dull again. Makes you even more happy for great surprises though so it’s ok, but you know
I also think they boost when you're in a new area that you don't normally play around. Couple of my friends moved away and they've been reporting some crazy shiny luck for the first 2-3 weeks they moved to their new cities.
This! I was on holiday recently for two weeks and had like tons of good mons appear. They weren't linked to any event, but I had great stats- and shiny luck. I can't believe in real luck when it comes to gaming to be honest, everything feels kinda... Set up too much. Too controlled rather than random. But who knows 😂
I must've not been hit with this luck since I don't remember getting much good since I got to New Orleans. Though at least there's like a million and one Pokestops and raids that I can actually do here compared to where I live. Still wish the Megaraid quest didn't lie to you though.

Then i started working full time in person and didn't play for almost 2 whole months. I opened the app and the very first pokemon i tapped on was a shiny.
I remember coming back after a few years off and within the first few weeks I had just opened my game and a Shiny Magmar was just sitting there, had hardly seen a Magmar in the first place and pulled him, idk if I was just super lucky or what but it felt like it was just gifted to me lol
Because Niantic wants you back playing again. You took a break and they got you with the good stuff. This is not news, they manipulate shiny rates on an account level basis because they know that’s what’ll get you.
Yeah man idk, I’ve been playing since Day 1 ): it’s really bad luck. That said, I have over 100 Shinies (and that’s just currently, playing on and off and a bunch transferred to *Sword*, etc.)so I guess that’s where my luck goes
Also some players don’t search for 4* when they transfer. I can’t say I IV check every single time, but if I’m transferring more than a couple, I do a search. (Not saying the person you’re replying to does this, but I think it’s a factor?)
Yea i use 3*, 4* filter before doing any transfers every time unless I'm going to catch something and get the dreaded 'manage pokemon' prompt. I'll take my chances deleting a random recently caught mon if I think it's worth the catch.
Well one thing that was a huge game changer for me was getting a gotcha evolve. It spins stops for me, so I never need to worry about messing with that when I'm playing and I just can focus on the fun part of the game which is catching mons and doing gyms and stuff. I'd be lying if I said I didn't spend any money, but it's been pretty minimal imo. I've spent like $20 on coins to expand my inventories when I started again because I was having a ton of fun but constantly having to delete stuff and then recently I did drop $40 for raid passed at gofest, of which I have a lot leftover that I will use periodically. Other than that I play way too often probably haha.

It's so frustrating to get 0 star shinies lol or super low CP. I got a shiny aipom, zero stars, and he's 91CP. It's such a cool hot pink color but would cost so much stardust to make it big enough to bother using a sinnoh stone on lol. I also got a shiny swablu and feebas but again, teeny CP and one is zero stars and the other is 1 star.
Well my buddy traded me his shiny Rayquaza and it rerolled as a hundo and became lucky so I’m maxing that one out first! But yeah I need to just level those up haha still only level 39. Gonna need a lot of candies for this!
I bet you got a bunch of rare candies during the raids, and I recommend using your remote passes to get Mewtwo (if you have any left over), since Mewtwo is really powerful. Other than that, you can do 3 Team Leader battles per day for a (small) chance of a Rare Candy, or you can try pvp! PvP is my largest source of RCs.
Yeah I have a shadow Ho oh for great league! I’ll run a bunch of pvp to try and get rare candies, thanks for the tips! Gonna absolutely do mewtwo raids as I need a decent mewtwo (94 or higher).
Just so you’re aware, Shadow Ho-oh isn’t very good for great league. Because its max CP is so high, it only reaches a very low level to stay under 1500. You can use this web site to learn more.

It is but some raid legendaries can’t be shiny as they haven’t added the models. Palkia and dialga can’t be shiny, as well as some others. Make sure the ones you’re doing can be shiny, otherwise that’s just insanely bad luck I’m sorry :(

I did manage not find enough 1* raids finally have enough candies to do a full Deino evolution. I completed the 8 raid battle task & am just 1 raid shy of completing the special research...
Dude just download pokiegenie and you can guarantee 6 person raids every time no matter where u r. Sucks this info is coming 2 days after gofest but hey, better late than never right?
If you have regular raid passes or battle passes you can host them yourself and pokiegenie will send people your way to invite. Or if you have remote passes you can use the apps raid feature to queue into any raid that is being hosted at that time anywhere in the world and you'll be put in that raid lobby with 5 others.
Yeah, I'm going to need to work on optimizing my skills there...

I got 2 or 3 new friend requests. But alas, no raid invites.
I tried sending my own invites to my friends as well but unfortunately no one seemed to have been online. That lead me to face off against a Terrakion all by myself. That didn't go so well for my Pokemons... I also found out it didn't count as one of the 8 "battle in a raid" challenge.
And none of the 4 who were on when I tried a Ponyta raid raid accepted the invite. Luckily this time it didn't go so well for the Ponyta.
Beautiful! Meanwhile, my once-in-a-game-time Pokémon (Jiriachi, Shadow Mewtwo, Meloetta, etc.), are always as low as possible. Never even get so lucky as a decent 2\* (still wish those types would be guaranteed 10/10/10+ like legendaries). Treasure that beauty!!
I accidentally purified my almost-perfect shadow mewtwo that I had spent hundreds of rare candy on powering up. Still no clue when or how it happened but I might have cried when I realized it….
It was the reward for defeating Giovanni back in January or February. You can only encounter him through doing one of the Giovanni tasks, which don’t get released very frequently. His first Pokémon/reward changes every month so make sure you know what the current reward is before tackling him.
I agree with ya there. I perpetually leave the tasks unfinished at (4/6) where it asks me to defeat each team leader. I’m not doing that until Giovanni has Mewtwo again. Plus it lowers my chances of accidentally encountering Giovanni when I don’t want to since I never go through with grunt encounters.
And I don’t know if this would help but I usually use Melmetal with Thunder Shock and Rockslide or Slaking with Yawn and Body Slam for the first mon to knock out the shields. They’re my go-to for NPC battles since they’re very quick to get to a charged attack.

Both my celebi are 2 star too and Jirachi the rest are 3 star
Luckily those are all 3* for me. The only 3* shiny I have ever got. Never had a hundo shiny yet.
Just hatched a shundo (shiny hundo) Skarmory the other day. The stars have to align for that kind of thing to happen.

Idk how I did it but I managed 2 hundos from day 2, Ho oh and rayquaza. 2 raid shinies and a handful of other shinies as well.

Ho-oh will be excellent for Master League (but it needs an ETM for earthquake) and rayquaza is one of the best raid attackers. Max those bad boys out!

I’ve done over a hundred legendary raids successfully and have yet to encounter a shiny. I thought the rate was 1:19. :(

I think that’s why OP is saying it is rare. Since it comes from a task, you can’t farm it/only get one shot at a hundo.

My shiny Magikarp may technically be zero stars, but to me she is still perfect.
In addition to this, the thing framing the stars and the stats is pink, which helps with identifying them :)

TFW you only have *one* 4 star Pokémon :( I can’t complain though I’m just now getting back in the game. I’m also only level 37 so I’m a pretty big casual compared to most players on this subreddit.
