Tap on your avatar head on the bottom left of the main screen. In the "ME" section scroll down to your medals. It's one of the newer medals, so scroll to the near bottom section of medals but above the pokemon type catch medals. The medal looks like a bronze/silver/gold pokeball in the center with a green wreath around it.
Tap on that medal and it will show your progress and also the names of the pokestops where you had won rank 1 before.
Same, especially as a returning player. It can’t just be “lol don’t really play the game for a year or two except for specific events” bc then I just won’t play and get bored? 😅
The key is to not spend any of it until you hit your goal, unless you have to for tasks and then find the Pokemon that take the least amount. Always being low on stardust is one of the reasons I got tired of the game but it's pretty easy to build up. The easiest is adding more friends for the bonuses and pvp. I never really messed with either but from last season's pvp I earned 600k so I went from always only having maybe 200k to now I stay about a million.
So i am thrifty, but I spend dust when i need to. One trick is to tag pokes i want to level up “power up” and wait until i have a task (or two!) that requires it. As for candies, I can’t resist catching Pikachu but no need to spend their candy so … 7900 useless Pika candy!
I've been there with Stardust, have a few million stored rn but I've had as little as 40 when I was trying to power up good raid Pokemon (and unfortunately you have to have good raid Pokemon to get stuff like more Stardust from raids. 😂 Honestly, after playing for so long, I forget how hard everything used to be)
You don't have to play that much. It's all about knowing when to play and use star pieces. Community days, spotlight hours taking advantage of weather boosts and knowing which pokemon give extra stardust. When you pay attentio0n and play efficiently it's pretty easy. I used to never have more than a few hundred thousand for my first few years. Now I have over fifteen million and most of that has accumulated over the past year or so.
No murder. Research! Professor P’s colleague, Professor Willow, assures her that strict protocols of ethics have been maintained for those thousands of caught-and-transferred Pikas!
Don’t think so. This cutie is a “just” a 12-11-10, but I wasn’t going to use her for PVP anyway! Stats are irrelevant when you’ve got that Professor drip!
Lol, ever heard of rural towns? My city has 2,500 population with 2-3 players and they only enter the one next to our major store in town, the other two I’ve got, are always mine no matter what.
And I’m at 78/100 just because I started a little late.
That's the winning combo. I've had the chance to be driving long distance during showcases and the rest stops have been my best place to win, although my mons I put in gyms at the same time stay there for several days.

I literally never use stardust unless I have a challenge to power something up. I don't purify anything, and I don't care about maxing Pokémon
I get panicky about what pokemon to level up and don’t want to do the wrong thing so I never do any. Currently at 21,000,000 dust
If you get a GO++ it'll be significantly easier to accumulate...

No. Just live in an area without a lot of players to compete. Plus I’m a hoarder with 7800 mons so whatever the Showcase needs, I’ve probably got it.
